Orbiting a quiet, backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars - among them, The Eleventh Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas Dinner, the Time Lord and his companion must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe...
I love Tennant, he was MY Doctor as in I grew up with him as the Doctor after Eccleston introduced me to it… I’d seen random Doctor Who episode reruns in the UK as a kid… and I was so emotional when Tennant left.
But Moffat, the increased budget and Matt Smith bought absolutely remarkable stories that I fell in love with. I will always love Tennant but Matt Smiths run as the Doctor will always be my favourite.
For me, the series never recovered from him leaving. Capaldi did his best and there were thoroughly enjoyable episodes, but the series as a whole really trailed off.
I considered Doctor Who over when Moffat left and I like to think of this as the series finale with the new regeneration cycle as a cool ending. But each to their own!

For me this is where I stopped watching doctor who i don’t really know why but I could never get to grips with capaldi or anyone that has become the doctor since. David was my doctor and the one who made me love the show to the point I was reluctant to give Matt a chance but Matt fully brought me onboard because he’s such an incredible actor imo so going from them 2 to capaldi was such a change that I just grew out of it

This is a BIG change, Matt and David were both so charming, Capaldi is not that, but definitely is my favourite Doctor.

Matt Smith is my favorite doctor, but I will say I think Peter Capaldi is right up there with him. He definitely brings the intimidating vibes you were talking about but I think he’s an amazing doctor, and this is when Clara became my favorite companion as well! Can’t wait for series 8

I wasn't a fan of Clara until Capaldi, then they became my favorite Doctor and companion duo

You're absolutely right... this episode sure is a whirlwind. :) Matt's regeneration scene is so lovely. And I'm glad to have found your Doctor Who reactions in time for Capaldi (my personal favorite) and I have a lot of catching up to do.
I remember really enjoying all the Malcolm Tucker/12th Doctor memes around the time of season 8. Although my first introduction to Peter Capaldi was when he played a young romantic sort in the 1983 movie "Local Hero" with Burt Lancaster and Denis Lawson (aka Wedge Antilles).

Capaldi is going to be an interesting Doctor to see your thoughts on. I love him but Matt is still my favorite but man he's right there for me too!

Can’t watch this episode without bawling like a baby. I hate saying goodbye to my Doctor 😭😭😭😭. It took a while for me to even start watching Capaldi, I think I actually ended up waiting until the following series started up. But I will say, once I did, I enjoyed his connection with Clara and it actually made me like her.

Matt Smith is my favourite doctor but I love Peter Capaldi as well. I hope you'll like him. I agree with your thoughts on this episode, there was so much crammed into it but Matt Smiths speech saved it

And so my favorite arc of Doctor Who is concluded:) For me this episode is a testament to the genius of Moffat's writing, bringing together all of 11's story (Silence, crack, River).
I can't wait to see your take on Capaldi, especially since you both love Clara and she gets a lot of hate.

Goodbye 11, you were The Doctor and a part of you always will be. This special has a tremendous send off to the Eleventh Doctor. Choosing not to be cruel or cowardly, just helping those he could with the time he had left. I know the exit feels abrupt especially after the 50th anniversary but Smith went out on his own terms rather than risking burnout of the character.

Same here. Didn’t watch until his last few episodes then went back to watch all his episodes and fell in love with his version of the character

Man, if they are this overwhelmed by this episode (which was pretty easy to follow for me at least) then they are going to be so screwed for an episode that will be coming in a few seasons.

Hands down Peter Capaldi is one of the best Doctors. I reckon you’s will fall in love with him like with Matt and David and Chris
