Just as a sidenote from an anthropologist (because it's come up multiple times now, but) humans haven't been around for millions of years. At most, maybe 200,000 years . But even then, canonically in terms of the Spn universe, even SINCE angels have been around, they've been very hands-off to humans. Even when they DID come to Earth, it wasn't to bond, or understand humanity, it was practical (like Naomi talking about slewing the first-borns of anyone whose door wasn't splashed with blood as "just PR"). And when Cas first meets Dean, he says something like "Why do you think this is the first time angels have walked among humans in thousands of years" during the whole season 4/5 Lucifer arc. So yes, angels are VERY unaware of human things. They do heaven things. They collect souls, they count them, they keep the heavens running, but without God, they've just... kinda sat around for thousands of years waiting for orders. They ARE essentially robots. They were created by God to follow orders. It's been said time and time again, THAT'S what angels do, they FOLLOW ORDERS. That's encoded in their DNA. As much as it is "human nature" to create art and love and hate and free will, etc, it is literally what angels were MADE to do is...whatever they're told to do. That's why the whole Raphael, Bartholomew, Malachi, Castiel, Metatron thing worked out, was because all the angels know is how to follow what they're being TOLD follows heaven's orders without free will or thought of their own. So now it's heaven's mission to bring all the angels back. To serve heaven again. But there are some angels who have been "corrupted" by humanity, who have eaten the fruit of knowledge themselves, tasted free will, and they like it. But to most of angel-kind that is treason. We can recall what Anna, our very first renegade angel said in S4, that NOT having "faith" in heaven's plan is their "murder 1" (murder in the first degree, the worst crime there is). Angels are soldiers (this is also one of Cas's first lines, in S4). So an angel like Hanna (as likeable as she is) is still dealing with the fact that Heaven is calling angels back, and anyone who doesn't come back is a renegade like Bartholomew or Metatron and is in danger of corrupting the whole system because the majority of angels will follow whoever is in charge, making "free will" among angels a catastrophic thing. They have no mechanism for handling it the way humans do. ALL angels must serve at heaven's command, and if they allow a few to go do their own thing, they end up with chaos. THAT'S what Hanna and the others are trying to avoid. That's why even Cas at this stage, knowing all he knows about angels AND free will is saying, "Yes, we need to TRY and talk these angels into doing WHAT IS RIGHT, and return to Heaven" even though he understands the temptation for them to stay on Earth. Cas knows better than anyone that Earth was not meant for the angels. As far as Hanna maybe having feelings for Cas, again. Angels haven't even STUDIED human emotions, there's no reason for them to understand these things. They might know, academically, that love, art, music, feelings, emotions, lust are all things that humans feel and do. But as angels, they don't EXPERIENCE those things. So now Castiel is telling Hanna, "Hey, don't be feeling any lust for me" and she's like.. "well, duh. I'm an angel, I don't feel those things." Except, as we see in the next few episodes, her time on Earth (and her connection to a human body with a soul still attached) DOES allow her to feel these things that she didn't realize she was feeling, or have any words for. Because, as she says "these feelings, they aren't for me. They belong to her (the human)."

Love it! The subtle ways Jensen shifts just his eyes convey so much. Jared is excellent so I was glad to see this flip between the two. You know I hate shots. I hate demons.

I really like this episode, Jensen does a really great job at directing, I love the cat and mouse sort of feel. One thing I wish the writers would have though of is having Demon Dean feed Sam his demon blood, and then both of them be bad for a while, I think that would have been really entertaining! BoyKing Sam and Demon Dean, we really missed out on it I think!
