1:44:10 I was right there with you! I went into this movie very much like you did; never saw the trailer, vaguely knew there was kung fu, and heard allllllll the hype. I don’t know WTF it took me so long to see this movie! I love me some kung fu, Michelle Yeoh, and Short Round!!! I was so hoping to see your reaction to finding out he was playing Waymond. This movie was, as you said, cathartic AF. Unlike you, I am an ugly cryer. I was absolutely wrecked by this movie, but felt a huge weight had been lifted off of me by the end. The most helpful takeaway from this movie I got from you, even though I’ve watched this movie at least five times by now. You said your girlfriend is into astronomy. I’ve recently become obsessed with black holes. There’s an article on space.com about the probability that we are in one. Makes total sense, I’ve felt like I’ve been in a black hole most of my life. You said something about the universe making us feel small, and I heard Evelyn say “nothing matters” at the end after she says they can do whatever they want. I don’t think I really picked up on that before. It sounded so hopeful, the way she said it. Then came the epiphany. I’m liking the new term neurodivergent, it sounds way cooler than ADHD & Bi-polar disorder. I’ve discovered when I am getting overwhelmed by these soul-sucking conditions, watching videos about black holes and the universe helps calm me. They show me that the F4 tornado full of scattered thoughts and fears don’t actually matter. My crippling anxiety and melancholy over the human condition dissipated as I watched Neil Degrasse Tyson explain gravity to me. I’m really glad I watched this with you. It felt almost as cathartic as the first time, watching you go through the emotions this movie takes one through. You helped me make that connection; look at the big picture to make your problems feel small. And knowing that nothing matters doesn’t have to be a morbid or nihilistic worldview. Wait a second. Did we just become Buddhists? Whoa! Speaking of Buddhism and ADHD and whoa! Keanu Reeves plays Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha’s name before he reached nirvana) in a movie from 1993 called Little Buddha. The sound design and visual effects teams really put everything they have into this movie, as well as the actors and actresses who absolutely smashed it. I love when there's a completely new actor/actress that you've never seen before shine just as much as the already massive actors/actresses that they are working with. I hope in the future marvel can do the same where some truly underrated or even new people can get the chance to shine and surprise us, sometimes it just feels exhausting seeing the same famous faces over and over.
