I think the reason Earth Queen is so controlling and arrogant is because she saw her father as weak. Remember in ATLA, his entire life he was manipulated by Long Feng and the Dai Li. When he first truly took power, he let in Azula who conquered Ba Sing Se. King Kuei was seen an incompetent leader who almost let his kingdom collapse. His daughter refuses to be a weak link. Reminds me of The Prince of Egypt with Pharaoh Rameses, fear being more powerful than love.

Yeah I liked that they fleshed out Jinoras abilities because it makes the rushed solution in the book 2 finale less out of nowhere, since it's becoming more of a power of air, than some deus ex magic never seen again trope. Of course Korra has improved but I totally agree with Greg as well about Mako. He's getting more beats than just the love interest. The stern attitude from the hard upbringing and having to be the parent taking care of himself and Bolin. The Fire Nation stuff is probably just not being focused on because of how much they were in the spotlight in the previous show. About rhe spirit stuff, don't forget, the physical and spirit worlds aren't merged. They are separate dimensions. But Korra left the portals open, located in the North and South Poles, meaning Spirits can live in the physical world if they choose, and humans can roam the spirit world. So the result of that is mainly we just see more spirits around, and the biggest change that happened as a result was the energy of the Convergence created Airbenders. Super happy that you're digging this season and I've never seen Olivia so supportive of Korra before. It's honestly.... kinda scary 🤣 see you guys next week!
