Clara's line "Not with me. Die with whoever comes after me, you do not leave me." really is a great expression of her love for the doctor but also is a great expression of her character. She is willing to do what is right for the greater good, but when it comes to the doctor, and even sometimes herself, she is selfish and controlling despite being aware of the fact that he won't be with her forever. My favorite part of the companions are usually their flaws, so I just love how relatable and true to the character it is for the line to be written that way.

2022-07-11 20:51:42 +0000 UTCi'll be honest, i can never retain the plot to this two parter beyond the ghosts in the underwater base and the "Who composed Beethoven's Fifth?" monologue. The 12th doctor's habit of breaking the fourth wall and talking directly at the camera is a trait specific to his incarnation and imo it's one of the cleverest things they did with him, since it plays to Capaldi's strengths as a stage actor. Also I keep thinking these earlier episodes of series 9 work better on a rewatch bc of the foreshadowing. I was watching the highlights going "oh shit that hits different now." Arguably a flaw of this season, that you don't get to appreciate how tight and thoughtful the writing is (save for one dud) until you get to the end.
