The Vampire Diaries had a great backdoor pilot in S4 "The Originals" which turned into a full spin-off that it's regarded by many as better than the main show. I know the feel for TVD on this patreon page is low (based on the poll from a couple years ago), but whatever bad opinions you may have about TVD, The Originals is the exact opposite in that it has a much more mature tone, better acting, and intriguing plots that don't revolve around love triangles but more around a blend of reality and fictional culture as it's set in New Orleans. I know many of you who don't like TVD won't care about the comment, but I wanted to mention this since John thrown out the subject of "good backdoor pilots" and this is an example that's worth your time, even if you didn't saw the main show and might not be familiar with the backstories, The Originals does enough recaps that won't make you feel you're missing much. I'll keep trying to introduce our boys to this world even if it looks like a loosing battle, there's just some things from this world like Klaus Mikaelson deserving of more notoriety than it gets.
