There is actually a tie-in video game called Captain America: Super Soldier. It takes place during the war montage and Cap encounters Baron Zemo’s father as well as Iron Cross (the first Iron Man prototype). Almost the entire cast returned for motion capture and voice over so it felt canon instead of sound-a-likes.

The War stuff could have been darker sure, but I think it's more about Steve's character. I know he doesn't smile much and stuff, but his stoick nature can be kind of inspiring. Mainly because he was noble, and selfless before the serum. He was already strong in character just weak physically. Thats why Captain America is probably my favorite hero in the MCU.
For the villain, he's called the Red Skull. Thats his villain name at least lol. And the Tesseract seemed to completely disintegrate him into like space for some reason. We don't know enough about what the Tesseract is, but it was brought back in with Thors end credit scene, so we'll see more of it.
Also a small detail, the Serum Steve received is one we've seen before. In The Incredible Hulk, the villain of that movie, Emil Blonsky, aka The Abomination, also was injected with that serum. The English soldier that had the needles injected into his neck and spine was the Super Soldier Serum. Thats why he ran faster and was more agile than everyone else. Then he received the Gamma radiation that made him like Hulk. So its cool to see things come back around. The first Captain America movie is really enjoyable, but the second and third ones are absolutely incredible. Can't wait for The Avengers! ❤️
