yes they didnt have a season in 2016. Instead they started a spin off called class. But it didnt do well enough. It only had one season

I enjoy how the show flipped the script on The Christmas Carol idea. In the 2010 Christmas special, The Doctor was the one who turned a Scrooge-type character into a happier man. Whereas in this episode, The Doctor is the Scrooge who needs to find happiness. His happiness doesn't last forever but his life is made better for now.

"maybe this isn't a really something a true dw fan might say but I don't really need the adventure-of-the-week stuff as much, it can just be about them" (paraphr) Greg, in my experience as a fan of the revival, a quintessential part of being dw fan is not agreeing on what makes for good or bad (or at least not as good) doctor who . I'd agree with you, btw. but the weekly wacky sci-fi adventure is an essential part of the show's DNA and moffat's era actually got flak for taking too much away from the self-contained stories to focus on characters and series-long arcs. So your mileage may vary, idk. anyway, thanks again for the reaction! This is my second favorite christmas special, I love the doctor showing some character growth. From everything with Clara and avoiding River for fear of 'the end' to finally accepting that life is finite. He got to enjoy the time he had with her, "and they lived happily."
