Aang first encountered Toph in a vision in ATLA 2x4 when he was going through the trauma of being forced into the Avatar state and also leaving Bumi in prison. In the vision, he saw Toph as a child playing with a flying boar. The leader of the Swamp Waterbenders told Aang that time is an illusion and that it was someone he will meet. Aang did meet eventually her but when the next Avatar goes through another trauma, the Swamp draws her back to meet her old friend. In ATLA 3x6, Roku also taught Aang that friendships can transcend lifetimes. Gyatso was a friend of Roku who helped Aang and now Toph was a friend of Aang who can help Korra.

You can be a great earth bender Greg! with all those holes you keep digging for yourself.😂 To be clear, I don't really have an opinion on your relationship because it's non of my business, I just enjoy the comedic aspect of your discussions and just wanted to join in on the fun a little.
About the actual show, I love how they keep the consequences going from the previous ark, it shows how good this show can be season to season when they are not held back by the network. This is for me the best Korra has been, and yes this is shapen up to be a good "resurgents ark".
