Alrighty, here's a big ol' album of WIPs and snippets from my process with last month's Hancock image set!
I included the standard progress shots of one alt from lineart to final, but I also included some random snippets/screenshots of different alts I took mid-process. This set was more complex than I anticipated, and my ADHD likes to manifest as "Okay... But what the fuck was I even doing??" - so it majorly helped to take screengrabs to get my bearings and think about how to proceed. And as you can probably tell with the image of all the sketched heads, I spent a big chunk of time abusing (and feeling very grateful for) the iPad Pro's split-screen feature. Comparing things side by side was essential. 😂
IN SUMMARY - This process taught me a lot. Even though the whole thing took longer than I expected, jumping into the deep end with something this ambitious helped me work way more efficiently in pretty much every conceivable way. I got over my aversion towards freehanding selections with the lasso tool, learned how to cope with Procreate's absurdly low layer limit, simplified my shading process (praise jeebus), and forced myself to plan ahead more than I usually do... Which all made simpler illustrations seem like a walk in the park. My workflow went to bootcamp and my art muscles are SWOLE. 💪
Also - I decided to experiment with some textured brushes this time around and LOVED the result. I'm super excited to make more art with this approach, and to put everything I learned to good use with this month's illustrations ♥ Can't wait to give y'all more porn to enjoy!
