[YT Edit] Mission Impossible II

I saw this in theaters and I still don't know why so many hated it? I liked it a lot more than the first one.. but 3 on is when the series really takes off and gets good

[I've been away; very late reply just so you don't think I'm ignoring you :-) .] You're certainly correct that Face/Off has a better chance in that it's more popular and has more reactions. (Not to mention that one can easily make the case it's a better movie.) Hard Target remains one of my sentimental favourites, though. Its obvious limitations (JCVD :-) ) are more than made up for by its unapologetic ridiculously over-the-top Style. (And unbelievably, Lance Henriksen challenges Nicolas Cage in the overacting department!)

Here’s an excerpt from a magazine interview where John Woo explains his fascination with doves: “I love doves. I am a Christian. Doves represent the purity of love, beauty. They’re spiritual. Also, the dove is a messenger between people and God. When I was in high school and I used to draw posters for the church, I would draw a picture of a dove. When I shot The Killer, these two men, the killer and the cop, they work in different ways, but their souls are pure, because they do the right thing. In the church scene, I wanted to bring them together. I wanted to use a metaphor of the heart. I came up with doves-they’re white. When the men die, I cut to the dove flying-it’s the soul, rescued and safe, and also pure of heart. So the dove became one of my habits: I used it in Hard-boiled, Face/Off, and in [M:I-2], at the end of the movie.”

I agree, a little bit turned into too much. I think if it had been a little less of the John Woo style then it probably would have been a great instead of good movie.

John Woo is the reason why so many of these scenes are cringy and cheesy.

This was directed by John Woo; arguably the most famous Hong Kong director. He has a fantastic action style. Slow mo madness.

Cassie this is the most fun and entertaining Mission Impossible movie. This is definitely the high watermark of the franchise from a pure fun standpoint. By far my favorite!

They don't spoil it anymore than the movie's trailer does... or any more than the old TV show used to do when they would show clips of the episode in the intro to that episode. They're cut together so quickly, that you don't even really know what they are until a rewatch.

I never saw any in theaters but a while back I watched them all and yes I started to look away during the opening credits. I don't wanna see all the big action things that are about to happen

Well, they don't spoil anything in the movie really. I think it's okay. I mean, when you were in the theater, did you close your eyes during the opening title sequence? I know I never did.
