God of Grief – 001

Chapter 001 – Prologue – A Broken Man

A cool autumn breeze blew some scattered leafs over the quiet graveyard, as a man stood before a family grave.

He had been standing there for a few hours, and would probably do so for another few, like he did every weekend.

The man's face was without emotion, but his eyes were filled with a hollow despair and endless longing.

He had been coming here for nearly three years, since the day he had buried his wife and two daugthers here. They had died in a car accident caused by a drunk driver.

The absolute anguish he had felt when he received the new of their passing, had been easier to endure at the beginning, as he could bury it under the hate he had felt for the one to cause this accident.

But after so much time has passed, what was left was nothing but an emptiness in his chest that couldn't be filled by any amount of hate, so he had let it go.

The man couldn't find closure or rest, as they had been his whole world.

His boring office job being nothing more than a tool that had enabled him to place a smile on the faces of his loved ones. Without them there was no aim, no goal to work towards.

He still worked at the office, using his work to forget about the void their absence had left in his heart.

The man had thought about taking his own life numerous times, but who else but him would then keep the memory of them alive? Who would make sure that their absence was noticed? Who would miss them?

His existence was the sole reminder, that they had been with him at one point and he couldn't bring himself to erase that.

Even as it began to rain the man didn't move from his spot, as he only hoped that the cold downpour would be able to numb his grief for a short moment of relief.

Suddenly the sky turned darker rapidly, before shadows started to come alive in a feat of supernatural power and surrounded the man broken by grief.
