I know that these may seem overused or a bit cliche, but I can only ask you to have some trust in me, that I have my plans and won't make this some generic Fan-Fiction of which there are enough out there.
If you have read my others stories than you should be aware that I like unique and individualistic characters, that don't just go and play hero, because they think it's fun.
Elijah is the same. He will do what he feels is right and won't be swept up by the tide and just blindly follow the X-Men in their battles. He may join them on some missions, but not without a reason and definitely not to play hero.
At this point in the story, he also has no idea in how much trouble he actually is, what kind of villains and threats are out there, so he did the smart thing and moved to a temporary safe haven.
He will eventually move on when he is ready and prepared, but until then he needs a place to develop his powers and ready himself for the eventual events that will happen, like the Chitauri Invasion or Apocalypse's Awakening.
Also important to note, if you haven't understood that already, the Ancient One HAD TO appear as she is the authority when it comes to temporal anomalies on Earth. There simply was no way that she would have left the MC alone and if she had thought he was a threat than she would have killed him for sure. There was no bargaining, no plea for life, exactly because she did not see Elijah as a threat. She doesn't have to be convinced of his intentions as she knows about those already.
Now with that, I hope you get a better understanding of why the story started like it did and what the future may hold for him. So, enjoy the story!
