FIRST TIME WATCHING: The Wolverine!!

Comments

It's weird that this movie is on HBO and not Disney, but, licencing is a strange beast. I remember liking this movie... I can't believe it's like, 9 years old. Wolverine for some reason has always been very associated with Japan. Let's rock this thing! So the Super healing was needed for Wolverine to SURVIVE the application of his adamantium skeleton. Once it's on, it behaves just like bones, that are heavy and metal and unbreakable. He doesn't constantly need to heal from the bones, or something. (Deadpool on the other hand...)

Cory Silver

Yea i get ya. Best guess would be magneto repaired the claws, maybe stripped some adamantium from other parts of his skeleton or something to put over the claws. But yea would have been nice to know.

Brian E

"I really hope that isn't her fiance in there... but I guess mariko did kiss logan" you think they only kissed and then laid down to sleep in the same bed? Lol. Fun reaction video.

Brian E

Never mind, I just watched on HBO Max to be in sync....for the record it's theatrical (there was only 1 f-bomb as opposed to the Unrated Cut's 2)

Trevor S Bright

Does anyone know if Nat reacted to the theatrical or the unrated cut?

Trevor S Bright

3 days late, but if you happened to not watch it yet, Nat literally says it 3 and a half-ush minutes into the intro. She is using HBOmax. Word of warning if you are out of the US or using a VPN, you may have syncing troubles because she is apparently watching on HBO Max and they actually change the encoding based on regions... so a couple of frames per second really adds up over time. I love your violence/blood based syncing technique tho lololol.

Foxyguava

I'm trying to figure out if you watched the theatrical cut or the unrated version which is on the blu ray by reading the comments but I guess I'll have to find out by watching half way though when the fights either have, or don't have blood, lol.

YodatheHobbit

Just finished watching your reaction, can’t wait to see the next couple films especially Days of Future Past. It’s probably the best out of the whole franchise imo. Also will say it again, I hope you watch the extended version The Rogue Cut. I think it’s better to watch that cut, but seeing as the theatrical version is only the one on Disney+ and The Rogue Cut is on Amazon but you have to rent it. Also not many other people are recommending it, you’re most gonna likely watch the theatrical cut. Oh well it is what it is.

NFXx

I just saw you uploaded this to YouTube and I was confused because I didn’t know you had uploaded your reaction on patreon already. I guess I missed this when I was going through my emails.

NFXx

I'm so excited for you to get to Logan. Greetings from Germany :)

Marius Schmeer

From a pilot: The best way to explain turbulence is imagine the air the plane is flying in is a square of jello. The plane is suspended inside. Give the jello a good shake and the plane will move around as the jello jiggles but it will stay in the same place as it settles. The movement of the jello is turbulence and it's almost impossible for it to cause a plane to crash.

MightyHobo

Basically Charles molded his new body to look like the old one. The body matches the soul and all that. Also remember the "holding your heart in your hand" line, and remember that "heart" can be metaphorical and not literal. Just remember that.

Inhuman Paradox

Technically they're not a different race, they're a different species. Just as Homo Sapiens are not the same species as Neanderthals.

Inhuman Paradox

why ahah

Hugo deroo

You used the phrase "For lack of a better term". I hate to point this out but mutants are a different race. I don't think that makes treating them badly (slavery & death), in any way OK but they are a different race.

Garrick Smalley

While definitely better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine, this movie suffers from an overly convoluted script and pacing issues IMO. The wild think is that we still have the highest highs, and lowest lows, of the X-Men movies still to come!

Erik Stevenson

For me this was the biggest disappointment of an adaptation. It is still a good movie as long as I do not compare it. Very much looking forward to Logan. Another fine reaction and I do still wish I could react in real time to your questions.

Garrick Smalley

I believe the version of this that was supposed to be explained, but left on the cutting room floor was that Charles was born a twin, but the other one was born with no brain function and was put on life support all this time. Pretty lazy explanation, but the X-Men franchise isn't known for it's continuity.

Aaron Lovik

Since you mentioned Logan I highly recommend you watch the official trailer for it. Either before or after the movie (if you want less possible spoilers) its really good and i dislike most trailers. Maybe make the trailer part Patron only?

Theoshin

Thank you for another great reaction, Natalie! I definitely thought this film was an improvement compared to the first Wolverine film. Also, since this reveals Logan was enrolled for World War II and Disney finally has the rights to X-Men, I hope there will be a point that MCU shows us that Logan and Captain America somehow met during the war. That would be so cool! Even if it's only a What If episode. I'll take anything.

Philip

I actually like Origins: Wolverine more than this one. They both have their pros and cons. But the Days of Future Past movie coming up is probably my favorite of every X movie other than Deadpool, but that probably shouldn't count because it's such a different thing.

Robert Reichle

Jean Grey looks so hideous. What did she do to herself?

Robert Reichle

So the reason why he still looks the same is because when his body was torn apart in x3 he was using a surrogate body of a brain dead person which he can make look as himself, which he kind of demonstrates in first class, where he camouflages his team in the back off the truck. He can do this with anyone brain dead or not, he can take control of a body and make it appear as himself to others.

Alvin Baca

Side note I just ordered some of Nat’s merch did anyone else see the holiday shirt/sweater? I’m guessing that’s supposed to be koda snuggled up…too cute 😆

Charlie Keeler

He just make you think he look the same (: Days of future past is pretty good and Logan too. On a side note, seems like I have the longer version because I am constantly pausing your video to catch up xD

FatLittleButterfly

I saw HUGH JACKMAN on Broadway, too, but it was THE BOY FROM OZ about the composer of the ARHTUR song. He was an amazing live performer.

Jason Dolan

Can't wait for you to get to Deadpool. Also you should do all Spider-Man movies including Tobey Maguire Trilogy and Andrew Garfield for upcoming Spider-Man No Way Home movie.

Kalle-Tapani Isomaa

Hugh Jackman is the best choice to play Wolverine - Nate your screams woke the dog and got him howling lol X-Men is a good choice to react to because of so many movies - Deadpool is going to be great

JarHead0351

I'd say that the original Batmen movies are worth checking out (Batman: the Movie; Batman; Batman Returns too, although I'm not a big fan. Honestly, even Batman Forever... it's not a good movie, but I'm not sure it's bad either. It's just *weird*. But, to me at least, it's weird in an interesting way.) The Spiderman movies are very much of their time... the voice-over narration didn't age well, Kristen Dunst is charming as hell as MJ but she's given pretty lackluster material to work with... JJJ is maybe the best comic book movie casting of all-time. And of course, with the new MCU Spidey coming out, it may be worth watching those 3 (the 2nd is regarded as the best, it definitely has a few moments that are iconic; the 3rd is poop). Maybe the Amazing Spiderman movies too, for the new MCU Spidey, but... they're really not worth watching, honestly. They're pretty bad.

Eric

I just think by now - now that we've gotten the MCU and actual high level comic book movies - the X-Men pale. I think even the first few weren't great, but the cast was fantastic and at least the first two really laid a foundation that understandably got people excited to see more. But after that they really dropped the ball. (Hiring terrible people to direct movies about heroes is probably doomed to failure, honestly.) They did what all-too-many comic book movies used to do (still happens now, but less common), which was to shove way too many storylines and way too many characters/villains in one movie. Also, ironically, they have way too few heroes; there's something like 9 X-Men movies but they're pretty much all Logan/Wolverine movies, with the exception of a few Prof X/Magneto movies with some heavy Jennifer Lawrence involvement. The strength of the X-Men is in it's massive, diverse cast of characters... but they just aren't given anything to do unless it's one of the aforementioned 4. It's a bummer. I look at how charming and funny James Marsden can be and I think he absolutely could've been to Cyclops what Chris Evans was for Captain America: with the right writing team, they could've made a hero often thought of derisively as a boring boy scout and turned him into a likeable, inspiring hero. Bummer.

Eric

i'd just think simpler than making himself look like himself to others. In one comic continuity Charles just transferred himself into the body of his vegetative twin brother. Plus, not everyone is affected by telepathic abilities, at least temporarily.

Foxyguava

Don't forget The Greatest Showman. And he's pretty good in rom coms (I remember seeing him in one with Meg Ryan but can't remember the name of the movie). Dude's got range!

Ilsuk Yang

So, the end credits scene can be explained in a convoluted way. Let's go back to the end credits scene for X-Men: The Last Stand. We see Professor X wake up in the body of the man in the vegetative state. With his telepathic abilities, he could easily make himself look like, well, himself. We know he's exceedingly powerful, so while this scenario is a stretch, it's not as much of a stretch as it looks at first glance. It's a lot like how Mystique continually uses her powers to appear as a young blonde woman. The difference here is that Charles has a much better handle on his abilities as well as the fact that he's much more powerful than her. But this is just a semi-plausible explanation. Anyways, I enjoyed your reaction as always, Nat!

Ilsuk Yang

From here on out, continuity from the prior movies gets a little fluid, so you may just have to go with it.

Tony Johnson

Yep. That end credit scene makes ZERO sense other than, “we said so.” I’m glad other people enjoy these. But they Stent for me. And once again rewatching them with you cements my opinions about all of these.

Jesse Arnold

She already pays for HBO Max. Granted, she should have a VPN anyway but why suffer sub-par bandwidth re-routing through Canada or the UK when she can just use HBO Max

The Golgothan

I vaguely remember something about Jubilee speaking in a deleted scene?

Thomas Yanez

So close to "Deadpool"! *rubs hands together*

Thomas Yanez

natalie: this movies on disney+ for people in canada, UK and europe should have gotten a vpn, perfect segway

Ben Gilshenan

This one grows on me every time i see it. Yukio is awesome. But the next one is the very best of the X-Men movies.

Opti_Frog

I feel like this one is leaps and bounds better than Origins and Logan is leaps and bounds above this. The next two that are up are great. So many payoffs

Ben Violette

Standard :)

Danishprince

Great reaction nat! I'm sure I'll be the 100th person to mention this but it is recommended to watch X:Men Days of Future Past Rogue Cut for a little more story that was removed from the theatrical. I can't wait for your reaction regardless, Days of Future Past is probably my favorite X-Men film!

Boomcity

This movie was really good right up to the third act. We didn't need 'robot silver samurai'

PickettsChargingPort

I've read all the comics that this movie used for inspiration, and I know all the characters, and there's still parts of this movie that leave me going "the huh?" But overall I like it. Huge improvement over Origins. And it's always fun watching movies with you. Parts of me wish they didn't focus so much on Wolverine in these movies, because it means a lot of other interesting characters get pushed off to the side (Storm, Rogue, does Jubilee get even a single line of dialogue in any movie?). And Hugh Jackman is way, way too tall (Wolverine is supposed to be a little guy, like, ya know, a wolverine). But he is just so damn good at being Logan. No, he doesn't get the Clan Yashida princess at the end. Mariko is someone he wants to be worthy of (using his rather messed-up definition) but he never will be - part of him will always be an animal. Yukio, otoh, will happily hop in a jet to anywhere with him, but they're both too wild at heart for anything lasting. We'll just have to see how things turn out for Logan in a later movie ;) Looking forward to Days of Future Past, and then Deadpool is going to be hella fuckin' fun. *stays golden*

Michael Cruse

Hiroyuki Sanada who played Lord Shingen was also the actor who portrayed Akihiko the Yakuda boss Hawkeye as Ronin killed in Avengers Endgame.

Lee Gannon

We are :)

Danishprince

Having to watch The Wolverine feels a lot like having to eat all your vegetables before you can eat dessert. I can't wait until we get to DOFP and Deadpool.......and Logan

Anthony Campbell

I don’t remember are we going in order of release?

Charlie Keeler

Thanks Nat for this new reaction! You definitely made me feel better about the movie hahaha Your comments were really funny, it's nice to see you always so creative to say things 😃 And that brings us closer and closer to Deadpool, I can't wait for your reaction haha Besides, as a native French speaker, it killed me when you thought they were speaking French at the beginning of the film 😆 I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Calo Grsf

Thank you for keeping your journey with the Xmen going. So excited for the next movie Days of Future Past! Glad the end credit scene in The Wolverine got you excited for the next movie as well!! 🙂

Ed Garland

you should really google the extended / alternate plane scene at the end. it gives a nice reference to the comics and Wolverines character. the reason you see Charles at the end is because when he was killed by Jean he put his mind into body of his twin brother P. Xavier. who was born without higher brain functions. you see them mention him at the start of the X men united movie when Charles is talking to the class about powers and ethics. also sadly these movies are inconsistent when it comes to certain things (like Wolverines claws being bone again at the end of this movie and how they look in the remaining movies). the solo Wolverine movies didnt fair so well with the audience (besides Logan) but I really enjoyed them. cheesy or not. I agree with many people on here, you are going to really enjoy the remaining X-men movies.

Endling_king

Oh boy, these next ones are gonna be so fun

Jerry Gonzalez

Don't sweat the small stuff Nat.... I sort of didn't expect you would get back to the X-men films until January. I think everyone is just excited to see you get to Days of Future Past, Logan, and of course Deadpool.

Brian Jones

No Extended Cut? :(

YannickWega

Is this Standard or Extended Natalie? I have Extended and would like to know.

Logan Kerlee

Looks like the HBO Max version is the Standard Edition, I'm afraid. 12 minutes shorter than the Extended.

NotlobParrot

I have the extended edition, will that synch with this?

Xenic Mark

A B-29 is the plane that dropped the bomb.

Ben Wheeler

Which is the next one? I don't mind Days of Future Past but I'd the two deadpool movies and Logan is all I'm waiting for.

PickettsChargingPort

Cant imagine Wolverine without Hugh Jackman.. there are a few movies.. if you switch a actor the movie Francise is over (my opinion ofcourse). Those are.. Matrix - Keanu Reeves. Die Hard - Bruce Willis. X-Men: Wolverine - Hugh Jackman Resident Evil - Milla Jocovich. Mission Impossible - Tom Cruise.

R.BGames37

Happy Friday, Natalie! 😊 I'm downloading this right now so that I can watch it later tonight. I'm really looking forward to watching your reaction to the next installment in the "X-Men" franchise later this evening. Have a great day today! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Randee Carreno

Slowly but surely, we're getting closer to "Logan". That one is a masterpiece. Also, can we all agree that Hugh Jackman is a perfect man, he can perform "Oklahoma" or "les miserables" or X-men. He is a perfect man.

LJ Mickey

This one and the next one are fun. IMO, after Days of Future Past I would just skip to Deadpool/Logan/Deadpool2.

Steve J

Happy Feature Film Friday Nat Loved watching another Far East adventure with ya today. Not seen this movie since it came out, and I had forgotten how good the supporting characters were. And I forgot about "creepy doctor woman" I just remembered the stuff on top of the train 😊 I enjoy watching you get caught up with the character's journey. It's just great to watch. And your line "He's in very good shape, let me say that, he's just not in good condition" had me laughing aloud 😂 Thanks for another great feature reaction today Nat, and thanks as always, for all your brilliant work this week. Have an awesome weekend Nat 💛
