Help me pick a movie to watch!
Added 2022-01-19 17:00:07 +0000 UTCDon't worry, the Spider-Man/X-Men train isn't stopping anytime soon. My Logan reaction will be released this Friday :) But I need something different to throw into the mix.
These are all movies I haven't seen, but am really curious about. Looking forward to seeing what you guys pick!

Would you consider watching The Boys? :)

2022-04-21 15:28:47 +0000 UTCAll four are very good movies. Would highly recommend watching all of them. However the Departed was based on a Hong Kong movie called Infernal Affairs. Would be a great video comparing Western and Eastern cinema and your take on the different styles

2022-02-16 17:41:53 +0000 UTCwhy have i never even heard of the second one? is it on prime or netflix?

2022-01-30 12:18:48 +0000 UTCDrive was an interesting movie but I don't think it would make a good reaction. The Departed was a masterpiece and No Country for Old Men was also very good (both would make great reactions.) I haven't seen Whiplash but it looks like it could make a fun reaction.
The Golgothan
2022-01-27 02:06:06 +0000 UTCAll great movies. Some suggestions for future polls: 1. Jojo Rabbit (dark comedy about WW2 germany, directed by Taika Waititi. I believe it was nominated for Best Picture, won best adapted screenplay, and Scarlett Johannson was nominated for Best Supporting actress) 2. The Impossible (historical drama about Thailand Tsunami of 2004. Stars Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts (Best Actress nom), and Tom Holland

2022-01-26 22:52:04 +0000 UTCI will always pick “Drive” even though it never wins a poll.

2022-01-26 22:06:32 +0000 UTCI just watched The Mitchells vs The Machines on Netflix and it was an unexpected joy. I think you would love it and it's a great movie to react to.

2022-01-24 04:28:28 +0000 UTCNo Country for Old Men is my choice. And though The Departed is a good movie, the original is better imo.
Jan Sørensen
2022-01-23 22:06:01 +0000 UTCThese are all such solid picks. Can’t go wrong with any of them. Also, completely unrelated but you should consider checking out Twin Peaks for your next series after ATLA. It’s a mind fuck, plus there is a movie that goes with it
Casey Walker
2022-01-23 18:16:35 +0000 UTCThe main thing to remember in my experience is that - initials for spoiler reasons - DC is the opposite of D. That's the thing my dad always forgets - also he can't tell the difference. Ever since I saw it in cinemas, I've never been able to relax when a certain setting is involved in fiction.

2022-01-22 20:01:44 +0000 UTCIt's a pretty obscure art house film for most audiences. I vote for it every time but unless put up against other art house films it will never win.
Myles Away
2022-01-22 07:45:12 +0000 UTCIt's funny, for me with The Departed it's such a good movie but the plot is so complex that I forget what it's about and how scenes go if I go 5+ years without rewatching it.
YodatheHobbit
2022-01-22 07:34:37 +0000 UTCDamnit, how is Drive always so low? It's so good. Lots of good movies in this poll though so I'm not too upset this time.

2022-01-22 07:32:53 +0000 UTCThey’re all great. It’s a win either way
John Rando
2022-01-22 02:59:05 +0000 UTCWhiplash is better than both actually. I personally think it’s a classic. Not many flaws in this film, if any.
John Rando
2022-01-22 02:55:34 +0000 UTCAny honestly, pick any one of them 👍👍

2022-01-22 02:50:26 +0000 UTCCould we see Knives Out on an upcoming poll? Netflix just announced the sequel is releasing later this year.

2022-01-21 13:35:12 +0000 UTCI think she’s watching all the Marvel stuff according to their release dates. But I believe she should definitely try to watch the first season of Daredevil before getting into Hawkeye though.
Philip
2022-01-21 07:20:12 +0000 UTCSorry to keep asking, but are you doing "Hawkeye" soon? Idk who told you that you needed to watch "What If?" first, bit you DEF didn't need to. Plus it's only 6 episodes like the other live action MCU shows. I'm super excited to re-watch the show with you! I think you're going to LOVE it!
Jeff E
2022-01-21 05:52:59 +0000 UTCNatalie if you're going to watch some crime movies like Departed, No Country for Old Men and Drive, you should watch Heat sometime soon! I recommended it before but it is a great film with Al Pacino and Robert de Niro. More of an action drama, but it is one of the best films ever made and you should definitely check it out sometime!
Richard Church
2022-01-21 05:47:46 +0000 UTCHolding faithfully out for No Country for Old Men...
Maxwell Hunter
2022-01-21 05:45:32 +0000 UTCreally don't think that No Country for Old Men is a Natalie type of movie - I thought it was far out there and kind of cool, but that just my taste.

2022-01-21 03:27:55 +0000 UTCI'm really hoping for No Country for Old Men. The gap was bigger before, so there's still a chance.

2022-01-20 20:42:29 +0000 UTCI choose Whiplash. It's an amazing film but The Departed is also great. That's gonna be a great reaction!
RandomAndysChannel
2022-01-20 18:09:28 +0000 UTCThey’re all good movies, but not ones I feel particularly wanting to watch a reaction to. They don’t trigger nostalgia I guess. But that could be just me.
Jay Wacker
2022-01-20 17:06:37 +0000 UTCHey Nat, I'd say it's pretty clear that you want to see Drive so I say just react to it, even though it's winning none of the polls. For me, I would pick No Country For Old Men as it's the only one I want to watch, although I'll watch whatever you watch anyway. The only one I've watched is The Departed, which will clearly win this poll. I tend to think that's it's overrated, although I'm probably not as vehemently opposed to it as a lot of the people commenting on this post. No Country For Old Men has always interested me, but, for some reason or another, I've never gotten to it
Ilsuk Yang
2022-01-20 13:33:21 +0000 UTCi think she said she's seen that
Jason Dolan
2022-01-20 12:53:57 +0000 UTCAnd she always put it back in polls because she definitely really wants to see it lol gotta just put it in a poll with 3 duds and it’ll win I guess haha

2022-01-20 07:44:37 +0000 UTCNo Country For Old Men is not a movie. It's a profoundly meaningful life experience that left me contemplating it for a long time after I saw it. But I don't think you get everything there is to understand about it on the first watch; the themes about fate, chaos, random violence. I certainly didn't. It has multiple scenes in it that still give me a chill in my bones, and they're just dialogue scenes. Two people talking, nothing else happening. Chigurh and the old man at the gas station. The young widow and Chigurh in her room. The Sheriff and his uncle at his uncle's run down shack. Chigurh and the two kids on the street. The Sheriff and his wife in their kitchen. I don't know if Natalie would like this film. It's slow paced, with long silences just watching the characters do things, punctuated by bursts of graphic violence, and a lot of people hated how it ends when it came out. It's a tough, gritty film that demands you pay attention. I almost feel like it needs a primer or something to introduce the themes and concepts so everyone can understand the deep meaning behind everything that's happening, or perhaps its absence, but I don't want to post any spoilers. It's easily in my top 3 films and with a gun to my head may actually be #1.

2022-01-20 06:14:23 +0000 UTCHoping for NCFOM but The Departed is amazing too. Win. win.
Grandmazter3 .
2022-01-20 03:51:38 +0000 UTCNo Country For Old Men is the best of these but The Departed is probably a good second.
Julian Welton
2022-01-20 03:01:39 +0000 UTCNo bad choices here
Travis
2022-01-20 02:57:28 +0000 UTCI think that ‘The Departed’ is best of these movies but if I could only pick one I’d probably like to see your reaction to ‘No Country’ the most.

2022-01-19 23:57:16 +0000 UTCYou’ve put Whiplash and more so Drive on these lists so many times it’s super obvious that you’re dying to watch them! Haha just do it! People won’t be upset, they’re great movies.
Marlon Nicolle
2022-01-19 23:41:32 +0000 UTCI think from reading the comments she should just skip The Departed and watch Infernal Affairs instead. Having gotten used to being the lone voice supporting Infernal Affairs, I was pleasantly surprised to see so many other people coming out for it this time.
Richard Maurer
2022-01-19 23:34:43 +0000 UTCIt's funny how many people whine about all the remakes Hollywood does but give The Departed a pass just because it was done by Scorsese.
Richard Maurer
2022-01-19 23:27:47 +0000 UTCAyo, whiplash lowkey a GREAT movie. Departed also a great movie.

2022-01-19 23:27:45 +0000 UTCAfter reading the comments I think it's pretty much in agreement that you should watch all of these Nat.... Just put em' all on the list in the order of the vote and work through them whenever you have a free spot. :)

2022-01-19 23:03:01 +0000 UTCHopefully not it was a horrible movie.

2022-01-19 22:35:03 +0000 UTCAlso, I know I say this every time Drive shows up on a poll .... Natalie, you should just watch this movie. Make it a "Nat's Pick". You clearly want to see it and your cinephile audience would greatly appreciate it.
Myles Away
2022-01-19 22:25:31 +0000 UTCOfficially starting the petition for an Infernal Affairs watchalong in the near future. It is one of the Hong Kong greats, full of the best HK talent, including Tony Leung (the evil father from Shang-Chi). Oh, and the cinematography is stunning.
Marc Ammundsen
2022-01-19 22:08:49 +0000 UTCNo Country for Old Men MAY be the best film of this bunch. Who cares? The Departed is the more entertaining film and will be good fun to watch with you.
Mike LL
2022-01-19 21:39:03 +0000 UTCNo Country for Old Men is the best of these and it's not even close. Hopefully you get to it at some point.
JayF
2022-01-19 21:19:35 +0000 UTCIf the Departed does end up winning, you should also watch Infernal Affairs too - either on your own or a reaction. Because the Departed is actually the American remake of it, but the Chinese original definitely holds up on its own.

2022-01-19 21:05:18 +0000 UTCOh god, Logan! That’ll be interesting.

2022-01-19 20:46:23 +0000 UTCNot my kind of movie. Enjoy whatever gets picked.

2022-01-19 20:19:28 +0000 UTCI don't like the plot of drive, or the characters. But I can't deny the masterful cinematography. It is mesmerizing in its subtlety and is at the same time overtly on the nose. Powerful angles and careful frame compositions. Tender moments and crude violence. Many scenes are wonderfully and frustratingly contemplative. The movie is a contradiction, but one I cannot look away from.
Wu Sha Ling
2022-01-19 20:14:35 +0000 UTCDisney+ is the last platform I'd drop, just for Marvel alone. And they do some great Star Wars content too.

Edward
2022-01-19 20:03:33 +0000 UTCLove we are getting some more media in the more realistic vein. Had to vote for The Departed, but No Country for Old Men is a MUST WATCH as well. Also please think of doing Master and Commander, it is an excellent and underrated movie with a great cast and unique subject matter.
Belendor229
2022-01-19 19:54:16 +0000 UTCAnd? Even if it is subjectively better, I don't recall these polls being "vote for the movies you think are best in quality."
David Crabtree
2022-01-19 19:52:52 +0000 UTCScorsese is overrated in general. After Taxi Driver and Raging Bull the critics started to act like every movie he made was perfect, and Scorsese believed them. And The Departed is a remake of a better Chinese film, Infernal Affairs.
Richard Maurer
2022-01-19 19:50:00 +0000 UTCNo Country for Old Men is the best movie in this poll. The Departed isn't even a original. It's a remake of a Chinese movie, Infernal Affairs. A fact that the people involved with The Departed tried to keep as quiet as possible. Infernal Affairs is also the superior version, considerably better than The Departed.
Richard Maurer
2022-01-19 19:39:19 +0000 UTCAbsolutely agree, I studied in a "Jazz" school and it was an amazing experience. Not that there weren't large egos and extremely high expectations but the abuse that film portrays is kind of ridiculous.

2022-01-19 18:35:29 +0000 UTCAs a professional musician I found Whiplash to be an eye roll, but from the outside I’m sure it was a good story. It’s the Departed for me, followed by No Country.

2022-01-19 18:20:30 +0000 UTCOh boy, Whiplash is like top 5 of all time for me. I love No Country too. The Departed is pretty good, but I didn't vote for it. As for Drive, love the soundtrack and visuals, but it otherwise isn't really for me
XanderWhat
2022-01-19 18:10:11 +0000 UTCThis is probably controversial but I actually think THE DEPARTED is Scorsese's best movie after GOODFELLAS, TAXI DRIVER and RAGING BULL. And it makes for a great reaction.

2022-01-19 17:49:25 +0000 UTCAll top notch. Even if No Country…. Doesn’t win, you should seriously consider doing a Coen Brothers run. All great pretty much and as far I’ve seen no other creator has done them. Plus still waiting for True Romance 😉
Harry Reece
2022-01-19 17:44:27 +0000 UTCHonestly the departed is extremely overrated. Whiplash is easily the best movie on here. And one of the best movies of the last decade. Drive is good too.

2022-01-19 17:40:23 +0000 UTCI really want you to watch a Horror Film Nat! A good one though LOL!

2022-01-19 17:34:01 +0000 UTCNat even if it doesn’t win, you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t watch No Country for Old Men(on your own). Departed is fine not one of Marty’s best but the performances are outstanding. But if you want a masterclass in story and tension I’d be hard pressed to put anything above No Country (in my top five of any film I’ve seen) Plus doing a Coen Brothers run would be good times

2022-01-19 17:15:47 +0000 UTCI am baffled why everyone loves The Departed. Even Scorsese admits it's his weakest offering... maybe it's just the plot concept. In which case, you're missing out if you don't see Infernal Affairs, the film it's based on. Absolute masterpiece.

2022-01-19 17:09:33 +0000 UTCHonestly all really good movies. No Country is probably a top 3 movie of all time for me. And I really think you would enjoy Whiplash and would make for a great reaction. It's a movie that has lead to a lot of great discussion for me in the past.

2022-01-19 17:07:03 +0000 UTCOne day Ryan Gosling will release the handbrake, race ahead to the finish line and it will be a glorious day. One day, but there's some great movies here to watch with Nat in the meantime 😊

2022-01-19 17:03:54 +0000 UTCHappy Wednesday, Natalie! 😊 I had a difficult time with this poll. Couldn't decide between "The Departed" or "Whiplash". I love both of those movies. "The Departed" ended up getting my vote for this poll. Really looking forward to your "Logan" reaction on Friday. Have a great day today! 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

2022-01-19 17:03:41 +0000 UTCThese are all great movies, definitely watch Drive when you can, the tension and soundtrack are great. But I’m voting for The Departed, it’s such a stressful film that I think you’ll have a lot of fun watching it!

2022-01-19 17:03:34 +0000 UTCThe Departed is my 3rd favorite movie of all time. Whiplash is incredible as well.
