FIRST TIME WATCHING: Stranger Things S3E3!!

Jake Busey has been doing some really good scifi mook work recently.

Charles Herbig

It's Will's time to shine! A big part of his story has been slowly hiding and developing in the background since season 1. In the first Season you hear Joyce mention how Will's dad used to call him the F word or they'd say he was 'queer', then you had those bullies who constantly made references to Will being dead and off to "fairy land" to be all "gay and happy with all the other fairies". In Season 2 when Joyce has that 1-on-1 with Will tied to a chair in the shed as the mindflayer to try and snap some sense into him she mentioned how on one of his birthday's she got him a big set of Crayola crayons and his other friends got him Star Wars related stuff but he only cared about the crayons and he drew this big spaceship using every color and he called it a "rainbow ship", also when Max was driving everyone to the site to save the day, as Steve was waking up from being beaten to a bloody pulp by Billy you see rainbow-colored Band-Aids on his face, all from Joyce's house. Will was the only one of the group who wasn't "girl crazy" when Max was the new character - Mike was already fixated on El while Dustin and Lucas were obsessed with Max but Will didn't really care for her. The scene where he storms off after Mike tells him he doesn't like girls was heartbreaking. Will just wants to be a kid and play D&D with his friends like the good o' days, but at the same time he's coping with his sexuality and I think he's unable to confront his feelings head on (he can't just blurt out to Mike that he likes him or he likes boys) so he masks it by playing D&D (as an LGBT person I related to this scene a lot, when you're infatuated with someone you know you can't have you'll do anything just to spend time with them, including playing a board game and you might even convince yourself you'll be doing that forever) so when Mike didn't want to play that hit hard for Will. Even though Will would never have a shot with Mike in that way, his only solace, his next-best-option, his only safe space, his only compromise (which was playing D&D with Mike) was now shattered. The tearing up of the photo and smashing of Castle Byers hit close to home too, I've been down that same path of "F*** ALL THIS!! WHY'D I HAVE TO FALL FOR ANOTHER STRAIGHT GUY, RAHHHHH!"

Brandon

That’s not the mayor

Travis

Dude, you are burning through those eps! I can't wait until you get to season 4. We all will be looking forward to watching you cry.

Philip Davetas

Hey, did anybody mention that it wasn't the mayor, it was Nancy's boss ; )

Richard Maurer

It wasnt the mayor, it was the chief editor of the paper

Daniel jackson

Enjoyed watching this with ya. :) I'm glad that you're still a fan of the show, despite it not being like previous seasons. My fave has always been the first season, but that's me.

Logan Kerlee

Great comparison.

Logan Kerlee

season 1 is really the only good season tho

alejandro

The blonde jerk at the newspaper is Jake Busey, Gary Busey’s son

Ben Wheeler

I only noticed myself because I recognized Cary Elwes right off the bat

Ben Wheeler

Yeah I really don't understand that "back on track" either. IMO This is my favorite season, with a small exception, which I won't mention at this time *spoilers*

BJ Stephens

If you know a little about D&D, Elle's power are like Scry. The more she's close to the person she's spying on, the easier it is.

Daniel Vezina

That isn’t the mayor ._.

The stuff in that building that took over the rats and Billy and now others was the dust/smoke-monster stuff that came out of Will at the end of the last season. It didn't vanish/dissipate/instantly go back to the UpsideDown, it 'ran away', flying out of the building, so was still about somewhere. That's just where it ended up. The subterranean basement of the building likely cool enough for it to stay just waiting for anything living to ... 'possess', I guess, either taking over people the way it did Will, or just claiming their mass. Also, as others've said... that wasn't the mayor. The mayor is Cary Elwes. And is blonde. that guy is ... or was... Nancy's boss. And is grey. Also, you know Max knew something was up at that house... her brother was being nice.

Misty Crom

@Aaron Chandler both things are true. he's worked up because he just wants to be a kid, because yes, he's lost 2 years of his childhood. but he's also worked up about Eleven and Mike because he likes Mike, but i wouldn't call that lazy writing.

alejandro

In each season(1-3) the scale of the danger ramps up without much of an explanation as to why these strange things are happening other than it is tied to Will and Eleven. The 4th season actually reveals an explanation.

Robert Z Miller

Random factoid: The music Will uses to wake them up for the game is from The Dark Crystal when the Podlings are feasting.

Michael G. Munz

That was fun. Now I’ll go start bracing myself for Hereditary, I guess…

Ben Wheeler

Watching Nat's reaction when Steve talking crap about HS Girls taking Drama- LMAO! Definitely a Golden moment! Another awesome reaction video and had a feeling S3 was going to be so much fun!

Alan Felicia

I totally said out loud "oh no the mayor" when they showed the painting. I've seen the show before. The two dudes look similar enough, and it doesn't help they're both tremendous assholes.

Shen V

I never took Wills issue as struggling with sexuality. I took it as a kid who lost two years of his prime youth. More so than the other boys. So he is a bit behind their development as a result. That to me is much more nuanced. Will can be gay. That's fine. But if it was the Duffers intent that this moment was that then that's just lazy writing. Also, both things can be true.

Aaron Chandler

Why are you giving Natalie a hard time? She often has things figured out before I do.

Jim Lent

nah i made the same exact mistake when i first watched you can chill tho 💀

idcjayyy

That would bring new context to Nat's line about the Mike/Will scene being like a romantic breakup.

Ed Green

I love season 3 so I never really understood the comments about season 4 getting it “back on track” either 😂 Also, Nat, this episode has one of the bigger hints to the idea that Will is struggling with his sexuality - when Mike says he doesn’t like girls - and if you look at Will’s struggles from that POV I think it really helps understand him a little better 😄 protect my boy!!!

Daniel McGuinness

Because they're both old generic looking white dudes. Relax.

themightyabe

I honestly didnt differentiate first time watching either. Also theres like a dozen MAIN characters in this show, with an equal amount of supporting characters. Theres a lot going on

Adam Baker

You should watch Scream Queens for spooky season

DarquanJr

That is a wonderful dress Natalie.

fanofactionflicks

That was another fun reaction today Nat, although the moment where El saw Billy through the radio telepathy was genuinely creepy. You're still determined to get everyone to move out of Hawkins Nat ha ha, and I loved how your opinion of Steve seemed to drop when he condemned drama students 😂 Nothing calms the nerves like an end titles sing-song 😀 Thanks for a great video Nat 💛

Darryl Low

It's really not a big deal, aha. I mean they're both white males with grumpy expressions and light almost greyish hair who we don't see a lot AND she's filming a commentary so I don't blame her for not knowing just yet. She'll figure it out next episode and all will be good in the world again.

RationallySassy

How the hell did she think the newspaper editor was the mayor? They dont even look vaguely like each other and hes been bullying Nancy for the past 3 episodes

ButtyOh

Hereditary will be the movie :)

Danishprince

It's not the mayor, it's Tom Holloway, Nancy's newspaper editor.

Jim Lent

Pretty sure Hereditary won the poll

Dante

That wasn't the mayor. The mayor is played by Cary Elwes (the guy from Princess Bride) :)

TGrimace

Yeah the Mayor is Wesley from Princess Bride.

Jayson Phillips

Idk if you noticed, but the mayor is played by Cary Elwes, who played Westley in A Princess Bride and Robin Hood in Robin Hood Men in Tights.

Argo2Unitard

Heather's dad is actually Nancy's boss! Not the Mayor. They do look very similar

Ashton Knapp

Heather's father is not the mayor, it's Nancy's boss at the Hawkins post

Ido Gordin

Hereditary maybe? That one should be interesting lol

Chris H

Anyone know the schedule this week? I think I missed it. What movie will she be watching tomorrow? Or will it be a surprise 😮?
