FIRST TIME WATCHING: Werewolf by Night!!

Happy SURPRISE (or special) SATURDAY!!

Let's settle in and watch a cozy, spooky, black and white film?...presentation?...special? idk...whatever! Either way, I had fun with this one.

I promise the intro on the final yt video will be slightly less cringey with better editing haha. Only slightly though...

Also, stay tuned to the very end of the video to check out a blooper scene from me :)

Hope you all are having a great weekend! Take care and stay golden (and spooky)!

I liked how even Jack as a werewolf was a throwback to the classic Universal Wolfman style. This was so much fun.

David Lonewolf Wright

thats the way he looks in the comics

Guy-on-Couch

he also looks that way in the comics too

Guy-on-Couch

"Ack Ack Ack Ack" --Mars Attacks Aliens

Foxyguava

No, Huge Ackman

Thomas Richter

who, me?

Hugh Jacked-Man

Werewolves Within, if not this Natmare season I hope in next. Horror comedy with heart.

Eric Trinidad

But, it has a warewolf.

Thomas Richter

In a movie filled with monsters the most unbelievable scene involved a horse drawn carriage and a chasm.

Richard Maurer

Is that better than the one with Hugh Jackman, because that one sucks AND blows.

Opti_Frog

You should watch Van Helsing with Huge Ackman

Thomas Richter

His character name is Jack Russel... lol

Martin

Hi Nat. So happy no one spoiled this for you. I know you are great at reading clues but I thought they did a great job revealing Jack was the werewolf. The actress playing Elsa is in the Britannia series I’ve suggested for you. She plays a great character I think starting in season 2. Thanks for the surprise reaction. ✌️💚

Trish Murphy

Having worked in a cinema for years before the transition to digital, I got so used to seeing the changeover marks I don't notice when they aren't there. They just immediately grab my attention when they do appear.

John

Lol

Parker

Dude, I suggest you make like the rest of us and pretend to have something better to do for a while

Ed Green

My dear, (politely) I ask, WHERE THE HELLS STRANGER THANGS!? 😉

Pat_Bez

I noticed that as well. That is true dedication to a bit.

G. T. Blackwell

sometimes the internet pipes get spiders in them

Martin

I liked how they added the burn/cue marks in the upper right corner, to help simulate old films that were filmed on.... film. Fairly subtle, but still a welcome addition.

Jomero

according to google there has been a timezone change where nat is staying, but due to a glitch she is now in 1982. Next episode is gonna be 40 years late :(

Martin

well this sucks

NawDood

People on discord are saying there's a glitch where the video is only visible to those who are pure of heart. I dunno if they are messing with me though :(

Martin

no video today? :(

Miramir

No video today?

Len

What do you mean the yt will be less cringe? Natalie, we are PAYING for cringe. We are here for cringe. Embrace the cringe, become it.

Martin

Some comics trivia (which may or may not be MCU canon) - Ted's last name is Sallis, as he was once a human, That's where the Man part of Man-Thing comes from. Jack's real name is Jacob Russoff, he changed it to Jack Russell showing that he (or the writer anyway) had a sense of humor - Jack Russell Terriers, get it? And in the comic he originally resembled The Wolfman from Universal studios, though in later comics he had a more wolf-like head.

Richard Maurer

This was my third time watching Werewolf by Night and I really enjoyed watching it along with you Nat! Oh, and I guess since no one's mentioned it yet (that I've noticed), the next announced Marvel 'Special' is the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming later this year!

TreehouseOfJorge 4 - Resurrection

Just got done watching Nat's reaction and was going to mention this if someone else hadn't already. Thanks Matthew!

TreehouseOfJorge 4 - Resurrection

It's a fun watch. I've seen both versions.

Logan Kerlee

I really enjoyed this one! I'm glad that they made this special feature. A very fun watch that wasn't scary at all. This was just a very fun watch that was also pleasantly dark. I also happen to really like werewolf stories usually. I'm a dog person, I guess that's the reason why but I'm not certain. Zombies are a bit too freaky for me. Vampires are cool though. I'm a huge fan of them. When it comes to Halloween horror the order I'd watch things are Vampire flicks, supernatural stuff, Werewolves and last Zombies. That's me though!

Logan Kerlee

Oh my goodness, you might my day so often Nat! I'm loving all of these fun crazy intros :D And this was sweet, I think I have a soft spot for Werewolves too thanks to Lupin (spoilers for HP, though I feel like that's something most people know already) :P Anyway, just watched HotD ep2, looking forward to the next one!

Yani Dodge

I think werewolves are just really big dogs, so that explains the softspot :-)

DMON

Hey Natalie, Love your reactions, I know u got already have a lot of stuff to watch but alongside Stranger Things & HotD. Please watch keep in mind to watch Andor too, becz it's telling a great story

Ahmad Zain

sunday funday!

Jacketb

This was pretty great ngl 👌

Ian

I really liked it, but to be honest I just get excited any time the werewolf sub-genre gets a little love, the werewolf is my favorite of the classic monsters and good werewolf movies/shows are few and far between. Maybe I like the werewolf so much because I've always loved dogs, and wolves being their wild ancestors; obviously I'd never want to meet a wolf in the wild, or in a dark alley, but something about their intensity and intelligence, and the fact that they are extremely loyal to their own, you have to respect that, you hardly see that level of loyalty in humans let alone animals. Anyway, just gotta plug "Wolf", with Jack Nicholson, I think an underrated werewolf flick, and of course "Dog Soldiers", can't call myself a werewolf fan without mentioning that one.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Jack's makeup is to honor Mexican Day of the Dead holiday.

Matthew Shaver

Something else you may like the TV show "Being Human" about a Werewolf, Vampire, and ghost sharing an apartment. There is both a UK (original version) and US version. UK is more of a slow burn. The show is a drama with some horror elements.

SilentBobFather

Great reaction Nat! This was a fun special presentation, I love the shorter runtime and simple story that allows us to explore a different corner of the MCU. If you like wolfy werewolves, you really have to check out Dog Soldiers and Ginger Snaps sometime!

Erik Stevenson

you have to laugh deep in your throat to make it sound diabolical... 😊🙃

Mannygogou

It is a lot easier to sell a convincing maniacal laugh if you put your body into it. Trying to convincingly laugh maniacally while sitting straight, facing the camera with your held arms at your sides is a fail before you even start.

Thomas Yanez

A producer said that the werewolf transformation scene was done all in camera. So they had to time different people in different positions/costumes along with the lighting perfectly.

Robert Miller

Yeah, I didn't know any of the other characters or lore, but I knew Man-Thing the instant I saw him. Very jazzed.

Thomas Yanez

If you know it isn't going to be spooky or scary, why do the intro like this? I don't get why so many reactors are pushing this thing like it is scary, and not just what it is : a bootstrap of some characters and lore for future entries in the supernatural side of the MCU. Did Disney throw checks at all the reactors to sell it as a scary movie? Now, don't get me wrong. I did like it. I loved the style (too bad they won't be staying with the black and white) and look forward to some of the future MCU (though I've been hearing recently that "Blade" might be on the chopping block (and was, at minimum, pushed back to 11/2024)). The only thing in the MCU that I find spooky is how unfocused Phase 4 has ended up. We're something like 15 or 16 releases into Phase 4 and where the Hell are we going with it? Phase 1 reached "The Avengers" in 6 titles.

Thomas Yanez

Man Thing was part CG/part practical, but, yes, for the most part everything was done in-camera.

Anonymous Groucho

Well done Marvel well done! Man-Thing is teds name in the comics cant wait till they get all the night heros together like Ted and Moon knight and blade! gonna be epic!

Jayson Phillips

awesome

Daniel Ketchum

YAY!!!! I love this movie!!!!

Jayson Phillips

Minor trivia tidbit: The flaming tuba guy(David Silverman) is actually a key animator/director/producer from The Simpsons, and has been part of that show since the beginning. That's actually his tuba(sousaphone) and he plays it regularly in bands. I assume he's some sort of acquaintance of Michael Giacchino, who thought the visual would look cool, especially in B&W.

Michael Kemmet

Also, when they show the vampire head on the wall, Jack mentions having fought him a few times.

matthew h

Hi Natalie. Happy you liked Werewolf by Night ,l fully enjoyed it and have watched it twiceso far..Brought back memories of the old Wolfman movies from the 1940's by Universal. I think you might like them . Carry on the work.

Robert Barnard

Harriet Sansom Harris was a nice surprise. She was perfect for this. She was one of the adult clones in the episode Eve on the X-Files and Bebe on Frasier.

matthew h

What I'm impressed with is Michael Giacchino directing and composing the score. I think this is maybe his directorial debut.

Ben Wheeler

Really liked the ending there. I'm surprised there isn't more outtakes/bloopers of your watch thrus. 😂

Brian

Spooky Saturday! Yay!

Essero Eson

never realized about the spins around part. good catch. i thought it was just for some campy flair.

Andy

They did not want jack looking like a full-werewolf because the original wolf-man from the old black and white universal monsters looked more man than wolf and Jack is supposed to be a call back to that.

Lucifer Moon

Marvel has already announced a Midnight Sons movie so that will almost certainly bring back these characters. Sorry I did not know if this counts as spoilers given that it was already widely announced by Marvel.

Lucifer Moon

This was a fun surprise! Also, at least now we know you aren't secretly some evil mad genius, though maybe you just need practice like Dr. Horrible. (Ooh, that might be a fun watchalong, Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog.)

Troy B.

Knew it'd be werewolf by night

ButtyOh

Happy Saturday, Natalie! 😊 I've been looking forward to your reaction for this one. Definitely looking forward to your this later this evening. Have a great day & rest of the weekend! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Randee Carreno

The Werewolf here looks more "normal" since the director wanted to do it with practical effects. Both the Werewolf and Ted (Man Thing) required no CGI. It was all done with traditional make up and really advanced puppeteering. It works really well with the old Universal Monsters aura this episode had.

Bou _

Yay! We guessed right!

Mastervodo

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

NawDood

Yessss! So excited! This special was such a wonderful surprise to me!

Kristine Friling

Surprise indeed. thanks Nat!

Daniel Luna

I was pretty disappointed by Phase 4, but I really loved WEREWOLF BY NIGHT!

Philip Davetas

Oh cool, I was probably going to watch this tonight anyway, now I get to watch with Nat.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

I was hoping you'd watch this! I enjoyed the crap out of this show,. It's just so well done and a fantastic homage to the classic horror movies. I'd be down for more like this from Marvel.

Tony Sanson

Nice. I throughly enjoyed werewolf by night.

jamie jones

Spooky? No.

Thomas Yanez

* michael_scott_happysurprise.gif * Also, Fun Fact: they give subtle hints about Jack. He mentioned he could smell the blood on the Scotsman's hands. In the crypt he spins around before sitting down. And finally the ear scratch. All clever nods!

Boomcity

I knew it! Werewolf by Night!

Andy

Happy Saturday Nat at the Movies. ha ha what a really fun intro 😄 Thanks for giving us this fantastic weekend treat. I love the old Universal Monster movies, and this was such a great and fun homage to them. Directed and scored by composer Michael Giacchino, who also wrote your favourite Marvel title card music, and I love how he re-orchestrated it into a horror version. Loved your reaction Nat. It was a lot of fun. Would really love to see you watch some of the old Universal horrors to see what you make of them. Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein provide a lot of scenes that Young Frankenstein spoofed, and it would be fun to see you spot all the references. You're almost there with your sinister Dr. Natalie laugh 😂 Thanks for a brilliant video today Nat, and as always, thanks for all your great work this week. Looking forward to the livestream tonight 💛
