Comments

The twister scene really lets down the rest of the intro hour.

Chris Jarrett

I just subbed and realized there was no BvS. Now I'm sad, but I loved this reaction. I really appreciate you watching along because a lot of people don't, and it's annoying. Anyway, thank you.

Boaty Zooka

Happy Superman Day! Please watch the Donner Superman movie! It’s so good!! 😭😭😭😭

My

waiting you for batman v superman hihi

Adeeva Anindya

I know this comment is really old but fun fact simple changes like a change in hairstyle and the addition of glasses in a person that you are not intimately familiar with makes it on average like 90% more difficult to recognize said person. (if I remember the study correctly) that being said anyone who knows Clark Kent fairly well would likely recognize him and that is to say nothing about facial recognition software. The idea of that in the comics is that no one is willing to believe superman lives a life just like everyone else or whatever.

Ventena

That has always been a tropes whole glasses and change in hairstyle makes him a completely different person lmao. In the comics at some point if I'm not mistaken, they tried to make it that the glasses were alien tech that made him look different to eveyone, but that was quickly dropped and they just said "meh fuck it, he's just unrecognizable without the glasses" lol. Rewatching this movie, always shows the inconsistencies in the story. It has waaay too many plot holes. But overall, I still love Henry Cavill as Superman and really wish he would've gotten another chance to bring the character to life in a sequel and not as an overblown cameo.

Noctis

Clarks father sent Clark back with his mother from the tornado because he knew that Clark was capable of keeping her safe no matter what, even in the face of a tornado. He chose to protect his wife instead of himself. Once he was injured it became a situation of sacrificing himself to protect Clark’s secret.

thescourge

Hi Natalie! So Watching your reaction recognizing other actors showing up in this movie i got the sense that maybe you didn't recognize the one who plays Clark's Earth father. Do you not know Kevin Costner? Cause I would be very surprised if that's the case and you've never seen a movie with him, he's in so many great movies!

Unsecret Identity

If you enjoy Henry Cavill, you should watch The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Witcher series!

James Hahn

As always, highly recommend the "Everything Great About" series on youtube; besides being some nice positivity, they tend to clear up any confusion over certain aspects of the movie

Henri

Easily a masterpiece

Hamilton Hernandez

in my opinion i would just drop any expectations of suicide squad in regard to it being good or bad. it's an enjoyably meh movie but not the last air bender bad. if you are looking for more punishment style bad movies watch the theatrical cut of justice league.

Bathu

I agree 100%

Kristine Friling

I really hope Nat gives the 78 Superman a try. Christopher Reeve defined the role for a generation. A lot less broody, more fun, but also with a ton of heart. Superman 2 is even better, with a fantastic performance of Zod. I don’t hate Man of Steel at all, but the older films are really worth a watch.

Byron

I think the Zack Snyder movies are worth a watch. Man of Steel, Batman VS Superman, Suicide Squad (optional but could be an interesting watch,) Wonder Woman, Zack Snyder's Justice League. Then the rest of the movies can kind of be watched in any order. Except I would recommend Birds of Prey before The Suicide Squid.

XadeChronos

The age old question, why doesnt anyone recognize that clark is superman? well its because clark wears glasses, how can he be superman? Definitely watch the trilogy; Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman, and The Justice League Snyder Cut.

J B

James Gunn seriously screwed him over. Poor Henry quit The Witcher to return only for things to fall through.

Dooly

ironically a week after she watches Man of Steel, Henry Cavil gets canned

Kozmo

Ummm, you should absolutely watch Birds of Prey & the first WW!!!! They are the most fun in the DCEU. Ok, Shazam too.

Nathan

I hope she watches BvS before WW, then caps it with snyder cut Justice League. Boom DCU done! If she's somehow still up for more at that point the order should continue: Aquaman, Shazam! and then the two SS movies back to back. Skip WW2, Birds of Prey, and Black Adam.

Albiezushi

I'm so glad I streamed that god-awful mess. I liked the first WW a lot but I rarely go to the theater and something told me to hold off on that one.

Richard Maurer

BvS isn’t a masterpiece but it is far from the worst the DCEU has to offer.

Dooly

I do hope you watch BvS as well. It is indeed a flawed film but not nearly as terrible as people make it out to be.

Dooly

Almost all of these Reconditions are horrible in these comments. most DC films aren't the best Especially Batman V Superman. Shazam and James Guns Suicide Squad movie are really the best ones to watch.

Lobstar

Oh.. and did you catch Vanessa (Dare Devil) was Kal-El's real mom?

Jimathai

I agree with most posters on here. The DCU is just not very good, despite the stellar casts and amazing artwork. I will say this though. DC's animated movies are awesome. You should consider watching those if you want to explore this universe. Like everyone else, the only one I thought was good was Wonder Woman (first one)... but even that was only as good as mid tier MCU. BvS had potential and started off pretty great... but the ending was horrible. unfortunately I feel the same way about the second Suicide Squad. But yeah pretty much all the animated movies are great... my favorite is Flash Point.

Jimathai

I would definitely recommend finishing the trilogy that starts with Man of Steel, is followed by Batman V Superman (but make sure it’s the ultimate edition/director’s cut, as the theatrical version is kind of messy), and concludes with Justice League (again, make sure it’s the director’s cut, as the theatrical version was awful). As for the rest of the DC universe films, they’re pretty hit or miss. The first Wonder Woman was good, and the second Suicide Squad (technically a reboot) was entertaining. But the rest of the films, like Aquaman, the first Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman 1984, etc. were all pretty bad.

PureGonzo

Gilgamesh is arguably the first superhero

Christopher Robles

Here's another vote on the disappointment known as the second wonder woman flick. Walked out of the theater yelling "Alistaaair" mocking that moment of the movie, and across the parking lot a disgruntled couple yelled back "DADDY!" . You know who just left watching wonder woman 1984 when the entire parking lot burst in to laughter >.<

CuddleBuddee

Heck yes.

CuddleBuddee

Hahaha….. I understood what you meant.

Danny Miller

Wow. It's like we're the same person. (Which is just to say, I agree with all of your points. I'm sorry if I made it creepy.)

Michael Butler

Great reaction, but yeah I too would recommend 1978 Superman as it uses superhero tropes Superman created even more. But, I will say the story is cleaner and has a better follow through that doesn't rely on conveniences. Watching It could act like a nice comparison as to what writers and directors prefer to hang on to.

Ernesto

Please watch Superman The Movie from 1978 with Christopher Reeve!!

Delta

Please for the love of everything if you watch the Justice League only watch the Snyder version

Benjamin

Yeah Zod was purposefully staying in the city. Superman tried to get him out a few times you can tell, but Zod wasn't having it. He knew keeping him in the city would distract him. In the end, it was his undoing though because Superman had no choice but to kill him to stop the destruction and loss of life. That's another thing some people complain about, but I see it as he had no choice at that point. That painful scream afterwards showed just how much he didn't want to kill him. It goes beyond simply that "Superman doesn't kill." Zod at this point is the last Kryptonian known to still be alive since the rest were killed or sent to the Phantom Zone. The last of Kal-El's people. That's a big part of that scream in my opinion.

Marty McGee

The DCEU was way behind the MCU, and you can definitely tell that it was hurried or without much of a general direction like the MCU. The first Wonder Woman movie is pretty good, but the second one is pretty much crap. Shazam was good. Batman v Superman sucks. Both versions of Justice League aren’t good, but the Snyder Cut is the better version, although it’s over 4 hours long. Aquaman would’ve been better if it had been shorter.

Danny Miller

I did love the one with the "The" in front of it. And Peacemaker. It gives me hope with Gunn in co-charge of things. And now I'm going to get drunk and re-watch the first Suicide Squad movie. I wonder if Wil Smith will slap anyone.

Michael Butler

I have enjoyed your reaction Nat. Yes the tornado death annoyed all of us. Please watch Wonder Woman, Batman V Superman and Justice league. (only watch Snyder cut if you are ready for 4 f'ing hours otherwise watch the theatrical release) You don't need to watch Smallville. One thing to remember about Warner Brothers is they don't think much of teir audience. Be well. P.S. Superman's dad normally dies of a heart attack. You could watch the first Superman from 1978 just to compare.

Garrick Smalley

I concur with all of this.

Garrick Smalley

No I like Aquaman, but I was just having fun with the wordplay. I think she should watch all of them, even WW84. Just do the whole universe. It's fun!

Jason Dolan

Come on. Aquaman was a lot of fun - and very colorful And Shazam! was also funny as hell.

Ulrich Unterbrunner

No I'm saying he had no choice, just like soldiers have no choice. To push him out into the sky he would have had change the position of his attack, giving Zod a chance to attack him. All the things people say superheros should have done differently during a brawl take time to think about, and time to think is exactly what you don't have in a brawl. If Superman stopped to think about the consequences of every attack he made Zod would have won easily, and then would have went on to kill many more. As far the final scene of the fight, I agree that was somewhat poorly handled but it resolved the only way it could, with Zod's death.

Richard Maurer

Did she not notice that the soundtrack was from Hans Zimmer?

YannickWega

Oh! She's singing a 3 Doors Down song at the beginning. She is a woman of culture.

Dennis Macko

As a huge fan of film music, I love it when you mention the score in your reactions Nat. You pointed out that the music in the opening scenes where Kal El was being launched from Krypton was reminiscent of the Prince of Egypt. Your ear for music is second to none Nat 😊 Both this movie and Prince of Egypt were scored by Hans Zimmer, and the scenes are definitely similar with Kal El and Moses being sent out of harm's way to start a new life. I've always been captivated by the Moses story. I would really love to see your reaction to Prince of Egypt someday, but I understand with all the music, it's a difficult edit for YT. There's also Ridley Scott's telling of the story Exodus: Gods and Men, which is an epic movie too. Really enjoyed your reaction for Man of Steel. Thanks Nat 💛

Darryl Low

Jesus was god's gift to women? 😅

Opti_Frog

Your answer seems to admit that Superman, in fact, let citizens of Metropolis die. He willingly puts people at risk, PUSHING Zod down into the station when he could have pushed him out of the city. This Superman does not care. Unless it's for a contrived reason to kill Zod. And then he screams from the depth of his soul because Superman doesn't kill. A fact that is NEVER ESTABLISHED IN THE MOVIE and all the evidence points to that this Supes doesn't CARE if he kills innocent bystanders. This isn't really a Superman problem, but a scriptwriting problem. Superman Returns got so much flak for lacking action that MoS overcompensated to the detriment of the character.

Opti_Frog

Personally i think best way to watch DC is in release order and not worry about the 'universe building' OG keaton and reeves would be a great intro. Regardless i love this movie so very happy you reacted and hope you get to catch the others in the future at somepoint

Nic Benham

Some great comments and suggestions here, unbiased and concise. But my god peoples emotions and opinions run riot with the DC movies 😂

JayyDTR

this film has always existed in a weird place in my head being both a perfect superman film in some points before swinging wildly into awful scripting and plot beats, this would plague many DC movies from this point forward

Nathaniel Castle

I could be new to this, but I’m not about to let this intro slide! Since when did you get a voice like that. That was fire🔥🔥

Dominic Delacruz

Nat, if no one's warned you already, DON'T approach the DCEU movies expecting them to be super connected to each other like the Marvel MCU is. Yes, there's some crossover, but each DCEU hero's own movie(s) treat the characters more-or-less standalone; there's also some weird time jumps/flashbacks so it's harder to get a sense of the timeline than in the MCU (not that the MCU doesn't also have these flaws sometimes, I just think they're more pronounced in the DCEU). For example, Harley Quinn is in 3 movies but they all basically exist independently of each other.

TreehouseOfJorge 4 - Resurrection

Not sure anyone's going to read this at the bottom of such a long thread, but here goes: 1. I've always been Team The-Glasses-Are-Silly until the first time someone showed me a picture of Zoey Deschannel (spelling?) without her trademark bangs and glasses. Then I got it. 2. I feel like Nat and I had the same reaction to Pa Kent's death scene. It's just forced melodrama and comes off as cheesy and stupid. (His death has been handled much better in other media.) 3. Yes, Smallville is a show about Young Clark Kent (before he comes Superman). 4. I think Nat's list of DCEU movies to watch is pretty good. I would only suggest two additions: Shazam - I think Nat would enjoy this one because it's more lighthearted. Birds of Prey - I like it and know a lot of other people don't, but I suggest it mainly because the number of times Nat would yell "Yeah B*tch!" would set a new record!

TreehouseOfJorge 4 - Resurrection

I came to the comments to literally say every single thing that you just did hahah :)

PureGonzo

Maybe not for anyone but for me this movie really does give me a sense of hope. When i hear that Piano start playing in the scenes with him and his mom and even at the end it makes me shed a tear but also gives me a sense of hope i just have a strong connection with this movie emotionally and i really enjoy it

FateMalone

the super man puts glasses on and become unrecognisable has always been a bit ridiculous haha, but its pretty core thing. i love this movie tbh, it has issues but it has heart, the music especially is brilliant. the script obviously has issues but the action i think is amazing, you really feel like these are basically gods fighting and it feels so impactful, as for the other movies, if you watch batman v superman watch the extended cut, the original felt rushed and disjointed, its still not an amazing movie but its much better than the cinematic version. Wonder Woman is a MUST, the first suicide squad is bad but not ATLA bad, Justice league is fantastic IF you watch the Snyder cut, the original release was terrible imo, this cut is much better, still has a lot of issues especially in pacing (being 4 hours) but its well worth it, Aquaman is another must, its genuinely a surprise, i never thought i would enjoy that character but i really did, the art especially in that movie is fantastic, and the second suicide squad is a good time for sure

Tesh

The first Wonder Woman is good, the rest of DC is... meh.

Jason Hoppenworth

I said on another comment thread that I think you should watch all the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) movies and form your own opinions on each one, instead of listening to everyone here battling over what's good and what's not. And I stand by that. Frankly, this franchise has a lot of division within it. That said, if you aren't going to watch them all, I could make some suggestions. Arguably, the spine of this universe is the story that Zack Snyder started. Which forms a little trilogy with: Man of Steel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition Zack Snyder's Justice League The Ultimate Edition is the ONLY version of BvS that should be watched. That doesn't mean I think it's the best film, but the theatrical cut removed a whole 30 minutes of it that I think seriously damaged the film. With Justice League, although the theatrical cut is canon and the Snyder Cut isn't, A) theatrical is a worse film, and B) if you aren't planning on watching the whole DCEU and exploring all that is canon, you might as well stick with the better version. Even if it is 4 hours long. (Don't worry, it's broken up into chapters with title cards.) Some other great entries in the DCEU that I think are really worth it: Wonder Woman Aquaman Shazam! The Suicide Squad (2021) Peacemaker TV Series (A direct follow-up to The Suicide Squad 2021. Watch that before you watch this.) I'll also add that these films might be worth a look, even if they weren't everyone's cup of tea: Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (It wasn't for me, but it's not poorly made, and it has its fans.) Wonder Woman 1984 (I liked this film, flaws and all. In spite of how many people tell me it's awful. I thought it was misunderstood, and still think there's a lot of good in it. But your mileage may vary.) Black Adam (I only mention this because the main character is historically a chief villain of Shazam, and that movie was awesome. This is generally enjoyable, but very flawed.)

Nicholas Sulikowski

Its always been the trope that glasses is the only thing hiding his identity. Also you'd probably like Brightburn, it's basically the same exact story of Superman, except he feels so out of place he becomes a powered child psychopath.

Arts of TM

I think you are missing the joke - the good refers to the movies about the good guys and the bad refers to movies about the bad guys.

Jason Dolan

The extended is great! Also she has to.

Christopher Henderson

The Snyder cut was absolutely an improvement over the theatrical cut but that is not really saying much. They're both bad movies. The overuse of slow-mo is almost a joke at this point. It feels like Snyder is trolling us.

Myles Away

suicide squad (without the the) could be fun for drinking style reaction. i don't even think it's that bad of a movie. So it might not even be that exhausting ;) emphasis on might

Gwath Eledh

Indeed, it gives a more accurate origin and accurate portrayal of his dual identity.

Daniel Drew

What you should watch next is the original Superman with Christopher Reeves.

David Bourgeois

For the love of god dont do bvs. Its absolutely terrible.

jamie jones

Awesome! Just got home from work, got my drink, and my snack and i'm loading up this movie! ready to react with ya! Perfect for winding down, and Aldous my Eskimo Spitz is right next to me. BTW - the Eskimo Spitz is a close cousin to your little ones. #FunFact :)

More Batteries

I hope she powers thru bvsue WW and ZSJL for the full effect and then she can poll us for the rest

Jason Dolan

I would definetly recommend watching the followup movie Batman vs Superman, wonder woman is also a great one, and if you are considering watching Justice League I would recommend the Snyder Cut as it is the version that the director wanted to release, but unfortunately his daughter died mid production and he had to step down. Then Joss Whedon stepped in, scrapped like 90% of what was already filmed, did a bunch of reshoots and basically ruined the movie when it was released. It didnt fit the dark tone of the DC Universe and was overall poorly written. The First Suicide Squad movie you can gladly skip, but the more recent DC movies are from what I heard of pretty solid

Dominik

The Suicide Squad is one of the best DC movies in years. STFU

Roland The Gunslinger

I see this all the time from people who who've never been in an actual fight. Do you think soldiers who are being shot at stop to check if civilians are around before taking cover and firing back? And as for moving the fight somewhere else, why would the villain let him? Especially if he knew the hero was trying to protect civilians, which would be a distraction, which would be to the villain's advantage. If Superman knocked Zod out of the city, Zod would simply fly right back where the advantage would be his.

Richard Maurer

I think wonder woman and aquaman are highly regarded for the dc movies. I think a dc poll for what movie next would be good way to sort it out

PrayTellCaesar

If super powered individuals existed the death of civilians would be inevitable. This isn't however a good enough reason for heroes not to fight as the consequences of not engaging are always worse, at least in the scenarios set by the creators of superhero content. Also, I don't know if you've been in a actual street fight, but I have and I can tell you that worrying about the damage you're creating around you isn't a thing, not if you hope to win. Now magnify that to Superman's/Zod's level of power and whole cities being leveled, with the resulting casualties, is a more likely scenarios than just the few buildings shown in MoS. So if anything thing this fight scene underplays the devastation. The most realistic fight scene I've seen in a superhero comic was in Miracle Man #15 (known as Marvel Man outside the US), where two Superman-level combatants level much of London, and in which one panel in the fight scene shows the hero throwing a car at the villian - with a mother and two children inside. The hero, narrating the fight says "My apologists will tell you I didn't know that family was in the car - the truth is I didn't have time to care". If this sounds harsh, then let me give it context - the villain had already slaughtered hundreds of Londoners to get the heroes attention and would have continued to do so until he ran out if the hero hadn't engaged him.

Richard Maurer

That is a solid point.

Mastervodo

Henry Cavill is God's Gift to Women?

Mastervodo

Superman's "crib" is kept in a stable?

Opti_Frog

One example: Simply jumping over an explosive truck trailer to let it crash into the building behind him, demolishing it, instead of easily stopping it. Best example: Superman not taking the fight away from a large metropolitan area to avoid massive collateral damage.

Opti_Frog

Brian, they made the story choice to have Superman kill in defense of a family. I bring up simple internal logical inconsistencies with this very big swing on their part. And you dismiss it as "minutia." In another thread (because you're all about defending this film) you wrote: "I do thoroughly enjoy these "it isn't a good movie, it just isn't" remarks, with zero explanation regarding why." This would be why I don't engage with Snyder-Bros. They dismiss legit criticism as minutia.

Michael Butler

Funny that you should ask what if he landed somewhere else. There's actually multiple alternate realities like that in the comics and even some in animated movies. My favorite being of course the good ol' Soviet Superman haha !

Philippe Dessaints

"The same names come up every time. :)" That you wrote this without irony made me laugh.

Michael Butler

Girl, dont let people opinions drive yours. Watch the movies and decided yourself if their are bad movies. I assure you that most of the DC movies said are bad movies, they are not. Just gonna say that no DC movie are as bad as The Last Airbender.

Roland The Gunslinger

Poor action in a superhero movie does not make it interesting. Having a "hero" that cares as little about not killing civilians as the villain does not make for a compelling watch. Having the climax be the hero in emotional turmoil over having to killing the villain to save 6 humans when that same hero just a few minutes before were a part of killing many more humans by throwing the villain into occupied building and so on makes the whole hero journey feel pointless

Danishprince

Enjoyed the reaction! While it does have its problems it’s till a very well made film. After this you should watch Batman vs Superman before getting watching Wonder Women. It’s the sequel to Man of Steel and it may confuse you with Wonder Woman if you skip it. Also make sure you watch the Ultimate Cut of BvS. Do NOT watch the theatrical release as it leaves out so much plot details and it makes the overall film very incoherent. I will say with the first Suicide Squad, it is a bad film but it’s still an entertaining fun film and somewhat enjoyable. I’d say give it a shot. I’ll also add that you should watch the longer cut of the film too. After that then you should watch Wonder Woman, Zack Snyders Justice League, Aquaman, Shazam, The Suicide Squad. I will say the whole secret identity between the two being that Clark wears glasses while it may seem silly, it does work. There’s been times where I’ve known someone who wears glasses for a long time and seeing them without them does seem like a whole different person. Same with someone who has a full beard and then the fully shave it all off. It’s weird.

NFXx

Nat, I'll explain it real slow, Clark Kent wears GLASSSSSES and Superman DOES NOOOOT. They look 100% different and it's a 100% perfect disguise. The fact that they have identical height, build, skin color, hair color, eye color, hair type, and voice are IRRELEVANT. How dare you. /s On a serious note, yeah, at least Christopher Reeve slumped his shoulders and used a more nasally voice while playing Clark Kent. IMO Suicide Squad would be great for a DC Drinking Game Bad Movie night, if you're inclined.

Keith Jacobsen

How exactly did he "let" the citizens of Metropolis die?

Richard Maurer

You should read the silver age comics, they would basically just give him new powers to get him out of bad situations they created for him.

Richard Maurer

I would add Shazam to that list.

Richard Maurer

Yes, who wants to see action in a superhero movie? Seriously, while not a huge fan of this movie I've always thought the fight with Zod at the end is one of the best ever superhero fights. And while I'm talking about this fight I've always hated the "superheros are bad because they cause so much damage" argument which this fight gets tagged with a lot. Basically it will always be the villain who picks the battleground, leaving the hero with 3 bad options - fight, ask the villian to move the fight somewhere else, or run away. The last to 2 either won't work or make things worse, leaving fighting as the only good option.

Richard Maurer

the whole DC/Marvel rivalry thing is a bore. It was boring in comics fandom where it started and is even more boring in the movies, The constant need by DC fans to tell you which Marvel properties are worse than DC is a joke - your opinion doesn't make it a fact. And as far DC goes, blaming the quality of their movies on anything other than WB is mostly just bullshit. The truth is that WB were the ones getting overly involved and making bad decisions, the worst of which was trying copy the MCU, instead of finding someone like Fiege who actually knows and enjoys comics to oversee their DC movie universe.

Richard Maurer

Yeah, I'm in the middle on Suicide Squad - Not nearly as bad as some people say, not nearly as good as others say. Mediocre is the word I'd go with.

Richard Maurer

This thread made me laugh.

Richard Maurer

In the beginning he could LEAP over Tall Buildings in a single bound! And if the Flash can't beat him in a foot race - what the hell are we even doing?

—thoughtstorms—Keith—

I liked the Snyder Cut better story-wise, and Steppenwolf and Cyborg looked so much better. But, man oh man there were some long drawn out scenes, slow-motion that went on for days, and super extraneous material that absolutely didn't need to be there. Still would watch it over Josstice League every day.

Marty McGee

HBOMax is very much at a different speed in different countries. I've noticed that watching along with European reactors. I had no problem with the speed since I'm in the US, but her reaction did not seem to be in sync with her blurred video. When I synced perfectly with her video, her reactions were a few seconds ahead of the movie. So I had to keep my video a few seconds behind hers. Once I did that though I never had to re-sync.

Marty McGee

I definitely agree that you should watch Wonder Woman but I don’t really care about Superman v Batman or justice league, etc. but I do highly recommend Shazam which is a stand alone within the DCEU

Lisa Tosti

I do like Man of Steel even though it has its issues. There's enough destruction in it to rival a Michael Bay film. The glasses have always been a trope and are so iconic to Clark Kent that they deserve a chuckle but you just go with it. Michael Shannon really steals the show though. Such a good villain performance. The only thing i didn't really like was the portrayal of Johnathan Kent. His death literally was pointless in this rather than being one of the defining moments of Clark's life and journey towards becoming the hero. Great reaction Nat! As far as the rest of the DCEU, only 2 films are really awful: Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman 1984. The rest are very watchable and even really great at times. Batman V Superman the Ultimate Edition is the way to go. Much more coherent than the theatrical release. It also picks right up from Man of Steel. Snyder's Justice League is also the much better choice even if it is 4 hours long. Wonder Woman is a must and Aquaman is just a fun ride.

Marty McGee

If/when you watch Batman v Superman (the direct sequel to this, and I would recommend before Wonder Woman, be sure to watch the Ultimate Edition, it's a better and more complete movie than the theatrical cut. And Zack Snyder's Justice League instead of the theatrical.

Carter Nelson

If this is your first time watching a Superman story then this is not the movie you should have started with. Also don’t listen to other people’s opinions about movies before you watch them. You’re just going to ruin things for yourself.

Seth Workman

Well he was much taller than Sam. ;)

Michael G. Munz

The saddest seven words in Natalie's reaction: "All you can eat pancakes is over!" 😭

Michael G. Munz

I really liked Man of Steel, but god did I hate the tornado scene. I'm curious if Chris Nolan wrote that scene or David Goyer or Zack Snyder. Who get's the blame for that scene? Anyway I hope you watch Batman V Superman if you want to see how Superman's story plays out.

Frankie H

Lol my day started off with Ashleigh Burton’s Superman and now watching your Man of Steel reaction Nat along with the movie on my tv. Talk about a Feel Good Friday! Can’t wait for your reaction to Batman v Superman!

Mark Daza

I like the idea of just the pilot episodes or first season or something - Smallville is 10 seasons (217 episodes) so that's a huge undertaking.

Tony

There have been jokes about the glasses for years. You just have to let it go. An alien with super strength and can fly, the disguise is the last thing you need to suspend disbelief.

Christopher Gray

Mentioning he’s 33 years old in multiple instances?

Ben Wheeler

As far as recognizing Clark at the Daily Planet goes, it took like half a Stranger Things season before Nat recognized Sean Astin, so..

Ben Wheeler

The Phantom has no super powers at all. He's just a very durable man that believed in justice and fought for it. He was certainly a hero but he wasn't a superhero.

Logan Kerlee

They may be silly but they're so genuinely Clark Kent! I love that he wore them in this.

Logan Kerlee

I mean theres a slew of 90s DC that's pretty bad that stretches in the early aughts like The Phantom The Shadow Steel Batman Forever Batman & Robin The Avengers (98) Fantastic Four Daredevil Catwoman Spawn The Punisher (Dolph and Jane) You could never run out of bad comic book movies from that era

Jason Dolan

Floating out into space above the earth in a crucifix pose?

Opti_Frog

There are number of old really long shows I've seen a lot of suggestions for. I'd be kind of interested if Nat did a series of looking at just the pilots for a number of these kind of shows

Red Son is a FANTASTIC WATCH!! It's what I recommend to people who figure that Supes is just lame and bland. I'd recommend that to Natalie but I don't know if she'd dig on it without a deeper background into the DC universe. I'd like to steer her away from films that may taint her presentation of it all. That's something that should be watched after she's seen the original film and perhaps some of Smallville.

Logan Kerlee

I never see it mentioned but just for laughs you should include the 1996 "the Phantom"

Endling_king

I'm on the other side of the fence. I STRONGLY prefer the original film and would've loved for her to have watched that first. Not only because I feel that it's the superior movie but because this was her introduction to DC films as a whole aside from Batman.

Logan Kerlee

I know id keep my frail human "easily breakable" mouth shut!

Endling_king

Nah! I commented the same up above! I'm totally down for her to react to Smallville! :D

Logan Kerlee

that would be awesome!

Endling_king

The best thing about Suicide Squad, let's be honest, is Margot Robie. But really though, the biggest issue with the film is that the bad guy is just downright goofy.

REDR58

I may be the only one who wants it, but a Smallville react series would be too cool

Ginbug

Man of Steel has dreadfully dull color grading though. It's all washed out/overexposed and that gets old very fast.

REDR58

You're doing DC? I hope you'll do Wonder Woman. It was so freaking good.

Jenny Chalek

Ooooh Snyder Cut definitely! I can take or leave Josstice.

Jenny Chalek

can you be more on the nose having the stained glass window of Jesus behind Clark in the church scene?

Ben Wheeler

+ Superman Returns 😊

Opti_Frog

I do thoroughly enjoy these "shallow and transparent criticisms" remarks, with zero explanation regarding what they were.

Opti_Frog

It would be cool to watch both versions of the Justice League. Which first though? Snyder cut first and then Josstice League I'd say.

Chris H

It's a shame Snyder more or less inverted everything Watchmen was about with his movie.

Opti_Frog

Rut-roh!

sarCC

Pa Kent: You should let people die and I'll kill myself to win an argument. Superman: Look at how Jesus i am! In the end, Superman learned to let the citizens of Metropolis die en masse.

Opti_Frog

man wrote a novel

Tony

You could argue that The Phantom isn't a superhero, though.

Opti_Frog

Oh a nice Friday surprise! Thank you Nat!!

Com1xguy

Do people really consider him that though I always thought everyone points to superman as the first superhero in the modern sense. Plus no one talks about the shadow especially the movie with billy Zane lol

Night King01

Wow, this was so much fun. We know you're not well versed in everything, but this might have been the first time I've seen someone watch Superman and knowing next to nothing about it. Kryptonite via a song, and the stuff doesn't even feature in this one, hahaha (the atmosphere changes are a nod to it tho). On that note, The Kents are in most continuities the one set of superhero parents who do survive. Sure, Pa dies here and there, but Dead Parents™ is not as integral to Superman's story as most other heroes; well, the Kents, obviously the birth parents are toast (unless they're not, but that's comics for you). If anything, the strong morals and down-to-Earth realness of Kansas farmers are his main tie to humanity. And you were right on the money with his incredible luck landing on a farm in Kansas - one of the better known What-If-type of stories in the comics imagines Kal El landing in Soviet Russia. It's called Red Son, I think there is an animated movie about it but I've not seen it. I've not watched Man of Steel in a few years, but I always liked it, and having seen it again just now, in very late 2022, after every other superhero movie out there... it's still one of my favourite SUPERHERO movies because it gets the SUPER part right. 12 years of Marvel and as much as I adore the Infinity Saga, the Hulk hits like wet sand in comparison, Thor gets maybe 1 good shot per movie, and Captain Marvel is too much space energy in her big moments. THIS was a MAN (and a WOMAN in the side-villain, I'm pointing out the humanoid shape) being super fast, defying gravity by sheer force of will, and dooming entire cities by sneezing in the wrong direction. Superman in the comics and animated shows has a great line about living in a world made of cardboard. He has to be incredibly careful all the time. He restrains himself all the time no matter what he fights, because were he to let loose ... basically, this movie would happen. The incredibly insane destruction of this movie is the consequence of a Superman who hasn't learned this lesson yet, and a Zod who knows it. I'm not cheering into my bag of chips over CG buildings crumbling, I'm feeling 20 years (plus/minus, for me) of Superman stories being paid off by making Superman's mistakes terrifying. Did you know, the Sokovia Accords in the Marvel movies were probably a direct result of Metropolis - and its people! - getting destroyed on screen for half an hour, and all superhero movies suddenly noticing they're doing that a lot? Civil War relatively close after this, super conveniently evacuates an entire German airport before the heroes fling whole planes at each other. Not a coincidence. So yeah. MoS is great. Afterwards it gets rough. Feel free to stick to the theatrical version of Batman v Superman if you want to watch it, the extended cut does nothing to save that utter trainwreck (and I don't usually go around calling media that). Justice League is interesting. The theatrical Joss Whedon cut is fairly run of the mill. If you've seen Avengers and not paid attention, you've seen that JL. The Snyder Cut makes it a VERY different movie - but it is FOUR HOURS long. I'd love for you to see it, but I cannot fathom how you could make a reaction video of it. Someone else mentioned, it does do chapters, so you can cut it somewhere halfway (maybe have someone tell you a good timestamp) but uh yeah. Don't expect much from the regular cut, but brace yourself if you want the cut that's clearly better - I still don't know if it's a *good* movie, but it's almost objectively *better*. Second "The" Suicide Squad is great, it's just in no way required viewing, and I feel has a lot of DC universe callbacks and references that'll just fly over your head, which I hope isn't condescending to say, but you did just spend 30 minutes worrying about the inhabitants of Krypton. Including a pet. I very much recommend Shazam! You'll like that one. You've seen more than enough superhero stuff to appreciate all the fun it pokes at the genre, and I think it's heartwarming in the right places. No idea if it's "required" viewing for Black Adam at all, and otherwise very little continuity with the rest - connected, but not really part of it.

Shen V

" I can easily think of a whole host of Marvel films that are WAY worse than anything that came out of the Snyderverse." I couldn't. Despite not being a fan of Phase Four on the film side (as opposed to TV side). I would put all those movies above anything Snyder made (except maybe Eternals-I was really bored by that one). But! Doesn't matter. Who gives a flip what Marvel is doing. And as to "it isn't a good movie, it just isn't" remarks without follow-up... there are reams of text longer than the many drafts that wrote this monstrosity and many more hours of youtube commentary about how bad the Snyder-movies are than its very long running time. You really think I'm going to waste even more time than I did watching this crap with debating a Snyder-Bro? Dude. You got your victory. They spent 70m to make the Snyder cut you demanded of Justice League. Take your ball and go home.

Michael Butler

Look I'm here to say watch all of the DCEU, but maybe watch it in this order: THE GOOD Man of Steel Batman V Superman Ultimate Edition Wonder Woman Zack Snyder's Justice League That's the Mount Rushmore of good. THE BAD Suicide Squad Birds of Prey The Suicide Squad Peacemaker Season 1 THE UGLY Wonder Woman 1984 Aquaman Shazam! Black Adam Then you'll be ready... A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS Superman The Movie Superman II Batman 89 Batman Returns FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE Shazam 2 The Flash Aquaman 2 Peacemaker 2 And then that is probably the END of the DCEU I also LOVE that Nat is watching this BEFORE Christopher Reeve's Superman so she can watch it without any baggage. Will make for a cool reaction I think. Then she can go back and watch the original Superman and Michaeal Keaton Batman's

Jason Dolan

@Michael Butler - Likely because it's more cinematic and visual for an audience for him to turn his head, but you could easily excuse it as being the 2nd time he's ever used the power. Man, if you're going to get that "into the minutia" about it, how would you ever enjoy any film? lol.... I don't think any film would escape that kind of minute criticism. :)

Brian Jones

@Edgar - Sadly it seems many that are making such comments are the same people that champion anything Marvel regardless of quality. The same names come up every time. :) I always found it funny that people had to "pick sides" regarding comic book universes. Whether it be in comics or film it all seems so ridiculous. I think most people enjoy some of the MCU material, and they also enjoy some of the DCU material. Both universes certainly have their good AND bad films.

Brian Jones

How about the logic of why the hell doesn't Zod simply move his eyeballs to mow down people with his heat vision rather than needing to turn his head?

Michael Butler

oh I dont even have to read the comments to know that the haters are going to be out in full force on this one. yes several of the issues are campy, silly, very "how could you not know" situations, but superman is the comic that basically developed those tropes. and to take out a lot of those key tropes that go back to the very start of the character would ruin the story. but people will hate on it for there own reasons and try and force others to see there point of view.

Endling_king

@Michael Butler - "(Honestly, there was so little there for you to pull your Synder-Bro, bro.)" Ah yes, not antagonistic in the slightest.....lol

Brian Jones

If anyone actually wants to think about the glasses thing, if Superman was recognizable at your job would you just be shouting it out or keeping his secret?

Dustin

oh lord here we go

alejandro

Yeah well I hate pineapple on pizza but I enjoy suicide squad, do I love it? No but I enjoy watching it.

Andrew Polinski

I will say one thing about Man of Steel: it is far more visually dynamic than any Marvel film. When you look at this versus the flat, boring ways that most Marvel films are shot; this looks like art in comparison.

David Sumner

None of that is confirmed yet..... Possible he might reboot it all with a new cast, but even Gunn said the Hollywood Reporter article got a bunch wrong, so only time will tell.

Brian Jones

Agreed.... It showed what would happen if Gods truly cut loose..... And even better on what is basically Clark's/Superman's first day on the job. The criticisms were corny and ridiculous. I remember people claiming "he didn't save anyone", or "Superman never kills!!!"..... Clearly people not paying attention to the film at all and certainly never reading the actual comics. But it was the height of the beginning of the MCU, and many were already on the gravy train of the shared universe and had it stuck in their heads that Marvel had found the one and only way to do things (even the execs at WB/DC). They wanted quippy jokes to abound, and colorful lighthearted heroes. Zack came along and gave them a bit of a think piece about a hero becoming, and it was just bad timing. Either way it's all ancient history now.... Time to see what James Gunn is going to do with it all.

Brian Jones

Yeah, it would be nice if they took him down a peg or two. Like a Captain America that can fly and shoot frickin' laser beams but he's not bulletproof and limitlessly strong.

Joe Blankenship

As much as I love this movie, and I do genuinely love it, the death of Jonathan Kent would have been better handled had they just gone with the comic version. It being a heart attack is so much more tragic and meaningful because it's not something that Clark could save him from even if he tried. It teaches him about the fragility of human life and that he can't save everyone, no matter how powerful he is.

Brian Jones

"Why is she diving into this universe. It's horrible?" lmao.. yes there is a lot wrong with it. Sometimes it's just a bunch style and no substance (or when there are big story/character beats they feel superficial) but it has it's moments. And while I'm quick to shit on a bunch of the movies in this universe, I actually really appreciate it. It had to go through questionable decisions by directors/writers, typical Hollywood executive bs, and all sorts of toxicity from both fans and haters. Just enjoy the ride as much as you can and have fun.

Foxyguava

As do I, and the criticisms that were leveled against it were so shallow and transparent in many cases.

Brian Jones

One thing that does help the old school Superman is that realistically there is no reason to expect Superman to be there disguised as your friend, but it is super reasonable that amongst the billions of people on this planet a bunch look similar if not the same. I like to use the random dude on a NY Subway that looks exactly like Vincent van Gogh from a couple years ago. We think he's obviously not the actual Vincent van Gogh.. Van Gogh was alive a looooonnnggg time ago, right?. It couldn't possibly be him. But little did we know... he was actually Vincent van Gogh (jkjk lol)

Foxyguava

I do thoroughly enjoy these "it isn't a good movie, it just isn't" remarks, with zero explanation regarding why. I can easily think of a whole host of Marvel films that are WAY worse than anything that came out of the Snyderverse. A good 3/4 of phase four alone has films that are absolutely abysmal by comparison (MoM, Thor: Love and Thunder, Eternals, Black Widow....etc....etc....), and certainly lack the creativity, writing, special effects, cinematography, music, and performances that are in the Snyder films. But hey, you do you I guess....lol

Brian Jones

Yes the glasses are silly.

Connor Ellis

Glad you enjoyed the movie Natalie! Zack Snyder is an amazing artist, Literally draws out his entire films before filming. went to art school and everything. Saw an interview with him showing his drawings, incredible. If you are going to watch Batman vs Superman please watch the ultimate edition! And maybe watch it before Wonder Woman! But totally up to you, your show, your life. Glad you’re not taking the people that religiously disapprove of the DC Universe too seriously and making your own decisions. I dare say if you enjoy this film you will evidently enjoy the rest of Snyders work in his trilogy to some degree. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽!!! All the best!

James Gunnar

You need to watch BVS ultimate edition before wonder woman 1

FateMalone

The Superman/Clark Kent disguise works better when Clark is a bit more bumbling and awkward. The Christopher Reeve version works. The Superman and Lois Tyler Hoechlin version also has that distinction and is my personal favorite iteration of the character. I don't love this movie. In fact, I kind of hate it, but I do think Henry Cavill is an absolute treasure and deserves a better story. I understand the desire to make a "relatable" Superman, but this misses the mark for me. Superman is my all time favorite comic character and I've always found the most relatable thing about Clark is his heart. That despite his otherworldlyness and power, his ultimate superpower is his capacity for empathy and his optimism. And as cheesy as it is, the hope that characters stands for. Which is what is missing from the majority of his arc. I can appreciate a darker story, but this just doesn't hit me. That said, I do like Zack Snyder's work for the most part and I find his actual filmaking beautiful. I know some people hate it, but visually, it appeals to my senses and the care he puts in does matter to me. There are films down the line in this universe that I love that you feel his impact in and I'm at least grateful for that.

Kate Herzig

Technically, it's The Phantom.

Tony Cheek

Superman’s actually the first superhero believe it or not. If we’re going by literature and what is a superhero he’s the first

Night King01

nice thing about the Snyder cut for Justice league, is it's broken up into multiple parts which she could make into multiple videos pretty easily

Kristen Louis

IMO, if you know it's going to be bad I say go ahead and watch Suicide Squad for fun. If for no other reason than the bizarre choices they made. But hopefully it wouldn't put you off the sequel which is good. You should also check out Shazam. And if you watch Justice League, I hate to say it, but you should watch the super long Zack Snyder version. The other version isn't even worth watching IMO

Ben Violette

It's kind of a long running joke that Superman with glasses on passes as Clark Kent and nobody notices. You sort of just have to go with it... lol

Steve J

Would love it if we got Watchmen the movie, a primer for what the comic is for Nat, and then the TV show which is brilliant too.

djKENTO

Chris Reese sold it. He slouched like half a foot off his height and his demeanor is so goofy and silly but charming. I wish we got more chances for Henry to try his best at that.

djKENTO

DC time! Happy to see you delving into more DC stuff and DC has some pretty good animations as well Under the Red Hood, Justice League Doom etc. I always felt Christopher reeve did the best portral of when Clark kent wears the glasses its funny but it works no one expects superman to just be this normal unassuming guy when he's like a god to these people with so much power. While evil Zod and his gang were the only real kryptonians left other than Clark now he legit is the last son of Krypton , until they find Supergirl

Narutoanime16

I never minded him killing Zod. Seems only logical. But the neck snap is just so fuckin corny. It's like a bad 90s action movie trope being the ultimate way to kill someone. But what can one expect from dude bro extraordinaire Zack Snyder?

Myles Away

The identity of Superman not being recognized is funny, because Henry Cavill has said he's stood beside posters of himself as Superman and nobody recognized it was him. These movies are very divisive and warner bros really fucked around later on. Zack Snyder is one of those directors most ppl have a strong opinion of and comic book movies are always interesting to get a reaction out of, cause you're taking something you read that's 2D that your imagination does ninety percent of the work and interpreting it in a 3D format according to however the director sees it. Nobody sees it the exact the same way. I think Snyder makes a unique perspective of the genre and I think it sucks his complete vision was never seen. Makes it hard to judge the beginning and middle when the end isn't there.

Jam

xD I'm someone that LOVES pineapple pizza. I'm saying steer clear of Suicide Squad until you've watched everything there is to enjoy in the DC Universe. That movie's just a garbage fire.

Logan Kerlee

You can do that or you can find a page that hosts it online and watch from that.

Logan Kerlee

The Snyder Cut was about 60 hours of pain. Or it felt that way. And I like long movies.

REDR58

BIG YES ON THIS!! The Watchmen is a DARK story but it's fucking amazing.

Logan Kerlee

I'm agreeing with you but not excitedly. I'd be happier if she chose to watch Smallville. Many of the DC shows are fantastic and worth seeing! I'd personally love to see Smallville reacted to first.

Logan Kerlee

Really? Looks like I know who I'm subbing to for a month. xD

Logan Kerlee

Henry Cavill is great as Superman but I'll always prefer Christopher Reeve over him. :)

Logan Kerlee

Vigilante film making 😅

Mannygogou

Nope. Just nope. xD Supes has no psychic abilities. He doesn't have any protection to them either. He just pulls off the average american look so well.

Logan Kerlee

I am STOKED that you're jumping into the DC Universe. I VERY much would've rather had you watch the original Superman movie first, though. That one may be mega dated but it's so damn worth watching. Suicide Squad was TERRIBLE! xD hahaha, it's so bad. Please don't watch that and let that be a basis for anything that you feel about the DC universe. That symbol is just the House of El's symbol. It's significant to his people. Isn't the symbol of all Kryptonians though, just Supes and his family. Lois Lane is a boss! I love the woman. xD She's incredible. "Superman flies faster than a speeding bullet!" YES!! xD I've requested that you watch Smallville! The show is so darn great! I've been wanting a reactor to watch that for aaaaages now! That would put a huge smile on my face. It' s along series though, so I'd understand if you did it in parts and not all at once. The reason why this was so cliche is because it was the ORIGINAL superhero story. Supes started it all. That's why so many other films are similar to this, or have similar stories. Superman isn't just a classic or more well known superhero. He's THE original superhero. The whole glasses bit masking him completely is kinda just DC being DC. People did see his face as Superman and of course they know Clark Kent. They just can't figure that Clark Kent is Superman. You'd have to see the other Superman movies to understand that OR you could dive into Smallville. I may be in the minority but I'd totally be down for you to watch Smallville.

Logan Kerlee

It's an interesting time to start watching DC movies because DC is cancelling some of its projects at this moment. But i suggest you watch wonderwoman, justice league, aquaman, the suicide squad (with john cena) and black adam.

LJ Mickey

Me: Oh yay, Nat watched Man of Steel. Lets watch! *click* Nat: "I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind!" Me: Holy shit this is going to be fun.

Riolkin

Nat watched a lot worse shite than man of steel lol. New star wars? A lot of mcu shows are pure trite too. And its gonna be fine

Edgar

I am a huge DC Comics fan, I read them more than Marvel. (But I love the MCU better because Warner Bros has been messing everything up). I mean I am a Green Lantern fan, so you can probably guess I frustrated I am. But man, I just felt like they tried to be "too different" from the MCU and just go dark. But I do take what I can get. I will enjoy this Superhero Era while I can. Also, I did not like the editing for this movie. All the jarring transitions. It made me think more about editing movies than the actual scene.

Kristine Friling

I dont think James will get rid of Cavil. Highly doubt, he is a symbol of nerd culture and he will not shoot himself in the foot removing him. The rumors are only PARTLY true, as per James himself

devin flynn

The limited comic book series "Superman: Birthright" does a pretty good job of rationalizing the whole "people don't recognize him with glasses on thing". It talks about how he changes the whole way he carries himself. His posture, his demeanor, his tone of voice, etc. And they bring up why he doesn't just wear a mask. Because Superman doesn't wear one, people aren't constantly asking "who is he really?" He's just... Superman. And with this movie in particular, remember that Lois Lane's co-workers didn't really get an up close look at Superman, so it's not terribly unreasonable that they wouldn't put it together when Clark shows up. But thinking that the military can't figure it out, yeah that's a stretch. :) In the more classic versions of Superman's origin story, Jonathan Kent dies of something mundane like a heart attack. And the lesson Clark usually takes from it is that no matter how powerful he is, he can't save everyone. This version of Jonathan's death was a little bit clumsy, but I get what they were going for. It's part of what Zack Snyder did with this version of the story that feels different from earlier versions but quite appropriate for our time. Let's face it, if someone like Superman appeared in our world today, people would freak the eff out. There would be a lot more fear and mistrust than is usually shown in Superman's origin.

Patrick Egan

Damn this timing...Just when DCU is getting rebooted and Henry might not be sticking around again...

Saifu

I prefer the Christopher Reeves' Superman movies. He pulls off the bumbling reporter with glasses better. He makes himself look different rather than just putting glasses on

Kristine Friling

Wow Man of Steel was really good. Maybe i was just being a contrarian in my previous viewing of it. Personally, i don't think Superman should be so moody and "epic" in that snyder-esque style. but if you buy into that premise, it's fantastic imo.

Andy

"Why do you care so much!" Zod is a genetically designed soldier who's mandate to protect krypton is literally in his DNA. Zod has no free will in the matter.

Nathan Swapp

Glad you enjoyed the movie. Nat. Also love that you know Mr. Meloni from his incredible character in Wet Hot American Summer (and not just his more known casting in Law & Order SVU).

Dan Dedrick

I remember how stoked I was for this movie, and how indifferent I felt after watching it x)

larshans

Ah, The Needlessly Messianic Passion of the Space Christ. It had some good qualities, but Superman is the OG OP. They've been overpowering him since the Fleischman cartoons. I'm as glad you caught so many of the inanities as i am unsurprised. https://youtu.be/d4GW_ydWynE

—thoughtstorms—Keith—

Also, not bad for a comic that came out in the 30's I don't think he plays a very good Clark Kent Christopher reeve did the best job of playing both in my opinion. Rem in Ready Player One she gave Parsival the Clark Kent glasses to give him a "Disguise that doesn't change your looks"?

Jayson Phillips

Lois Lane was taken to be a hostage to threaten Kal when needed.

Nathan Swapp

Showed her what ? I'm fine with Natalie watching these movies....

Rime Pendragon

We'll i'm glad you watched it i love DC as well I know not everyone has the same list of good or bad movies that's for you to decide not someone else.

Jayson Phillips

Yeah, i live in denmark. Thats probably why. Well thanks for letting me know : )

KaspeDKK

The one part that I never EVER understood with the criticism of this movie when it came out, was about Superman killing Zod. People didn't like Superman killing people. Zod had already killed what - hundreds of thousands of people already with dropping that gravity engine above a huge city? Every minute they fight, more buildings full of people are dropping down, killing even more people? Of COURSE you kill him! As quickly as you can! And the part I liked most about his movie was how it showed what an un-watered down superhero fight in a big city would be like. Catastrophic devastation.

Mastervodo

You're gonna love the second Suicide Squad film. Funny, quirky and very unpredictable. And you should check out Superman-The Movie. It's dated and cheesy but a LOT of fun. The granddaddy of superhero films.

Kevin Maguire

Well. You sure showed her.

Mastervodo

Watchmen is a fantastic movie, and I'm kinda shocked it's not mentioned more. Alan Moore is a demented genius. Someone should mention he wrote V for Vendetta too.

Mastervodo

Your idea of watching Man of Steel, Wonder Woman #1, and Suicide Squad #2 is the correct viewing for DC movies. Suicide Squad #1 if you really want an intentional "watch a movie so bad it's fun" Though after watching The Suicide Squad you will want to watch the Peacemaker series, its arguably the best live action DC content right now via James Gunn. He has the uncanny ability to take ridiculous characters and make a compelling story. My wife had seen none of the DC movies, so I had her just watch The Suicide Squad then Peacemaker and she loved the show (keeps asking when Season 2 starts, lol)

Steve J

You should watch the original 1978 superman and its sequel superman 2. These were the two movies that kicked off the superhero genre and Christopher Reeve is the definitive Superman. John Williams score is incredible. These are the “real” Superman movies.

Daniel Green

"Oh let the old man get the dog" Dad gave the little girl to Clark. Dad made sure his son protected the more important person.

Nathan Swapp

I do really enjoy the first half of this movie. It takes its time and does a decent enough job evolving the character but the second half just turns into an over the top, messy action flick which just becomes unenjoyable as heck

Danishprince

the biggest issue was having Henry Cavill play young Clark in that shot. He still looks in his late 20s, early 30s, but he’s supposed to be like 16 or 17 there…

djKENTO

haha that IS weird!

Natalie Gold

Also don't be afraid to watch the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman. Gives a lot of story context.

Darchangel

It's really easy to understand: The Dad didn't want Clark to show himself to the world yet. Disagree or not it doesn't really matter. Maybe fear of him getting put into a lab and experimented on (And it doesn't matter if we know now that he'd be fine and just break out. He was a very young man and they didn't know his limits yet.) I think the movie could have timed it better with a more chronological narrative to help the audience understand that at the time of the tornado Clark and his Dad weren't completely aware of his abilities yet. His Dad (human) was protecting his son from the world's reaction to him. Easy peasy.

Jack Burton

Alright, if you do a drinking game type reaction to Suicide squad my only request is that Natalia is the one who participates in it. Can be pubinishment for her lack of work during ad reads on yt

Joshua Kon

wow that's a lot of emotion from the fans. I think someone or a small group could start writing new DC movies, probably in secret. They should not be driven by desire to make money because certain groups will influence and take control over it and derail any honest effort. So they need funding maybe from a billionaire who has had a tragic backstory. Hmm the would-be creators would have to take matters in their own hands, beholden to no one.

Mannygogou

Thanks for the great share, Have not gotten very far but wanted to let you know that the girl on the buss is Lana Lang who is his youthful crush at least in Smallville and the other movies, She was played by kristin kreuk on that show, Interestingly enough Annette O'Toole who played Martha Kent on Smallville also played Lana Lang in some of the original Superman movies.

Baron

God I love this movie

FateMalone

Great point!

Darchangel

Agreed. They already split it up into chapters for her :)

Mike Adams

Definitely watch the Snyder Cut if you watch Justice League I'll say now. It's a long one, but it's SIGNIFICANTLY better than the theatrical version.

Darchangel

I'm only 6:00 in to this reaction, and I'm giddy that Nat isn't already fluent in Superman's Backstory™ - She gets to both discover new things, and predict what's to come, all thanks to her clearly having read Joseph Campbell. 🤓🔥

NotlobParrot

Not a fan of the film but I'll be curious to hear your thoughts if only for some fun but respectful debate.

Adrian

I alternate between Superman (1978) and The Dark Knight being my favorite superhero movie. After that, it'd be Marvel, Marvel, Marvel. So I'm not biased. I love both. I'll enjoy watching Natalie's reaction to this, but it isn't a good movie. I mean, it just isn't. When she posted a 1) start from Man of Steel or 2) Dive into Black Adam, I thought it a Sophie's Choice without purpose.

Michael Butler

I think the DCEU films are very fun watches. Be aure to watch the extended edition of Batman Vs superman. Also when you get to Justice league, be sure to watch the snydercut. it's very long but very good in my opinion. Also cool little fact about the DCEU. the main bad guy in Justice League gave Marvel the Inspiration on how to write Thanos character in Avengers. thats a cool, fun fact. So something to look forward to. You'll understand why once you see it.

LightsCameraJake

In my experience it's generally fixed by either watching Nat at x1.05 speed, or, if you can't do that, pausing your own video every minute for 3 seconds.

Ed Green

The first Suicide Squad is like pineapple on pizza, a lot of people hate it, a lot of people like it and some are right in the middle, so honestly you should watch it to see which side you land on, after all what a reactions for??

Andrew Polinski

It seems to me like you're trying to take the enjoyment out of the original comment for those of us who disdain the DCEU. 'I see you're only watching bad movies now' is funny. 'HOW DARE YOU WATCH THIS MOVIE IT'S SHIT GET BACK TO X' would be rude and obsessive.

Ed Green

Synder-Bro alert. I mean you got your Justice League after 70 million in re-shoots chasing the so-called Synder-Cut. What more do you Bros want?

Michael Butler

(Honestly, there was so little there for you to pull your Synder-Bro, bro.)

Michael Butler

Your comment made me laugh just now. I don't know why but just seeing the frustration in one word 😂😂

LightsCameraJake

I find people that write "you’re so seemingly obsessed" with no evidence of it the kind of people that have their arguments pre-formed. Not everyone likes Zack Synder, dude.

Michael Butler

It’s an amazing movie. I feel sorry for you that you’re unable to enjoy it. But what confuses me is that you’re so seemingly obsessed with trying to take the enjoyment out of things for other people as well. If you don’t like the movie, then don’t watch the reaction. It’s not rocket science.

PureGonzo

Dead wrong on every single point. But you do you.

PureGonzo

This movie starts out pretty good but by the end completely devolves into Snyder trash and it never ends. Each movie in the "Snyderverse" after this, except for Wonder Woman, is worse than the one before it.

Myles Away

Looks like after watching Airbender you’ve decided to just watch bad movies more often?

Bryan Bryan

am i the only one where the her movie goes slower than mine? Her video keeps falling behind mine?

KaspeDKK

Great that Natalie is reacting to the terrible DCEU movies, gives me some time to catch up on other reactions....

Rime Pendragon

Absolutely amazing movie that caught way too much flack at the time, not to mention some absolutely ridiculous criticisms. Masterful score by Zimmer (almost rivals the Williams score from the 70's), great direction and writing, and a solid reintroduction of the Superman character. Shame WB/DC didn't keep their grubby mitts out of it because as we go on you start to REALLY see the studio interference. It starts with BvS and only get's worse from there. I strongly recommend the Ultimate cut for BvS, and the Snyder cut of Justice League is an absolute must. Looking forward to seeing your reaction to this. Post watch: Great reaction as always. Your reaction to his fathers death is understandable and about the only thing in this film I wasn't happy with. In the comics his father dies of a heart attack, which is so much more impactful as it's not something Clark could save him from. Also, as for the glasses as a disguise, that's always been kind of a ridiculous notion that you just sort of have to forgive. :) If you're going to only watch selected entries of the DCEU, I would at the very least do the Snyder trilogy (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman (Ultimate Edition), and Justice League The Snyder Cut). Past that, the first Wonder Woman film is great, the first Aquaman film is pretty good, Shazam isn't too bad, and the second Suicide Squad movie is certainly worth the watch. The first Suicide Squad film isn't quite as bad as people make it out to be. It has a few highlights such as introducing Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and such. Worth checking out even though the plot is pretty rough. Again, it was a victim of the WB/DC studio interference and the director (David Ayer) has been trying for quite some time to get his directors cut of the film into the light of day.

Brian Jones

Omg it's happening! So stoked to go home after work to check out what ya think. One of my favorites. Also consider checking out Zak Snyder watchmen. It's a DC title but it's own thing/ universe timeline

Alvin Baca

Awesome! I've been waiting for this day for many many months! I hope DC is a weekly thing. Or as close to it as you can

Rich

Fucking...................

Diiirk706

So weird you're watching Man of Steel and Ashleigh Burton is watching Superman: The Movie today.

Boomcity

Happy Feature Friday, Natalie! 😊 So glad that you're watching this one. This is one of my favorite DC movies. I really love Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent. Looking forward to this reaction later this evening. Have a great day & weekend! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Randee Carreno

Some theorize that he has some kinda psychic ability to make people unable to recognize him.

Joe Blankenship

You just kind of have to accept that people don’t recognize Clark Kent as Superman when he has his glasses on. It’s how it’s always been with that character and it will never change.

Dante

Hoping everyone a fun, good safe weekend! Looking forward to this reaction! Even if it seems likely the DCEU is being cancelled.

Joshua Kon

Happy Friday Feature Nattie G. Not seen this movie since it's release, so I'm looking forward to watching it again with you 😊
