2024-11-21 00:49:26 +0000 UTC2:02 not really. I don't think that Dr Mann is evil. Like they explain before is it evil whe a lion eatsa gazella? No, because the lions is just trying to survive. Dr. Mann was doing the same thing...trying to survive.

2023-01-17 00:08:02 +0000 UTCThis was one that has been on my list for a very long time, but unfortunately had always been pushed off for something else. I'm so glad I watched this, and this is the first time I've watched something for the first time along with you and that was fun on its own. It helped to not be the only person bawling when they got back on the ship after 23 years. Jesus, that was an amazing ride.

2023-01-16 01:47:32 +0000 UTCSoundtrack is so good in this! I forgot how intense it was for sure. Glad you got to see it in full. I seen the Edge of Tomorrow and Bladerunner 2049 reactions, which were fantastic. You should consider Sicario in the future. It’s directed by Denis Villeneuve and has Emily blunt in it lol

2023-01-15 01:04:58 +0000 UTCThe cinematographer in this movie also worked with Nolan on Memento, an older Nolan film you should definitely watch, I've been a fan of his films since I saw it. His style is so unique his films are always a mind trip, regardless of the genre.

2023-01-14 01:41:28 +0000 UTCit always seemed much easier to me just to fix our own climate rather than trying desperately to find another island in the ocean. Mars has an equivalent on earth, its called the summit of Mount Everest. Climate change will mess up our ecosystem enormously but it wont even be close to the cold hellscape of mars. An abundance of warmth is always preferable to an a abundance of cold....

2023-01-13 22:38:11 +0000 UTCThis was my third full watch of the movie and OH MY GOD I did not expect to cry as much as I did! Other than Schindler's List I haven't been emotionally moved by a movie like I've been with this. And Hans Zimmer's soundtrack is just the icing on the cake. Brings everything together so well! I know a lot of critics say this isn't even Nolan's best film and cite The Prestige and The Dark Knight as his best works. And I would agree with those points if only Interstellar didn't do everything else soo much better! Like the Visuals, Soundtrack, Cinematography, Art Design and most importantly for me Emotional Impact! This movie legit leaves me with a deep yearning to do my best as a human being and help humanity.

2023-01-09 03:25:29 +0000 UTCFun super fact! A laureate is a person who is honored with an award for outstanding creative or intellectual achievement, by Aviation Week or so I read.. It's a pretty big deal in terms of Aerospace achievements in flight, and physics! Sooo Christopher Nolan teamed up with with Kip Thorne, a laureate of the 2017 Nobel Prize for Physics, in order to ensure the science was accurate to todays' knowledge, and understanding for this movie. How cool is that Nat? & OMG I cannot wait for Ex Machina, you have nooo idea. If that reaction does happen I'll be so happy.

2023-01-08 23:12:39 +0000 UTCBrian Jones, You're still here? Talk about you're embarrassing yourself at this point. I believe Nolan helped killed the DCEU, Prove me wrong? There's a reason for a reboot. without a reboot, Nolan would still be getting his Stupid all over the place. I await your reply.

2023-01-08 20:25:02 +0000 UTC"Well, I would like to point out that Nolan's budgets have been cut in half since Tenet" Oppenheimer, which is not a big budget FX action film, who's leading role isn't even being played by an A lister, and is a historical drama and vanity project, still has a budget of over $100 million.... There's only a handful of directors in the world that could command that kind of budget for a film regarding that kind of subject matter. Just stop, you're embarrassing yourself at this point.😂🤦
Brian Jones
2023-01-08 15:16:54 +0000 UTCIt's theoretically possible to live on a planet orbiting a black hole because of the heat given off by the light of its accretion disk, and staying out of its event horizon. Time is relative and I suppose we could never know for sure what it would do to us unless we were there, one of the measurable dangers like the blue shift of UV light could be counteracted by a dense enough atmosphere. If it was our only option, it could be a livable place for at least some time, but orbiting a normal star would probably almost always be more ideal. Of course, the biggest error this movie makes is the assumption that it would ever be more feasible to leave for another planet rather than find ways to fix the one we have, like revitalization of the soil with nitrogen or finding a way to decompose plastic on a large scale, or a solution to clean and abundant energy. All of these are much more accomplishable goals than interstellar travel.

2023-01-08 05:08:53 +0000 UTCIt’s been awhile since you have done a sports movie reaction, Natalie. Just a suggestion, Moneyball is an incredible film. Loved your reaction to Interstellar. Nolan never disappoints.

2023-01-08 00:33:41 +0000 UTCI loved this film; the visuals, the colours, the sound design, the performances and the music is just incredible, I listen to the soundtrack all the time. Since it came out I became a dad to 2 beautiful girls and this just hits so different now. I cried way more watching this again. When Coop talks to Old Murph about how she knew it was him and he would come back, she says "because my dad promised me", my god I weep every time, a promise to a daughter means everything to a dad. I loved this reaction so much, Thank you for sharing Nat.

2023-01-07 20:54:04 +0000 UTCI saw this on IMAX at the Chinese Theater with my cousins and I’ve seen it 4+ times since introducing it to more friends and family and I watched it with you just now and I still cry. This is a powerfully captivating experience especially when sharing it with new friends like you. Thank you so much for this, Nat. This is peak Hans Zimmer, peak Matthew Mac, and peak Chris Nolan, hands down.

2023-01-07 17:12:57 +0000 UTCThe one part I can't accept. If you were on a planet, or near enough to a black hole that it's gravity is affecting time - how are you surviving?
Mastervodo
2023-01-07 16:22:50 +0000 UTCWell, I would like to point out that Nolan's budgets have been cut in half since Tenet. That's not something they do to a director they have faith in. It took two flops before they cut M. Night's budget. Sure it was about 95% from After Earth compared to The Visit. Still, Nolan's Budget was cut by 50% from Tenet to Oppenheimer. Poor grades along with returns has Nolan on the decline. It could be said that his case has more faith in him than the Studio. With a Smaller Budget, the actors have to be paid less. With so many good actors in the movie, I would say they still have faith. While I think his budget should have been cut another 25% to put him in line with his return/fanbase.
Powers209
2023-01-07 13:59:55 +0000 UTCsuch an amazing movie, and Hanz Zimmer is definitely part of the reason, that music is iconic. the acting as well, its a movie that is more than the sum of its parts and its parts are all fantastic. I commonly go back and listen and sometimes even watch the "no time for caution" music and scene. such an amazing piece of music that elevated an (as you said) insane scene, to one of immense suspense and danger, but also hope, the growing hope as he closed in. also yea the line talking about evil not existing in nature and Coop said "bring it all with us then" was such a clever foreshadowing to Mann, remember how he was supposed to be the "bravest of us" but you find out he knew earth was doomed, so was it brave? or was it another attempt to save himself? I love the detail of making sure he knew, because it changes everything they said about him previously it has flaws obviously but it is so worth every one of them for the whole piece, I will forever love this movie

2023-01-07 10:48:16 +0000 UTCAgain, while you're welcome to your point of view, and I highly doubt it "triggered" anyone, my suggestion to you would be to consider the following..... There might just be a reason why the film industry on the whole continually hands Nolan $100+ million dollar budgets for what are essentially directorial vanity projects, while M. Night is lucky if he can hang on to a standing agreement with Blumhouse and his failing Apple TV show. But hey, on the bright side, I do find the insanity of your comparison quite amusing.😂🤷

2023-01-07 08:57:49 +0000 UTCBrian, I'm a nobody. I am nothing more than a poster on the internet and a fan of many movies. If anyone is threatened or triggered by my hot takes. The internet might not be the place for them. When it comes to being a critic of movies. It's like awards given for comedy. It doesn't make sense but it's done. There was a time I thought M. Night was a great writer/director. I have since changed my mind. I see a lot of the same issues with Nolan. I think Memento is a good movie ... and everything else the man has done has fallen off for me. I believe a movie doesn't have to be rewatchable but it's a great bonus if it is. I find Nolan's movies boring after one viewing. His Batman movies are bad because he's not a comic book fan. In fact, I think he hates comic books and should never have done those movies. Dark Knight Rises poorly rips off Frank Miller's Title Dark Knight and ruins Bane as a villain because he doesn't understand the character. His Story for Man of Steel was Stupid to the power of 10. Interstellar has a shit story about characters that are unlikeable. Dunkirk is a lame shot at an Oscar. Movies about WWI never win and even Tenet shows that the man has lost many fans over the years. I'll say Oppenheimer looks good but Nolan is his own biggest problem. Since he wrote the screenplay, I'm going to say the character will be as flat and heartless as if Lucas or Tolkien wrote the dialogue. Do I believe Nolan is as bad as M.Night? No. but he's heading in that direction as his Box office numbers drop like his fanbase. Of course, each movie has a chance to change my mind. Oppenheimer Looks like the feel-good movie of the Summer. Perfect for an Ooold Fart like me.
Powers209
2023-01-07 07:55:32 +0000 UTCLove Hans Zimmer and this may be my favorite of his scores. But one thing he is not is subtle. Especially in this film. The music surrounding Dr. Mann was very telling. We are supposed to be suspicious of him. Not sure why this movie and Nolan get so much hate. I think he excels at telling an emotional character story around scientific elements. That's why I enjoy Inception as well. Great reaction even if you've halfway seen it before.
Marty McGee
2023-01-07 07:23:53 +0000 UTC“Why do I feel like Mann is lying?” 😂 Um maybe because you’ve seen the movie! 🍻

2023-01-07 03:27:27 +0000 UTCThis movie's amazing. It's one that I've watched many times and each time I'm always deep in my emotions at the end. I first watched this movie in theaters all those years ago. I also saw Inception in theaters, but I would never compare the two as equals. They're both very different movies. I'm very glad that you watched this with us. I needed this emotional trip today. It's appreciated. :)

2023-01-07 03:01:36 +0000 UTC"I can talk about how Nolan is a hack all day" I don't doubt you could, but it certainly doesn't make it a correct statement, or hell, even anything past a mildly amusing anecdote. But hey, you do you I guess? He's only considered one of the best modern directors working in the business by both the industry and pretty much all of his directorial peers....😂🤷

2023-01-07 02:24:21 +0000 UTCGlad you enjoyed it. It's been a bit since I re-watched this and it's certainly as good as I remember. And yes, in 70mm IMAX this film was a pretty mind blowing experience. The visuals and sound were astonishing (although Nolan does tend to bury the dialogue from time to time). If they ever revive it I'd highly recommend checking it out. Great reaction as always.

Just a heads up though, it's kinda weird to talk about where you live or meeting up in a passive aggressive way online, but you seem like a boomer, so I'll give you a pass on that one. Hope you can find a friend in a normal way, that would probably help with this creepy old man vibe. Also, I'm just loving the logic of "if it didnt win best screenplay or best picture, then that means the writing is bad". Must suck to hate 99% of all films ever made.

2023-01-07 01:00:10 +0000 UTCHey John, You okay buddy? Just to be clear I attacked a movie I didn't like for being pretty dumb (Which explains the 5 Oscars it won. The Acadeny's way of saying it's pretty but Dumb.) To be clear I did not attack anyone for watching it. I like a lot of dumb movies myself. This is not one of them. Think Avatar the last M.Night and you might get how I feel about this movie. Look it's not 'Last Jedi' bad but if I had a list of bad movies it would be on my list because I hate the characters in the movie and I think the Academy agrees with me. Visuals, Score, Design, Sound Mixing, and Editing. Ouch!... What a way to tell Nolan his storytelling sucks. Clearly, you must be going thru something John and I missed the memo. Sorry, bud but I'm here now. Are you okay man? Read your post and I feel you might be in need of a good friend. I'm willing to talk with you anytime little buddy. I can talk about how Nolan is a hack all day but I don't think Nat would like it if we did that here. So let me know if you're game and I'll send you a link to my discord and we can Critique all the movies you want. And if you're in the tri-state area and want to meet up. I have an extra $3 and would love to take you out for a scoop of ice cream or a slice of pie. Who's the winner now?
Powers209
2023-01-07 00:51:17 +0000 UTCbtw The black hole is not really landscape art. It's rendered physics. The tech behind trying to make that black hole for the film helped with discoveries about the real ones.
Connor Ellis
2023-01-07 00:08:05 +0000 UTCThe visual depiction of an accretion disk is provable, there were scientific papers about gravitational lensing around spinning black holes that were a direct result of this movie's visual effects. They had to build a way to generate the geometry of that black hole using real equations, and the visual result they got was actually illuminating to the scientific community. It's really fucking cool that putting math into a computer can generate a physically accurate result even if you never had a visual reference to begin with. And after imaging a black hole with The Event Horizon in 2019, 5 years after this movie was released, we saw exactly that, for the very first time. Stuff like this really gives me hope for our ingenuity and ability to work together as a species.
John Cedar
2023-01-07 00:07:40 +0000 UTCThe movie isn't worth your time but it's apparently living rent-free in your head enough that you feel compelled to share your decision to NOT do something. What else have you NOT done today? Taken a shower? Gotten enough sleep? You good buddy? I don't like Back to the Future, but I'm not arrogant enough to claim it's a bad movie. This film won 5 Oscars and gave an actual visual representation to what an accretion disk looks like in a black hole. There have been legitimate scientific papers written based on this movie's depiction of a black hole. To compare it to anything M. Night has done in the past few decades is laughable, and honestly shows that you lack the ability to properly critique films. You just speak purely with a base emotional reaction, in a pretty inelegant way to be honest. Congrats on saving $3 though, that's a win.
John Cedar
2023-01-07 00:03:19 +0000 UTCSeen this movie a few times, and I just put this together... "The next time we see each other we might be the same age." Was Murph 124 at the end?? Also, if humans made the wormhole in the future, does that mean they also made the Black Hole? That makes this whole movie a paradox! I love it.

2023-01-06 20:55:19 +0000 UTCThis movie is what makes sci-fi great. You take real science and extrapolate out the implications of what you understand about it and fictionalize what those implications are. The black hole visualizations were done based on real formulas for gravity bending spacetime so not only do they look super cool, they are somewhat realistic (and generally confirmed since observations of the real supermassive black hole at the center of M87 in 2019) Most movies labeled sci-fi are really just fantasy stories with some science-ey words pasted it.

2023-01-06 20:43:59 +0000 UTCFun Fact: Zimmer decided that a 1926 four-manual Harrison & Harrison Organ would be the best instrument to create the soundtrack, due to “its significance to science. I stole that from google facts, word for word. When you thought Casey was going to break Murph's watch I couldn't stop laughing. I just imagine Murph exhilarated that her ghost dad helped her solve the problem of gravity, but the answer is only on the watch, then Casey Affleck just ignores all that and yeets the watch, completely shattering it pieces. The Bad Ending lol

2023-01-06 20:41:16 +0000 UTCI guess so, I love Nat but for the past half a year or so she's lowered her frequency of movies, she does more series, only one movie a week compared to at least two movies a week when she first started, it sucks but what are you gonna do 🤷

2023-01-06 19:57:37 +0000 UTCI saw this movie in theaters 7 times when it came out and twice in IMAX. I was in college at the time and there was a $3 movie deal for students. It's definitely one of my favorites. There is really no other movie that makes me cry every time no matter how many times I see it.

2023-01-06 16:57:36 +0000 UTCI was going to hate watch this movie with you. At least I was going to try. Right up to the point I found out it was going to cost me $3 and then I realized the movie isn't worth my time and $3 more is going too far. I hope everyone else enjoys the movie. I'll see everyone on the next post.

2023-01-06 16:02:48 +0000 UTCHappy Friday Nat. I've not seen this movie since it's release, so I'm looking forward to re-watching it with you today 🤗 Like you Nat, I forgot how amazing and complex with this movie was. And beyond the action and suspense, it's just such a beautiful film. The score was incredible. The use of the organ gives the movie an almost religious ambience. Your line when they were entering the wormhole "How are you supposed to get off? What exit?" jus made laugh at the right moment 😊 Thanks for an amazing reaction today, and thanks for all your awesome work this week. Can't wait to watch more with you next week. Have a brilliant weekend Nat 💛
