Also, the guy in the beginning you suspected was a composer is Yo-Yo Ma! Also, since Natasha Lyon is one of the people in Blanc's zoom game, have you ever seen But I'm A Cheerleader? Classic queer movie starring her and it's hilarious.

Hannah Saadallah

I loved how different the two Knives Out are, I hope we get more! My favorite thing as I've gotten older is campy but interesting stories with great acting and unique characters. And I love it when they delve just enough into cheese that it makes the story so much fun but not unwatchable.

Hannah Saadallah

This was AWESOME. I fuckin' loved this movie. And I'm pretty sure Birdie & Peg are not just in an, uh, work relationship.

Britt V

I enjoyed this movie almost as much as the first one, but I think Knives Out will stand the test of time a bit better. This one's topicalness will eventually date it. Or maybe turn it into a time capsule of sorts, who knows?

Troy B.

Yes to the last bit! As soon as she looked at the Mona Lisa, I remembered the line "The thing no one wants you to break..."

Troy B.

I like them both probably equally. They are totally different types of murder mysteries. Knives Out as you said starts with the murder and follows the investigation part like a Sherlock Holmes. Glass Onion is more of an Agatha Christie style where the characters are set up first, then we get to the murder, then the solution is laid out. On second viewing if you pay attention you can even see some of the clues like Miles taking the gun and him handing Duke the drink. I watched the scene with the drink before Duke's death in slow motion and it looks like they manipulated the frames to make it not so obvious. Pretty slick. I also think I enjoyed Knives Out more, but Glass Onion was funnier. The characters were more over the top. Fun tidbit: I'm pretty sure the guy that played Derol also played the Trooper in Knives Out. The one who was the mystery fan.

Marty McGee

I have a friend that worked as one of the crew on set of the Glass Onion. Said he loved it and the cast was all amazing.

Hey, was just watching your Arcane reactions and S1E4 seems to be missing.

Another great rewatch with you Natalie! Since all other commenters have done a good job dissecting the movie itself, I thought I might as well mention the reason you probably didn't hear as much about this movie compared to the original Knives Out is that Netflix paid for this movie (and the next one) and as a result it had a very abridged movie theater run - only two weeks! - and then it was gone for a month before it appeared on Netflix right at the end of the 2022. The original movie had a full theatrical run, so a lot more people had a chance to watch it in a shorter amount of time and the discourse was more notable. I was lucky enough to see it in a theater and was just waiting (and waiting) for a month until enough people watched it to talk about it!

Jorge Raya-Navarro

Had a question, you use a Sony camera right? How do you bypass the 30 minute record limit? Or do you have to restart recording and resync and we just don’t see it in the full length? Odd question I know, just trying to find a good camera lol. Thanks!

Jason Jeffory

Knowing about Yo-Yo Ma is less about your age and more about your musical preference. My mother definitely doesn't know who he is unless she see a picture of him with a cello, then she might know him as "that one classical cello player", whereas I have listened to him since I was like 5 years old and would recognize him anywhere, and I'm not even 25.

John Cedar

If you were curious, Rian Johnson has now said that until the big reveal, Miles actually did think it was Andi. He just assumed she survived his attempted poisoning. Also: one of my favorite little touches from Johnson, he did a video on YouTube breaking down Knives Out and let audiences in on one secret. Apple will let people use iPhones for free, as long as no villains use them. That's what gave away the killer in the first movie, because Chris Evans used an Android device. So, in this one? Everyone uses Android... except for Miles, who doesn't own a cellphone.

Jeff K

The Normies recognized him. They're the only ones I've seen actually know who he was.

Jeff K

Another instance of Miles being dumb that doesn't get pointed out in the movie: On the beach when he's playing the Beatles song "on the guitar Paul wrote it on." Not possible, Paul McCartney is left-handed.

Jordan Freemyer

rian johnson has made clear each movie is going to be completely different from one another, which is refreshing to hear. love the campiness and the over-the-top characters in this one especially. the fashion is also a standout to me, and the interior design. you noticed miles' self portrait, did you notice his angelic portrait of kanye? miles is unreal

Ariana Mitchell

voiced by joseph gordon levitt if u can believe!

Ariana Mitchell

My first time watching, but I heard Benoit call Andi “Helen” before she gets shot and I was curious but dismissed it pretty quickly. Would probably be an interesting watch a second time just to pick up on scenes like that!

Julia

Natalie should watch Clue.

G. T. Blackwell

i'm in the minority of people who liked glass onion better, i just love the references and cast so much. i loved getting to see everything again from helen's perspective, and i thought the murder reveal was smartly done, because they literally show you all the clues beforehand. kate hudson also had me dying of laughter, she was hilarious

alejandro

Happy that you watched this! I remember watching this for the first time however long ago and thinking that the first was better, as well. Looking forward to what's next! :)

Logan Kerlee

fun fact: Ethan Hawke was actually shooting moon knight in Budapest at the same time and was able to take a short flight to film his cameo for a day or so.

Summer

Truuf

Mastervodo

Wednesday is the most famous cellist now.

Joe Blankenship

I have watched so many reactors reacting to this movie and noone has ever recognized Yo-Yo Ma in his cameo. And that makes me feel so old ....even ancient.

Whovian Prakash

I liked the first film more overall, but in terms of a rewatch knowing what the tweest is gives this one a few extra enjoyment points. You pay attention to details you didn't think were important before, like Miles handing Duke the glass. I also appreciate the fact that Rian Johnson isn't just using the same formula in every one of these films so makes me look forward to another one.

Unsecret Identity

one of my favourite uses of masks in media since 2020, the one scene on the dock because of the masks we knew each of the characters (if we didnt from the scenes before) we have Benoit Blanc, doing the right thing and distancing while wearing a mask but also one he bought to match his outfit, then we see Lionel who is wearing an n95 mask properly and bumping elbows instead of shaking hands, while Claire is wearing the right mask, but not remotely properly, below her nose and she keeps needing to adjust it, clearly only wearing it because she is supposed to. Then comes Birdie who is wearing the infamous mesh mask while Peg is wearing the cheap masks you get for free. and of course Duke and Whiskey not even wearing anything at all. also as for Among us on a zoom call, while zoom is a bit much discord is commonly used and the game is quite active even to today, the kids i work with weekly often start every session with an among us game lol I think using zoom was just a way to mesh the whole among us joke with how we all socialized online often in zoom during the pandemic.

I think Miles ultimate fate is meant to be in the eye of the viewer; is a fraud multibillionaire going to prison? No! Is his reputation forever ruined? Yes! Why does Helen hold up the napkin to Miles? Because she believe's in justice and has a good heart. And his response is to burn it because morality literally means nothing to him. You have to understand these aren't real people in Johnson's mind they are an allegory for real issues. I appreciate that the film acknowledges that the system often doesnt find true justice. Most of the time Poirot provides no evidence; the murderer just confesses when presented with the truth! But in Glass Onion not even the Napkin can take Miles down or prove he murdered Andi. But through sheer will Helen forces 6 people to change their testimony and demonstrates to the world that his wonder fuel is terrible by burning the Mona Lisa! It's a case of two wrongs make a right.

George Baxter

When I watched this the first time I also preferred Knives Out over this sequel. However, after repeat viewings I have come to like this one just as much if not more. The thing I liked most about this movie is that it's a fair mystery. In a lot of mysteries, Sherlock Holmes stories for example, Holmes strides into a room plucks something out of a fireplace without showing the audience, and then strides back out. There's no chance for the audience to figure out anything, they're just along for the ride. Knives Out did this a bit as well. But in Glass Onion, almost everything is right there on the screen. The most obvious is the fake flashback with the glasses, of course. But on top of that, we for example see right away how fake all the Disrupters are (such as Claire's performative mask wearing with the delivery man and at the dock), the audience is told by Miles himself about all the big names he's hired to do this or that on his behalf, you can see when the recorder is tossed into the bag and so on. Later on in the scene when everyone is drunk you see Miles tuck something behind the back of his shirt after hugging Duke, and moments later very clearly tossing something heavy behind the bar counter when he's mixing a drink. Duke's phone is on the coffee table beside Miles in one scene, we cut away from Miles and cut back, and Miles is still there and the phone is gone. When he flees from the couches over to the glass sculpture area you can even see a phone poking out of his pocket. Everything is right in plain sight, but only if you know to look for it. Miles didn't burn the napkin because he hadn't thought of it until Lionel mentioned it. And he didn't even call them shitheads until he heard Helen call them shitheads. The only original and independent thought that Miles has in the entire movie is the murder of Andi, and even then it was dismissed as too dumb for someone like him to do so soon after a very public court case. There has been some argument about how provable the real napkin would have been or how much weight can be carried by the lies the Disrupters agree to tell against Miles at the end. But I think the movie makes it clear that Miles built his empire on the backs of those in his Inner Circle; both in their accomplishments in their respective industries and in their mutual support of his claims. But now they have turned on him like they did with Andie. While it is entirely possible for someone in Miles' position to survive this downturn, I think Miles specifically is incapable of doing so. I don't normally watch a movie repeatedly inside a short span of time. But this movie I have now seen a number of times with a number of reactors because of how fair the mystery is and how consistent the character choices are. I had an English professor who said that if you filmed something that, when people finished it, made them want to see it again, then you've filmed something that's twice as long. I don't remember having seen a movie that matches that saying more than Glass Onion. On a separate note, I loved how Helen's lengthy destruction of the glass statues and everyone's reaction to it perfectly matches Miles' monologue about his definition of Disruption from earlier in the movie.

CheeseRepair

Fun reaction, though I definitely felt that the first was stronger. The 2 things that kinda took me out of it was when Helen was parading the ONE piece of evidence she had and needed within arm's length of the person it could destroy, was like "Oh, he's gonna reach out and burn it or swallow it or whatever." and he sure did. That and the movie seems to pretend that witness testimony alone has more weight than it really does in reality. Miles could likely clam up, lawyer up and be fine, imo.

Keith Jacobsen

I actually liked it a lot more than I did the first time watching it. I disliked The Last Jedi but I don't hold it against him. He's in my top 20 for sure.

Walter Lopez

I have a movie suggestion!! Can you react to A Beautiful Mind? It's played by Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly. It's a real tear jerker.

Jason

I know, three of them on Amazon though. I haven’t read any but I heard they are really good.

Adam B

I can't wait for you to rewatch it. When you know what's happening the first half is going to be so much fun. You can see Miles take his gun, sooo many clues and things. They show you everything and don't really hide any clues.

John Wannamaker

Yummy reaction!

This_Jedi_crafts

I want the third movie to be set in a quaint little English village at Christmastime. He and Phillip go visit Phillip's family and as they all go caroling on Christmas Eve they find the vicar, stabbed through the heart...

Rosanne Stewart

Natasha Lyonne may be because of Russian Doll, which just so happens is a Netflix series, but it also involves (trying to avoid any spoilers) her trying to solve a mmystery...death..thing.... The zoom call is also not just about the Among Us reference, it's really just a funny way to establish that Blanc is bad at those types of games. I can understand Nat's POV about maybe casting unknown actors but at the same time, for the audience it's always fun to see cameos and having it be a somewhat insignificant scene is usually how cameos work :-p Edit: Another commenter mentioned that Lyonne is working with Rian Johnson on the series Por Face which is a crime mystery dramedy and makes a lot more sense as to why she makes the cameo.

Unsecret Identity

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar writes Sherlock Holmes novels?!

G. T. Blackwell

Also, as a lawyer, I would be remiss if I didn't point out that there's plenty of evidence they could use against Miles in court. Knives Out kinda has the same problem. Still a fun film, though.

G. T. Blackwell

I agree that Knives Out is the superior film. I thought I'd jump in to point out that Daniel Craig is not the only member of the Knives Out cast that came back for this one. Noah Segan, who plays Derol, played Trooper Wagner, the fanboy, in Knives Out.

G. T. Blackwell

Knives Out works better because no one was expecting the “murder” to be solved halfway through the movie. Now we expect the same level of tweest but are disappointed with diminished returns with each subsequent sequel

Ben Wheeler

The zoom call is because they are all connected to the mystery genre. Angela Lansbury is obviously from Murder She Wrote, Stephen Sondheim wrote The Last of Shiela (a famous mystery movie that this film is kind of based on), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar actually writes Sherlock Holmes novels, I'm not sure about Natasha Lyonne though.

Adam B

Said before, and I’ll said it again—Clue!

Ben Wheeler

I recommend Confess, Fletch. It is a very funny comedy with some mystery elements. It came out last year, but wasn't advertised very well.

Brian Leonard

Napkin not envelope

MJ Szczotka

I feel like if they re-edited the movie so the sister reveal came right after she reveals the envelope it would have been better. Benoit does his speech. “Andi” comes out with the envelope. Cut to the flashbacks. Cut back to miles reaction and then torching the envelope. We should have found out the reveal when everyone else did.

MJ Szczotka

I watched Glass Onion right at the peak of the whole Elon Musk Twitter scandal. The timing of this movie was impeccable. It just felt so cathartic seeing Miles get taken down as a substitute for Elon and all the other stuck up rich tech influencers. With Amogus, the pandemic, and the whole Miles thing, this movie just felt so incredibly relevant and perfect for the exact time period that it released in. Kids in 20 years won't get most of the references in the movie. That, (along with a less tightly-written plot) is why I feel Knives Out is the better movie. Knives Out will be a timeless murder mystery, while Glass Onion is more of a statement of our time.

kikoyito

Other cameos Hugh Grant and the one you didn't know Yo Yo Ma.

SilentBobFather

Daniel Craig and Janelle Monae are so great in this. Bring 'em both back for the next one I say.

Joe Blankenship

Watching these full-length reactions with you is just so much fun for re-watching movies and series with. It was a bit slow for me throughout the first half of the movie, the first time I watched it, and when that moment with Janelle Monáe occurred, I was quite literally seconds away from turning it off….. and thankfully I didn’t. From that point onward is when the movie finally broke out of its shell and became interesting. I’m trying not to spoil anything in my comment for those who are going to watch the movie the first time while watching your reaction. But I do agree that the first Knives Out had a better pacing throughout and was a bit better of a story line. But I really enjoyed Janelle Monáe’s performance in this movie, especially in the 2nd half of the movie. As much as I like her singing, I’m hoping she devotes more time towards acting going forward. Between her and Jenna Ortega, movies are getting to be fun again. Now if we can just get some more original ideas going into scripts! I’m just about burned out with superheroes and reboot trilogies. I’m glad you finally got around to reacting to this movie, and am looking forward to you finishing the Wednesday series.

Tim D.

The zoom call is more relevant than it seems, since they're all involved with murder and mystery storytellling, that's why they're there. :) Fun fact, Ethan Hawke was just in the area filming Moon Knight so he just agreed to pop in and that's why he was there. *grin*

FalcorDragon

Dave Bautista, who played Duke is a gamer. He has nerdy tattoos all over his body too.

djKENTO

I love the people he’s playing Among Us with. Stephen Sondheim who wrote the murder musical Sweeney Todd… Angela Landsbury, the best tv detective… Natasha Leone who’s in the new Rian Johnson tv crime show Poker Face… and NBA all star Kareem Abdul-Jabar who writes Sherlock Holmes novels now. All involved in murder mysteries.

djKENTO

I think the point of the star-studded Zoom call was about enhancing Blanc's character. When he got to the dock, he was very well known to everybody there. And that made more sense because we already knew that he played video games and participated in Zoom calls with celebrities.

PaulChristopher

I had seen Glass Onion when it first came out, being such a big fan of the original Knives Out. Bitter disappointment, a bloated, unfunny, uninteresting mess. The only character worthwhile was Janelle Monáe.'s But as the weeks went by, I began to think I should give it another chance and then today, lo and behold, Nat is on the case! I still don't love it, but it was so much more enjoyable this time around, with her help. Maybe I should just stop watching movies until Natalie covers them. But, could we please up on the superhero stuff? Quentin Tarantino should be a nice change, although "nice" is probably not the right word.

Jim Lent

The red envelope was at the center of the golden ratio 🤓

adrianR31

Serena really just sat there, heard everything, and decided to do nothing about it. She must have dislike Miles too.

sharmcant

I became a patron again specifically to watch your reaction to this particular movie. Worth it. I died laughing at Blanc's pineapple juice rant and with the Birdie/Peg dynamic.

Orrin Shawl

The man at Birdie's party is Yo-yo Ma, a famous cellist.

Haughtbreaker Nic

If you happen to love the puzzle box in the beginning of the movie download a game called 'The Room'. Ideally on a tablet or laptop. If you're into Lovecraft you'll also love this series.

adrianR31

I enjoyed both Knives out movies. They were different, and of course you are going to compare them to each other. But the main thing is, I was entertained with both, and I was entertained with Nat's reaction to both and that's why I keep coming back.

Mastervodo

The ending just feels like a contrived "slay queen!!!" moment, when in actuality, every single person in the group would be brought up on some kind of criminal charges. Agreed, very stupid.

Brian Jones

I had a good time watching this movie but especially the ending is really dumb and feels almost like slapstick, it feels like it's both meant to be funny and serious and it doesn't work. I would say Glass Onion is as entertaining as Knives Out but it's definitely a worse movie overall.

ti

Just random suggestions assuming you haven't watched them in your personal time, The Godfather, Scarface, Troy 2004 Brad Pitt was born to play that role 🙏

dieselbeast

I also think Knives Out is a little better but I actually think Glass Onion is the one that benefits more from a rewatch. . . . *SPOILERS* . . . The big reveal in Glass Onion makes for a totally different experience on second viewing, more so than Knives Out. (That being said I've probably watched both 10+ times bcos they're both just beautifully made films that work even when you know all the twists)

ozz

Fun cast of characters, some mildly funny moments, and had it simply been billed as a comedy it (kind of) works. But sadly it's well below the bar set in Knives Out. Not much point in making an overtly obvious "mystery" then titling it a "mystery". More of a troll from a director deciding to "subvert expectations" again. And we all know how well that worked out with Star Wars.🙄 While I get that a whole lot of people liked this movie, it's just not where I was hoping this series was going to go. And it definitely doesn't qualify as a good mystery. Just a mildly comedic story with a whole lot of overused tropes.

Brian Jones

This was a fine movie, but I prefer the first Knives Out. That was more re-watchable.

REDR58

YES!!! This is gonna be FUN! Thank you, Nat!!

Alan Felicia

This is going to be fun

Jamie A-H

Was hoping this was the surprise, excited to rewatch with you!

Jason Gillman

I feel like Nat needs to start a gimmick like the opening to the Simpsons where she does something crazy and funny with Dave every intro.

Mastervodo

Daniel Molina

Happy Feature Friday Nat. Been holding off watching this movie to watch along with you. Excited to finally see it 😊 You certainly brought us some sunshine on this freezing evening Nat 😄 This was a fun movie and had a lot going on. Was a good story and all the cast played their parts well. Daniel Craig should do more comedies. I think I enjoyed Knives Out more as well. The actors in the Among Us zoom call were cast due to their links with Murder Mysteries. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote a series of mystery novels. Stephen Sondheim co-wrote the film The Last of Sheila, which inspired this movie. Angela Lansbury starred in Murder She Wrote, and Natasha Lyonne is starring in the director's next mystery show Poker Face. Now you know, Nat. Good old Google he he Thanks for a really great reaction today Nat. Really enjoyed watching today. Thanks for all your awesome work this week too. Have a brilliant weekend 💛

Yes! knew it :D
