They were only good to the slaves because of circumstance, clearly no slave owner is good by virtue of being a slave owner.

James Zagame

That’s unfortunate to hear

calum1

I tried watching that movie but found it boring and gave up after half an hour

Thoko

After the first Mandingo fight, when Django is smoking at the bar, the man Django interacts with about his name is Franco Nero, he played the title role in the old spaghetti western Django (1966), which this movie is influenced from. He’s also wearing bright white gloves, which I believe is a reference to that film in which Django has his hands broken and wrapped in bandages lol

Gilbert Gonzalez

I got a really weird response when thanking you for acknowledging BHM on YouTube so I came here to do it instead! lol Thanks for actually saying it bc not many creators do

Natasha

One of my favorites of all time!

collegeguy6377

yeah i got that for a sec, but i lost his point....maybe he is just insane.

Cripkie

I think he is quoting Pirates of the Carribean for some reason

Thoko

i dont get it, i thought i did for a sec but i was wrong.

Cripkie

He doesn’t rub real blood on Kerry Washington’s face though, that’s fake blood shot later.

Jason Gillman

Damn to the depths whatever muttonhead thought up parley!

Mastervodo

django sounds like a french name....but maybe im being obtuse.

Cripkie

Yeah, nothing fucking happened all the second act, it's where I usually fall asleep.

Daniel Vezina

So, I guess Spartacus is out...

Daniel Vezina

You should watch the hateful 8, it’s another great tarentino film, very similar in its western style to this movie

calum1

"the flowers!" ummm... it's cotton lol

Foxyguava

The first time I saw that scene I said "That's not how physics work" but Nat's response was better.

Richard Maurer

Jackie Brown is very underrated.

Richard Maurer

Yes, cut it while slapping the table.

Thomas Richter

I love how he's got a cavity on the tooth

Thomas Richter

It's just a matter of degrees, all slave owners were bad, but some were a lot worse than others. The idea that a slave could consider a slave owner good because they didn't brutalize them is heartbreaking.

Richard Maurer

Quinton Tarantino was the guy toward the end who exploded with the dynamite in his hand xD

LightsCameraJake

Sure, this movie is such a slow burn, how does anybody get through it........s/

Richard Maurer

3rd times the charm, maybe I won't fall asleep before the end this time.

Daniel Vezina

Bro, "good" just means they didn't kill their slaves willy-nilly. No human being who "owns" another human can be good.

Nico Piel

Well im going to take the word of the actual slave not you guys.

juan calderon

Nobody who owns human beings as property is "good"

Andrew Smith

There’s no such thing as a “good slave owner.”

PureGonzo

The blood on Leo's hand was real. He accidentally cut his hand but decided to stay in character and incorporate it into the scene

Thoko

Same I was waiting for that too that's why I pointed it out.

Chris Henderson

Has Nat ever watched 12 years a slave? Cause Solomon Northup wrote that there were good slave owners. You didn't appreciate them until you went to the really bad ones. The movie is heartbreaking so i dont know if she would handle it too well. But it is wonderfully acted.

juan calderon

I was LAUGHING when she said that! hahahaha

Logan Kerlee

I agree 100. Leo was great in this movie as in i guess all movies hes in.

juan calderon

I was honestly surprised that she didn't jump out and say "That's Quintin, isn't it?!" or something just like that.

Logan Kerlee

Jackie Brown is very worth checking out.

Logan Kerlee

Big time enjoyed watching this with you! Such an awesome movie. I've watched this a good number of times but for some reason I did not remember that last bit at all! I remembered (wrongly) Django and King killing Candy's whole crew at that house. I remembered them killing everyone there and Django and his lady riding off together. Instead, though!.. I got something much more exciting! I'm glad that I remembered that incorrectly. Good deal and an awesome movie! Thanks for reacting to it Natalie! It's always a great time watching something with you. :)

Logan Kerlee

100% sold on that.

Logan Kerlee

I rewatched Dumb and Dumber the other day. Recommend to Nat.

Mastervodo

Tarantino's Aussie accent is so bad that I thought he might be doing it intentionally to be funny, but no, after Googling it it turns out it's really just bad. Agree about TQatD, a western that a lot western fans don't seem to get - but then, a lot of people outside of horror fans don't seem to get Raimi's style.

Richard Maurer

This was a fun commentary. I do enjoy this movie but QT’s Australian accent is one of the worst things he’s ever done. If you want a suggestion for another Western THE QUICK AND THE DEAD by Sam Raimi with a very young Leo DiCaprio is a near perfect film. There’s less gore but heaps of crazy zooms.

Jacob King

django is part of my unofficial quentin revisionist history trilogy; django, basterds and hollywood. tho most of tarantino's work has meandering, derivative ideas and unnecessary feet shots, he is still an expert in tension and crafting a scene.

Wu Sha Ling

moment of silence for quentin tarantino. so dedicated to his craft, he mastered an australian accent and blew himself up with a handful of dynamite in his own movie. RIP.

Marcus Perez

Quentin said this is a love story first.

TinCan Cosmanaut

You should check out A Million Ways to Die in the West…or at least just the post credit scene….

Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen #1

The bag scene and “Bye Miss Laura” always brings me to tears🤣

Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen #1

It always felt like 2 movies to me. The character building of Django then the bloodfest

Zuhl

I stand behind my words. I loved Waltz in Inglorious Basterds, I would dare to say Hans Landa is one of my favorite villain of all time, but in this movie Waltz was not given the best role. Both Samuel L. Jackson and Leo Di Caprio eclipsed Waltz' performance

Fostena

You need to flip those lines about Waltz vs Di Caprio.

FullMetal B

Di Caprio deserved an Oscar for this one. Christoph Waltz was great, but not as iconic as Leo, in my opinion. Also, the bloody hand apparently was an accident, he smashed the glass and they kept it in the movie.

Fostena

You should watch on youtube "djesus uncrossed" the parody trailer SNL made after this movie

Ido Gordin

Not sure if you've watched Superbad or Anchorman before..would love see ur reaction to some crazy comedies as such

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

Some probably said this already. The man who tests DJANGO on how to spell his name is Franco Nero who played a bounty hunter named Django in a series of spaghetti westerns back in the day. It’s a passing of the torch. It’s also where the opening song comes from.

djKENTO

The Blood is real Natalie. Leo cut his hand open and just kept going with the scene.

Connor Ellis

Another piece of movie trivia: The term "Mandingo fighting" is a reference to the 1975 film Mandingo, which has a subplot about using slaves as fighters but is primarily about ... a different sort of exploitation of slaves.

Kevin Mowery

Another note about Inglourious Basterds, the actor who played Hugo Stiglitz , Til Schweiger, has refused any role where he would be required to wear a Nazi uniform except that movie, because he played a killer of Nazis.

Kevin Mowery

This is just one of those films I never get tired of watching. From the opening song to the last, I love it.

Patrick Reynolds

Happy they used fake blood on Washington's face. That would have crossed the line for sure. Even if they both agreed to something like that.

Patrick Reynolds

not one of my favs but enjoyable enoight to watch at least once

Squ33ky

Love this movie! Hearing the music from Trinity in the end when he blows up Candyland puts such a smile on my face. <3

Danishprince

When Tarantino approached Christoph Waltz about being in this movie, Waltz said that he'd only be in the film if his character wasn't a bad guy, after playing such a despised character in Inglorious.

Vonlinchen

This may be weird but I got a strong Blazing Saddles vibe.

SilentBobFather

Oh, and there is the tiniest of post-credit scenes.

Thomas Yanez

Best line by Nat today: "SHE JUST GOT YEETED INTO THE OTHER ROOM!"

Mastervodo

Tarantino makes such compelling movies. I've seen all of them except "Jackie Brown" and I find them all easily re-watchable.

Thomas Yanez

Im sure someone has said it already, but the reason Candi's hand is covered in blood is that Leo legit cut his hand open during that scene and powered through.

BlackSheep

One of those Aussies was Q himself. Also Sam Jackson's character was truly in charge as you can see how stood up straight not needing the cane.

Chris Henderson

The Actor who asked Django to spell his name is Franco Nero. He played Django in the original Movies from the 60´s. It was sign of respect from Quentin to bring him in for a special appearance. Some Trivia you could find interesting: During the filming of one of the dinner-scenes, Leonardo DiCaprio had to stop the scene because he was having "a difficult time" using so many racial slurs. Samuel L. Jackson then pulled him aside telling him, "Motherfucker, this is just another Tuesday for us." When Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) smashes his hand on the dinner-table, DiCaprio did accidentally crush a small stemmed glass with his palm and did really begin to bleed. He ignored it, stayed in character, and continued with the scene. Quentin Tarantino was so impressed that he used this take in the final print, and when he called cut, the room erupted in a standing ovation. DiCaprio's hand was bandaged, and he suggested the idea of smearing blood onto the face of Kerry Washington. Tarantino and Washington both liked this, so Tarantino got some fake blood together.

Curaitis

The purpose of the collars was to prevent slaves from running away. The large barbs were meant to snag on bushes and branches to make running through the wilderness difficult/impossible.

offbrandhotdogs

the story of brunhilde and siegfried is not made up for the movie it is an an old german epic ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nibelungenlied Also is it the basis to the famous opera by richard wagner - one song you surely have heard of from that is "Ride of the Valkyries" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeRwBiu4wfQ

Andreas Sommer

Thanks for sharing Nat, I have not watched the reaction yet, but I wanted to know if you have heard the story yet about the dinner table scene, Leo accidentally broke a glass and cut his hand so the blood in that scene was unintentional and real, Leo stayed in character and used the accident to make an unforgettable scene.

Baron

Spoiler. No he refused cause he wanted to be the one to kill leo. No one rewrites Tarantino

jamie jones

"The D is silent, hillbilly"

adrianR31

Fun Fact: Django was supposed to be acted by Will Smith. But he refused, because he didn't want to say the N word as far as o know :)

Florian Ottlik

Also on Paramount plus.

SilentBobFather

Woke up with a hellish fever. This is going to make my day. Thank you 🙏

adrianR31

So excited to watch it with you, cant wait to get home.

Curaitis

This is gonna be such a good reaction watch im excited 😂👏🏾💯

Happy Feature Friday Nat. Not seen this movie before so looking forward to seeing what it's all about. I enjoy the western genre a lot 😊 Interesting use of music throughout the movie by using songs and score cues from different movies. The music you liked that they used for the approach to the plantation house was from the 1983 movie Under Fire by my favourite composer Jerry Goldsmith🤗 A lot of cool and crazy characters in this movie, and I spotted a lot of familiar faces used for the supporting roles. I knew we were headed for an excessively violent finale in the way Tarantino just loves to show. Good luck Cameron 😬😊 Another great Leonardo western from his youth 28 years ago is The Quick and the Dead. It's quirky and exciting and directed by Sam Raimi. Thanks for today's video, and as always thanks for all your awesome work this week Nat. Have a brilliant weekend on your travels 💛
