FIRST TIME WATCHING: The Whale

Happy Feature Friday Folks!

I'm so glad I got to watch this film. As heavy and uncomfortable as it was at times, I really love how well acted and written this was. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments below!

I had to purchase this movie on Amazon Prime to view it. It was pretty costly as it is new and I know this is not something everyone can afford. I will try to make sure that I watch some more easily accessible/affordable films in the coming weeks. Thanks for understanding this time!

As always, thank you so much for your support and stay golden!

Hey, this was really nice. I subbed to watch your lotr react. But im either blind or i cant find it here? Is it not on patreon?

Max Wallin

The movie was good, I liked the acting and the writing. But I thought they didn't know how to end it.

Thomas Richter

The ending scene was not good

Thomas Richter

The Whale was a great film, I'm glad that I watched this. I really doubt that I would have if it wasn't a thing on here, so I'm grateful for that. I relate quite a bit with the main character. His inability to move around, to interact with his world. I may not be overweight like him but I'm in a wheelchair and can't get around very easily by myself. His way of lashing out at the world/people in it is something that I really can understand. It's very difficult to live live like that, emotionally. Gah.. I could write pages on how I relate with this character. I won't though. Glad that I had the opportunity to watch this. Will I ever watch this again? I don't know. Will I recommend it to others? Sure, I think I might. Good watch if you're looking for a sobering look at life.

Logan Kerlee

I couldn't agree more with djKENTO, we said sir!!

Baggie Mark

Damn this film hasn't been released here digitally in Australia yet, but when it is I'll come back and watch this

Gavin Day

You should honestly check out Doom Patrol. Not only is it an amazing show, but it arguably put Brendan Fraser back on the map.

Adam Grunther

This is what I had always been hoping for. Beautiful, Natalie.

Jim Lent

Great pick, Natalie! If you are willing to watch another devastating drama with a parenting theme check out The Road (2009). The more I watch it, the more I cry like a baby

Fostena

Because I said I was skipping it? I was sharing an opinion, you don’t have to be a twat about it

Nathan Smith

Glad for the choice. I probably would never have got around to watching this if not for this channel, and I'm happy I did.

Kev Martin

He was drawing pain from his real life for this movie

Jenny Tolls

Scott Pilgrim. We needs some Scott Pilgrim.

Mastervodo

Man I hope Brendan Fraser gets a lot of great roles after this. I just finished watching and I'm not quite sure how I feel about the movie yet, but I can say that despite it being based on a play it felt like the time flew by. I'm not sure if that's because of the movie or because I was watching with your reaction. Brendan was truly perfect, though. I tried to imagine other actors in the role, say Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon or Brad Pitt... all great actors but I don't think it would have worked with anyone else.

Tom Evans

Brendan’s performance saves this movie from being among terrible.

Dooly

to you… there wasn’t a single film on that poll that was interesting… TO YOU. That’s a huge difference. There have been plenty of films I don’t care about that Nat has reacted to and you know why I watch them? CUZ I’M HERE FOR NAT’S REACTION. That’s why we’re all here. Also.. a lot of those films are fucking fiiiiiire.

djKENTO

Thanks for the watchalong I don't think I would have caught the movie otherwise. It was such an interesting and well acted cast of characters, the end def got me. It's great having a mix of stuff on here. Those coyotes tho lol.

john takacs

Thanks Nat. Please, please watch Andor. I really think you’ll appreciate it and enjoy it. ✌️💙🥶

Trish Murphy

Well this is officially the first movie where I’ve cried along instead of just watched along 😭

Daniel McGuinness

This was my second time watching this movie and I'll be perfectly honest, it was better the second time though I feel that is due to the fact that on my initial viewing I had a lot of expectations of what this movie was going to be. This time however I knew exactly what it was going to be and could therefore appreciate and enjoy the story and the performances. Great performances and a very good film.

Charles Semon

It is. Brendan’s character is the human form of Willy. That’s why he was struggling so much and was always wet.

Jenny Tolls

Wait, I thought this was a spinoff of Free Willy!

David Crabtree

Such an incredible performance by Brendan Fraser, loved your reaction and insight!

Edward Shin

Actually, I found it to be a nice moment of fun to comment on your entitled nature. Don't worry about it, interacting with you was a net positive for me. I hope seeing "The Whale" on your patreon timeline didn't ruin your week lmao

John Cedar

I’m sorry to have triggered you. I hope it doesn’t ruin your whole week.

Nathan Smith

Alright, if you couldn't tell what I was implying, here was my opinion: Why did you need to tell us that you're skipping something? It's one thing to criticize a movie you watched and have an opinion on, its another to criticize one you didn't watch and don't want to watch. There is nothing to offer there other than your disdain that the reactor didn't upload something that was in your specific interest. I'm not interested in a lot of the things posted here, and when I'm not interested, I simply skip. If Natalie has nothing that appeals to me for a while, I unsubscribe until she does. I don't feel the need to shit on others entertainment or try to influence the reactor through negativity, because that would make me fucking annoying. And there's the TL;DR of my opinion: Nathan was being fucking annoying. Hope this helped.

John Cedar

Brendan Fraser was a big part of my childhood so to see him suffer and pull in real pain from his life was a struggle to watch. That man is a gem and he deserved more!

Jenny Tolls

Yeah, as a fatman myself, I'm kinda over the whole "actor in a fatsuit" thing. Just hire a fat actor. But on the other hand, I'm a Brendan Fraser fan, so I don't know.

Joe Blankenship

Ellie is such a horrible prick, I find it really weird that anyone could find her actions in anyway funny

Fraser

If you want some really funny raunchy comedy may I suggest the Clerks trilogy? I guess I did just suggest it.

SilentBobFather

You never even shared an opinion John, just a sarcastic remark.

JQ

Hell yeah let's start the weekend with some D E P R E S S I O N

Kyle

What a polarizing movie choice, I'm having more fun reading the comments then watching the reaction haha.

JQ

Saw it twice in theaters. So powerful. A film that only intellectuals can appreciate though but I'm glad Nat is sharing more than just zombies and super heros with us. That's why I subscribe. I need elevated material every now and then.

Jason Dolan

Wow this film was too real and wow it was so good. I related a lot tbh and made me think a lot about my health both physically and mentally with the direction I need to take to help myself be happier. Thanks for reacting to this Nat.

LightsCameraJake

I am my 81 year old father's caretaker who is overweight and when I deny him food, it has a psychological effect on his mood and he becomes impossible to be around, so while it does seem like enabling, it is often more complicated than just what's on the surface. People with eating disorders have more going on than just the need for the food. I've been taking care of my father for 9 years and I've tried denying him food and it actually has very bad physical side effects, so you have to find ways to get them to eat healthy. This movie is obviously dealing with the worst extreme of disorders though.

Jason Dolan

Jeez, a bunch of unhappy comments here. Lighten up, guys. I don't watch every single thing Nat reacts to (like Wednesday and most of the movies) but I'm not gonna complain on every single post about it. Anyway, I haven't seen this film yet, but I'll watch it along with Nat when I get a chance. I've heard Brendan is amazing, so I'm looking forward to it!

Mike Hell

Sounds like you have a problem with people sharing their opinions on your opinions

John Cedar

Is that what The Last of Us is? Because I haven't been finding escapism in that show at all. That show fills me with way more dread than this movie does.

John Cedar

Sounds like you have a problem with people sharing their opinions

Nathan Smith

Thanks for letting us know Nathan, we'd better make sure that she only posts what you'd like to see in the future. Maybe you should give us a full list of the films and directors you don't like so a tragedy like this doesn't happen ever again.

John Cedar

Pretty disappointing to see the negative reactions to this in comments so far. As much as it's fun to watch your reactions to all the stuff that has made your channel popular, it's great to see your analysis of something with a bit more depth. I'd love to see more content like this where there is substance to the content - even though I'm not sure that this is a great film (personally I do find films closely adapted from plays are lacking some spark that makes for great cinema), it's definitely a great performance by Brendan Fraser, and worth watching. I hope you manage to fit more "Oscar" movies in amongst the lighter fare.

Chris Cooper

Well worth the wait, Mark! It's a good one.

Logan Kerlee

I'm afraid the last thing I want to watch is a movie about an obese man in full failure mode. Too real for me. Can't we get back to some mindless escapism?

Daniel Ketchum

You must have some awful taste

tristan renaut

Hi Nat, I'm looking forward to watching this, but unfortunately it's not available by any legal means in the UK, and I would prefer to pay for it to support the amazing people who made it. So I'll wait for it to be available. As always thanks for you great content. Mark...

Baggie Mark

Liked Brendan Fraser but I don’t think the film handled it’s theme well. Too much about it besides brendan was disappointing to me

thepooman

Dont hate it because its mainstream. There just wasnt a single film on that poll that was even remotely interesting

ButtyOh

this was an incredible film! Brendan Fraser has to get an Oscar! Glad you watched it! ignore the haters they can stay mad

dieselbeast

Happy Feature Friday Nat. I look forward to watching your reaction when this movie becomes available to stream here. It looks like a difficult movie to watch, but I will watch it when I get the chance. I'm going to watch your Wednesday TLOU reaction that I saved for tonight. Thanks as always for your awesome work this week Nat. Have a great weekend 💛

Darryl Low

Is it fun hating mainstream stuff because it's mainstream? Seems like it'd be an exhausting way to live.

Tyler Joyce

tell us how you really feel…

djKENTO

Well this is a skip. Not about this director and his tragedy porn films.

Nathan Smith

The crap film that won the crappy film poll.
