Hope you all had a great weekend! It's time for more of THE BOYS!!
Ignore my little rambling section at the very end of this video where I talk about this week's schedule. I shifted some things around and managed to film The Last of Us last night so should have that for you later this week. Last week was a little chaotic in preparation for me traveling this whole week (I'm currently in the air as you're reading this haha) and I wasn't really sure how things would shake out.

2023-03-16 00:27:14 +0000 UTCThe point is that 99% of people cannot tell what's practical/CG/mixed without a breakdown video after, so it's ridiculous to talk about "it was done practically!" which implies the absence of VFX or that VFX are inferior. Do the shots work to tell the story? Yes? Then it doesn't matter what's practical or VFX. It's just a braindead normie take that studios have been happy to capitalize on and lie about in marketing campaigns, like with the Predator movie or Top Gun: Maverick. If you needed any more proof that the average moviegoer is talking out of their ass when dissing CG, just look at the season finale of The Last of Us. So many people on social media were saying the giraffe looked fake when it was an actual giraffe that was in the room with Bella and Pedro. Actually embarrassing, and the whole sentiment comes off as incredibly tone deaf to the hard work and artistry that CG artists pour into their work.

2023-03-15 11:08:36 +0000 UTCIdk he looked to be very satisfied when killing those terrorists with the army or that one dude that shot at him and Maeve lol he’s just as sadistic as Stormfront but he masks it under the guise of defense or “fighting for freedom.” Also idk if you’ve seen season 3 but without spoiling anything, he shows that he’s ready to kill everyone at any point, he just needs a good reason to finally let go.

I like that the series has kept Homelander consistently a Sociopath (Lacking empathy and treats others like objects) and now has introduced someone with true homicidal ideation in Stormfront. (She's driven to kill and is clearly a sadist, but also seems to have a psychopathy as she blends in to normal people very well.) Homelander has a narcissistic side for sure as he wants to be loved, but he doesn't want to kill. He treats killing as a tool, not a goal. This means Homelander CAN be a hero, if he's handled right, but Stormfront is a lost cause. She'll always seek victims. And when she's able, like in this episode, she'll rack up a body count as high as she can get away with.

Practical effects done correctly are great but for certain characters, such as the Hulk and Thanos, CGI is the only way they could be done without looking ridiculous.

I'd forgotten how effective her intro was, having binged this just once on release. These watchalongs as they come out help highlight the episodes as seperate entities (to me, now). Enjoy the rest.

2023-03-14 21:01:17 +0000 UTCEven though A-train is an ass, I believe his points are valid. When you said he should have been saving, I think you are missing A-Trains story. A-train represents the rags-to-riches story that many black athletes experience. The point of showing he is not good with money is a commentary on how these corporations and teams will pull black kids out of the hood but not actually help them manage their finances when they get all this money. So for someone who grew up poor, money is a big thing to them and he was right, it's always people who grew up with money telling people money is not everything. Growing up poor from experience money is important.

They gave Jack Quaid a "safeword" in case being on the front of the boat was too much for him. I think it was actually just "Karl!" Turns out that with the speed of the boat, the helicopter that was flying above filming them, and the crashing of the waves, Karl Urban wasn't able to hear him and since Quaid was facing forward, Urban couldn't see him yelling it. Urban said after they stopped, he looked at Quaid and Quaid was white as a sheet.

The short version of the plot is; a ex Marine, turned Hitman, named Barry (played by Bill Hader) is sent to Cali for a assassination job. Upon trying to take out his target he realizes he wants to take up acting. The acting classes he takes begin to conflict with his assassin work. With his two lives blending together, Barry has to decide which path he wants to continue down. Assassin or Actor? I know what you're thinking, "the plot doesn't sound like it works". Surprisingly it does. Barry is considered a dark comedy but it is full of suspense too, best of all its wrtitten, produced and acted out by Bill Hader. The show was nominated for 44 Emmys and won 9 of them. Bill Hader comes from a comedy background so he has the funny parts down, it's the dark side of Bill that I love in his acting Seeing as to how you talk about being a theater kid I would like your commentary on this show. 2023-03-14 03:45:13 +0000 UTCLol, there was still tons of CG in that scene. And everywhere else in this show, in places you could not notice 99% of the time. Just like practical effects, CG is a tool, to be used well or poorly depending on the implementation. This reminds me of the nonsense about Top Gun: Maverick and how much they wanted to sell how "practical" that film is when it has over 2000 VFX shots. And the even funnier thing is that the whale is entirely CG in pretty much all of the shots before it's beached. You know, when it has to actually move in the water like a whale. Practical is little more than a marketing tactic these days and nostalgia bait for old school filmmaking. You can't even begin to notice all the VFX that you are seeing in everything you watch, all the time. And when you don't notice, you don't praise the VFX artists like you might praise the practical artists, because good VFX work is supposed to be utterly invisible, while practical can look exactly like a puppet or prop but people will love and excuse it because of nostalgia goggles, like those ancient looking Mandalorian puppets last week.

Also, pretty awesome that they built a full size practical whale to drive a boat through. I don't think they could have pulled it off as well if they'd relied mostly on CGI.

2023-03-13 20:12:13 +0000 UTCNow that Stormfront's villain twist has been revealed, it would now be safe to say that the show has already made several subtle hints early on towards what Stormfront's true nature is that are very easily missed. I won't detail what exactly that nature is just yet because that reveal is still to come, but the clues are there to be found.

Before this all you ever got was her being really feminist and sticking to the man kinda thing, bein fun with it, it's easy to like her character. Then they have her go off the deepend as soon as she gets into combat, and show her true colours. I'm surpised Nat didn't realize that she killed that family not becasue they were scared and screaming but because they're black, and does so much damage overall because it's low income housing and likely full of people she doesn't like

Homelander actually really loves his son, and did as he asked. Ryan didn't want to jump so he gave him a little shove. Dont forget Homelander can literally see through his body and see any damage or irregularities, and Stormfront has soooooo much Rizz it's over 9000.
