It more of less stands alone as long as you have a brief spark notes idea of what happens in Defenders. All said, please watch it. For me it is some of the best TV I've ever seen.

It was honestly very difficult for me to continue with Daredevil even though I loved the show, just because I found out that I had to watch like what? 5-6 seasons of other hour-long shows just to be caught up? It's not the easiest to get into, especially if you like...you know, have a job, or anything else to do outside of watching TV 24/7. That being said, it's totally worth it to stick with Daredevil (Defenders is a must-watch to know what's going on though. Not an awful series either)

2023-03-27 22:43:10 +0000 UTCHonestly, you should just quickly youtube Iron Fist and Luke Cage season 1 recaps and get to The Defenders and DD season 3. Honestly just knowing Luke is good enough. He's fantastic and the first half of his show was set up to be amazing, but it all falls apart at that halfway point. DD season 3 is, imo, a perfect season of television and I think you'd really regret not watching it. There's really no need to watch everything else. There's only 1 other show you should watch and you don't need to watch the other shows to watch that one. 😎

And mention Iron Fist just cuz the plot of Defenders spins out of that show and Daredevil mainly. Whereas JJ season 2, Luke Cage seasons 1 and 2 and Iron Fist season 2 all follow their own stories. Though Iron Fist season 2 is better written and acted than season 1. I apologize for season 1 if you decide to watch it. But narratively, watching those two makes sense before watching Daredevil season 3 after you finish this season.

2023-03-26 10:26:05 +0000 UTCPersonally, I prefer season 3 to season 1, so I would highly recommend completing this series. what you choose to watch between S2 and S3 is up to you. Through Jessica Jones' show, you've already met Luke Cage, leaving only Iron Fist as needing introduction, but Matt, Luke, and Jessica all don't know who Iron Fist is, so his (weak imo) series is not needed to watch Defenders. I personally am not a huge fan of that show, but definitely sets up the S3 arcs Matt, Foggy, and Karen. But there are supercuts on youtube if you want to skip any irrelevant info (as I do in my multiple DD rewatches...).

If you decided to watch one of the others, I would have recommended Punisher, who isn't even a part of the Defenders. Punisher and Daredevil has the best stories and action and you don't need to watch either show to understand what is going on. Anyone who told you it was necessary to watch all of the marvel netflix shows only did so to get you to watch the Defenders. They aren't terrible, but not worth watching over any of the other titles you have coming up. Hopefully everyone else starts being honest about that so they don't convince you not to watch DD season 3 (the best one) just because they wanted you to watch a totally different show imho.

After Defenders you can skip right to Daredevil S3 and the if you want to watch the seasons of the other shows. Personally I think S2 of both Luke Cage and Iron Fist were better than their S1s and both seasons of Punisher are great. Jessica Jones S2 and S3 I wasn't the biggest fan of but they weren't bad, I just have my reasons for not liking them as much as the others.

JJ seasons 2 and 3 were good... but no where near the level of season 1 largely due to the absence of Kilgrave who was one of the best done villains in superhero television history. Defenders provides lots of answers and also furthers the plots for many of the shows.... and seeing everyone team up is cool... but the quality is lacking. Luke Cage was disappointing because I had high hopes... amazing cast... awesome character... set in Harlem... but the execution was poor. Was not a big fan of Punisher buts its definitely the 3rd best one after DD and JJ ... that said, whichever ones you do decide to watch I will be watching along.

Iron Fist sucks, you can clearly see that Finn Jones never threw a punch in his life, let alone know any kind of martials art. LC S2 is Ok, JJ S3 is ok, Punisher S2 is good but not awesome, so is DD S3. Defender could have been good, but makes absolutely no sense.

They have already confirmed Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Frank Castle, Matt and even some stars of Non-Netflix Marvel shows like Nico from Runaways ( which you should watch on HULU it is AMAZING ) and some of the characters of Agents of Shield are all joining the MCU at some point in the near future.

Good lead into season 3 of DD, and get to see more Jessica Jones and Luke Cage without having to jump into those series completely yet. If/when Nat decides to go watch all of those, can just view it as a prequel. Defenders is so Daredevil focused anyway, it's really more like Daredevil season 2.5

It’s the only marvel series that is relevant to the plot of daredevil S3. It just isn’t good so it wouldn’t be worth doing reactions for since many people won’t watch.

I know some people will thing that's cheating or something but the other shows aren't as good as the Daredevil series (except maybe Punisher).

You don't really need to watch Luke Cage or Iron Fist at all. Luke Cage and The Punisher are okay but not necessary to watch Daredevil S3.

I'd recommend The Punisher, too, if you end up liking his character, but I really don't think The Defenders is worth your time. It's a slog, and really ties into the Iron Fist plot line that was pretty disliked by most fans (it's fine, but the weakest of the shows).
