Did you find The Lebowski Bar when you were in Iceland? They have over 20 variations on White Russians on their menu.

When Donnie's ashes blew back all over the Dude and Walter, I about fell over laughing. The exact same thing happened when we scattered my mom's ashes; my brother stepped back just before I emptied the urn, then looked at my black suit now covered with ashes, shook his head, smiled, and said, "Saw that coming . . . I can hear her laughing at us." Also, I heartily second the recommendation for 'Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou.' It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen, on top of being (very) loosely based on the Odyssey. The period music is a joy, too.

Jim Finley

I actually expect this whenever I see the movie now

Anamondaris

Please Please Please if you have not watched O Brother Where Art Thou yet lets give that a run since we're doing Coen Brothers. It's one of my all time faves

Bowski

Kazz

I have had it with these monkey fighting snakes on this monday thru friday plane - Sam L Jackson

Eric

It was funny when she called it "semi-comedic" at the beginning. But that's just like, my opinion, man.

Joe Blankenship

This is a great movie, rewatching it made me realise how close it is to The Big Sleep (I men even the title, duh). The plot of the Big Sleep famously doesn’t work but the actors and the dialogue are so good it doesn’t matter. O Brother Where Art Thou, gets my vote if you’re looking to do more Coen Brothers.

Jacob King

Love Inherent Vice, so underrated compared to the rest of PTA’s filmography.

Jacob King

Awesome!

Kazz

Yeah I’m not sure I understand what happened in this movie either 😂 But I watched it after smoking, like the Dude intended, and I had a great time 😭

Daniel McGuinness

Interestingly, many of the ridiculous things that happened in this movie were based on real people that the Coen brothers knew. The characters of Walter and The Dude were based on people they knew, and there really had their car stolen, a high school textbook was when it was recovered, and they went to the kid’s house where the kid’s father was dying of cancer.

Wex

Nice.

Nic Benham

every character is a charicature. some are strongly rooted in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. sometimes acting as tho they are in a movie from that era. maude is the most appararent with her transatlantic accent. These are rich layers, but ultimately have nothin to do with the plot. if there was one, that is

Wu Sha Ling

Just getting back from a party, great movie to sit back and relax with now! Natalie, as a former film major, I have experienced thinking you've seen a movie that you haven't more times than I can keep track of. You're definitely not alone in your plight. Thanks for the new reaction!

Slick447

Thanks for watching this with us Nat been a long time since I saw this I was in high school when it came out and my name is Donnie so I heard a lot of stfu Donnie 😄 Enjoying the new feature fridays and hope you are narrowing your watch list down a bit so I can suggest more favorites :)

Athenor

Like you, Natalie, this is a movie I felt like I'd seen based on its presence in pop culture and references, but now that I've actually seen it from start to finish, the references do not do it justice, at all. I'm glad I watched it, though like someone else said, I may need to watch it again to fully appreciate it, because it was a lot. And I'm not yet sure if I liked all of it. Except The Dude, he really ties the movie together.

This was the Coen's first release after Fargo was nominated for Best Picture and won 2 Oscars for Francis McDormand (best actress) and Ethan Coen (writing). The disappointment among critics was palpable. I can't recall a movie reviewed so poorly upon its release and going on to classic status in my life, except Blade Runner. It is a movie that gets better and better with repeated watchings, as the details of the plot make themselves clear -- but it is not necessary to understand the plot to enjoy the movie which, as Natalie said, keeps placing the Dude in the middle of a plot he wants no part of...

james repka

Fun reaction. I enjoyed Nat confidently arguing with Walter when he was saying the toe wasn’t Bunny’s. Btw another movie that’s still very much its own kind of thing but has a lot of similarities with this film is Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice. Worth looking into, would be a fun movie to react to I think. Also would love to see you watch more Coen brothers movies. Inside Llewyn Davis is my personal favourite, famously Oscar Isaac’s breakout lead role. Would also make for a great reaction, but so would basically any Coens film.

Razor Bikini

The anime equivalent of this movie is Gintama.

Nathan Elkin

Gonna take the opportunity provided by this Jeff Bridges performance to strongly recommend True Grit (2010), a fantastic western with another all-time performance from him.

Erik Stevenson

China did intervene on behalf of North Korea during the korean war

Anthony Lopez

If you want more Sam Elliot I always recommend a 3 episode miniseries with Tom Selleck called The Sacketts based on a couple of Louis L'Amour books about three brothers trying to make their way out west. I think it was combined into a 3 hr movie on Amazon, though. All three actors played a different set of brothers in another L'Amour adaptation called The Shadow Riders.

Ben Wheeler

I'm watching this for the millionth time. Never gets old

Fostena

xD I'm really happy that you finally got to watch this! The Dude abides.

Logan Kerlee

I highly recommend "Miller's Crossing," one of the lesser talked-about Coen Brothers movie, but one of the top three of theirs in my opinion.

Tenn Seven

My favorite scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCcKBcZzGdA

Matthew

This is such a great, iconic film. Gonna watch this reaction soon so don’t know how you felt about it but for me it gets better every time I watch it.

Razor Bikini

I really think you nailed it with the review at the end about all this crazy stuff going on but The Dude wanting no part of it but still somehow ending up in the middle of all of it, and then the importance of the narrator as well. He starts the movie hyping up The Dude as "the man for his time and place" and, "he just fits right in there". And it all wraps up at the end with no lesson learned or anything just "The Dude abides" i.e., shit happens, life goes on. As Walter keeps saying throughout the movie, "Fuck it, Dude, let's go bowling".

Darren Jones

Hearing The Big Lebowski described as "Semi comedic" was very funny.

Myles Away

I’m a huge fan of the movie. I own three different versions of the DVD and The Achievers documentary, and I’ve been to three Lebowski Fests in two states, winning 2nd place in the bowling competition at one (1 point behind my friend and lead-off man on my bowling team, The Urban Achievers) and 3rd place in the costume contest at another. I think it’s really tough to get a good reaction out of this particular film because it’s really funny and clever, but not laugh-out-loud funny, and the story keeps introducing you to new characters and developments so you can’t reason out what the heck is going on until the very end. Still a blast and I’m glad Nat enjoyed it, though I sense she’s not going to start calling herself an Achiever.

Wex

That’s just like, your opinion, man. ;-)

Wex

Like Nat, this is off those films I was sure I'd seen before, but then when I watched it I realised I had never seen it before...

Baggie Mark

That’s not even a tv dub, just a dub to get the rating down to PG

Tay Schumaker

Oh, I didn't do a reaction for it (though I considered it). I wonder if I just wasn't in the right mood for it at the time?

Michael G. Munz

I also like "Jeeeper creepers, that thing is real?!" from The Matrix.

Nicholas Sulikowski

Fantastic. I haven’t watched this all the way for almost 20 years I reckon. Perfect opportunity to rewatch one of my favourite comedies of the 90s/all time. ‘The Dude abides’

Harry Reece

oft repeated trivia is one of the inside jokes. steve buscemi's previous character carl in fargo didn't shut up. that is why they tell donnie to shut up all the time

Wu Sha Ling

comedy is a odd thing. it's not just you. I would say that over half of all reactions to The Big Lebowski aren't really that good because the reactor didn't really find it funny.

YoureMrLebowski

The Dude Abides I own the Blue Ray in case you wanted to know how I'm watching it

Aaron Taft

right up there with "forget this" from galaxy quest.

YoureMrLebowski

i'll be there man. 😎

YoureMrLebowski

it's not for everyone. however it grows on many people. it's a rare movie that has time on its side. once you get the film, it has immense staying power

Wu Sha Ling

A movie that gets better on repeated viewings. An all timer

Tay Schumaker

I watched this one for the first time myself a few months ago. I was hyped up about how good it would be, and...for me, it just wasn't that great/fun. I turned it off about 3/4ths of the way through. My question: Is there something wrong with me? :D

Michael G. Munz

Thanks for sharing Nat! This should be a lot of fun, I am so curious if you do any sing a long stuff with all the amazing music in this movie.

Baron

Happy Friday nat will be watching this on weekend probably after the footie so plenty of time to make a cracking snack to enjoy while watching 🙂 have a fantastic weekend and have a fun stream later 🥳

Ian

"you're not wrong walter, you're just an *sshole" favorite among many, many quotes

Wu Sha Ling

"This is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps!" One of my favorite TV dubs.

Nicholas Sulikowski

One of my favorite movies

Happy Feature Friday Nat. This is a movie I haven't seen, and have never checked out even though I'm a big Jeff Bridges fan, so today is the day 😊 I used to be pretty good at putting names to faces, but I'm really bad at that now 😄 A surreal but never less than entertaining movie today, that made me laugh a lot and I had fun watching it with you. A lot of wacky and fun performances from everyone, and the dialogue had a lot of great lines. Thanks for a really fun reaction today Nat, and thanks for all your great work this week. Have a brilliant weekend Nat 💛
