I like the whole 1920's vibe Korra has so far like cars, and lightening bending being used to do normal work is cool and Amon is scary I do like the villians in Korra are better written than the firelord, they have actual goals instead of being straight evil wanting to destroy everything lol tho Azula was more fun to watch than her dad despite her being crazy

I think displaying good work ethic is a real stretch. She was shown to have natural ability at bending the other three elements from the first scene and nothing really demonstrates she had to work all that hard on them. Then as soon as she struggles to immediately have any success with air bending she loses all patience, clearly not accustomed to working to progress.

I had the opposite effect with Korra. She was kind of annoying at first, but I grew to like her as the series continued. Honestly, by the middle of season 3, she was very much worthy of the Avatar title. But even at her most annoying I was here for it. Korra character arc is not unlike Chihiro, the protagonist from Spirited Away or Yoko Nakajima from Twelve Kingdoms, where the protagonist can come across as spoiled or naïve and therefore be an annoying character at first, only to become heroic by the end of the story. This is especially true with The Twelve Kingdoms (a seriously slept on anime) where the protagonist is incredibly annoying for the first 5 episodes, but becomes such an amazing character by the end of the first season. In short, this is a character arc I enjoy seeing when it is well done and Legend of Korra, IMO, does it exceptionally well.

Korra has plenty of redeeming qualities. She's got great work ethic which is why she mastered the other 3 elements so easily. She has a clear sense of justice and tries to involve herself for the betterment of the world. She also adapts to the city quite quickly, already she's blending in in this episode.

i got asexual vibes from korra at first, and i would've appreciated the representation but im not gonna sit here and lie and say mako is not hot. i feel like mako is a mixture of zuko and katara. that's the only connection i can make between the old characters vs the new. i haven't seen enough of bolin but he seems to be his own character as well as korra. and naga is nothing at all like appa personality-wise imo, both the animals mirror their avatar

I think it's really cool that Korra is the exact opposite of Aang. She starts knowing the 3 elements he didn't, she wants to be the Avatar and save the world and Aang didn't. She's reckless and impatient where Aang was patient (often way too patient). And now we see that her opponents are a non-bending counter-culture group, where Aang fought an opponent that revered benders and completely controlled their culture.

I think the issue here is Korra isn't given enough redeemable qualities from the get-go. She's a selfish, teen who has a lot of growing to do, but the only reason we're given from the beginning to like her is because she's the main character of the show. You can have a flawed or unlikable protagonist, but they have to have redeeming qualities or (like Natalie mentioned in her last reaction) good side characters to balance them out. In my opinion, the first few episodes divide the time too much between world building and characters that it takes a while to get invested in the characters. Until then, most are just as Natalie described: Sokka replacement, Zuko replacement, Momo replacement, etc.

Yeah, I have to remind people that she's a teenager as well. It seems like a lot of people don't remember what being a teenager is like, and they criticize teenage behavior in a lot of shows and movies. I remember when people were complaining about the way the Stranger Things kids were acting, and I was like "They're supposed to be like 13, guys. How many of us were mature at 13?" 😂 With regard to Korra... She gradually lost me as the series went on. But I excused a lot of her early behavior because I remember being 17 and when I think back on it, I cringe. You don't do the right things, you don't say the right things, you feel everything and you think you know it all... yeesh.😂

Yeah I’m surprised that she is really annoyed with Korra so soon. I don’t understand why so many people are so harsh to her. She’s a teenager who spent her whole life cooked up in an igloo basically lolol did y’all expect her to come out and be the perfect avatar right off the bat?? When you asked “Are they using some of the same voice actors” you had just heard Kevin Michael Richardson who is one of the most iconic and prolific voice actors of the past 30 years. He played the Lion Turtle in ATLA and a bunch of other small roles. Chances are if you’ve watched a major cartoon, you’ve heard his voice at some point. And he has RANGE. From doing that deep gruff voice all the way to Cleveland Brown Jr on The Cleveland show and Family Guy which is pretty high pitched.

I think Natalie's problem with season 1 is going to be the character stuff (she's annoyed with Korra faster than I was 😂), but thankfully once the plot starts cooking it really draws the viewer in. So any annoyance that she's going to have with the characters is going to be very nicely counterbalanced by the overall story. My big thing with the show was any annoyances I had were drowned out by the fact that I loved the new world that they created. I loved this setting of 70 years into the future, with the way bending has changed and the people changed, etc. And whenever I got annoyed at Korra, I remembered Tenzin and his family as characters I enjoyed, and all the new stuff we got to see.
