And also why every season is so self-contained. Very little is carried over from one season to the next. It's very clear they didn't want to foreshadow or set up too much to use as a callback later on, since they didn't know if they would have the ability to. Which I think is a major factor in what separates ATLA and LOK, in terms of quality. ATLA is so well-thought out and, once you've seen the whole thing, it is very obvious how much was either set up very early on, or looked back on as quality content for a callback. It just hints at so much thoughtfulness and grander consideration on the part of the writers. Because they never knew what the fate of LOK was going to be, from season to season, they were unable to give the show those kinds of touches - and it definitely suffers for it.

Small correction, Studio Mir actually returned midway through season 2 because they were so unhappy with how Pierrot was handling things, starting with Beginnings.

Geoffrey of Monmouth

So, interesting fact. The ostrich horse running (the movie Varrick shows Asami and Bolin) is based off of the first ever recording which is of a horse running.

Boxx Chan

trying not to have any preconceived notions with all the hate, let's go season 2!

Ariana Mitchell

Naw its pretty apparent to me and I went ahead and I looked it up, the animation is different. Studio Mir did book 1 but because book one took so long to animate and they were exhausted they switched to Studio Pierrot for some of book 2. Studio Mir returns for book 3 and 4. Pierrot omitted some of the secondary animations and details that were in one and they go off model quite a bit too. You can also notice the change in lighting effects as well. You can Google some side by sides and see the differences.

Oulianor Timothee

Varrick is my favorite character this season

Alvin Everett

I can never be a big critic of Season 2 - it gives us Varrick! Deploy the things! Come on! Aw, man, Katara's line about siblings. She misses Sokka. :'( Gets me every time.

As I'm sure you've been informed. The production around Korra was a bit wonky. With S1 being the original solo order for this show, and due to its popularity they decided to renew for 3 more seasons. But then they had to rush S2. I would say S2 is the "weakest" of the 4, but it's really not that bad in my opinion. It also sets up the following seasons very well. Korra is tough to like early on this season, I felt they had to show that she can still have a forward trajectory, while also allowing us to see how her own tribes politics can affect her, just how the air temple sieges affected Aang. I like that while the Avatar is everyone's protectors, there's nothing quite like the stress of helping your home.

Dylan Snodgrass

the animation looks like it did the first season. i think you’re just being picky even the first season had choppy animation from time to time

TokyoLopez

Its really a shame that when Korra started, Nickelodeon didnt back it fully in the beginning The writers and producers not knowing how many episodes or seasons they were gonna do. Which caused the first season to be kind of rocky start and end, due to the fact they didnt know what plotpointa they could start or finish with.

Rodi Borst

she just found out her father and Tenzin have been lying to her her whole life.

Mathies

thats still no reason to act like it's a farewell lol

Mathies

She had her issues in season one but you would have thought with all that teamwork and the whole saving each other's lives thing it would have cooled her down and built some more trust in Tenzin but it's like she got worse. Being controlling and overbearing isn't good on Tenzin and her dad's part either. Overall it's just annoying writing.

Oulianor Timothee

Yea, I don't like how they did it. It makes Korra seem gullible and insufferable, and her instructors overbearing and overprotective. It seems like a sitcom schtick, it's overused. Unaloq appearing obviously sus saying "only I can give her the training she needs to be a complete Avatar" and her dad being adamantly against him, yet Korra is blind to the obvious red flags. All that with her being callous with the Avatar state and being temperamental with Mako didn't put her in a good light. It feels like she took a couple step back from last season.

Oulianor Timothee

I don't know if anyone else noticed the drop in quality of the animation. I think they switched studios or something around this time. Heard they were overworked, some one can verify if I'm off. I believe they formed a new studio with some of the people from the original team for the later seasons. I like the reference to the "Horse in Motion" ,the first motion photography, they used an ostrich-horse instead. Korra has too many moments that make her unlikable in last and this season. Though I see how they were restricting her and treating her like she was a child, she was also being disrespectful and ungrateful. She complained about airbending being boring to to another instructor right in Tenzins face and brushes off Tenzins instructions.

Oulianor Timothee

Yeah I don’t care much for Season 2 so I’m probably not even gonna watch until it’s over so I can just binge it. It has its moments but overall a very boring reason.

Jenny Tolls

Wow, it's almost like they had to regress her character because they had to reopen the show after closing it for season 1. That's crazy πŸ€―πŸ˜…

Lorenzo Baxter

Whenever I watch a reaction of this season, I wait till the reactor has banked about 3/4 of the season and then I start. Can't wait till she gets to season 3.

Joits

They made Korra so un likable . It’s like the first season of character development didn’t even matter

Howard baker

I mean, Korra literally spells out why: she feels that both Tenzin and her father have been lying to her, independent of any beef Tonraq and Unalaq have.

Geoffrey of Monmouth

This is the weakest season but IMO it makes up for it by having two of my favorite episodes of Avatar ever.

AtomicAcorn

I love that this season gives us a totally new concept as a threat. Very refreshing. Also shout out to Aubrey Plaza joining the cast!

djKENTO

yeah honestly i have no clue why that split as mentor and student was so dramatic, from both sides. Katara and Toph were once both simultanuous masters of Aang. Korra, Tenzin and Unalaq all seem to see it as this polarized view of "only one mentor". Tonraq seems to have more personal distrust with his brother, but so long as he doesnt tell Korra about why, his advice isnt very convincing

Mathies

Nat! I think your audio is a bit too low! I enjoyed the reaction though :)

Khea

Fun fact: Aubrey Plaza is the voice of Eska.

Justin Farley

This was faster than expected! Season 2 is generally considered the weakest but it has some incredible episodes and some that for me are amongst the best of all of Avatar <3

Danishprince

Same 😞

Ian

It's a bit unfortunate that the last 2 episodes of season 1 and the first 2 episodes of season 2 are both split between 2 weeks. When they aired, both were double episodes :) . If that helps for planning, for season 2, episodes 7 and 8, as well as episodes 13 and 14 were also double episodes :)

Arronax06

Varrick might be my favorite character in this show πŸ˜‚

Darchangel

Super excited for this surprise season premiere πŸ˜„ which I’m sure came as a surprise to Nat too since she said she didn’t realise last episode was the S1 final πŸ˜‚ it’s the goofs like this that keep life interesting dw SEASON 2 LETS GO! FULL AVATAR KORRA TIME!

Daniel McGuinness

I’m so so excited you’re going on with this series. As someone who waited until it wrapped to watch, I’ve always thought Korra got a bad shake. Can’t wait to watch this after work!!

Ginbug

Yes, Bumi is the oldest child of Katara and Aang, and he's a non-bender. Kya is next. Tenzin is the youngest.

Caomhan84
