I thought it was depressing. This is not a happy story 🙂🙁 and stressful 😥😦 I understand it's written and directed by... so it's like a personal project so we can give it leeway, give it niche status and one for his fans.

2023-12-16 18:09:26 +0000 UTCThis movie hits special to me. I was in a car accident as a kid and had terrible tinnitus ever since. No one died though. Completely unrelated, I have been in a police chase but thats a story for another day.

2023-08-12 01:59:24 +0000 UTCFirst time watch and I really enjoyed it! 😁 Also, hear me out, Jon Hamm’s character was great right up until the deafening part 😅 even when he was trying to kill Baby, my dude just lost his wife 😔 I don’t condone his actions but I understand them 😂 Really thought he was gonna help Baby get out of the game after he was relating to his music 😮💨

2023-08-06 00:08:52 +0000 UTClol, this movie may contain a lot of music but I wouldn't call it a musical.

2023-07-30 21:54:52 +0000 UTCOne of my favorites for sure. I hope you react to Peaky Blinders some time, i watch it all the way through a few times every year.

2023-07-29 17:30:04 +0000 UTCRandom movie suggestion that I hope ends up in a future poll: Midnight Run (assuming Nat hasn't seen it, and I'd be a little shocked if she had).

2023-07-29 17:24:18 +0000 UTCI love that bit near the start where baby is flipping channels at home and it literally tells the entire plot of the movie channel by channel. A moment meant entirely for your second viewing. So smart.

2023-07-29 09:23:55 +0000 UTCI love Nat’s surprise at a fast and agile Subaru. Literally one of the best racing car companies of all time.

2023-07-29 07:48:49 +0000 UTCWe all know not guilty is not same as innocent but why not give the benefit of the doubt considering all the previous backlash just because of accusations.. AnselElgort has also had serious accusations laid against him as well that is not pretty. Love this movie though

2023-07-29 03:15:23 +0000 UTC@Movie Mike: absolutely. Just because someone is "not guilty" doesn't mean they are innocent. I have no idea what this man has or has not done, but I can't help but think back to what a coworker told me BEFORE any of Spacey's legal troubles came up. He's a college coach who used to work in an area where Spacey lived, and he said (and, to reiterate, he told me this BEFORE any of the current allegations surfaced) that his players would frequent certain bars and one happened to be one where Spacey often visited. One athlete, in particular, Spacey took a particular shine to and he would always gravitate to the guy and buy him drinks and whatnot. Which, hey, isn't that bad on the surface! But the fact that a guy who was in his 50s at the time was following around a 20~ year old, buying him drinks... for me, that lends a little credence to the claims. Again, all alleged. But my third-hand anecdotal stuff certainly seems to mesh with what a lot of the allegations have been. Doesn't mean he's guilty. But being found "not guilty" also doesn't mean that he's innocent.

2023-07-29 00:20:50 +0000 UTCFilm is hardly the focus anymore and hasn’t been for ages. Scorsese was right. Marvel is the death of cinema.

2023-07-28 23:39:51 +0000 UTCLike all Edgar Wright movies, this is one that actually gets better with each rewatch, regardless if there's character or plot depth. It comes down to his talent for layering microdetails into the movie that are fun to catch upon subsequent viewings. With the music, there's obvious examples of Baby being in sync with the world around him. But also the entire movie is in sync with the music if you really look at it. Even little things like laying money on a table, or the gunshots when the last heist goes south, or just how the editing is in sync with all the music. Many movements from the actors in nearly every scene are in sync with the music, as are the cuts. It is very much a 1 hour 52 minute music video. (Which is based on a concept from an actual music video that Edgar Wright created early in his career.) There's also the opening credits scene where all the graffiti on walls and poles surrounding Baby contain the lyrics to the song Harlem Shuffle. The actors' movements, the editing, the sound effects, it's all slave to the music for nearly two hours. And you mentioned how his sunglasses keep getting broken or lost once his groove is lost. Even I didn't quite pay much attention to that until now, and I've watched this movie a few times. (Also, there is zero rhythm whenever we hear the tinnitis.) Again, it's not a deep movie, but Edgar Wright is nonetheless a master of execution. Of how to move a camera, editing, editing with music, and just making whatever it is happening not only interesting, but also have all these wonderful little easter eggs along the way. (There's sooooo many in the Cornetto Trilogy, I'm sure people have told you about, like all the names of the twelve pubs in The World's End describing what's going to happen and often what happened in 1990. And the fountain plaque in Hot Fuzz towards the beginning lists everyone whodunnit.) I really enjoyed rewatching this with you. Not just to see your reaction, but because I started seeing things I missed before that I only just noticed! I have that experience with EVERY Edgar Wright movie! (Last Night in Soho, his latest film, is great too by the way. It's has a few flaws as his weakest film, but it's still solid.)

2023-07-28 23:38:09 +0000 UTCI highly doubt there will ever be a day where the polls are actually fair and not randomly include a new movie among legit classics.

2023-07-28 22:52:51 +0000 UTCI can attest the truest part of this movie is the Atlanta traffic

2023-07-28 22:18:18 +0000 UTCI knew going in that Nat would only think this movie was only "ok" or meh overall, just a fun popcorn flick where you can turn your brain off and not think, when so many better movies worth her time were in the poll that Baby Driver was in. So I hope to see those movies make a return in a future poll. Movies that are actually good and that her young audience may have to expand their horizons into.
LightsCameraJake
2023-07-28 21:42:27 +0000 UTCIt has a lot of feminist energy which is why it won and why its popular among young people.

2023-07-28 21:37:40 +0000 UTCI had seen this movie before and thought it was OK, basically your reaction. But it was so much fun watching it with you. Now, please do "Arrival." Real science fiction. A great movie and included at no extra cost on Amazon Prime. It is also Amy Adams' greatest role, which is saying a lot. It will bring you to tears.

2023-07-28 21:28:24 +0000 UTCI guess i should take that into consideration, baby driver just never felt like a super memorable movie

2023-07-28 21:21:28 +0000 UTCGreat reaction, glad you liked it. While I do agree that it is not a super deep movie, there replay value is still there. I get a smile every time I watch it and it hits the feels the same way each time. Everything about it is top notch and with further watching one gets the ability to appreciate how well together the movie is put together. It's like a action movie and music video mash up and that's fun to watch.

2023-07-28 20:13:27 +0000 UTCIt’s to be expected considering her primary audience.
Dooly
2023-07-28 20:11:53 +0000 UTCNot Guilty is absolutely not the same thing as Innocent. Sexual assault is one of the hardest things to prove in court, which is why unless there's overwhelming evidence, these cases usually get settled out of court, or they end in Not Guilty verdicts.

2023-07-28 20:03:15 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite Jon Hamm roles was when he played Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

2023-07-28 19:49:36 +0000 UTCI miss the old days where it was majority movies and occationaly a TV show.

2023-07-28 19:30:20 +0000 UTCI'm not based on the young age demographic of her audience. It's why so many classics never win polls usually, only the trendy ones every reactor watches lol.

2023-07-28 17:51:01 +0000 UTCI keep meaning to check that out but always immediately forget it exists, because to this day I have never seen a single piece of marketing for that movie despite being based on a famous IP and starring a hugely famous and likable actor.

2023-07-28 16:33:53 +0000 UTCHappy Feature Friday Nat. Hope you have had a good week too 😊 This is a movie I haven't watched before so I will be excited to see what it's like. I know there are a lot of cool songs on the soundtrack. Wow, I didn't know we would get a car chase to Brian May's solo in Brighton Rock! Such a great song, and a really cool movie. I enjoyed watching this one a lot Nat. It was a ride, with a lot of cool characters. As soon as I saw that pole sticking out the back of the truck, I knew it was going to go through the Foxx. Ouch! 😄 Thanks for a fun reaction today, and as always thanks for all your awesome work this week. Take care and have a brilliant weekend Nat 💛
