It's crazy because logically I agree with Miguel, but emotionally I don't know if I could stop someone from saving their family. Such a good movie, I can't wait until the next one! Knowing one fight scene took four years for this film, I'm gonna try to be patient for the finale lol

I really don't understand your criticism of "less is more" and there are too many spidermen, it makes complete sense for the story and doesn't feel gimmicky. ofc there'd be a spider-society trying to stop the spiderverse from collapsing.

And 2, a "canon event" isn't just a singular thing. There a a bunch of different Spider-men and each of them can have multiple canon events. Peter has lost Uncle Ben, Gwen, and Captain Stacy. Not EVERY spider-person has these exact events play out, but they all have their own events that may or may not be unique to them.

In the first movie the Spider-People each had their own style but the movie itself had a singular, consistent style. This movie is kind of the opposite and I can't keep up. Also, he really SHOULD be able to save his dad because he already had his major death story play out in the first one when he lost Uncle Aaron. Spider-Man loses one person to teach him responsibility, that's all he needs. After that he only loses people when he needs a reminder of his responsibilities which Miles hasn't lost sight of. These people need to actually read the source material.

It just doesn’t make sense for canon to only be affected by spider people, but I’m guessing Meta is going to be considered a perspective and Miles has to get over it by choosing to believe in something else. It’s too vague to be considered hammy, but if Miles is an anomaly, he shouldn’t have ANY canon events, including his uncle dying. That would have just been a coincidence. But I do believe Miles to be Spider-Man, so this is simply the multiverse learning to grow and evolve.

The previous record holder was Endgame at 63 named characters in one movie. Across the Spider-Verse shows 280 versions of Spider-man and 95 named characters. And Miles is STILL going to do his own thing.

2023-08-12 10:18:51 +0000 UTCMy favorite part about it is that they tell the viewer outright that he's being sent to earth 42, but they also earlier had a bunch of 42s show up in Miles' universe (like on street signs and his shirt and stuff) so you might subconsciously just associate him with the number 42 without realizing. I also read that the filmmakers put in a bunch of tiny clues when Miles gets to earth 42 that it's not his earth (like his room having different posters) for the audience to slowly pick up on so they could have THEIR spidey-sense itching at the back of their head until the reveal.

I doubt the Vulture thing was actually supposed to happen. When she heard that he quit, I think that look of surprise is her realizing her world is in jeopardy now too.

Love how the Art design is based on the actual comic book of Spider Gwen and MIles. Its like reading Spider Gwen 2015 all over again! Also enjoyed All of the voice actors from Oscar Isaac (Miguel), Issa Rae (Jess), Karan Soni, from Deadpool movie franchise (Pavitr), Daniel Kaluuya (Hobie), Andy Samberg (Scarlet Spider) to name a few. Thank you Nat for picking this movie early & before your vacation break!

If that’s true, I just hope that gets addressed in the next film. They’re doing something really special and should be given the chance to do it in a humane way.

I had high expectations that it would at least be good considering how amazing the first movie was, but wow my expectations were blown away 😮💨🫡 I know the third movie has been delayed indefinitely due to the strikes but honestly, after hearing about how the animators were pushed relentlessly to reach targets and get this movie released as quickly as possible - with the same planned to happen for the third movie, I’m glad. I’d rather wait longer for a deservedly well-made 3rd instalment to this series (yes nat!) of movies, rather than get a sloppy, rushed, unsatisfying one faster 🙏🏻 And, spoiler for the after the reaction Having said that, I’d seen the word “cliffhanger” thrown around on Twitter while trying to avoid spoilers, but after seeing that ending I definitely understand why the delay is even more upsetting! Shut sucks ass! 😭 pay the writers tho x Thanks for the watch-along, Nat! Definitely one to remember 😊

Back when they were in the works of making a new spiderman movie (2010), some fans suggestion Childish Gambino as a potential actor to play spiderman, with Community still fresh on people's minds. The suggestion picked up a lot steam but unfortunely was also met with a lot of backlash on the internet due to his race. The news even made it to Stan Lee where he had to comment on it. Eventually the role went to Andrew Garfield and in the wake of the overwhelming hate/love on the interwebs of Donald Glover as Spidey, Marvel announced a new comic book. A new spiderman by the name of Miles Morales with a half black half latino background would hit comics in 2011 (2012?). ..Well and you guys know the rest.

It was originally dated for March of next year, but Hailee mentioned in an interview for AtSV that they haven't even started recording lines for it. Prob wont be out until 2025 or, more likely, 2026 is my guess.

I think Gwen needs to tell Miles to reveal his Spiderman identity to his Parents, especially his father. That way his father will have to make the choice to either Quit or become the Captain. It's not going to be Miles' choice to save his father. It will be Miles' Dad that will have to choose...😱

I see the beautiful art, the story is well executed the characters are functional but have they ever heard of 'less is more'? How many times can you bring in Spiderman variants before it stops being exciting? Every fight scene is 5-50 Spidermen acting at once. I hope if they introduce a Miles Morales into the MCU it isnt more multiversal storytelling. The infinite just isnt fun for me.

The death of a loved one that motivates the hero is one (Uncle Ben, Uncle Aaron, etc.), but the death of a police captain close to spider-man is the one that Miles is trying to prevent (Andrew Garfield & Captain Stacy, Pavitr & Captain Singh, etc). It's just coincidence that in Miles' case his captain is also a loved one

Earth-928 is a possible future of Earth-616 (Mainline Marvel Comics) where the modern world became embroiled in a massive civil war between humans and mutants. In the end the humans won but suffered tremendous losses. Even fewer mutants survived. Miguel worked for Alchemax where he tried a genetic procedure, Miguel survived the process; his DNA was spliced with the genes of a spider and gained several powers. Miguel also has Talons and Fangs and Organic Webbing. Pretty much Alchemax was trying to re-create the powers of characters from the Age of Hero's the present day of Marvel Comics. Spider-Man/Peter Parker being one of these characters. Jessica Drew ( Earth-332) Jessica is of course Spider-Woman but not the one from Earth-616. In this film she's a Variant of the Spider-Woman from Earth-332 depicted as a Black Woman with an Afro while Earth-616 Jessica Drew is white with straight black hair and a different outfit. You can actually see a comic accurate Jessica Drew Spider-Woman chasing Miles so I assume this is the mainline Earth-616 Spider-Woman. Jessica Drew being pregnant is also from the comic. She's got a very complex history in the comics relating to her origin so I'll leave a link to a video on her. Jessica Drew - https://youtu.be/wmJOchIXK4Q Ben Riley (Earth-94) Ben Riley (Taking Uncle Ben's first name and Aunt May's Maiden name) was a genetic clone of Peter Parker introduced in the original Clone Saga from the 1970s. Alot of stuff happened, pretty much Gwen Stacy showed up out of nowhere to the shock of Peter as this wasn't long after her Death. It was later revealed that a villain known as the Jackel cloned Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker who he blamed for the death of Gwen. The jackel kidnapps Ned Leeds and Spider-Man hunts the Jackel to his lab where he comes face to face with another Spider-Man. The lab is destroyed and the Clone of Peter is assumed to be killed in the lab explosion. But decades later we get the new Clone Saga in the 1990s that re-introduced that same clone. Its a long and overly complex storyline but summed up its revealed that the Clone survived. Then Peter is actually tricked into believing that he was the Clone this whole time since the original Clone Saga, this naturally pissed off so many Spider-Man fans. Peter (Thinking he was the Clone) left New York with his wife Mary Jane, leaving Ben (Who we the reader thought was the original Peter) to pick up the mantle of Spider-Man. After the reveal that our Peter was in fact not the Clone he took up the mantle of Spider-Man again while Ben became The Scarlet Spider in 1994 rocking his classic outfit with the blue hoodie over a really cool red Spider-Man outfit. The Ben Riley in this movie is a Variant of his Earth-616 counterpart from Earth-94 a fun nod to Web of Spider-Man Vol 1 118 from 1994 the first appearance of The Scarlet Spider. Insomniac Spider-Man (Earth-1048) The Spider-Man we see in between the two video game characters locked away is actually the Spider-Man of the latest Spider-Man games. You can easily spot him with the white Spider Symbol and he's even voiced by Yuri Lowenthal who voices Spider-Man in the games. In terms of the history of this Spider-Man it's extremally similar to the mainline Spider-Man from the comics but with Insomniac's own spin on the characters. Hobie Brown (Earth-138) Hobie, Spider-Man of Earth-138 is so cool and was actually bitten by a spider irradiated by illegal waste dumping taking up the title Spider-Man. He began to fight for freedom alongside his friend Captain Anarchy, heavily inspired and based on Captain America. He became the leader of the Spider Army fighting against President Ozzy Osborn's oppression. The "Little Spider-Man" (Earth-26496) This little guy who spoke to Miles is from The Spectacular Spider-Man (2008 to 2009) Animated Series voiced by Josh Keaton who also voices him in Across the Spider-Verse. You could also see Spectacular Spider-Man's Uncle Ben's death in one of the Canon Nods that showed all the deaths of Uncle Ben. I do find it funny that people have dubbed him "Little Spider-Man" as in his art style he's pretty tiny when beside the other Spider-People but the show is so good. And of course a bunch of other Web Slingers with most of the background ones just being Spider-People in different suits the Mainline Spider-Man has worn throughout the comics and then the designers gave them different body sizes and genders. This film is 100% one that would benefit from watching Easter egg videos on as there's just so much cool hidden details and throwbacks to Spider-Man lore.

I'm pretty sure miles already had his canon event with his uncle. I dont know if there can be more than one canon event if so then im wrong but that would make sense. Cant wait for the next movie!

Let's go 😊 I completely forgot this was a part one as well, and I remembered when we hit the 2hrs 10 mark because I knew the credits must be coming up 😄 A really great movie Nat. Had a lot of fun watching. The artwork was just incredible, as was the music. These movies can just blend characters together so well, and I look forward to seeing how the story ends.
