with season 3 it was different, the writers already knew they would get a forth season when they made it

A lot of the beats in this finale are callbacks. Rava and Won were only able to fuse because they harnessed the power of harmonic convergence, the same way the dark avatar fused. Also, the line "before we bent the elements, we bent the energy in ourselves" and "connecting to the pure cosmic energy" are both callbacks to what Aang learned from the lion turtle and the guru in the final season of ATLA. Even the visual sequence of korra connecting to the pure cosmic energy mirrors the same visuals from ATLA when Aang did it in ATLA. Also, I had the same thought as you during the final battle. Pema, HOP ON A BISON AND LEAVE. lol

Hannah Saadallah

I think it adds more real stakes cause if she dead then no one else can bend 4 elements lol. Anag had stakes of just learning all 4 and stopping the dictacotr firelord, Azula was more of a Zuko battle

Narutoanime16

Book 3 is for sure something to be contemplated

João Machado

I love LOK but ssn 1&2 are def suppar compared to 3&4. Even tho I don't like that they severed the link between the past avatars it is poetic bc as the world is entering a new era; Korra is starting a new era of the avatar. Can't wait for you to watch ssn 3 😊😆.

Michael Cochran

I was really upset at first about them killing the connection between Korra and her past lives, but after some reflection I've come to appreciate that whenever Korra faces a problem in the future, she can't just "cheat" so to speak and ask her past lives for advice. Not that that would necessarily solve her problems as we saw in The Last Airbender. Korra is essentially beginning the cycle anew, like Won did 10,000 years ago. I'd still say I enjoyed season 2 more than most people did, but I will also agree that season 3 is one of the best seasons from either franchise, extremely close to season 3 of TLA for me. That said, episodes 7 and 8 from this season are right up there as a couple of my absolute favorites. I love delving into the origins of the avatar and the world around them, and I love how they animated the episodes and the art direction surrounding them. That's why I also love the books that are set before TLA. They go into the life of Avatar Yangchen and Kiyoshi. I would highly recommend them.

geeageeE

Definately S3 Zaheer is my fav right next to Amon and then 3 is omg this is depressing lol

Narutoanime16

Honestly, Korra's villains were more formidable... especially in seasons 3 - 4. Amon was friggin' powerful. Even Unalaq (who I consider a somewhat trope-y lackluster villain) was formidable as a waterbender and his kids were powerful as well. Hell, the secondary antagonist in season one, Tarrlock, was a potent bloodbender. For Aang, Azula, Mai and Ty Lee were quite powerful (and they were baddies at a time when there weren't a lot of great female villains in animation*). But Korra went up against some monsters in her four seasons. * - This doesn't include anime, which was pretty ahead of its time in terms of female representation (ie. Studio Ghibli).

Robert Bonfante

Lots of people were really mad at the decision to actually kill the connection to their past lives. But I kinda like it because it forces Korra not to rely on the past too much and the first thing she did is defy the advise from a previous Avatar. Aang didnt listen to his past lives a lot either, especially in the finale. Also they do tend to skim over Asami's feelings a lot for the first 2 seasons. It was all about Korra and Mako's feelings and how they dealt with the drama. in the next season Asami gets a slightly more of an emotional focus which i like

Mathies

I like that Korra has more stakes than Last Airbender honestly other than the Firelord trying to destroy evertything. Youll see in the next 2 seasons but since Korra is older than Anag like early 20's she's deals with more adult stuff. Anng found his spiritual side too remember at the end of book 2 with the guru guy but he left to help Katar before Azula shot him down

Narutoanime16

So true

Brandon Jensen - May the force be with you

It's actually really easy to find examples of the twins and those from the northern water tribe in real life. Plenty of leaders in the world are doing shady things, yet they have loyal followers who turn a blind eye

FatLittleButterfly

For Season 3, you may need to keep a box of tissues handy. Season 3 has some deep emotional moments in it, in between the insane action.

Robert Bonfante

Season 2 also had the weakest animation.

Charles Codina

Calm down.

Liam

No, she said the guy from season 1 that got taken by a spirit. That's literally what happens to Zhao.

Evan

But she literally remembers him

Evan

Good points

Oulianor Timothee

Season 1and 4 are actually my favorites. I think the ending for season one was weak but s1 had some good moments, it was a good intro to the new world, had great animation, the fight sequences were beautifully done, I enjoyed the pro bending, and the plot was ok, it had more potential but we all know. Overall I did get a meh feeling watching Korra and felt like it wasn't blowing me away so even tho there were specific moments that weren't working for me, it all blended together. I didn't initially understand why people found s2 esp poor, but on this rewatch I saw more of the flaws. I tend to focus on conceptual execution(the creative possibilities within a universe or theme) in a show and does it capitalize or stay consistent. I felt like the world building and timeline did a lot to satisfied that in s1 but some of the other seasons fell short. Season 4 does have some good execution as I remember it, but I'll hold off on that commentary and see if I feel the same this time around.

Oulianor Timothee

my personal fave season is definitely the 3rd, but i think you are going to prefer the 4th one (no spoilers) :) loving the reactions and enjoy your break!

Grace Severi

She did say at the beginning that she’d just watched Spider-Man so she had a tension headache

John Piazza

Wow. Dude literally tells you he's Zhou, the conqueror multiple times and somehow you dont remember his name. Same dude tells you he's the moon slayer multiple times and you cant remember what he did.

Anthony7790

She forgot his name, but he was saying his own name, no shade tho, she was Polly doin a lotta back to back reactions.

Oulianor Timothee

cannot wait for next monday strap in nat you aint ready

Michael Doyle

Next season is fantastic.

Inhale Burrito

I have always had the opinion that season 2 is fine, bar the last 2 epsodes. Its a little weird with pacing, but the story is interesting. I just feel weird watching the end of the season turn into the final fight from a Power Rangers episode. If Unuvaatu didn't become a 50 ft spirit monster fighting a 50 ft Korra spirit, and it was just Korra losing Raava and having to fight Unuvaatu without Raava, getting help from everyone else and Jinora, I think the finale would be great. I also think its weird how Jinora just suddenly develops the ability to astral project out of nowhere, with the only leadup to it being that she has a strong spiritual connection. And that her projection can make a big light bomb for some reason, but I digress. If the final fight was just put together better I think the season wouldnt be hated nearly as much as it is

Jeremiah Dolan

Season 2 was the weakest in my mind, but I do like that we get to move forward with the consequences of the cosmic, good/evil fight. And while I dislike the severing the past lives thing, it does have a poetic flare to it. We focused so heavily on Wan throughout this season and his importance as the First Avatar and Korra essentially becomes the new First Avatar. Fitting for a season that is all about beginning new cycles.

Peppy Paladin

She legit said isnt he the one from season 1 that got taken down underworld by a spirt? Where in Korra did that happen in season 1. She obvs talking bout LastAirbender but just got a few things mixed up

YounesCuppino

Lin: “Mr President, a second Avatar has hit Republic city”

Daniel McGuinness

The whole “severing the connection her past lives” thing is one of the most controversial decisions in this show, especially since, minor spoiler but not really I guess, she never gets it back :/ the writers said it was so she couldn’t call on any and every past avatar to help with every problem in life, she has to trust her own instincts, which Tenzin himself tells her at the end of the episode! So I respect that but oof… Kyoshi you will be missed queen 😪 Whole season 2 is objectively a low point of the show, I hate ragging on stuff so I try to contextualise it within the confines of the show 😅 like Korra got her ass beat and back stabbed so many times this season and, even tho the ending was essentially a Big Mech Fight, she still managed to defeat the spirit of chaos and her UNCLE almost entirely without her avatar spirit 😭 I think consoling Eska and Desna after Unalaq’s death, her decision to leave the portals open, and her gentle but definitive breakup with Mako really shows her development over this season, and it sets season 3 up to be as good as it is 😊 can’t wait to get there!

Daniel McGuinness

Season 3 is breathtakingly good.

K

She thought he was a character from season 1 of Korra. He’s a main character from Avatar, the previous series

John Piazza

she did recognize him; she literally said "that guy from season 1"

Evan

I know a lot of people complain about this season, and I agree it's the weakest of the series, however I don't think it's a *bad* season. And I especially love the colorful aesthetic of the spirit world!

M. Miel

I can’t believe Natalie didn’t recognize that Zhao was from Avatar: TLA 🤣

John Piazza

Loved you reaction! I enjoyed this season, but that's mainly because I love cosmic arc in shows. Getting into the lore and stuff is something I enjoy. For season 3, I will say, pay attention to various newspaper headlines and radio reports in the background of scenes throughout the season. ^^

Daniel Drew

For my money, Season 3 is the best one. You're in for such a treat.

Michael Mammano-Cheydleur

Seasons 3 & 4 were greenlit at the same time, so while they're still self-contained, there's more continuity and open threads between them than the others.

Michael Mammano-Cheydleur

next season is FIRE

NOW WE START THE LEGEND OF KORRA

GodKingSosa

I’ve never been able to make it this far into Korra. I’m excited to finally make it to season 3 and to watch it for the first time with you.

Byron

The final episode is the capstone for this being a bad season. A series that is known for the amazing animation and creative use of bending almost ended on a fight between 2 giant mono colored things firing chest beams at each other. Can't wait for season 3. The villain is the best in all of avatar.

LookingForOwls

Season 2 was kind of weak but in its defense they where under the impression this would be the last season so stuff got rushed. But season 3 and 4 gets really strong. I think season 3 is my favorite so I'm looking forward to the next season. And yes that guy who was in the prison was the guy from season 1of avatar who killed the spirit fish. I thought it was pretty cool how they brought that back around. And I think you will really start to enjoy Verrick more moving forward as well.

john Alexander

Season 2 expands on the lore with the first Avatar and glimpse of the time before the avatar and I love that. I wish Korra leaned into her past lives throughout the season because that would make the severance at the end more impactful. Other than that, I didn't realize how much of season 2 I completely forgot.

Sean

I get it Natalie, Jinora is missing and all but..... Tenzin development 🤯 that was actually a really touching scene. Like it doesn't matter what Tenzin tells himself, he's just trying to stay sane, and confronting the fear that the Fog infected him with allowed him to completely defeat the spirit. So that was really well done. And yes, that was indeed Zhao from Avatar. Also you seemed to have missed the whole fusing thing with Unalaq and Vaatu. Remember that Wan touched the fused spirit portal during Harmonic Convergence and that is what allowed Raava and Wan to coexist in one body. They permanently became one. That's what Unalaq did too. He touched the Northern portal, flooding his body with spirit energy, permanently fusing Vaatu and himself. So there wouldn't have been any danger to Unalaq. Raava and Vaatu can be destroyed. Their battles can end with one being killed. The point of what Raava said is that in another 10,000 years, the dead one would then emerge from the one that prevailed. So Raava would've come back, just in 10,000 years time. And now same with Vaatu. He's not trapped, he's dead. So it'll be very long before we see him again. Spirit bending is the name of that technique that Unalaq uses on spirits, the same one he taught Korra with the spiraling water. That doesn't turn spirits dark or light per se. I mean, it can be used to purify dark spirits, yes, but there's a reverse that is more sinister. The purple energy that Unalaq has used twice now on Korras spirit and on Jinora isn't to turn them dark. They're not normal spirits, they are human spirits, so they don't behave with turning dark and light like other spirits would. The Dark energy would've complelty destroyed Korras spirit. Thats what Unalaq implied when he was Spirit bending Jinora. She would've died, losing her soul forever. Speaking of Spirit bending, something that's really brilliant in this finale is how Korra beat Unalaq. It's such poetic justice, that he literally taught her that technique, to get her strong enough to open the portals, and severely underestimated her and was blinded by his arrogance. Only to then end up being killed by the very technique he taught her. I think that's such a great downfall for him. So the creators luckily got green lit for season 3 and 4 together. So these next two seasons will feel more adhesive.

Lorenzo Baxter

Love your videos Natalie! I decided to finally join patreon to watch your Korra reactions, it's definitely worth it. I'd say season 2 of Korra is my least favorite season out of the series, and season 3 is def the best. I'm excited for you to get into it! Enjoy your time off! :)

Trevor Hill

Season 3 of Korra is my favorite of all of Atla. the best thing i can say about season 2 is that I liked a lot of the characters it introduced, the twins were maybe the weakest. like we all know the moment when they turn on their dad was coming but when it did it didn't feel impactful. I hate to compare against Atla but contrast that scene with Ty Lee and Mai turning on Azula or any of the times Zuko flipped back and forth. I really don't like to compare because i can't imagine how they could make that impactful in under 14 episodes. Atla had more episodes per season and those were multi season setups.

Bathu

I will say season two is my favorite of the series just because of the music and art of the spirit world and water tribes. Love ur reactions!! can't wait for season 3

Angelo

Season 2's finale is something that I like a lot in theory, but a bit less in execution. Like, I get what they're trying to do--esoteric-mythic-ring structure narrative (Unalaq's words, the teapot, energy bending, old beginnings begetting new endings, etc.), and I do like the acknowledgment again that the villain may have had something of a point (Amon: we need to disband the bending council; Unalaq: spirits and humans should live togther), but I'm just not sure it all comes together in the end as well as it does in theory. Though, ATLA's is also an ending that I think works better in theory than in practice. Really looking forward to Season 3 as well, we'll have to see if some things you've been hoping for may come to pass 👀. S3 and 4 are my personal favorite things the ATLA universe has ever done, so I'm excited to see what you think :)

Geoffrey of Monmouth

I was a little disappointed with season 2, from what I hear season 3 is a lot better. Looking forward to watching it with Nat in September..

Baggie Mark

season 3 is incredible i hope you have fun

Malak☆ملاك

Soooo excited for season 3!! One of the best seasons of television ever in my opinion

Francesca White

Happy Tuesday Nat. We're at the end of the spirit world road. Excited to see what happens 😊 An epic battle between light and dark. I enjoyed the spectacle of it all Nat. It was very similar in style to the third act of all the Star Wars movies, where you have 3 groups of characters all completing their own tasks and contributing towards the endgame. And Varrick escaping hopefully doesn't mean he'll be back again. God help us 😂 And the score was just incredible as always. I look forward to seeing where the story goes next season. Have really enjoyed watching this season with you. It's been a mixed bag for sure, but your thoughts have always been entertaining. Thanks Nat 💛
