FIRST TIME WATCHING: The Conjuring!! (help)

OH BOY! This one was SCARY! But I think I probably deserved it after how easy I had it with Halloween and Scream...

I watched this on Max for those who are curious. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments below :)

Until the next one, stay golden and stay spooky!

I am so late on this but I have never seen a more based opinion on ghosts! I am right there with you, ive seen some stuff and I just don't think you need to be inviting ghosts in

Kubochaan

It had been ages since I've watched this movie but I remembered it exactly like this: super scary and suspenseful at the beginning and as soon as all these religious themes start to enter the plot, it gets kinda ridiculous.

Jules Readner

The comedic timing of the entity in your room to knock over your plaque right before you start a haunting movie just for the lulz was pure content. what a team player.

Jonah Bertorelli

Nat even thou you said the latter part of the movie was not scary, you did seem to jump alot and yell alot during the times you said the movie was not scary. lol

Anthony Curione

If you'd like to add more to the Natmare movies, Sinister as well as the Insidious series are great (also made around the same time as this Conjuring movie)

Xu Yang

The actors who played Ed and Lorraine actually got to meet the real Lorraine Warren. She was also sitting in the audience during the second lecture in the movie. I do wish you would've watched the credits some more, because you get to see some of the real pictures and newspaper articles. I would love it if you could watch the entire conjuring universe (conjuring, Annabelle and nun movies) at some point.

Yoshi D'Haen

yesssss!!

Leisurous

my mom hates ghost and possession movies as she believes she's sensitive to spirits, has dreams that come true, and has witnessed freaky shit in historical places. and she would absolutely disown me if i messed with a ouija

Ariana Mitchell

a tried and true for me, i've seen this and the sequel so many times. i love vera and patrick as ed and lorraine, they are a highlight in the series

Ariana Mitchell

I love the pup sitting on Natalie's lap just like O_O lol made me less scared. Also, I never understood the trope of kids befriending the scary monster/ghost. Me as a kid would run screaming and never be the same if I saw a dead kid pop up behind me in a mirror!!

Hannah Saadallah

I just got back from seeing When Evil Lurks. It is the scariest movie I've seen this year and one of the most shocking of all time. Would recommend putting it on a poll when it comes out, as well as Terrified from the same director.

kikoyito

In celebration of the spooki might I suggest a few films such as thir13en ghosts, dawn of the dead 2004 ( I know zombies are your kryptonite but fear is the point!) The mist (Stephen king also wrote IT the clown) and the autopsy of Jane doe

devin flynn

Could you possibly watch the Oceans Trilogy if you haven't already?

LionBro

Natalie what was that you were eating in your reaction, it was very tasty looking and I want one xD

LightsCameraJake

I'm with you Natalie. I get more scared over paranormal movies than I do ones with a more realistic and plausible premise. I don't believe in the supernatural at all, but I enjoy purposefully leaning into the idea of it for the thrills. So I'll always get more creeped out and spooked over those types of movies (which is a sensation I enjoy) over any movie grounded in reality. Real life is scary enough. If I'm going to be scared for fun, I'd rather be scared by the impossible.

Jomero

Annabelle was originally gifted to Donna, a young nurse, by her mom. When she took it back to her apartment, she and her roommate, Angie, noticed that it would often change positions, and found notes around the apartment reading “help me” in a child’s handwriting. Lou, Angie’s boyfriend, woke up one night, totally frozen, seeing the doll slowly crawl up his body, attempting to strangle him. Donna and Angie reached out to a medium who told them that the doll was possessed by the spirit of a seven-year-old girl named Annabelle Higgins

Alvin Everett

Yes, the Warrens do keep all of the objects they collected in cases, inside their house. Ed died in ‘06 and Lorraine died in ‘19, R.I.P. That room is known as “The Warren Occult Museum”, and is run by Judy Warren and her husband

Alvin Everett

This movie makes me think of the book "Hell House" by Richard Matheson, who also wrote "What dreams may come". I always liked the idea of ghost hunting teams with tech that actually worked and stuff.

Christopher Mcconnell

Please add The Strangers to a natmare poll! One of the most terrifying films I've ever seen but also a great movie in general!!

Julia

there is no helping as Lorraine and Ed said the movie didn't do justice to how actually HORRIFIC it was. If the movie portrayed it as such, it would have been Unrated and that says all you need to know.

Stace

one of my favorite horror movies of ALL time.

Stace

I really do enjoy this movie, it was definitely one of the few that was actually a well told story. That being said, I also think that the ending was more silly than scary lol.

Noctis

I LOVE THIS MOVIE

Alvin Everett

What I really enjoy about when you watch scary movies is that you don’t have to pretend that you like them. You go into it with the pretense that you’re going to hate it so we always get your unfiltered take and I really appreciate that. It’s when you are at your funniest. Not just because you’re scared but because you genuinely have a good sense of humor that you hide from us so you don’t offend people by (often deservingly) roasting tf out of their movies or shows.

Travis

Sorry you had to go through an unpleasant experience for this Natalie, but a lot of your most entertaining reactions are to horror films when you're genuinely scared. You can take solace in the fact that there's only so many Western horror films that are actually scary and you've already watched a lot of them. Once you're past the classics and a few newer films there's just an ocean of crap. Of course, then there is French new wave horror, that is so extreme I wouldn't recommend a lot of it for you, and Asian horror, the best of which is just as scary as the best Western film has to offer if not more so. The Grudge (meaning the Japanese original, NOT the American remake) is terrifying.

Skizane

The Conjuring was good for a PG-13 horror. I prefer the first Insidious film over The Conjuring. It was also directed by James Wan (before The Conjuring), also PG-13, and starred Patrick Wilson (as a different character). Insidious had better scares, arguably better tension-building, and did a masterful job at misdirection so the audience didn't know where or when the scare was coming from. When I saw it in theatre, the audience's reaction to the second big scare was huge -- intensified by the sound system that hit the "big scary sound effect" at precisely the right moment (which admittedly is difficult to replicate outside of the theatre). A woman sitting behind me didn't settle down for a full minute. The tension was at a 9 for the remainder of the movie and it remains the most scared I've been watching a horror movie to this day, and consequently my favourite modern horror film. I hope Natalie watches Insidious -- maybe for next Natmares Season!

Rod Reavern

this movie is pretty mild, exorcism horrors are fairly predictable but i had fun laughing when the sign falling down and your reactions

TokyoLopez

The Last Podcast on the Left had a good breakdown of the Warren’s career. They were out and out grifters with a side hustle in pushing Catholic dogma. They could justify lying because by convincing people that demons were real they were leading them back to the church.

Jacob King

It's time for Conjuring 2 nat....lmao

DustinChecksIn

I was watching with lights off and that plaque falling genuinely scared me!

Arry

I love how Nat's biggest defense against Evil is a Shoo Shoo motion with her hands over her head. When the Zombie Apocalypse begins, I'll take Nat for our survival group. The Shoo-Shoo skill should come in handy.

Powers209

So I'm not much of a horror buff. Though I will say this is one of my favorites. Part of it is because the execution is so good. It's a really well contained ghost/demon story. One that mostly relies on in camera effects and well chosen camera shots and moves. As for the Warrens. Well, I'm both an Atheist and a skeptic. So I don't really believe in much of anything that they claimed to have witnessed. (Yes, they were a real life couple that investigated the paranormal.) Even so though, there's something wonderfully fascinating about their mere existence. It's like some kind of real life Scooby Doo analogue. Knowing that they investigated all sorts of mysteries including the Amityville House (even though that was probably a hoax) is damn fun from a lore perspective. And they really did have a room in their house full of all sorts of supposedly dangerous artifacts, including the Annabelle doll. (Which was actually a Raggedy Anne doll in real life.) All in all, I love this movie, and also the universe that it birthed. yep, this is a cinematic universe! THE CONJURING UNIVERSE! And so if you're interested in seeing more of these kinds of movies, there's a whole slew for you! Me personally, I think that although there's a chronological order to them, the best viewing order is release order. Because that's how the larger universe has been revealed to us fans. And the release order is: The Conjuring Annabelle The Conjuring 2 Annabelle: Creation The Nun The Curse of La Llorona Annabelle Comes Home The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It I can't promise that all or even most of these will be solid. In fact many are a bit chintzy, and at least one I didn't think was good at all. But I still think it's all worth checking. (Especially if you want to not only know more about the Annabelle doll, but know more about what exactly Lorraine Warren saw when that possessed guy touched her. ;))

Nicholas Sulikowski

One good paranormal Youtuber that i watch in The Conjuring subject are sam and colby channel. I know it's paranormal and I don't usually don't believe in but somethings happen that i can't explain. But i try not to get in my mind. But i beleive in god so their is little bit of believe in ghost. i watch this at night so i am so paranoid right now. Good night.!!

Arry

YEAH! I did NOT enjoy this movie. Holy fuck - it was terrifying. I'm with you on the build up being scarier but I was NOT relieved toward the end by the horror. No thanks on all this mess! I've watched one scary as fuck horror movie this month. I'm flat NOT going to dig on the rest of the ones I wind up watching, I bet. BUT I think that I'll be enjoying those on some level at least. This one was nothing but pure terror. It's fuggin' scary! xD lmao, I HOPE that we can watch Child's Play! That one's a different brand of horror, kinda sorta. It's still creepy but it's a hell of lot easier to watch than this. This movie though, was creepy as hell on a whole other level. If you can watch this and smile like you did after it was done, you can totes handle Child's Play 100%. I wussed out about an hour or so into this and turned my bedroom light on, because I had the bright idea of beginning this at 6:15 or so without the light on. I was AOK for the first bit! But once the sun began setting... NOPE! The light had to be flipped back on. xD OH! To top it off, my upstairs neighbor began pounding on their floor at random times throughout the movie but toward the end it became much more frequent. I have no idea why they're making that noise - but it scared me! lol, if I were able I'd go up there and question them but the whole crippled thing is preventing that. lmao, yikes though!

Logan Kerlee

u should think of watching conjuring 2 sometime if not in spooky season some other time. And it was way more easy watching with ur presence rather than watching alone if i would watch myself I would 100% shit myself. I love both movies Watched it as kid and couldn't sleep for week because of the FEAR someone would be watching when i was sleeping. LOL!!

Arry

So I've seen this movie a bunch of times, but only just now watching it again with you, I noticed a tiny detail that I never have before. and that is the noose Lorraine found, before she fell into the basement was the same piece of rope they used to tie her up for the Exorcism. Great Reaction.. I'm so empathic, that if you're not as scared at the end then neither am I.. that plaque falling was just a coinky-dink!

Mister Lou

So much awesomeness with this movie; But what seems to stand out most is the the character development of the Warrens as a couple. They make the movie. I find the events secondary, but still awesome.

Taff Lewis

My sister had a funeral for her 20's for her 30th birthday haha

Kirk Andrew Uhl II

conjuring 1 and 2 are super good. annabelle 1 and 2 are pretty damn good and i like the nun spin off too. the whole franchise is pretty fun. I think there is like 10 movies now with the nun 2 coming out and conjuring 4 in production lolll

Josh R

Ed and Lorraine Warren are proven frauds, one of their cases was Ammityville and the lawyer of the person who committed the murders in that house came forward revealing that the Lutz family got the details of the case off of him and made up the demon story and got Ed and Lorraine Warren involved and then confirmed demonic activity. I'm not dismissing all paranormal investigators but, if you confirm a story that someone involved in the fabrication of the story says is a lie then, you are a fraud.

Charles Semon

This one is a likeable horror movie. First time I saw it I found it intense and crazy! I thought the white sheet splitting in half was super horrifying but... not so much this time. I think Natalie is going to get better at it from watching the end scenes of this movie, when you realize what's in your mind is scarier than what's on the film.

Mannygogou

The irl Warrens were shady at best, but conjuring!verse Warrens are the hottest couple in horror 😮‍💨 nothing but respect for MY mother and father 🫡 One of my favourite movies of one of my least favourite subgenres (supernatural horror). It’s such a well directed movie, but that’s to be expected when it’s James Wan 😌 Pretty sure this movie and Insidious were responsible for the big boom in supernatural movies at the time - same way Scream inspired a bunch of B-list slashers in the early 2000s! Another thing I love about this movie is that all the jump scares are EARNED! It’s not loud noises out of nowhere, it’s always the climax to the previously built up suspense of the scene. You need it to cut the tension and let you relax (allegedly, in Nat’s case) before another scare 🫣 There IS such a thing as a good jumpscare! 😁

Daniel McGuinness

in my opinion while this one is great I believe the conjuring 2 is by far the best/scariest of the 4, the anabelle movies are also great

FateMalone

What you can't see is 100% scarier than what you can

Ben Wheeler

LOL ok I know not good to find joy in the pain of others, but that was the best time I had since you watched Hereditary. I know you believe, but all I can see is you freaking out and your dog giving you the side eye. Glad you find the fun there at the end. Take care and find a funny Halloween movie next time. 😀

Christopher Gray

You may not believe in ghosts, How what about Demons that perpetuate the existence of ghosts?

Taff Lewis

Is Nat gonna watch Midnight Mass??

Edward

I replayed watching the plaque fall a few times... there's was a blurry thing behind Nat... did you see it!!? ...(okay maybe I'm just kidding)

Mannygogou

Did Nat turn around to check her YouTube Plague after the pictures fell off the wall and then blame it on her dog?

Powers209

I find that’s often the way with horror films - as soon as the ghost or malevolent spirit is revealed it kinda loses its power. The scariest parts are always the beginning when the tension is ramping up or, as the Warrens put it, the infestation phase. Still, with the Conjuring I think they got a lot of psychological horror out of the end especially if you’re a parent. Great to watch this with you and a fab reaction as always. I may have to try the hand waving next time my husband makes me watch a horror 😂

Kessa_Brae

So your ghost has me interested in the books it was looking at behind your YouTube plaque? I'm going to say it was looking for a self-help book. I'm sure you don't have the same issues as your ghost. I mean for one, it's dead and most likely not scared of ghosts. Like you are. I'm also going to say... You might be hearing from it more often now. Because I think it might want to be YouTube famous. Who thinks it's a Cowboy ghost? {{Raising Hand}}

Powers209

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but the last scene where Lorraine gets off the phone with the priest and mentions "he wants to discuss a case on Long Island..." is a reference to The Amityville Horror.

Keith Jacobsen

Did not realize it was friday the 13th next friday lol. That makes sense, but id still prefer evil dead

jamie jones

Chucky is NOT a horror film. It's a mislabeled action thriller (And maybe Slasher) and you should not be worried in the least about watching it. And if I dare say so, chucky CAN be watched viewing Chucky as the protagonist as he is the character followed throughout the film. The Conjuring was not bad for a horror film, I have to begrudgingly admit, though it did still have unneeded jump scares, the plot was solid, the execution for the first half of the film was creepy and all the setups I noticed paid off, so I will give it 12 out of 13 stars. (My scale for horror films is different than others.) Loved this reaction and the ringing in my ears from all the screaming is almost gone.

Essero Eson

This was MUCH more like it Nat! Keep it going! Scary reactions are 1/3 of my favorite reactions from you!

Mastervodo

I hear she is watching Friday the 13th next week, because... you know.

Mastervodo

Seeing as there was no poll this week, can i hope the evil dead is next as it was a close second last poll?

jamie jones

I wanted to blame it on the dog (Coda--I think?), but nah...definitely a golden demon.

RabidMango

nice hopefully The Strangers is in the next poll 🙏

AngelAlCapone

The plaque falling wasn't a coincidence lmao.

Cameron Smith

Never separate Nat from her comfort cookie 😊

Darryl Low

nothing is scarier than misplacing my vape

TokyoLopez

Can you not eat before you watch the movies ?

That plaque thing was fucking funny!! omg looool

Andy

I would usually prefer Asian made horror because they are typically scarier in terms of jump scares or creepy atmosphere, but conjuring is an exception

FatLittleButterfly

Natalie thank you so much for eliminating the decision making process from my October movie list

Ksweets

Happy Natmare Feature Friday Nat. This should be a fun one 😊 Damn, Nat. Your YT plaque falling to the floor was really freaky. Glad you had Koda and Ridley to keep you company. And that giant cookie looked amazing. I saw this movie when it first came out and I didn't remember a lot of it, but it didn't spook me as much as I thought it would this time around. I think the second one is probably the best of the trilogy. I had fun watching along with you anyway. Thanks for a great reaction today, and as always for all your awesome work. Hope you've had a brilliant birthday week Nat. Have a great time with your murder mystery today and enjoy your NFL game trip at the weekend. I'll have my fingers crossed for you 💛
