I’m not sure I want to watch this if Natalie gets too upset :/

Hey Nat, I'm few years older than you and I've heard of the "Evil Dead" for years but I never watched it. I enjoy your channel and saw you had it up, so itts Halloween and a 5 dollar prime rental whatever. And I thought to myself ...Ill check it out before I watch your YouTube reaction video...........smh Sidenote, I'm sorry for 'The Exorcist' nobody should watch that movie lol. and btw skip "The Omen" thank me later. Also, whenever you watch "Texas Chainsaw" be ready its darker than Friday the 13 and Halloween that movie is not playing it's crazy and supposedly a "true story" so just a heads up. As for "Evil Dead"................... wtf no really WTF is this, I stopped after 40mins because idk what I'm watching this movie is terrible. Now I do see a lot of things that I think were started here from a directors POV, but the graphics, the acting and even the plot doesn't hold up at all through years like some movies. Anyway, I still got 40+ hours on the rental and gonna try to finish it because it supposed to be a classic but so far, it's a lot closer to stupid than scary even for the early 80's. And don't get me started on tree porn, what is happening ?? lol

The sequels to Evil Dead gravitate towards comedy, and go all for it by the end. Bruce Campbell is super funny and him, as well as the yellow car is in the Spider man movies as well

Thomas Richter

Also, the first saw is definitely a movie you should check out. The sequels are also really good, but they turn up the gore x100 so probably not for you. The other Evil Dead get real bloody, but nowhere near as gross as the first movie, which is why I was recommending skipping the first lol (plus the 2nd I believe is just so much more enjoyable)

kikoyito

Please continue watching horror movies! One month is too short!

kikoyito

this is ashleys origin story.

Ashley

I think the cabin in cabin in the woods is at least in part a reference to Evil Dead. From the cabin itself to that they could have found the Necronomicon but instead they had a ton of other options to find that determined their fate.

Ashley

"This is not an off roading vehicle" Take that back. The Delta 88 is perfect! It appears in nearly every Sam Raimi movie.

Ashley

Also seeing the arc this franchise takes is important IMO. Evil Dead 2 is amazing and arguably better than 1. But seeing Raimi's arc as a director and the trajectory of this series is very interesting.

Ashley

I think its ideal that you had to wait this long to see evil dead. Its a cult classic so it has a lot to love but also maybe doesn't hit as well as most great horror movies do.

Ashley

I think The Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness would be well worth the watch. But with your aversion to the bodily fluids, avoid the series. I enjoyed it, but that has a lot more of that kind of thing for its runtime. I haven't seen the 2013 film or Evil Dead Rise so I can't recommend for or against either.

Verne Nufeld

Congratulations on making through Evil Dead! Part 2 is an interesting case. They retell part 1 so they can continue the story. Its more of a Horror Comedy. It does have some gross out gore, but it is not bad as this one. They lean into the camp. Army of Darkness is my favorite. That one is a Comedy Horror; it has way less gore and scares. More jokes and comedy. Then if you want to continue the Comedy Horror, you should check our Ash Vs the Evil Dead tv show. It has great characters and monsters. Evil Dead 2013 is a return to straight horror. Its fun ride. Evil Dead Rise is also just horror, but with a change of scenery. They have the gore and blood. I'd really only recommend the two remakes if you become a fan of the series and was to see different takes on it. But really, I just want you to watch Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness.

UngawdlyJish

First time I saw this was in highschool I watched it in a computer class I had no hope of passing.

justajester

A few fun facts about the movie: 1. All those P.O.V. shots from the demon outside were from Bruce Cambell and Sam rami putting the camera on a 2x4 and running while holding it between them 2. In the scene where ash is gonna use the chainsaw to dismember the girl it was a real chainsaw with blade still attached 3. That was a real cabin they filmed in and has since been burned down by Sam rami

justajester

That's why evil dead 2 was perfered *THAT SCENE* isn't in it.

justajester

I understand Natalie watching the original Evil Dead first (logical) but I believe that Evil Dead 2 is the most authentic Evil Dead movie. And I think Natalie would enjoy it more, so I'm hoping she follows up with the sequel next Natmares Season. Although I HAVE TO recommend Trick 'r Treat (2007) as the most-wanted Halloween-themed movie to watch. It's a cult classic and everyone who sees it agrees it's the perfect Halloween movie... unfortunately not enough people have seen it, so it's unlikely it'll win a poll -- if it even makes it onto a poll. Trick 'r Treat is the movie I hope Natalie watches on a whim because she's in the mood for a fun Halloween movie! πŸ€žπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

Rod Reavern

I really want to see you compare the second Evil Dead to this one because of very different tone it takes. Also they have some killer shots they pull off with some great camera movement, i was excited to see you react to the mirror scene I love creative gags like that one.

Christopher Mcconnell

You know nat when you think about it Thanksgiving can be kinda of a nightmare so why not keep the natmare train rolling a little longer !πŸ˜…

Rey

Thus ends the greatest holiday of the year :( - Getting reactions to originals that spawned huge franchises has been incredible and now I can't wait for Natmares 2024: Attack of the Dolls <3

Danishprince

Yes, yes and yes to The Quick and the Dead. It's a great movie 🀠

Darryl Low

Lucy Lawless plays the antagonist? Whoa! lol, that's gotta be good!

Logan Kerlee

Very much in the style of Evil Dead 2 but with Ash as a burnout boomer who has seen too much. The ensemble are great and Lucy Lawless is the antagonist.

Jacob King

Everyone is already pointing out that 2 is not as gory so I’ll put in a small recommendation for Mandy which is this but turned up to 100 (also a weirdly beautiful art movie with a great soundtrack and score). For a non Natmare Sam Raimi recommendation, you would love his spaghetti western The Quick and The Dead with Sharon Stone facing off against Russell Crowe, baby Leo DiCaprio and Gene Hackman. It’s a 90s classic that deserves some reactor attention.

Jacob King

I say number two is much more safe for the queezy. And the third film (Army of Darkness) is totally safe. The third is also one of my all time favorite movies. It's just my kind of dumb hilarious goodness.

Cody Steele

The sequel is a lot less gross. But it's such an awesome movie. And is also kind of a remake, kinda.

2 Percent

I saw this movie when I was six. Can't say if I'm okay or not

Tiger Chu

Wtf was this y'all...for real y'all wtf was this

??

Evil Dead 2 is a lot more enjoyable for me than this one, so I really hope you watch it. It’s still gory but it’s probably less graphic than the stop motion scenes that got to you in this.

Colter

It’s honestly in my opinion, funnier and scarier than army. And raimi directed the first episode and executive produced it.

jamie jones

So dang happy you got this one. It's an absolute classic. And if you're wondering, Cabin in the Wood most likely was inspired by this movie in part. Like I feel like The Evil Dead "might" be the original cabin in the woods style horror movie. (Canon has it set in Dearborn, Michigan though, if you're wondering. Not the east coast.) I'm with you on the really amazing sound design, which few if any movies have anything that compare to it. Truly unique. Obviously low budget, but so bizarre the way certain sounds are, that it's truly unsettling, and sells the idea of forces that are beyond what we know to be reality. This movie can be disgusting. Even with the dated effects, this movie went to 11 with how gross it could be. Some of it I laugh at because of how over the top cartoon it can be. In fact, having made amateur films myself, I can just imagine Sam Raimi and his friends and co-workers going ham with the effects and fake blood and fake gore and just having a ball. (Red food dye + corn syrup is the old staple for fake blood, by the way.) But even so, it all gets the job done, and still manages to repulse audiences old and new. I gotta say, I was waiting for your reaction certain scenes. And I loved seeing your wide-eyed, silent reaction to certain gory, freaky moments. But of course, the big one was, the tree one. And you didn't disappoint with your reaction lol. I mean, how else does one react to that? That really doesn't happen in most *sane* movies. It's really out there. This movie, warts and all, is really out there. In fact, the original marketing tagline for it was "The Ultimate Experience In Grueling Terror". This was a big reason why I voted to have you watch it. Because although the rest of the franchise has more money and production, and is also funnier, this one really is a solid albeit low budget pure horror film. That said though, moving forward, the REST of the franchise is much sillier lol. Evil Dead II is basically "splatstick" as opposed to slapstick. A lot of gore, but so many moments that were clearly meant to be laughs. The threequel Army of Darkness was only PG-13, and so it was more comedy than horror, but was nonetheless a ball and worth watching. And then there's the TV series Ash vs. Evil, which is the perfect balance of gore and comedy. There's also the 2013 remake simply called Evil Dead, and the 2023 standalone film Evil Dead Rise. Both of these are more in the pure horror style of the original The Evil Dead. (Though a retcon introduced in Rise has made it that all films and shows are now set in the same universe. More on that much much later.) But I digress, it's all worth watching. The only warning I would give is that, when it comes to the "Ash Saga" we'll call it, only The Evil Dead is serious. (And also the remake and Rise, but that's not the "Ash Saga".) But Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and Ash vs. Evil Dead are all gore + silly silly silly. So....be prepared for THAT lol. (Don't worry, it's fun as hell.) Also, be aware that the actor that plays Ash, Bruce Campbell, has made cameos in most if not ALL Sam Raimi films. Try and find them all! Such as: The wrestling announcer in Spider-Man The snooty usher in Spider-Man 2 The "French" waiter in Spider-Man 3 And in all, I hope you get to watch all of this. Because it all truly is....GROOVY! (You'll get that reference much later.)

Nicholas Sulikowski

AND THEN 2013 EVIL DEAD. WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!

Boticus

PLEASE JUST MAKE IT TO ARMY OF DARKNESS!!!!!!

Boticus

I won't go so far as to say that I hope she doesn't watch it, but instead that she watches everything building up to it first. I think that it'd make for some quality reactions. :)

Logan Kerlee

No I didn't! I don't think I will until Natalie decides whether she will or won't be doing that show. If she will then I'll obviously hold off but if she will then I'll hold out until that happens! :) It's awesome that it carries on after that movie though. :) Does it have a similar sort of feel to it or does it shift quite a bit because it's a show and not a movie and made by someone else?

Logan Kerlee

She hasnt seen any of the other Marvel stuff and skipped a movie or two. She would be just confused. She dont even know who Kang is because she skipped the newest ant man. I personally hope she does not watch it.

LightsCameraJake

Lawson

Groovy.

Steve Mercier

Did you watch the tv show ash vs the evil dead. Its great and it Continues from after army.

jamie jones

lmao, LOVE that bit of the movie! :D

Logan Kerlee

hahaha, that got a laugh out of me as well!

Logan Kerlee

I love that you enjoyed this Natalie! This one's up there for me. Ash is very much the protaganist of this series. lol, I'm kinda disappointed that you don't recognize Bruce Cambell at all! :P He's a great actor who's played a good few characters that are all memorable. I'm in full support of watching the rest of the series. If we go and do that I'll be the happiest camper. Now, if Evil Dead 2 is too much, you MUST watch Army of Darkness! That one's not scary at all, really. It's an excellent movie that's full of laughs. That's honestly the only one of them all that I've wanted to see a reaction for. :) Super makes me happy that you enjoyed Bruce Cambell in this. :) He really is a fantastic actor.

Logan Kerlee

Died laughing at her watching the Tree Rape scene....gooooood times.....good times...πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Diiirk706

Evil Dead 2 is more comedy than Horror actually. It is totally different from this one

lorenzo penco

Thanks everyone for overwhelmingly voting for part 1. Now we just need parts 2 and 3. Such a fun trilogy.

jamie jones

I say it every year... Natmares season is 11 months too short...

Sean

Army of Darkness is such a good one too, a nice little fun ride! THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK

devin flynn

hahahaha, I'm right there with you!! Plus since it isn't horror it can be watched whenever! xD Growing up, I was a huge fan of that movie. :)

Logan Kerlee

lol, proud of you making it through the month! :)

Logan Kerlee

Oh I feel the same as you! I was stoked this year for Natmares! :D This has been excellent. :)

Logan Kerlee

Nat, you must watch the third film in this trilogy, Army of Darkness. It is nothing like the first two films; it's not horror and it's not scary in the slightest, it's a comedy set in medieval times after Ash gets sucked back in time through some kind of portal. Once there, Ash must help the people acquire the Necronomicon and fight off an army of the undead who'll stop at nothing to get it back. It is my favorite comedy, it's full of slapstick humor, macho one liners, an increasingly fed up and pissed off Ash, and all manner of hilarious shenanigans involving puppet and stop-motion skeletons making jokes and getting smashed, chopped, and blown up in all kinds of hilarious ways. At least put it in a poll or two somewhere. I mean, it's a sequel to something you've already seen, that's got to give it more of a shot now, doesn't it?

Skizane

Sad it's not the remake πŸ˜•

LightsCameraJake

Have a wonderful weekend nat πŸ₯‚

Ian

Groovy Edit: also, yes, Evil Dead is the original "cabin in the woods" story.

Boomcity

Yes I'm glad Natmare's is over. I'm not a fan of horror and I am looking forward to some happy fun movies.

Tony Mandler

As someone who voted for Evil Dead 2 because I was worried about how Nat would feel about Evil Dead 1, hearing her call it β€œfun” fills me with relief, excited to watch with you!

Jason Gillman

Happy Natmares Feature Friday Nat. We're ending on a high. You've watched some of the classics this season. It's been amazing for us old-school fans 😊 Looking forward to seeing what you made of the movie. This was a fun reaction Nat. You did well putting up with the gore, and when you shouted "Is that porridge?" I had to laugh. And when you said "He's in moccasins. They have no tread" Damn πŸ˜‚ It was classed as a video nasty here in the UK, and was banned not long after it came out. It would be years before it was officially released in a highly edited form, and then years again before it was released uncut. Us brits were wrapped in cotton wool when it came to horror movies. They were very heavily censored throughout the 80s. Even The Exorcist was banned from tv and home release until 1998. Sam Raimi uses sound so well. When this movie first came out, they just had the sound of wind playing in the theatre speakers before it started. And Bruce Campbell as Ash is Raimi's lucky charm, appearing in pretty much everything he has done. Thanks for an awesome reaction today Nat, and thanks as always for all your great videos this week. Have a brilliant weekend πŸ’›
