Also Oldman's character was a soldier, as evidenced by the pictures on his pad. So it's only natural that he picks a militaristic solution. Whereas Malcolm, though I don't know if it's explicitly mentioned, is more of a scientist.

Marty McGee

Natalie im telling you from now, if you are gonna watch war for the planet of the apes. You need a whole loads of napkins next to you

Hussain Jeragh

Matt Reeves one of the best director out there right now. Directed The Batman as well.

Clinton Brown

I think I saw some graffiti in the city about the death count reaching a billion :(

Yani Dodge

Haha, I recognize him from Person of Interest and Agents of Shield! :P

Yani Dodge

That's a good call out. Mocap is an incredible technology but it's not 'capture and done', it needs quality animators to clean it up and enhance it. I'm sure Serkis gave some incredible performances and reference material, but it wasn't a one man show :)

Yani Dodge

The "Three Lost Astronauts" Easter egg in the first movie is a reference to the three main characters from the 1968 classic original. I wonder if this reboot will ever tell their story. I kinda doubt it, tho. Because that story takes place two thousand years after the events of these new movies.

Gerald Corona

Of the current trilogy, this movie was my favourite of the three. Seeing how the social structure of the apes worked was so fun to watch. Hunting together, fighting together, generally working together, the shifting of power dynamics and ideologies - it only became more of an interesting watch as this movie progressed. I'm very much looking forward to the fourth instalment in the series.

Jules 4 Fools

I think there's this misconception amongst the general audience that the actors are fully responsible for the ape performances, and this idea was definitely perpetuated by Andy Serkis in literally every interview he did for these movies. This isn't true, there is more *manual* animation work and motion capture *re-working* than people realize. I wish more credit was given to the hundreds of artists responsible for bringing these apes to life, who are underpaid and work countless hours of overtime in a thankless industry that exploits them, only to get shafted by the public because there's this idea that "CGI = bad", when it's really just "bad CGI = bad". And most of the time whenever there is "bad CGI", it's because studios ask for too much for too little time/pay (Marvel is famously notorious for this. There several articles about it, just google "Marvel VFX issues"). (Btw this rant is not directed at you, Natalie. Just a personal frustration with the state of things)

Nas

Maurice was my favourite :) He's so sweet.

Chris (darkwater)

Hot take, this is my favorite big budget movie of the 2010s

XanderWhat

If you took notice that the guy (Kirk M. Acevedo plays Carver) who shot Ash (Blue Eye's buddy) at the start is also a guy in Band of Brothers which you have just started to react to lately

JarHead0351

I will fight for gremlins 2 until the end of 2024

Josh R

It honestly kinda irks me when you call them monkeys. Did you not notice that in the first movie, only the bad guys called them monkeys? It's basically derogatory at this point. It'd be like calling dogs "rats". Or, you know, calling humans monkeys... because we're apes.

Shen V

I think Malcolm and Gary Oldman’s character are two sides of the same coin. Both have experienced incredible and loss and think “I may as well do this thing for the betterment of humanity even if it kills me” With Malcolm it was taking to the apes Gary Oldman’s was sacrificing himself to kill the apes But it’s interesting to note that Malcolm still had his son, while Oldman lost his entire family, leaving him nothing left to lose

Daniel McGuinness

Screaming because I also predicted Kerri Russell’s daughters name being Sarah 😭😭 Truly the most generic name, Sarah I’m so sorry 🫡

Daniel McGuinness

Great reactions! The first movie is fine but this one is on a whole other level. This 10 year old movie also looks better than most modern "blockbusters", really strong directing by Matt Reeves.

Berry

"Human work" feeling the old wounds on his side. "Human work!" tracing the scar on his face...

Mannygogou

There's probably also a lot of zoo animals that got set free by humans in the final days. Maybe not enough to set up breeding populations, and maybe they're ill-adapted to the environment, but there could be tigers, elephants, who knows what all wandering around.

Kevin Mowery

She caught it, but Maurice said 10 winters and they haven't seen any humans the last two, so maybe there aren't any humans left. It seemed like Nat got confused and rather than thinking he meant the last two winters, he meant something about the last two humans. I think she also might have missed that after the opening bit said they expected up to 150 million dead, the next (revised) figure was that the Simian Flu had a 1 in 500 chance of survival. So the global population of humans is probably under 16 million.

Kevin Mowery

Right! I literally thought to myself "Sarah" when I first saw this too, I was very proud of myself that I guessed it, lol.

Annie519

Oh ps hope you’re feeling better. You were feeling super run down

Troymk1

So weird. I only support one other movie reactors and they also released this this very week. Watching it with you as I watched the first one with ya :) I saw this at the theater but don’t remember it at all. So looking forward to revisit this !

Troymk1

Also The Last of Us

Brian

Watch again. She was talking about the 4th one when she mentioned Serkis wasn’t in it.

Brian

We celebrate Joe Toye day in this household

Brian

When you said you were guessing the name was "Sarah" I know what you mean. If it's not The Rock in San Andreas, Will Smith in iRobot, David Harbour in Stranger Things, if you're mourning a dead daughter on TV, chances are her name is going to be "Sarah". then you can have that epic dramatic scene where someone asks "What was her name?" then the hero can have an emotional response like "Sarah... Her name was Sarah."

Mister Lou

That movie was way better than I remember. Really enjoyed the gorilla warfare.

Slick447

You should stop APING other people's reactions, Nat! :D

Keith Jacobsen

Nat, I have to hand it to you, I went BANANAS over that intro. You really tapped into something primal there. But enough apeing around. It's time to Caesar the day and settle in for a fun new reaction! Orangutan.

Slick447

Always excited for Matt Reeves movies. Also anything with Gary Oldman

Ankush

I'm only on the intro and she's calling them monkeys. Might have an annuerism

Eric Wallace

APE NO KILL APE 🦧 🦍

TokyoLopez

Hey! 🙂 okay so I gotta find my copy... let's see...

Mannygogou

Great reaction Natalie :) you said in the outro that Andy Serkis was not in the 3. apes movie. That's not true at all. maybe you mend the 4. upcoming apes movie ?

Peter Heine

How did they find these horses? Literally horses are everywhere. 🤣

Jason Dolan

Natalie - is she dying? About a minute later - oh she’s giving birth. Accurate.

Jason Dolan

To be fair the Grizzly could have migrated south with very little human interference

Jason Dolan

Natalie is right - first movie should have been Dawn, second movie should have been War and third movie should have been Rise.

Jason Dolan

Andy Serkis is an absolute master and he doesn't get recognition he deserves.

LJ Mickey

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie as much as you did!! Ceasar is one of my favorite fictional characters and this is my favorite movie out of the trilogy, only beating the 3rd one by a very small margin :) btw it looked like you missed a line in the beginning where Maurice mentioned its been 10 winters since it all started, so this movie actually takes places 10 years after the first one! (maybe you did actually catch that line tho, in that case my bad hahah)

Tentomushi

I just looked and that Monkey Counter was a nice touch 👏

Mike Hell

Heck yeah Joe Toye say his name 👍

Mike Hell

10 years into the apocalypse Nat, I'm sure a lot in the ecosystem changed haha

Ian

Agreed! She plays the role in all three of them.

Logan Kerlee

I really enjoyed this movie as well! I enjoyed the first one more but this is still a very solid movie! This trilogy as a whole is pretty top tier. It's difficult for me to think of a better one. :) I also really appreciate the use of shadow and darkness in this film. Totally is used well and adds to each scene that it's used in. It's so impressive, really! I'm stoked that filmmakers use it to illustrate things, still. Makes me happy! As usual, I'm very excited and looking forward to the next film in the series. :) Hope that you're doing well, Nat!

Logan Kerlee

The only thing that annoyed me about this one is that they cast the great Judy Greer as Cornelia and she had no lines and not even much screen time for physical acting, even.

Kevin Mowery

I don’t know if you recognized Carver but he’s in Band of Brothers (and is a Big Bad in a later season of Arrow)

Ben Wheeler

I am glad you continued with this trilogy Nat. Now you are invested! Gotta see how it ends!

Mastervodo

The last two films in this series were directed by Matt Reeves who also directed The Batman (2022) and is where he began to get his reputation as a really good director because of their quality

Herb123

I think Nat did. Check out her Youtube edit for RISE 😄

Darryl Low

Also "War..", ie, part 3 is my favorite in the trilogy. Andy Serkis is of course still amazing, Maurice plays a bigger role, and we see a new character that you'll definitely love, he's that adorable.

Andy

Great that this won the poll, and you weren't maybe totally discouraged from watching this after your impression of "Rise...". As a standalone maybe the 1st one was not strong, but as part 1 of the trilogy it's very significant, as you also remark in the end.

Andy

it honestly makes sense for the humans to act dumb in this world. I believe it will explain why the humans IQ is dumbing down in WAR. lol

Walter Lopez

No "quit apeing around"... 🐒🐒🐒

Baggie Mark

"quit monkeying around" - classic

Jules 4 Fools

This is probably my favorite of the trilogy, so I'm glad you liked it! BUT OMG still calling them monkeys? I guess you didn't read the comments on the last film...

Mike Hell

happy friday nat hope youre having a wonderful week , i forgot it was friday christmas has thrown me this year lol like many say this is the best one of the three and looking forward to watching in a couple of hours :) until then just wanna wish you a wonderful weekend and a happy new year

Ian

I’ve had the same conversation about the names of the first two movies being reversed. I think the first movie should’ve been called “Dawn”

Ben Wheeler

It's crazy how Talented Andy Serkis is with his stuido "The Imaginarium Studio" which specializes in Mo Cap and founded by him, after his role as Smeagol in Lord of the Rings, to push the limits of Mo Cap live performance CGI. The fact that a lot of the main on screen apes are Mo Capped and voiced by different actors. It's all a live acted performance with a CGI mesh over it. With Serkis in the main role as Ceasar. It's crazy good.

LightsCameraJake

One of my favorite trilogies. Matt Reeves came in with this one and absolutely took it to another level.

doesn’t matter

Really happy that you loved it! It's such a strong sequel and imo the best entry in the trilogy - Excited to see your reaction to the final one and when it releases, the upcoming one as well <3

Danishprince

Happy Furry Feature Friday Nat. Hope you've had a good week. Been looking forward to watching this one with you. It's definitely my favourite of the 3 movies. You're thumbnail today is awesome Nat, as was your intro. You're getting to grips with the "cheeky monkey" phrase 😊 Really enjoyed watching this movie with you today Nat. You made me laugh (Grizzly Bears! Let it go already 😂) and cry. It is an emotional movie, with the cgi really capturing so much of the actor's performances. I remember watching this at the cinema, and those opening and closing frames of Caesar's eyes blowing me away. Hard to believe that it's not a living creature. I love Michael Giacchino's score too. Sinister, moving and epic, especially at the end as Caesar walks down the stairs, almost Christ-like after dying and being resurrected, and his people asking for forgiveness. I look forward to watching the 3rd one with you when you get to it. Thanks for an amazing reaction today Nat, and as always, thanks for all your awesome work this week. Have a brilliant weekend, and a Happy New Year to you, Tyler and your family 💛
