FIRST TIME WATCHING: Leave the World Behind

Hey folks!

Here's the first feature for the week. There's no edited intro or outro for this one as I'm still working on that. These reactions that are for my second channel will likely be less formal over here, without the typical intro/outro you're used to seeing.

Looking forward to diving into another movie with you all tomorrow! For those who are curious, this film is on Netflix.

As always, thank you so much for your support here on Patreon. Until the next one, have a great weekend and stay golden!

I know there are some bad reviews but I think It was trying to achieve something that's better written. It's so uncommon for movies to allow for silence and stillness during the unfolding of uncertainty. This movie captures this, there are no big warnings or quick conversations, its all that silent torture of building background tension. With that being said, G.H.'s daughter is quite annoying, with no clear motivation, inconsistent perspectives and hypocritical responses. Also I like that directors are moving in new creative directions.

Natasha

This was the most painful 2 hours of my life so far, worse than when I broke my ankle. Could never have finished this hot garbage if I didn't watch it along with Nat, LOL.

Jorreca

That was basically a Black Mirror episode. I liked some aspects of it, the premise is probably the most scary bit because it sounds completely believable with the level of paranoia and mistrust in American society nowadays. Honestly the biggest scare for me though, was when the dogs started barking the first time, I thought it was in the movie and immediately was like, "Oh shit, if the dogs are barking something bad is coming, OH SHIT, they don't even have dogs, this must be really bad!" And then I realized it was Nat's dogs lol

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Appreciate the recap, also thank you for the condolences.

Logan Kerlee

The Invitation (2015) is really good. I hope Nat watches it on NATMARE Season lol

Walter Lopez

I'm very Sorry to hear that bro. No, Its not worth it. SPOILER: The USA gets attacked by Rogue Armed Forces and it turns into a civil war except we don't see any of that. We just get Big Actors running around like headless chickens trying to figure out what is happening because they are in a house in an island just outside of New York.

Walter Lopez

I was surprised Nat wasn’t comfortable with the pacing and camera angles. They didn’t bother me much but I understand. I thought the movie was brilliant. Can’t wait to hear your full opinion.

Marcus Powell

Ya'll that've watched this - is the movie worth seeing? I'm in a pretty dark headspace at the moment - my mom died yesterday and I'm not wanting to watch anything involving family deaths. Don't worry about spoiling it for me, is this something that I should be watching right now?

Logan Kerlee

Yeah, this movie was a mess. Way too much budget for what is essentially a crappy film student project. Was there even a point? It's all weird angles and lazy philosphizing. Funny thing, like Nat I too was mildly confused by how much Kevin Bacon and Ethan Hawke look alike and I think this is the first movie they're together in one scene. BUT! I think they filmed their parts separately because they are never in the same shot except a very weird looking (CGI?) panning shot. For most other shots I think they used a stand-in for Kevin Bacon, you only saw his hand or the back of his head, it was super distracting for me.

Berry

I'm at least 30 min in and I agree with Nat. This is painful. lol

Boomcity

Great reaction to whatever this was lol. If you want to see a slow burn thriller done extremely well watch ‘The Invitation’ (2015). The tension builds wonderfully, and the crumbs of what is going on are perfectly spread out…until an incredible ending. It also stars hotter Daario from G.o.T. if you need another reason to watch.

Brian

I’d already watched Homecoming, so I was prepared for the camerawork. Apparently the book is even more ambiguous and that’s intentional. You don’t know because you wouldn’t know. That I actually like. But the film is a mess. It’s super cringe and the human interactions don’t make sense. And yet for whatever reason it’s the kind of train wreck I enjoy.

Byron

At 2:16 in the reaction, Nat says "New York!" and sounds like Linda Blair from the Exorcist or Palpatine.

Ian Cano

Natalie, i'm so used to your intros and outros .you're so funny and i love to hear your thoughts after the movies. this one is a movie i was avoiding and wouldn't have seen this otherwise, but i figured why not all of us suffer through it together? Lol. overall, it was bad dialogue and slow moving. There was really no action, but you need to see 10 Clover Lane to see that type of movie can work well. I could have written a better script Some scenes could've been cut shorter and deleted. I liked both the dads, the two kids. i could've done without Julia Roberts and the hostile daughter. Rose gave me Ellie vibes from the Last of Us. i'd like to see a sequel loaded with action. This one was very frustrating, but it is a good set up for a sequel .

Beth Brown

Whomever wrote and directed this movie, should find another career. I cringed so hard my ancestors felt it😵‍💫

LightsCameraJake

Nat, we don't see it very often but I love seeing your "Uh oh, this is a bad movie." face. 🤣🤣

Keith Jacobsen

WTF did I just watch? That was a pretentious sizzle reel from a director trying to be Jordan Peele.

Sam Kimpton

I’ve been looking for an excuse to check this out because I’ve ALSO heard a lot of (mostly negative) chatter about it, and… yeah 😬😅 The little girl wanting to know what happened to Ross and Rachel throughout this whole apocalypse is the most real tbh x

Daniel McGuinness

OMG that was one strange movie, surprising considering the cast.. very strange 🤔 😕

Baggie Mark

Yea this movie was terrible, the whole thing with the animals is what pushed me over the edge about how absurd it all is.

Firewalker

the animals are such a huge part of the movie’s atmosphere but essentially do nothing that affects the actual story. And the answer to why they’re acting weird is such a small throw away line about something throwing off migratory patterns of birds and distrusting animals. That’s the sound they keep hearing which is meant to be like a Havana Syndrome weapon or HAARP. But also the director/writer (who is a fucking hack IMHO) said it has something to do with like a peaceful prey animal becoming dangerous when things are going wrong or some such nonsense. Also nature warning the people that something is deeply wrong. It’s dumb.

djKENTO

I learned after watching that Obama might have imputed some ideas for this movie I feel I understand it more.

TuvixLogic

I can’t stand Sam Esmail’s work generally but I had a good time watching this. Not because I thought it was good, but because I thought it was absurd in the best way. Nobody acts like a human being in this. It’s like the leftist conspiracy version of The Happening. Acting is about the same too. And when I found out this was produced by the Obama’s I couldn’t stop laughing. Of all the things to put your money into… WOOF. At least they didn’t have to worry about Box Office I guess…

djKENTO

Happy we’re getting more movies. Too bad you wiffed it on this choice 😂. Recommend watching Sicario to get this bad movie taste out of your mouth

Bryan Bryan

OK. Lots of thoughts on this one, and I usually just go for a few one-liners or puns. I don't think I have ever watched a reaction to a movie by Nat where she was so actively disliking it. And I think I've watched almost everything Nat has done, Patreon version, so no creative editing to excise the distaste. Now is that bad? No! I'd rather Nat be truthful and honest in reactions, rather than put on a "brave face" or try and be positive when she feels the opposite. So - don't change anything Nat! WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THE DEER!?!? This movie reminded me of the movie "Closer" in the way it was filmed. A small number of people in related scenes where they break up into pairs (most of the time) and interact with each other, just talking. A lot. Without a stripper Natalie Portman. But, still included a Julia Roberts. Like, this movie could be adapted to a play easily. Not that it will. You could never get that many deer on stage. I was UNCOMFY during the "Too Close ~ Next" scene. And I do not get uncomfy often. VERY UNCOMFY! I STILL WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE DEAL IS WITH THE DEER!?! SOMEONE TELL ME! Finally, it took me a while to recognize The Last Avenger/Guardian of the Galaxy Kevin Norwood Bacon, (65), been acting for at least 46 years now. Seems right that he would be in this movie.

Mastervodo

The reason I watched this movie was because of the scene with the Arabic letter cause I thought it was one of those movies were Arabs are the bad people cause I thought we already got over that😅 Also people were making such a big deal about this movie especially since Obama is involved in it but it was just a generic ok movie with not that much going on But it was really fun watching this movie again with you!

Malak☆ملاك

This is definitely a hate it or love it kind of movie. I actually enjoyed the slow burn on this one and how a lot of the hidden or even unhidden messaging makes sense in today's climate.

AlimarM

This is clearly not your style, sometimes you should look up the Director before picking a film. Sam Ismail has a specific style.

MrMorales

Already seen it and it is not worth a rewatch unless it was a Mystery Science Theater type of watch with heckling and making fun of it all the way through. Love the content Nat

Anthony Curione

Damn I was ready for planet of the apes finale. It's not on Netflix so won't be tomorrow either.

Inhale Burrito

Wasn't bad, Julia Roberts dancing was worth it though...lol

José R. Colón

Haven't heard of this one before so excited to see what it's about :D

Danishprince

Happy Thursday Nat. Always look forward to watching anything apocalyptic with you ha ha Excited for this new format that you're trying this year. It's going to be something different and cool, and I'm looking forward to seeing your edit for your 2nd channel 😊 I really enjoyed this movie a lot. I know you had problems with the pacing Nat, but when in most modern day movies when every 2 second shot is 1 second too long, the old-school approach was perfect for this movie and this story. Taking it's time to set up the characters and the mystery, giving hints at what's going on, and keeping you on edge. It was very Hitchcockian in style with it's camerawork and sound design. And the music score intrigued me with the very abrupt ending to each cue. I laughed at you mixing up your Ethan Hawks with your Kevin Bacons Nat, and then you shouting out he was a Dallas Cowboys fan. OMG! 😂 You'll definitely be fine in an emergency with your Koda and Ridley early warning system 😊 Thanks for watching this movie, and thanks for a great video today Nat 💛
