Doc Roe was with Easy Company through all the combat they saw in the war. That means that with just about every soldier who was killed or wounded, Doc Roe was as deeply involved except that soldier himself. It marked him deeply. One truly unfair, and stupid, aspect of serving as a medic was that some bureaucrat in Washington decided that since medics didn't carry weapons, that made them noncombatants, and declared them ineligible for combat pay. So they were paid less than the men they were taking the greatest risks to save. Watching the mortar crews always takes me back - in the Marine Corps in the '70s I was a mortarman, a gunner on exactly the same type of mortar they used here (one of my platoon's three mortars was even made during WW2, according to its data plate. The other two were new - they dated from 1955.)

2024-01-31 01:53:05 +0000 UTCLoving rewatching the series with you. I think it's great how many huge actors have tiny roles in this series. Christianson in the early episodes was Michael Fasbender, Jimmy Fallon in this one, James Mcavoy, a VERY young Tom Hardy soon. It's a tough road ahead but it's an incredible collection of work.

2024-01-25 22:28:03 +0000 UTCIt didn't make it into the episode, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Guarnere was patrolling a very thinly covered part of the line and using a motorcycle to move between different troops and check in with them when a sniper hit his motorcycle, he crashed and broke his leg... he then found out he would likely be reassigned to a new unit and decided to go awol and break out of the hospital to rejoin the company before they could move out... I also believe because of that he was suppose to be demoted as a punishment but they paperwork basically never got there in time so he continued on at his current rank lol

2024-01-25 22:24:08 +0000 UTCIt's hard to recognize Jimmy Fallon when he's not cracking up in the middle of a scene.

2024-01-24 15:57:30 +0000 UTCYou mentioned that next week you were thinking of either doing 2 Band of Brothers episodes and 1 movie or vice versa. Please do the 2 Band of Brothers episodes. Episodes 6 & 7 really do go together in a lot of ways.

2024-01-24 14:43:43 +0000 UTCThe mirroring of the Winter's storyline throughout this episode was brilliant. Going from a leader of men on the front to a leader from behind the scenes. On the train seeing the horrors of war in everyday people. And even going from a hot bath to being thrust into the frigid area of Bastogne. keep up the good work, these next few episodes are intense.

2024-01-24 04:12:54 +0000 UTCThe scene when Moose was shot by the nervous sentry was one of the most shocking moments of the entire series for me. So awful and senseless. Moose was shaping up to be a very good commander for Easy and then he's taken out and they get "Foxhole Norman" Dike. You'll see more of him coming up. It was also an interesting scene to see Doc Roe yelling at Winters and Welsh for fumbling things with with the morphine. The fact that they probably gave him too much PLUS they didn't attach the syrettes to his jacket to let Roe know how much he'd had. My impression was that this was Welsh's fuckup more than Winters' but it was just so startling to see Winters getting scolded by someone below him in rank. "You are officers, you are grownups, you oughta know!" And you were so busy squinting at Jimmy Fallon you might have missed just about my favorite Winters line. Jimmy Fallon says, "You guys are gonna be surrounded." and Winters calmly replies. "We're paratroopers, Lieutenant. We're supposed to be surrounded."

2024-01-24 01:57:48 +0000 UTCWar dramas are always hit-or-miss for me because a lot of them can get so depressing, as expected, but it also reminds me that even the smallest decision, like the one made by Lt Rice at the end deciding to bring ammo without being ordered to, can save so many lives down the line I then choked 3 seconds later when I ALSO realised it was JIMMY FALLON??? π Why did those close-ups on the company members at the end feel like weβre not gonna see some of them againβ¦. π

2024-01-24 01:46:23 +0000 UTCThis show is amazing. I'm very grateful to all who serve and served. It's something that I'll never be able to do. lmao, when your SO tells you to get up, you get up! xD I never had the impression of anything horror or horror related when watcgubg this. Yes, I was scared for the soldiers but never to the point of terror or being terrified. The reason for this wasn't because I didn't care about the soldiers, it was because I had an understanding of military strategy. lmao, yup! That was Jimmy Fallon! xD I'm glad that you enjoyed the episode. We're halfway through the series, now! :) Very happy that we're watching this. One of my top favorite shows, ever made!

2024-01-24 00:37:03 +0000 UTCoh also the relationship between an officer and his orderly was the inspiration for the relationship between Frodo and Sam in Lord of the Rings. It was based on Tolkienβs relationship with his orderly during WW1

2024-01-23 23:50:05 +0000 UTCTom's direction certainly embiggened the episode for me, I can tell you that much.

2024-01-23 22:02:05 +0000 UTCSS were Nazi loyalist units. Hard core, special forces given the best training and equipment.

2024-01-23 20:35:07 +0000 UTCMy favorite quote of the episodeβ¦βWeβre paratroopers, weβre used to being surrounded.β

2024-01-23 18:44:22 +0000 UTCThey were commenting on the fact that they were SS to give the expectation that these are in fact the Nazis, where as the German army was mainly full of conscripts and enlisted men not directly tied to Hitlers chain of command. The SS are directly responsible for all the war crimes tied to Hitlers "final solution"

2024-01-23 18:28:03 +0000 UTCHello Natalie and everyone here. I always thought it would have been a great sound design choice for a handful of Winters report scenes to have been silent with faint/distant yells to take some form of action or combat maneuver and faint/distant crys for the wounded. Every keystroke would represent small arms fire and be visualized by the audience through the muzzle flashes. Spaces could be hand grenade/motar explosions and racking the type writer back to the left could have represented an artillery shell. I don't know why, but I always thought that would have been a neat idea.

2024-01-23 18:26:52 +0000 UTCI'm not sure if I'm more thrown, in retrospect, by him popping up here or in Almost Famous.
Jeff K
2024-01-23 18:24:40 +0000 UTCI think they were commenting on the fact that they were SS, because the German army is the German army, but the SS is the Naziβs army, and supposedly elite like themselves. The SS were also responsible for much of the warcrimes, and at this point their reputation may have preceded them. (Feel free to correct me if Iβm wrong, Iβm no expert)

2024-01-23 18:04:24 +0000 UTCHi Nat, did you notice when your were watching any battle scenes your shoulders hunched up? You looked so tense lol..

2024-01-23 17:46:33 +0000 UTCHappy Tuesday Nat. We've got our orders. Let's get going. Tom Hanks definitely added some incredible touches in his direction of this episode, putting you in the thick of it with plenty of handheld POV, but also some great dissolves. Last week it felt like Winters was very much in the background, but you knew he was doing his thing. This week it was very much his show, taking the lead of the story, and on the battlefront. I was waiting for you to guess baby Jimmy Fallon. I recognised him straight away, and I could see you smirkingly knew it was him he he π I don't think that's a word but I'm going with it π We are halfway home Nat. Look forward to the next one. Thanks for another awesome reaction today π
