Original Movie: Wonka

Comments

I loved this movie, it was hands down my favorite movie of 2023!

Lucile Byrd

When I saw the trailer for this I thought it was going to be bad and had no intentions of seeing it, but then a movie podcast I listen to were so about it. I saw it in theaters and thought it was so delightful! I told everyone I could that it was great. My brother texted me one night and said he watched it and that it was one of the worst movies he had ever seen and he was offended that he payed money for it. He said that it was insane that I liked it. When I saw you were watching it I was really hoping you would like it too and I'm glad you did!

Christopher Mcconnell

This movie was awesome!

Daylin Harris

In the opening number, Willy Wonka dropped his last coin down a drain. In the 1971 movie, Charlie finds a coin in the drain that allows him to buy the chocolate bar with the golden ticket in it.

Fun fact… chocolate doesn’t go stale the way you think of it. It can change, age, but it’s safe to eat old chocolate.

I need Nat to watch Paddington 1&2. They take the heartfelt comedy of Wonka and dial it up to 11. Compared to Paddington 2 Wonka is as sincere as an Adam Sandler movie

George Baxter

Nat is the queen of accidentally watching musicals lol

Tonally it doesn't feel quite like a prequel to the Gene Wilder movie. (Though much moreso than the Depp one.) He also seems way more advanced at this point than he was in the original. (In terms of what his candies could do, or what he could do with them.)

Troy B.

Me too, my only real 'gripe' (and it's a minor one) is that the movie seems to imply that Wonka had all of his quirks and mannerisms right out of the gate and didn't develop them as he got older and/or as a way to troll people (the latter of which is what I thought was the case in the original movie.)

Troy B.

Yeah, I don't "own" a ton of digital movies, and am not sure if I want this to be one of them. i've seen it once and didn't hate it, but... eh. Maybe i'll wait for it to release on HBO Max and get a month of that service for ten bucks.

Troy B.

I watched it in the theater and didn't really like it, just cuz I didn't know what the tone was going to be. Wasn't expecting a playful musical. I've re-watched it a couple of times actually, and it's soo freakin delightful. I think this will stand the test of time. Everyone is adorable, even the villains loool.

Andy

This was adorable! Really enjoyed watching it with you, too!

Jules Readner

I'm glad they chose to do a prequel to Gene Wilders Willy Wonka and not Johnny Depps.

I hope the Unknown is in this one

Kelvin

Perfect timing.
