While a good story, imaginative production and exemplary acting go a long way - it's rather hard to keep the absurdities from drawing you out of the fantasy. And I don't just mean the impossible hybrid animals and sky-high gondolas. For instance, every other woman on the street is dressed in proper Victorian fashion while Bella roams around freely and enters bars and restaurants for the rich in wisps of clothing without anyone seeming to notice. If that is allowed in this world, then why aren't more women doing it? And if Duncan had asked the next logical question - Who did you give the money to? - when Bella said she gave it to someone so they could give to the poor, then it might have been recovered from the shipping company's employees. I know, I know, it's a fantasy, yada-yada-yada, but it was very distracting for me.

2024-03-26 14:34:11 +0000 UTCI really thought they were going to put God's brain into the General and give him a new life without his scarring. That would also have been a perfect setup for a sequel.

2024-03-26 14:14:30 +0000 UTCyou're literally the exact type of person this movie is criticizing

2024-03-23 03:46:44 +0000 UTCSecond time watching this with your reaction and had just as much fun. I got pretty emotional the first time around as I felt so bad for her character being taken advantage of by Duncan, the brothel house "mother," and the general. But this time around appreciated her agency throughout the movie. Really amazing metaphor about life, womanhood, and humanity.

2024-03-16 20:49:18 +0000 UTCdude yessss. Both movies are about a woman thrown into the world trying to discover where they fit

2024-03-16 20:45:17 +0000 UTCI think it's incredibly ironic that even though you actually watched the movie, and saw the different types of people that can exist, including the Max McCandles character who was perfectly fine with Bella's sexual history, you choose to be Duncan Wedderburn. Just like Duncan's exist IRL (like yourself), so do Max's (like me). IDC what someone's history is, I only care about who they are with me, like Max.

2024-03-16 05:17:18 +0000 UTCI'm gonna have to agree with Chris. You clearly missed the point of the movie and your comment is insanely offputting

2024-03-12 20:25:04 +0000 UTCMan, that was the weirdest movie I've seen in a looooong time. I think I'm going to give it a second watch as I was so wowed by the production design that I think some of the humor blew past me. It was still very funny, despite there being about twenty minutes of Emma Stone's softcore porn inserted into the film. The bulldog's head grafted onto the chicken's body got a big absurdist laugh out of me. Very enjoyable film.

2024-03-11 22:00:18 +0000 UTCSometimes thoughts pop into a person's head that don't really need to presented to other people, better kept to themselves whether they are right or wrong.. I think what you just said was probably one of those thoughts.

2024-03-11 21:58:53 +0000 UTCFrom a professional standpoint Emma Stone did an incredible job for what it was supposed to be, subject matter wise it was very off putting, no husband wants a wife that's been with everybody and anybody 🤷

2024-03-11 21:19:05 +0000 UTCI’d heard good things about this movie (I mean it won 5 BAFTAs hello) but I knew pretty much nothing about it - from all the stills I’d seen of Willem Dafoe, and Emma’s performance made me think this was like a “Frankenstein makes his own Frankenstein” kind of movie 😅 Which I guess in some ways it is. But the idea of plunging a full grown person into the world without any of baggage from childhood, or prejudices and shame you pick up along the way as you grow up in “polite society”, and seeing how they act and the conclusions they come to is intriguing, warming and heartbreaking in their own way. Basically when everything else is stripped away, people always inevitably have the innate desire to be kind x

2024-03-11 02:29:31 +0000 UTCLoved to experience this with you! It's really sad that Barbie was "the feminist movie of the year" while this movie exists. Great concept, script and execution!

2024-03-10 14:45:21 +0000 UTCThe comedy is darker in this, of course, but I really saw a strong connection to Barbie, believe it or not. God certainly moves and mysterious ways, but was ultimately very good in his own way. Billie Eilish's "What Was I Made For" from Barbie, & especially her performance at the Grammys feels strangely right for this. Natalie, you give us so much. Reactions may not be what you were made for, but i've certainly never encountered anyone as uniquely great at it as you.

2024-03-10 10:17:19 +0000 UTCI know there's schedule but would you consider watching Hidden Figures for Woman's History Month?
Natasha
2024-03-09 13:53:24 +0000 UTCReally enjoyed the reaction. There might be such a thing as going in too blind? But I liked seeing you work out the premise. The thing I loved most in this film was the set decoration and the costumes. Emma Stone is obviously incredible and if you haven’t seen Maniac (2018) that should be on your list it’s in a similar genre space but very different. Also The Favourite is great but a much more normal film.

2024-03-09 06:41:09 +0000 UTCIf that's what she is, she's also the princess who's done the most fucking. xD

2024-03-09 05:56:35 +0000 UTCHonestly - it's shocking that this movie would be on Disney+! I understand that Europe's selection of films to watch on there may be a bit different but this is NOT something that I'd ever suspect the big mouse would ever support! xD hahaha

2024-03-09 05:53:53 +0000 UTCI've got ZERO idea what movie this is Natalie. xD I trust that I'll wind up enjoying it though. This movie feels extremely strange. I've got no clue what's going on, here. What the hell are you having me watch Natalie? xD This is so damn strange. This was an amazing movie! I'm grateful that I was able to enjoy this tonight. Thank you for doing this reaction, Natalie! Watching this was definitely eye opening and while also being very entertaining. Shocking, yet fun. Dark yet bright. Each of the characters played their parts so well! I don't have a favorite character but I admired each of the cast members. They all did fantastic jobs playing their roles! Willem Dafoe did an amazing job playing his character. I did grow sick of him toward the end but initially I admired the character. Emma Stone played her role incredibly well, too. At many times I felt for her character and her struggles within the movie. I'm having a hard time describing negative feelings for the movie aside from the obvious darker aspects that I'm morally against. Those are just things that I'm opposed to as a person, the film itself was amazingly bizarre and fun. I'm the opposite to you, Natalie. I think logically before emotionally. I sometimes wish that I had the ability to think emotionally but eventually that ends and I'm back to where I began. So yeah! Very strange, odd, dark and bizarre yet fun movie. Very happy that I watched it. Thank you for reacting to this! It was a treat.

2024-03-09 05:51:44 +0000 UTCWow just wow. This movie was so damn good. I'm in love with it. It was like a Modern Day Frankenstein to me. It was so stranger, weird, bizarre, and just beautifully well done. The wardrobe, hair & makeup in this movie was just insane if I it doesn't win a Oscar for those category's I'm going to be so mad lol Watching movies with you that are sometimes also my first like this movie is just incredible treat. Thank you Nat.

2024-03-08 23:36:22 +0000 UTCLove the video! If you want a showcase for Margaret Qualley and incredible New York talent, Fosse/Verdon is a great series.

2024-03-08 21:39:32 +0000 UTCIf one has read a lot of science fiction short stories and old timey fairy tales, this movie is actually not that strange as some people seem to find it. I mean yeah there’s a lot of sex, but it’s basically a fairy tale. It kinda reminds me of Shape of Water for that reason.
Andy
2024-03-08 21:38:39 +0000 UTCI loved this movie. It is definitely strange but that makes it feel like no matter what setting the message will always be the same. It is about nature vs nurture, societal pressure, and a woman making her way through it all. Not to mention the brilliant acting of course!

2024-03-08 20:43:09 +0000 UTCThis film is great. Nat's response is spot on. More Oscar movies please. Past Lives, The Holdovers, Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest when it streams.

2024-03-08 19:53:36 +0000 UTCOMG Nat, what on earth was that?... it has to be the strangest 2 1/2 hours of my life... 😵💫 I've spent the whole film with a puzzled look on my face🤪😜. No way I would have made it to the end without your commentary.

2024-03-08 17:44:36 +0000 UTCSooooo happy you enjoyed it. I absolutely loved this movie and provided so much empowerment that I’ve never experienced from a movie. Reception from this film is pretty 50/50, you either get it or you don’t so I was so anxious for your thoughts!!

2024-03-08 17:30:38 +0000 UTCI just saw this last night! Nat's going to have to censor a lot for YouTube. It's on Hulu, because yes Fox Searchlight was bought by Disney and is now just "Searchlight"

Hope your stress levels have returned to normal 😊 Still undecided about this movie, and whether it's for me. It's on Disney+ here in the UK, so I may check it out at some point. I saw Damsel is released on Netflix today, so I hope that one will be on your watchlist soon. As always, thanks for all your awesome work this week Nat, and have a brilliant weekend 💛
