Original Movie: Madame Web

I tried to watch this early on, but couldn't. First because I wasn't going to fork over $20+ to watch, then again when it was little less. I had some Amazon credit so now it was "free". I just want to say, in case one of the other comments didn't (I tried to read the other comments but some of them devolved into weirdly pointless arguments), there were no train apps when this movie takes place, which is 2003. Paying for things via your phone was still a huge novelty, if you even had a phone (though I did find it odd that only one of the girls had a phone, since even in 2003 I would think most teen girls would've had phones even if just for safety reasons, though payphones still existed here and there.)

2024-06-29 19:30:26 +0000 UTCI am 3 months late, but I came back and watched this, in full. I was never gonna see this movie on its own, I was SO HAPPY when I saw this in the backlog when I got back on patreon. Great entertainment, the several deaths you died made me laugh so much. It's everything you said, and I'm sure a few things you didn't say. I beat you to the "Who wrote this??" by half a second that one time. Here's to many more.

2024-04-20 00:04:34 +0000 UTC"Before you claimed that spending more money on better writers and directors would’ve made Madame Web better. Now you’re claiming it was bad CGI" Unlike you, apparently, I am capable of carrying more than one idea in my head at a time. Just because I don't express them all at once doesn't mean they aren't there. I did, however, come across a PERFECT description of YOU... "You’re an intolerant snowflake who gets irrationally offended and butthurt whenever you encounter ideas and opinions you disagree with." Yep. That's you to a T, hypocrite. Physician heal thyself.

2024-04-05 23:01:03 +0000 UTCI KNOW you believe that wasting more money on terrible movies will somehow make them better, because you’ve stated that multiple times! Before you claimed that spending more money on better writers and directors would’ve made Madame Web better. Now you’re claiming it was bad CGI. No one looked at the trailers for Madame Web and said, “The CGI looks bad, that’s why I’m not going to see Madame Web in the theatre.” What’s your next money-burning idea? “The marketing for Madame Web was bad, they should’ve spent more money on marketing and promotion!” 🙄 You’re just grasping at straws, trying to justify your delusion that wasting more money was the right move. Salespeople must see you coming from a mile off. I bet the more you pay for anything, the better you feel about it. A fool and their money… 🤣 YOU can WHINE all you want about Natalie’s honest reaction to Madame Web, hypocrite, it’s not going to change anything. It just demonstrates you’re an intolerant snowflake who gets irrationally offended and butthurt whenever you encounter ideas and opinions you disagree with. Retreat to your Facebook cave, troll.

2024-04-05 19:47:48 +0000 UTC"YOUR version of Madame Web would’ve sucked even worse, because you don’t know a thing about making movies or how movies are made." You don't know shit about what I know, boy. So let's drop the childish insults and talk facts. "Spending more money on a movie project doesn’t make it better and definitely does not make it more profitable." It's not a guarantee, but it can give the film a better chance. Part of the reason I think many people are upset with MW is one they haven't mentioned much - IT LOOKED CHEAP. It works on you sometimes without even realizing it consciously - something just looks off and it nags at you. It's uncomfortable to watch. Honestly I told a friend if it weren't a Marvel product I would have turned it off half-way through. I just watched it to be thorough. But you've got it right to lay the blame at the Studio as I have already pointed out. The Studio set this movie up to fail from the start. "You obviously FAIL to understand the reason why people subscribe to Natalie’s Patreon" Obviously you're full of shit because I'm paying to be here. But I don't like whiners. If I thought that that was all she was going to do I wouldn't be here. It's part of my reaction to a single reaction, cool your jets - Making broad assumptions on limited evidence is the first step to prejudice.
OB-Wan222
2024-04-04 16:48:43 +0000 UTCI see, you’re defending your IMAGINARY version of Madame Web, which is why you’re so pissy and defensive about it. I understand… YOUR version of Madame Web would’ve sucked even worse, because you don’t know a thing about making movies or how movies are made. Your idea to throw more money at terrible movie projects is precisely the delusional mentality that Disney, WB, and Sony has had for the past 5+ years. Spending more money on a movie project doesn’t make it better and definitely does not make it more profitable. Madame Web is a perfect example of a studio-driven project wherein a bunch of unimaginative empty suits hired a bunch of unqualified, untalented mercenaries who didn’t believe in the project, they obediently followed all of the studio’s mandates and “creative” notes, and they hacked together a movie that the studio loved on-paper, but no mainstream audience would pay to watch, never mind enjoy. As for Natalie’s “whining”, I respect her for giving her honest REACTION to an awful movie. You obviously FAIL to understand the reason why people subscribe to Natalie’s Patreon is for her full honest reactions. If you don’t like it when she dislikes a movie, TS. It’s not about you and no one cares.

2024-04-04 16:01:13 +0000 UTCI'll repeat it again for the slow learners: If you've been paying attention you would know that I have NOT been defending Madame Web in it's current form. I have been defending what Madame Web could have been. The Deadpool budget today would be equivalent to $75 million. Every once in a while you get a movie that breaks the mold - Deadpool was that. But you'll notice that Deadpool 2 was $110 million. Because the studio knew that it is VERY RARE to make a superhero movie for under $100 million that is worth a darn. My complaint about the reaction is that it is ONLY a steady stream of constant whining. It exhibits no humor or wit or insights - it's just whine, whine, whine. And I'm not a fan of that, in real life or on video.
OB-Wan222
2024-04-04 11:44:35 +0000 UTCDeadpool had a buget of 60 millions, the buget had nothing to do with piss-pour performance, shitty direction and a stupid villain. All of his line are ADR, it's not even funny by the end. If there's a characters in all Marvel universe that didn't need an Origin movie, it's Mme Web. Why are you mad at Nat for calling it how it is, a dumb, badly acted/directed movie.

2024-03-31 14:17:09 +0000 UTCIf you've been paying attention you would know that I have NOT been defending Madame Web in it's current form. I have been defending what Madame Web could have been. Try reading what I actually wrote, instead of reading INTO what I wrote. And I very justly criticized nat for whining. Her entire reaction was a whine festival. Trying to claim the moral high ground by defending Madame Web is PATHETIC. Natalie is one of the kindest “critics” in the movie reaction community and it appeared genuinely painful for her to get through this one. And YOU unjustly criticized her as “whiny”. You’re a TROLL that has been picking fights with everyone who disliked Madame Web in this comment section. You are the common denominator and outlier here. Crawl back under your bridge, troll.

2024-03-31 04:05:55 +0000 UTCIt is kinda ironic that (at least in my opinion) the best movies with female lead roles tend to be older. For example silence of the lambs, alien or kill bill.

2024-03-30 12:29:20 +0000 UTCInstead of making a good Spider Man Movie with Miles Morales to keep the license, Sony rushed this to the theatres. To think you only need to checkmark some fake ideologies and woke wash your Movie is Hollywoods biggest mistake and it costs them, Disney is a prime example. Its so sad to see them fail while they could make great movies with diverse Characters and/or female leads. They just had to make it not forced and not to obvious that all their ideologies and behaviour are all fake. They dont care about diversity or representation, they just want the money.

2024-03-30 11:11:07 +0000 UTCUnlikely I'll ever watch this movie as its reputation is so formidable (much like Morbius before it). Slightly tempted to watch with Nat here, but collective hate-watching has never been my cuppa tea.

2024-03-30 00:06:31 +0000 UTCFinally watched this. Bafflingly terrible movie. Kinda loved it. Maybe that’s going a bit far but I had fun with it. And I also had fun trying to figure out when Natalie would finally realise that it’s a period film. I haven’t read the comments but I’m sure plenty of people have already pointed out that Ben is Uncle Ben, and the baby is Peter. I’m sure Nat would have been able to piece that together too if she didn’t forget that the movie is not set in the present day, because they weren’t exactly subtle with the hints lmao.

2024-03-29 17:04:34 +0000 UTCMoney doesn't buy the best talent, just the most overrated and overpaid "talent". Indie movies are made with a fraction of Madame Web's budget, and some indie movies are incredible films and commercially successful. A great indie project can involve the most talented people who would cost tens of millions in a big dumb blockbuster; but they're attracted to the indie project because they recognize it's something special and are willing to do it for relatively little money, and they deliver their best effort because they're passionate about the project. No amount of money could've saved Madam Web because it was a terrible concept that was executed terribly. An all-girl superhero team-up movie doesn't work. It didn't work with The Marvels, it didn't work with Bird of Prey, and it didn't work with Ghostbusters 2016. A Harley Quinn spin-off movie might've worked. Captain Marvel 2 MIGHT have worked. A Spider-Woman movie probably would've worked if it had starred Sydney Sweeney and featured Spider-Woman in her costume for more than 30 seconds of screen time! The hacks at Columbia Pictures chose to produce an agenda-driven all-female film project featuring 4 lesser-known Spider-women characters, hired a director who had never made a feature film before, chose hack writers with a track record of failed movies, and cast actors who were either horrible, miscast, or didn't care. Madame Web was doomed to fail from its inception and no amount of money could've made it into a good movie.
Rod Reavern
2024-03-29 16:54:03 +0000 UTCYeah, people have been predicting the death of the MCU since it became clear there *was* an MCU. I'm pretty sure Avengers was going to kill it. Then Guardians of the Galaxy was way too weird and no one was going to see it. Then, okay, Guardians was huge but no way is anyone going to see something called Ant-Man. Marvel has definitely had some problems in phases 4 and 5. Part of that is that budgets for movies have gotten out of control, and there's reasons for that stretching back to the beginning of streaming services. And turns out the old leadership of Disney pushed Marvel to announce a bunch of Phase 4, 5, and 6 projects that they weren't ready to announce to try to push Disney+ subscriptions. And the current crop of movies and shows frequently don't connect to anything upcoming, so they're not driving people to the movies to see the next chapter of anything. But I could go on about what's going on with the movie industry for hours, and this is already at the "I ain't gonna read all that but I'm happy for you or sorry that happened" length. So, to sum up, the real problem facing the MCU is capitalism and the need for endless growth to appease the shareholders.
Kevin Mowery
2024-03-29 14:46:03 +0000 UTC"No amount of money could’ve saved this trainwreck." Sorry, but that is ridiculous hyperbole. Talk about being delusional. Money pays for more talented people to make the movie right from the start - better writers, better director and a more professional production that doesn't look like a soap opera. I think the concept from Sony's POV was to introduce 4 new heroes into the pantheon. The story takes place in 2005 - about the same time Peter Parker was being born. The 3 women in 2024 would be fully-grown crimefighters and part of a cadre of spider-people under the direction of an older, wiser Madame Web. That concept comes straight out of the Marvel comics. The real problem (which the budget indicates) is that Sony is trying to make superhero movies on the cheap. That may work well with animation but not for a live-action production. Budget makes the difference between a Venom ($100 million) and a Mobius ($75 million) or a Madame Web ($80 million).

2024-03-29 02:42:40 +0000 UTCYou’re delusional if you think the movie’s budget was the biggest problem with this abortion. No amount of money could’ve saved this trainwreck. The critical failure was the concept and everything afterward was doomed to fail.
Rod Reavern
2024-03-29 02:41:29 +0000 UTCThis was a trainwreck from start to finish — from the CONCEPT all the way to the marketing and promotion (Dakota Johnson’s cringey press junket interviews). I’m glad I waited for Natalie’s reaction video to watch Madam Web because I couldn’t bear to watch this abortion a second time. Based on this all-girl superhero movie and The Marvels (and Ghostbusters 2016), I’m dreading the CG animated Spider-Gwen film that has been announced, because it’s not just Gwen — which I’d love because Gwen’s prologue in Across the Spider-verse was PERFECT! No, for inexplicable reasons, it’s supposed to be another all-girl Spider team-up movie. 🤬 I don’t know what it is about these agenda-driven all-female stars, writers, director, editor, producers, etc. action movie projects, but they don’t work. I suspect that they aren’t subjected to the same scrutiny as other blockbuster movie projects, so it’s a George-Lucas’-Prequel-Trilogy situation wherein no can tell them “That idea/character/dialogue SUCKS. Scrap it and do better!” Without the usual guard rails in place, these movies crash and burn.

2024-03-28 21:38:23 +0000 UTC1. It's PETER, Nat. PETER BENJAMIN PARKER is the baby's name. His middle name derived from his uncle BENJAMIN FRANKLIN PARKER. 2. GAWD, it's so funny how carefully they were tiptoeing around NOT saying anything close to Spiderman, Peter or even "wall-crawling". "Boy, we sure should get away from that ceiling guy, er, spider.....person." 3. I'd be SHOCKED if they threw more money away on a sequel, I mean they were openly mocking Madame Web at the Oscars this year. I know sometimes $ is the only deciding factor in these things but I'm under the impression that it lost money or at best broke even. 4. Last thing, I swear: Madame Web Pitch Meeting reaction? Maybe on your next live stream?

2024-03-28 21:11:36 +0000 UTCNat needs to crank up the Way-Back machine and start watching movies that have stood the test of time not just the latest Internet darling (if she hasn't seen them before). OB-Wan222
2024-03-28 20:38:54 +0000 UTCFor the record, I said Nat was whining every 2 seconds, not every second. I just had to stop before my ears started bleeding. The major flaw with this film is not the script although that's pretty bad. The biggest problem is the budget of $80 million. It's pretty hard to make a good superhero film on that kind of budget which "Mobius" should have proven to the movie heads. "Madame Web" was setup for failure from the start. Which is why very quickly into the film I started wondering why it looked so much like a TV production instead of a movie.
OB-Wan222
2024-03-28 20:25:39 +0000 UTCNat, did you really not catch that her colleague was Ben Parker and his nephew, the baby who was being born this movie, was Peter Parker? As in Spiderman himself? 2024-03-28 18:48:51 +0000 UTCWatching bad movies occasionally can be fun, but I didn’t think it would be the vast majority of the new movies we were gonna get.
