You didn't have to watch "This Season On" part. Come on ,Nat. You know that. I don't think Maximus put the razor blade in Dane's boot. I feel like one of the higher ups did it. Dane was picked, but someone else wanted Maximus so they sabotaged Dane. It's weird how Noah's Ark came to mind with the people staying in different Vaults. Noah had his wooden ship, but of course others somehow survived. You are a smart golden graham Nat. Not smart enough to skip "This Season on," but not perfect. You come off like an old soul in a young person. It's the way you think. When it was showing skeletal remains, your thought went to people outside hoping it would open, but it didn't. I doubt you'll see this.

Don Mayhem

yeah wow, that really showed a piece of every important scene for the whole upcoming season, that would've almost ruined half the show for me if I'd watched that initially

Josh Baker

You have my unconditional permission to skip ā€œThis season on..ā€ at the end of any show pilot…

Daniel McGuinness

Who the fuck says the Fallout games are not story games :-) I had a good chuckle at that comment.

Rime Pendragon

Yep. It's pretty literally, "Remember how the Jetsons envisioned the future? It's that same kind of world, more or less."

Jeff K

Did you pick up the games when Amazon was giving them away for free on Twitch? I would love to watch you wander the wasteland in Fallout 4. ...it would be a little different than wandering around in Red Dead.

Powers209

lol great reaction Nat... can't believe how many people got butt hurt over watching the season preview... as someone who dared to watch it I still survived oh dear... there are literally NO plot points ruined you MAY understand what was shown if you remember it at the time and only in retrospect like "oh that's what that was" either way it will not lessen for you in any way the magic that is Fallout. Also, despite a comment to the contrary 1) fallout (Bethesda versions) do not have a "story" IN THE WAY THAT SOMETHING LIKE TLOU does... whereas this is (as a tv series) is completely story driven like TLOU the series was. Additionally, this is set AFTER all of the fallout games so they can go ham on plot regardless... looking forward to the next one very much.

eclipse

Words cant explain how much i hate that you watched the trailer at the end. Also the games aren’t story games? Theyre open world so I guess if you wander aimlessly around not doing the story then sure, but they are heavy story games so i dunno wtf hes talking about there.

jamie jones

I really hate when they do that. Also when shows add a trailer at the end period. Like we just watched an episode, that should be preview enough. But reactors should know better as it spoils things that will happen.

jamie jones

This is an alternate reality future where the transistor was never invented and the technology evolved more into vacuum tubes and nuclear miniaturisation and fusion technology. But other countries where fighting for resources such as oil and then China invaded Alaska, the US annexed Canada and then Nuclear war...

Thomas Richter

100%, I couldn't put it any better than this. :)

Logan Kerlee

The Fallout universe uses what's called "retro future" an alt reality where technology never advanced passed 1950s tech even though its the mid 22nd century. The nuclear apocalypse happened In 2077. This world shows what people in the 1950s would think the future would look like.

LightsCameraJake

I can't belive you actually watched the trailer at the end lol

Inhale Burrito

Someone could explain it better but I’m pretty sure in the fallout universe, microchips and compact computers were never invented. Which is why everything is so big and old school, while still being very advanced. I mean the bombs drop in like 2070, it’s definitely the future, just no compact technology

Oliver

Halbe Bibel, ganzer Hurensohn

Tim

You clearly don’t understand what a spoiler is, and neither do the other people who replied. ā„ļø ā„ļø ā„ļø ā„ļø By your ridiculously broad definition, anyone giving any opinion on the series would be a ā€œspoilerā€. Well, too late, Karen. Natalie said in her intro that she’s aware of people’s generally positive opinions of the Fallout series, which presumably influenced her decision to watch Fallout (and put it on the New TV Series poll in the first place) than any one person’s comment.

Rod Reavern

Jinx! You can almost not hear her in there.

PickettsChargingPort

Mentioning anything about episodes nat hasnt seen is a spoiler. You have many people here replying to you that you are spoiling so please delete your comment. You are in the wrong here. People are pointing it out, just stop arguing.

LightsCameraJake

-"According to Amazon, Fallout pulled in 65 million viewers in its first 16 days of availability. It was the second most-watched title in the history of the platform"

Taff Lewis

was going to comment that it's no different than a marvel stinger. but I think you're right. I don't recall, but believe that all of the preview footage is included in the episodes (and she's already hyped). plus she can just binge watch her reactions and slow release on the schedule, if she wants. Good comment. Thanks.

Taff Lewis

Vocally rooted for Nat to make the "Ghoul connection" through the whole scene. Thanks Nat for not disappointing. =] Goggins has been a welcomed supporting "flavor" in previous roles, was excited to see him in something more to the front. Shivering with anticip..... ...pation, for more Ghoul/Cooper and for future Goggin's roles.

Taff Lewis

Nat don't Watch after credits the sneak peak

Arry

That’s ridiculous. Mentioning that there will be revelations at the end of the season isn’t a spoiler and in no way could diminish anyone’s enjoyment of the series. The problems I alluded to are within the Fallout premiere, which Natalie has watched (obvi), but they don’t become apparent until the end of the season. Those problems aren’t criticisms of the finale; I thought the revelations were great and overall the finale was satisfying. The problems are hidden in the premiere, not the finale.

Rod Reavern

I've been looking high and low for someone close to your quality that is reacting to this show since I finished it but to no avail. SO glad you are watching it now. This will be the first series I try to watch all the full episodes with your full length commentary. Super stoked to see what you make of it, as you always have such interesting takes and genuine heartfelt responses.

James McKey

Dane is a "him/they" character, not a she. Also the look ahead at the end of the episode was all spoilers. Stay away from those in the future.

LightsCameraJake

Can we not disclose anything about the conclusion subjective or otherwise. Please delete your comment. Nobody wants nat to go into this show hating it when she should be enjoying it :)

LightsCameraJake

Never watch after the episode ends!

George Roybal

I didn’t criticize how the season ends — I thought the finale was mostly good and I was on board with the revelations. I criticized how the revelations at the end of the season made the premiere worse upon reflection, because certain things don’t make sense after we know everything that happened. That shouldn’t diminish Natalie’s (or anyone else’s) opinion of the Fallout premiere. As I stated, on its own, the premiere was great (well, except for some of the Maximus stuff). I’m just curious if Natalie will recognize them same issues with the premiere after she finishes watching season 1 of Fallout. Although, even within the premiere, there were baffling things, like the ā€œchoiceā€ Moldaver gave Lucy’s Father: Choosing between the life of his daughter and the lives of the six other vault dweller hostages. The choice didn’t matter because Moldaver abducted Lucy’s Father, and she spared the lives of those vault dwellers. So what was the point? It made even less sense after the revelations in the finale. It seemed contrived solely to stop Lucy from being taken with her father, so she could embark on her adventure to rescue him, facilitating the plot of Season 1. There had to be better ways to accomplish that setup than the BS choice Moldaver gave Lucy’s Father.

Rod Reavern

Yeah a post like this should really be held to the end of the series. Maybe no outright spoilers but criticizing how it ends is still throwing out hints or at least expectations.

Marty McGee

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. Ella Purnell is a chameleon. To go from Jinx in Arcane to Jackie in Yellowjackets, and now to Lucy here is amazing. They are such vastly different characters in temperament and intelligence, and she manages to be believable in all of them. She’s great as one of the co-leads in this show. Her introduction and the inciting incident that starts her off in her quest is just so well-handled.

mojo shivers

So pumped for this show and its only the 1st episode! Thanks, Nat! Great cast including some of my favorites: Walton Goggins, Michael Emerson with the first 3 episodes Directed by Jonathan Nolan. BTW, hope everyone, or for those fans of the "Deadpool" movies, saw Blind Al (w/o the sunglasses Leslie Uggams).

Alan Felicia

At least it’s not a huge crucial story spoiler, but you really didn't need to dig your heels in like a stubborn brat

Lucky Dragon

Someone else has probably already said, but Dane is a he, and the actor Xelia Mendez-Jones is he/they

Lucky Dragon

Not knowing who that actor was I too thought she was a her! Especially when you can see other women soldiers running about as well in the background.

Albiezushi

Can't await to watch!

Boomcity

Awesome, can't wait to watch the rest of this. Glad you enjoyed it, it only gets better!

Riolkin

This is screaming, "I'm a good person! Look at me!" Try not to give your input on certain scenes until after she's seen it.

Marcus Carter

Fallout is strictly story driven. And the bombs dropped in 2077, in the future, it's an alternate timeline where where people kept that 50's aesthetics, glad to see you reacting to this Nat, I think you're gonna love it!

Marcus Carter

In what universe is Fallout not a 'Story-driven game'? Maybe the Vault app game isn't, but they're literally Role Playing Games. Each Fallout game is a thousand different stories that the player navigates through, with a larger canon surrounding all of them. There is a story to Fallout. There is a LOT of story to Fallout. The main thing that fans were worried about when this was announced was that the show wouldn't honour the story of the games. They did a fantastic job of capturing the story of the games in this so far.

Sean Maher

Yep. It's pretty much, "Remember how The Jetsons saw the future? It's basically just that."

Jeff K

Yes, The Ghoul is Walton Goggins, Cooper Howard.

Connor Ellis

Hey Nat, just FYI, Xelia Mendes-Jones identifies as a man and uses him/they pronouns. You referred to Dane as "her" a couple of times. Looking forward to watching the show again, this time with your reactions!

Berry

priming her with this entire take from the first episode is wild šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€

uberelder

The premiere episode of Fallout was great and I’m grateful that Natalie is reacting to this new series (although I also hope she watches X-Men ā€˜97 and Blue Eye Samurai). I thought the premiere’s intro sequence was a masterpiece of world-building and foreboding doom, and Walton Goggins was superb. The establishment of the Vault was excellent, with plenty of references and Easter eggs to the Fallout games. I liked Lucy's optimism, adorable naivete, and her being heroic and competent without being taken to the extreme of portraying her as a Mary Sue or insufferable girlboss. Whereas Maximus was a bit of a mixed bag and it's bewildering WHY the Brotherhood, particularly the Enclave Leader, gave him the "honour" of being a squire after his apparent confession (which becomes more perplexing later). The introduction of the Ghoul was another masterful scene. As a self-contained episode, Fallout’s premiere was great… however, after the revelations in the season finale, there are things that occurred in the premiere that don’t make sense upon reflection, which makes it disappointing on my second viewing. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that certain characters and events depicted in the premiere have different contexts by the finale — that’s to be expected in any series like this. The inconsistencies and plot holes in the premiere only became evident when I finished watching Fallout the first time. Now that I’ve re-watched the series premiere with Natalie’s reaction, the contrivances are difficult to ignore and I wish the premiere had done a better job setting things up. I acknowledge that the premiere succeeded in foreboding what happened in the episode itself, which is why I thoroughly enjoyed it the first time. For example, the direction and camera work for the subtle clues that Norm (Lucy’s Brother) observed about the ā€œVault 32ā€ dwellers were well done, foreboding what was to come and ratcheting up the tension. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Moldaver’s actions in the premiere. There should’ve been more nuance and ambiguity, with hints and double-meanings planted in the premiere that a clever and keen-eyed viewer could deduce, which would’ve made the revelations at the end of the season more satisfying — for the Zennials, I wanted the Shia Leboef applauding meme, but I got the ā€œYou lied to meā€ meme. Revelations are what give dramatic weight to the climax of the story; it’s the ā€œeurekaā€ moment wherein we’re astounded by how clever the show is. However, a well-written revelation must be illuminating AND logically consistent. It should provide intriguing context to the established events and character choices made in the premiere, not contradict or undermine them. That’s why I didn’t rewatch the Fallout series until now with Natalie’s reaction, whereas I’ve watched the first seasons of The Last of Us and Wednesday multiple times. I don’t mean to seem negative, because there's plenty to enjoy in Fallout, but similar to any Bethesda game, you have accept it the way it is, bugs and all.

Rod Reavern

They nailed the feel and humor of the games. I am excited for your reaction. Asperant Dane is NB so are they/them.

Elvenwitch

Fallout universe is not our future but how peoples of the 50s or 60s thought the future was going to be.

David Bourgeois

Youre a fuckin douchebag. Cant help yourself but post spoilers? Eat shit asshole.

jamie jones

As I understand it, it's not so much set in the past or future, but is more of an alternate history of "What if we succeeded at fusion first instead of fission" and then The End came before most of the technology got shrunk down (or couldn't because it was fusion instead of fission). I'm not a super Fallout out nerd though, so I'm sure someone can probably tell you better. Just my simpleton's understanding of it.

SmokeAndACoffee

Very happy that you enjoyed your first trek into the Fallout universe! :)

Logan Kerlee

Hi Erik, I think your right, as it has been so popular. It is hard to judge it as I played the games and have been picking up on the easter eggs and just wished everyone could appreciate the level of detail they have gone to with this show. Simple things like the cartoon the kids were watching at the start of the episode "Grognak the Barbarian", brilliant!!!

Baggie Mark

I think you're confusing easter eggs for game players with important or useful information. At this point millions of people who have not played the games have watched and enjoyed the show.

Erik Stevenson

Nat, So glad your watching this show as I really enjoyed it. One thing with it is that I think it was really written for those who had played the game Fallout (not the iPad version), as there are so many references you will miss if you hadn't played the game. Hopefully you will be able to enjoy it without playing the game.

Baggie Mark

I prefer Fallout 3 and New Vegas to 4, but I guess we’ll see how she likes the show.

Eric Miller

Such a great universe to create a TV show! I didn't play a Fallout game until F3, which was Bethesda's first game after acquiring the rights from Interplay, who made 1 and 2 for PC back in the late 90s. I was hooked immediately and have loved the universe for decades. As others hinted, I hope once you're finished with the series it gives you the itch to jump into one of the games. I always suggest F4 for newcomers but any of the games would be enjoyable. Great reaction!

Mike Hell

Now I know what I am doing when I get home XD

Lucky Dragon

Yeah I always suggest 4 for newcomers because it's the most accessible. Hope she gives it a shot!

Mike Hell

Oh it's no secret, I hope she finishes the show and immediately hops into Fallout 4.

Mike Hell

ahhh. the days when we actually had physical copies of video games. My fallout 3 and new vegas cd's kept breaking. ended up buying 3 of each over time lulz This show is a great time even for those unfamiliar with the world.

TrackHoodie

Glad we're checking this out! The opening of the show is set in the year 2077, and everything that happens in the show is cannon to the games!

themightyabe

Just so you know Nat, the show really leans into the video game aspect of the concept. That’s why when Lucy used the Stimpak on herself, she was immediately better, because that’s how it would work in a video game. Just something to keep in mind. I am also one of those Fallout nerds from way back. Bought the first game when it came out for the Macintosh computer in 1998. I really wish the first three games would be modernized. I know there are mods and other things out there and I have messed with them, but there are always issues that can’t be corrected without access to the source code. All I want is a properly framed 1080p window and a scaled interface, so it would work on a TV.

JediLounger

Yep. The attention to detail in this series is INSANE. And I can't wait for the rest of the reactions because I'm just over here excitedly waiting to talk about some of it, including some general gamer Easter eggs scattered throughout that don't detract for non-Fallout players, but made me smile so hard as a fan of the games.

Jeff K

I'm an OG Fallout nerd, bought the first one on CD-ROM in 1997 when I was 13 and have been hooked since. Was VERY pleasantly surprised that I loved the series and look forward to the remainder of the reaction season Nat!

Keith Jacobsen

The nicest thing about this show is that it REALLY leans into the "Fallout" aesthetic. The Pip-Boy, the Bobblehead, the Vault Door, the Vault Door control panel, Nuka-Cola, Stimpaks.... and many many others... they all look identical to the games. Even the introduction to Lucy! That was so great! That monologue was Character Creation! She might as well have said, "I have a 12 Intelligence, 15 Agility, and my perks are First Aid and Magnetic Personality! I loved that scene. The opening scene with the Ghoul's daughter was just CHILLING. Loved that. The dark humor is great. The games never shied away from the gore, so that's spot on. The side-quests. The NPC's. It's all here! I would say this is as true and faithful and GOOD a video game adaptation as there has ever been. Okie Dokie is now a euphemism for sexytime.

Mastervodo

Now you'll have to do a Fallout 4 playthrough ;)

Sam Winkler

we're all truly impressed with your morals, but it's still a spoiler

TheCrazyPriest

It has absolutely nothing to do with your convictions. You can wait and post the same comment next week. You're spoiling something for others who might not have seen the show yet (including Nat). I fully understand that's not something you enjoyed but you can still respect others who don't want spoilers for something they haven't seen yet.

Jeff K

yay! i'm excited for this reaction!

vlocke67

I will not delete it, I'm speaking my truth! If Natalie wants to delete it then so be it, but I will always stand by my convictions!

dieselbeast

So cool to see this show directed by Christopher Nolans brother. Both were filming "atomic bomb" projects at the same time and both got advise from one another on their projects. Both Nolan brothers are fans of the Fallout games. Johnathan Nolan took good care to make sure that this is an original story set in the Fallout universe. The "retro futuristic" 50s vibes is so unique. Very excited for you to watch this series. And please do play one of the games. I'd suggest starting with Fallout 4 as that is the look the show takes after, or start with New Vegas. Fallout 4 is easier to get into though for first time players and especially newer gamers.

LightsCameraJake

Delete this comment please, no need to spoil things and ruin it for others simply because you didn't enjoy it :)

LightsCameraJake

Walton Goggins possesses a level of natural charm that should be illegal.

Jeff K

One of the best soundtracks in a series by a mile.

adrianR31

Been waiting with this one until you got around to it, excited to embark on a new journey with you!

Danishprince

Maybe don't put spoilers on the first episode reaction

Regi Todd

100%.

Jeff K

Fantastic. I love the Fallout games, and this show absolutely NAILED the tone and aesthetic.

Jeff K

I tried to give this show a chance but it didn't work for me, it was simply off putting, burning puppies alive nah after two episodes

dieselbeast

Anyone else not-so-secretly hoping this results in Natalie playing a Fallout game?

Eric Miller

Hell yeaaaaa!!! So excited for this one mate you have no idea!!šŸ”„

Jordan

Happy Fallout Fursday Nat šŸ˜„ Been looking forward to watching this show with you. Time to dive in and see what it's all about 😊 Such an intriguing show. Something about an apocalyptic world that always draws you in. Off to a good start and looking forward to the next one and seeing where the characters end up. Thanks for a fun reaction today Nat šŸ’›
