FIRST TIME WATCHING: The Big Short

Happy Feature Friday!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy...this film was NOT what I expected. The constant breaking of the fourth wall really surprised me, and I'm so glad I finally had a chance to watch it!

I watched this on Prime Video for those who are curious. As always, thank you for your support here on Patreon. Until the next one, take care and stay golden :)

Original Movie: The Big Short

Comments

You now need to watch "To big to fail" on HBO. It ties perfectly to this movie but it shows the governments side of all this

Jonathan Martin

Your intro…..😂😂 you’re the best ! 😂❤️

Billy B

Yeah I think the big thing to me with not having the intro/outro’s here is that I don’t go watch the YouTube video after I’ve watched a full reaction here. So if those aren’t here on the Patreon video I never see them

Michael Bergeron

Like the others, I really miss the old intro/outro, otherwise great movie and absolutely fun reaction!

Heliastein

You should watch Moneyball

Daniel Casillas

This is a fun movie but I think the collage editing might blunt the message. An earlier movie with a similar visual style is 24 Hour Party People about the history of Factory Records it works better because it’s about the music industry. Michael Lewis who wrote the book was all in on the Sam Bankman-Fried scam which I think demonstrates how we are all vulnerable to fraud even if we understand how it works. It’s just really hard to accept that people just lie and other people just go along with liars when there’s a chance for lots of money. Generative AI is an even bigger scam than cryptocurrency was/is and none of the tech companies will own up to it. My favourite Adam McKay film is Don’t Look Up. It’s both sillier and angrier than The Big Short and Ron Perlman is in it.

I lived through this in a fairly nasty way. Bought a house for myself at the height in 2005 or so and then had to short sell it in 2008 for $50k less than I bought it. Fortunately it wasn’t one with a nasty variable rate or anything, it just didn’t make sense to hang on to it with the location and being underwater. So we sold and moved into a rental. Still haven’t bought again since then. Guess the experience kind of left a nasty taste in my pocketbook. And I honestly kind of prefer the mobility. We’ve moved 3 more times since then. Love where we are now in a totally different state.

Thank you so much for this reaction, on of my favorite movies. I gotta say I really miss having the full experience with the full intro's and outros with your reaction posted on here. This one was escpecially abrupt at the end with zero thoughts or commentary. Just my two cents.

mrhalfbit

I second this.

mrhalfbit

Good reaction. Would've been kinda cool though to hear your thoughts on it after the movie. Maybe just a little bit of commentary. It ended so abruptly once the movie ended lol.

The Mad Icelander

Ah, one of my favorite horror movies. Because it is damn scary.

Jay

This movie has a special meaning for me. I love the story and all the actors but it also made me incredibly angry about the system, where bunch of greedy bankers and fraudulent wall street a holes collapsed the world economy and never went to jail for that.

LJ Mickey

mmm where did the outro go? :D

Bence Krizsan

"I'm jacked to the tits!" Love this movie. The style, the fourth-wall breaks, the performances (particularly Christian Bale, Steve Carell, and Ryan Gosling...but they're all pretty damn great), and the fuck you to capitalism...well, to the banks, anyway. This movie did make money, after all. Anyhoo...good shit.

Steve Mercier

lets goooo stoked to see this nat

Dale Diaz

Quite the bummer you didnt do an outro for this one, but still nice reaction.

samuel Jakob

Glad more people are watching this film, but it made my blood boil so I don't think I can watch it again so soon. The reality of this situation, and the fact that nobody important ever paid for it, just makes my cynicism skyrocket lol FYI Eat The Rich and Happy Friday!

adding another vote for Margin Call

Peter Yocum

I love Margin Call! And a lot of names in there that are unexpected. Kevin Spacey. Jeremy Irons. Paul Bettany (Jarvis/Vision!), Zachary Quinto (Spock!) Demi Moore (Hot). Great movie, but makes you frustrated and angry.

I thought it might have something to do with the monitors not knowing what resolution to be at, but without knowing what Natalie's setup is, it's hard to direct her where to look/check/change things. Heck, most my my personal PC tech support is me clicking on screens and reading and going, "What does that do?" until it works!

Mastervodo

Ryan is incredible in this. JACKED TO THE TITS!

adrianR31

This film just makes me mad...not the film itself just the reality of it all

Rey

Happy Feature Friday Nat. Great to see that your PC has been sorted. God Bless Tyler 😊 Haven't seen this movie before. Going to watch it over the weekend with you. Thanks for all your awesome work this week. Have a great weekend Nat 💛

Darryl Low

Awesome! There are some great 'finance' movies out there, but probably some people don't check them out due to that description. Margin Call is another sleeper. Looking forward to watching this tonight!

Pickupthepieces76

Hi Nat, I'm glad that Tyler your shinning Knight came to your rescue with your PC issues, at least it wasn't Graphics card issue, I did panic a bit when my WIN+P trick seem to make it worse..🤯🤯

Baggie Mark

Never watched this film so the first thing into my mind was the song Big Shot by Billy Joe. From the description it sounds really interesting so 100% going to check this out. Love me some good fourth wall breaks. Edit: Opps the title is actually Big Short not Big Shot... Dyslexic moment.
