First time watching this episode. No way Gambit and Magnetio died. That three head Sentinel reminded me of M.O.D.O.K for a second. I never knew Cable was Madelyne pryor's son. Then again, the first time I ever heard of Madelyne Pryor was episode two. Which makes sense since Cable was taken to the future for the cure and looks the way he does

2024-09-16 03:31:20 +0000 UTCOh and to answer your question about magneto yes he has the same backstory as a holocaust survivor who was already over humanity before he knew he was a mutant. And jean and the other xmen knew who cable was beforehand but it wasn't until Madeline/Jean looked into his eyes at that exact moment that she realized that was her son.

2024-09-14 04:20:16 +0000 UTCI'm sure some one else tackled it in the comments at some point, but Rogue had a run in with Captain Marvel, touched her and gained her ability to fly and her incredible strength. This happens in the comics too, but because the movies didn't have the rights to Captain Marvel she never had that confrontation and never got those powers.

2024-09-12 04:50:43 +0000 UTCYo what the FUCK. I've not watched this show, I'm first-time watching this along with Nat. What the FUCK. I wanted half an hour of some ... cartoon, to have with a snack. I did not come here to cry. But also laugh, because Nat's on the other screen just losing it in 3 different directions. Best outro in a while. Yeah, I don't watch HotD at all, with or without Nat. Never cared for GoT, but glad I'm not missing anything lmao. (I don't go around complaining about the stuff I don't care for, she brought it up!) I don't even have any real nostalgia for the X-Men. In general, or the predecessor cartoon. I watched X-Men Evolution instead. Still, Rogue has always had it rough when it comes to love, and it always hits. But also, who wrote this episode, a lot of the lines in it are just really powerful. I'd have rewound the episode 20 times if not for the react video. Also also, I noticed one stark difference. I just about melted when Happy Nation started playing. I have no nostalgia for the X-Men show, but I DO have nostalgia for the 90's. ... Natalie does not. :D No mention of the song, at all. That too made me laugh quite a bit. But what the FUCK.

2024-09-11 23:04:27 +0000 UTCI know other people have said it but simply Gambit touches things and they can explode. He can like charge it up. Rogue absorbs energy/ memories through her skim. She held onto Captain Marvel (when she was a villain) for too long and kept her flight and strength forever. (This is like the most simple way to explain them lol)

2024-09-11 18:15:39 +0000 UTCI won't pretend to be an animation expert, but this episode of xmen 97 is one of the best episodes of animation i've ever seen. The only thing that has made a similar impact of me was a moment in season 2 of The Legend of Vox Machina(IYKYK) which is why I have been such a champion of you watching that show as well. I desperately what to see you watch The Legend of Vox Machina. On a previous poll it was neck and neck with xmen 97 with votes.

2024-09-11 05:08:34 +0000 UTCEpisode 5 is an EVENT. Scott (Cyclops) getting mad at the reporters, Remy (Gambit) third-wheeling to Anna (Rogue) & Erik (Magneto), seeing Genosha, first seeing Kurt (Nightcrawler) and Emma Frost, Jean kissing Logan, Scott & Jean’s argument, Nathan (Cable) telling Madelyne he’s sorry he couldn’t stop the destruction of Genosha from happening right before it happens, and both Erik & Remy gone

2024-09-11 04:23:49 +0000 UTCThis episode is so much all at once! The internal drama that is the X-Men, Madelyn Prior and Cable meeting, the ending cutting to black with Rogue's final line of the episode! Her being able to finally touch the man she loves but not being able to feel him. I decided to watch this episode on release in the gym... safe to say that was not a good idea lol!

2024-09-11 04:06:48 +0000 UTCWhen the X-Men cartoon debuted the comics hadn't revealed Magneto's real name, but Xavier knew him as “Magnus.” It wasn’t until some time around the mid 90s that the comics revealed his name as “Erik Lensherr,” which may or may not have been an alias. Erik was a victim of the Holocaust, but it was never explicitly stated if he was Jewish or Slavic or Roma or something else. Around 2010, the canonical origin of Magneto was revealed in the comics, and Magneto’s REAL real name was revealed to be Max Eisenhart, and that he was a Romani Jewish survivor of the holocaust The animated series reconciled the name changes by making him “Erik ‘Magnus’ Lensherr” - Magnus being the name he went by when he met Xavier, hence why Xavier called him that the most. And definitely includes his experience in Auschwitz. Idk if you caught it but when he’s assessing the destruction of Genosha, before throwing the train, you see a quick flash of his time in the camps. Thats what made him snap

2024-09-10 23:49:59 +0000 UTCI told you episode 5 was an event. I think it's crazy just how much happens in 5 half hour episodes... but it's easier to get away with stuff like that in animation than live action. But despite the medium being inherently less realistic, and despite ten million crazy things happening, you're able to get deeply invested in the characters. I was not ready for this episode either... had to stop watching, go to my wife and explain everything that happened, and why I was in tears over a cartoon.

2024-09-10 21:22:17 +0000 UTCOnly the second time I’ve fully rewatched the series but I’m actually shook at how much this episode still made me feel 😅 like it almost felt even worse than the first time because i knew… when Jean and Maddy got the psychic shock and that eerie vocal music kicked in during Rogue and Magneto’s dance I felt straight SICK!!! 😭😭😭 And it was set up so perfectly. Jean’s whole premonition in episode 2 is about this. The thousands of graves, the ghost of Cable running towards her, the gigantic sentinels eyes - and i only noticed when watching this episode and having a Memento style flashback that music playing during Jeans vision is the same eerie vocals from when Rogue and Erik are dancing but even spookier - but it still managed to have the suddenness, shock and terror of a real life terror attack 🙁 I love this show dude

2024-09-10 20:58:03 +0000 UTCThis show is so damn good ugh and Rogue's power is the same as in the movies any mutant or person she touches she gets their gifts or knowledge for a short while, the reason she can fly and has super strength is cause Mystique her adopted mom forced her to battle Captain marvel and hold onto her for too long which put Captain marvel in a coma, giving Rogue her flying and super strength permanently. Gambits power is charged kinetic energy any object he has he can charge it to explode

2024-09-10 16:07:51 +0000 UTCI love this episode so much as there's an absolute ton of development with Scott, Jean, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Beast flirting, the politics stuff, The Watcher!! And then all of it is overshadowed by that sudden intrusion of violence, even in a world of violence. It's so raw. You're left reeling with those final scenes filling your mind, but there was so much more. Such good TV!

2024-09-10 15:08:32 +0000 UTCHappy Tuesday Nat. After last week's kinda fun filler episode, they threw us back into the main plot with a bang! Damn! The X-Men movies brilliantly blended action, story and emotion so well, and this show manages to do that amazingly well too. I think it's just as well you gave us a week to process it all. Thanks for your reaction today Nat 💛

2024-09-10 13:53:02 +0000 UTCFor context rogues power is to absorb the life energy and memories of the people she touches, she used to be a villain that fought against the x-men with her adoptive mother mystique. The reason she can fly and has super strength is because she once got into a fight with Carol Danvers and absorbed her power permanently. Gambits power is to bring anything he touches to its full energy potential. He mostly does this by touching the object and turning it into a bomb. Similar to rexplode from invincible.

2024-09-10 13:20:22 +0000 UTCI'm still struggling with this series, not sure if it's because we've jumped in mid way through a story ark. I'll keep watching as I enjoy Nat reactions anyway lol..

2024-09-10 13:14:55 +0000 UTCWho is Marvel Girl? Jean Grey was originally known as Marvel Girl from X-Men #1 (1963), until roughly the time of The Phoenix Saga, beginning in 1976. The name was dropped and she was referred to her as Jean Grey moving forward. Jean Grey as a name, at least for me has always been the most iconic title for Jean. When I hear Jean Grey I think of a badass Mutant, Marvel Girl is a pretty generic name as well. This title change can be viewed as a reaction to the 70s women’s movement and how several grown women superheroes have "girl" in their titles. The most iconic Marvel example is The Invisible Woman of the Fantastic Four who was originally called The Invisible Girl, even though she was a grown adult. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Uatu The Watcher: At 20:40, during the shot of the night sky after the Rogue/Gambit conversation, you can spot the outline of Uatu the Watcher. Uatu made his first appearance in Fantastic Four #13 (1963) as a member of an ancient race known as the Watchers. Each Watcher is assigned there own region of space with Uatu overseeing the Sol system, observing Earth from the Blue Area of the Moon, bound by an oath of non-interference. Though he has broken it on several occasions, helping the Fantastic Four and other heroes. Uatu also possesses a portal that allows him to observe other realities, though he can't travel between realities. This is more of a hobby than anything else. His main job is to watch over his region of space. The MCU version of his character, introduced in What... If? exists beyond time and space overseeing the Marvel Multiverse. A fifth dimensional being living in the Nexus of All Realities, allowing him access to all possible realities of the MCU. Instead of observing the Earth from the Moon, Uatu of the MCU observes the whole Multiverse. Uatu has also appeared in the original 90s X-Men series. Whenever Jean Grey became the Dark Phoenix we saw a shot of Uatu watching the Earth from the Moon, Sensing Jean's transformation. Summed up... Shit is about to go down if a Uatu The Watcher appears lol -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cable is... Who!!! Nathan Summer is indeed the time-travelling Mutant known as Cable. The son of Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor. Baby Nathan was introduced in Uncanny X-Men #201 (1985) and like the show was then sent into the future after being infected with the Techno-Organic Virus. Five years later Cable would be introduced at the end of The New Mutants #86 (1990) with the next issue #87 highlighting his first full appearance. It would later be revealed that Cable was Nathan Summers in Cable Issue #6 (Dec. 1993) three years later. In between these comics Cable would make his appearance in Season 1 (1992) of the X-Men Animated Series and would become a recurring character throughout the show. Cable being the son of Scott/Madelyne was never mentioned in the original series. The X-Men, along most of the viewers only knew Cable to be a time traveller from around 3000 AD with no real insight into his backstory. This is why Madelyne knew Cable, It was only after Nathan was born and Madelyne saw Cable eyes that she made the connection that Cable was her son Nathan. You already met Cable as well in Deadpool 2 (2018) played by Josh Brolin. The time traveller from the future who came back to present day to stop a teenage Russell Collins / Firefist from killing his family in the future when he became a supervillain. Summed up. Cable is a badass, mix between The Terminator and an adult John Connor. One of the best characters introduced during the 90s. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nat's Magneto Origin Question: Your correct, Magneto is a survivor of the Holocaust. He was born Max Eisenhart (Magnus Erik Lehnsherr) sometime during the 1930s. When he was child during WW2 his country was invaded. Max along with his family would be captured and placed into concentration camps, parents would be killed during the Holocaust leaving Max the only survivor of his family. After the war he would go on to work at a psychiatric hospital alongside Charles Xavier who he met during this time and would become close friends. Remnants of forces that had invaded Magnus's country during WW2 attacked the hospital and kidnapped a patient, Xavier and Magnus rescued her fighting back against the enemy forces and revealing their powers to each other for the first time. Charles and Magnus would go their separate ways thanks to differing beliefs, Charles forming the X-Men and becoming Professor X while Magnus formed the Brotherhood of Mutants becoming Magneto. Magneto is also the father of Pietro and Wanda Maximoff who you'll know from the MCU. All of this is what was shown in the 90s X-Men Animated Series through flashbacks, recaps, and information provided to us by Magneto and Charles. Summed up... Magneto needs a hug :(

2024-09-10 13:02:43 +0000 UTC1.) Remy and Rogue have flirted several times in the original cartoon. They even kissed once in the season 2 finale when they thought they were gonna die. They survived that ordeal, but nothing ever really flourished because Rogue never wanted to label them like Remy said. While she would call him “swamp rat,” Logan would also call him “gumbo” and “Cajun”. Remy’s last words were also his battle taunt/catchphrase. 2.) Rogue’s stepmom who was actually Mystique was also Kurt’s biological mother. That’s something that was touched upon in season 4 which was also Kurt’s debut in the cartoon. 3.) In the same season, his first encounter was specifically with Remy, Rogue, and Wolverine during their adventure in the Alps. He was a member of a Chapel in Germany, and through this first encounter he helped Logan find faith. Adrian Hough got to voice Kurt again. 4.) The place Magneto taught her from was called Savage Land. It was introduced in season 2. He found it at one point and establish it as his first mutant sanctuary before he worked on Asteroid M. 5.) The song they played when Rogue and Magneto were dancing was Happy Nation performed by the Swedish pop group Ace of Base. I first heard of them through a song called The Sign, and not too long ago, I also heard their song Don’t Turn Around playing on KOST 103.5. Happy Nation pretty much describes this scenario quite well given that Genosha is that nation and Magneto is the leader of his own Brotherhood. 6.) Retcon spotted. It’s regarding Sebastian Shaw. You met a version of him in First Class portrayed by Kevin Bacon. In the fourth season, he and his fellow Inner Circle members including Emma Frost attempted to manipulate Jean (or Madelyne?) so they can also by extension control the Phoenix. The whole thing backfired, and the last thing Shaw said before escaping was that the Inner Circle would have their revenge. Now here they are. They returned and are pretty much acting like nothing happened. 7.) Speaking of First Class, you may also remember Moira MacTaggert and Sean Kassidy/Banshee. The cartoon version of Moira also dated Charles at one point, but they eventually broke up and she ended up marrying Sean. The movie version of him never even had feelings for Moira, but he does share his screeching ability with his cartoon counterpart. 8.) What’s ironic is that Remy’s original voice actor returned in the same episode his character died. In the 90’s, Remy was voiced by Chris Potter. They brought him back, but now he voices Nathan Summers/Cable. And if you’re wondering what happened to Nathan’s original voice actor, they already brought him back for a different role. Lawrence Bayne voiced X-ecutioner.
