FIRST TIME WATCHING: My Neighbor Totoro (Patreon Exclusive!)

Happy Feature Friday Folks!

It's time for another Patreon-exclusive anime reaction with My Neighbor Totoro! I decided to release this one to ALL Patrons (regardless of tier). Happy Holidays!

This one was so sweet and I could see how it would be so beautiful to watch with the family. It wasn't my favorite of the Ghibli films, but I still had a great time.

I look forward to watching more fun content with you all next week. As always, thank you for your support here on Patreon. Until the next one, have a great weekend and stay golden :)

You'll love "Your Name" and "Belle" They're my favorite

When this first came out in theaters, I believe it was part of a double feature of this film and Graveyard of the Fireflies. I normally try to avoid Graveyard of the Fireflies, but it's interesting witnessing how different people react to it though. Definitely can't wait to watch that with you!

That scene of the tress growing still amazes me. Very well animated, so many angles, jus a beast of a shot. Granny gonna chain down Mei for now on. lol

Peanutx777

Huuuuuuuuuge yes!

cool fact!

Attack on TItan would be an excellent Patreon exclusive anime series. One of the most popular anime reaction series and it's an incredible fun series.

RawrSaur

Oh my gosh, wow!! That video's incredible! Had a great time watching that. :)

I'm stoked that we're watching a Patreon exclusive! :) It's always nice to watch things not made for YouTube. :) lmao, I loved Spirited Away. This should be a good watch. Definitely an easier watch than the previous Ghibli films. lmao - yup! Dakota and Elle both - yeah! This is so appropriate for this time of year. I've got no idea on who's singing this at the start. She sounds beautiful though, for sure. :) The animation in this is amazing! Very beautiful art throughout! Though that's to be expected with anything that's Japanese animation. I feel nothing but joy with these kids! I LOVED this movie so much! This was my first time with this and yeah, I was smiling throughout. :) Really did enjoy the movie! Definitely not a deep movie but one that we as an audience can just enjoy. Obviously one for the kids. Tugged at heartstrings and had a scare or two in the movie as well. :) Whatever though - amazing watch. I'm very happy to be subbed on here so I know about it, because I feel that this is one that many would enjoy watching with you. Anyway, yeah normally I write commentary as I watch along but not with this one. I just wanted to absorb the movie and enjoy the ride. I'm glad that I made that choice. :) Looking forward to more Penguin and other things! :)

You wash before you get in the bath so you’re not soaking in dirty water. Nice reaction, this is a great choice for when you need to entertain small children because it so relaxed in its pacing.

Fun Fact: This was one of Ghibli's first releases, in Japan it was initially in theaters as a double feature, when they also released.... Grave of the Fireflies. From the wiki... "After writing and filming Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984) and Castle in the Sky (1986), Hayao Miyazaki began directing My Neighbor Totoro for Studio Ghibli. Miyazaki's production paralleled his colleague Isao Takahata's production of Grave of the Fireflies. Miyazaki's film was financed by executive producer Yasuyoshi Tokuma, and both My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies were released on the same bill in 1988. The dual billing was considered "one of the most moving and remarkable double bills ever offered to a cinema audience".[14]"

While previously pasted, and I do feel bad for doing so; Knowing that value added to the enjoyment/appreciation of Miyazaki experience might be shared. [with little to no spoilers] This technical breakdown, I believe only enhances the perspective that you provide. Again Thank you. https://youtu.be/jM6PPxN1xas?si=RYIp5GL4zDLLPlt7

Thank you so much. Your perspective is truly appreciated. Yes the "Grins" are very "Cheshire". You seemed spot on with the sister vibe. Though I was surprised that you didn't comment once about the the background animation. [apologetic reply to follow] You are correct; Relatively speaking this hits much harder if you have Children and/or have ever had someone close to you in the hospital with cancer. Again thank you. This was a needed highlight for this week!

Taff Lewis

Yes! for older viewers... He Starred in a sitcom called "Wings" with Steven Weber and Thomas Haden Church. His Sister Tyne Starred in "Judging Amy" and "Cagney & Lacey"

Insufferable is wild 😜

Crispin

Not something I normally watch.... but it's good to go out of your comfort zone sometimes. It was interesting I liked the story I do agree it does seem more for kids, but it is a learning experience to guide and teach people there are different ways people cope with stress. This to me this was coping with a sick parent as a young child. I know others will have different opinions but that's what so great about movies like this. As I think about it more imagination will ease even the worst fears in life. I just hope people's imaginations keep growing to put out great content for people that find it hard to find their imagination as they get older. Thank you, Natalie, for sharing.

I just went to watch your YouTube reaction to The Wild Robot and it's blocked in the UK. I hope you haven't had a strike for it !!!!

Baggie Mark

The first half of the movie was insufferable. It got better towards the end but this is my least favorite of Ghibli’s quieter movies. I’d take Kiki or even Whisper of the Heart over this one.

Dooly

Tim Daly who plays the father was the voice of Superman in the 90s when I was growing up and he’s the voice I hear in my head when I read comics still. Always throws me off when I put this movie on.

djKENTO

My daughters fav film, and my 4th fav from studio Ghibli 😊

Crispin

Good excuse to finally watch it for the first time myself!

Bryan

30 minutes into the reaction: Nat is not entertained by these kids at all hahaha... but seriously this brought back childhood memories

Lukas Weimar

It was made for kids like 7ish, so obviously not gonna have the impact of Spirited Away. But it’s still so good in many ways. I loved that the wind is basically a living character throughout.

Gavinmc

Right in time for the holidays! This really is a special movie to watch together with the family and bring everyone's spirit up

Edward Rahardjo

Darryl Low
