Yeah, access denied for me as well.

I believe the link is no longer working. Says access is denied.

Eamon Vegt

I'm so confused with this. Is there another cut of this movie other than the theatrical and extended cut? Both versions on HBOmax do not sync up.

Hey im new here! Hi if this comment is seen, what version of Lord of the Rings movies did you watch? The extended or the theatrical? So i know which one to load up on my end.

LightsCameraJake

The time line is wonky between bilbo's birthday party and rivendell.

Then wait a year to watch the second one. I remember those years fondly waiting for the next one to come out lol.

Drzergberg

How do I silence the movie on your video? If I play my own copy beside, they'll echo. I'd rather watch mine since it has deep sound and isn't mirrored.

The "monsters being born out of the ground" are Uruk-Hai... basically orc/human hybrids created by Saruman to overcome the limitations of normal orcs: orcs usually shun daylight and aren't large in stature. Uruks were stronger, larger and not affected by daylight. Consider them "super orcs". Saruman really wanted to supplant Sauron and he intended to use his Uruk-Hai as super soilders to defeat Sauron once the humans, dwarves and elves were defeated. Tangential: orcs were created by captured and corrupted elves from the First Age. That's why elves have an inherent dislike of orcs. It's also why all elvish weapons glow when orcs are nearby.

Sword Monkey

I always felt like Boromir's negative side was made too much of a focus in the Fellowship movie. In the books you get a really well nuanced character who fell to the temptation of the ring because of his desire to protect the weak.

NIKSEEN

How to not be mean..... so if we can track better your reactions on Youtube then on Patreon then why Patreon you? Sorry, Loved your original reactions and waited so long for this drop but IvY and guessing is not worth the wait!

Joshua Frydenlund

I absolutely love how rich these stories are and it definitely makes me want to read his books. I probably would be a little lost without captions at times, but I think it's so easy to get sucked into the story and these characters without even knowing what some words may mean. The way these films were executed and the plot structure do such a good job of inviting you in.

Natalie Gold

Watching someone watch this without too much knowledge of the story is a joy to watch when they are enjoying the movies. I have seen too many younger people not be able to get through these because the story is too much for them. Tolkien is a study unto himself. These movies are actually shortened versions of the complete story and they are all collectively only a small part of the world building Tolkien did. Amazon is coming out with the series based around the beginning of the Age of Men and should be around the people that Aragorn and his line of people come from. LOTR is mostly a reflection of Tolkien's experience in the war. There are many things the ring may symbolize like industry, the nuclear weapon or anything that if evil obtains could bring the world to its knees. The Hobbits are the simple folk most of us are and the true hero of Tolkien's is Sam. The theme that the greatest of us are the simplest of us is really important to Tolkien.

Robert Kelly

fantastic reaction videos - both the short and ultra longs. Thank you so much for sharing!

About the hair Gimli asks from Galadriel - In the Silmarillion, Tolkien talks about Feanor, arguably the greatest elf to ever live and a master smith to boot. And Feanor asks Galadriel 3 times for a single hair, presumably to craft something as the sight of her golden hair inspired his creation of the Silmarils (The greatest jewels ever, containing and made of light. Basically all the early history of Middle Earth revolves around them). But Galadriel refused him 3 times, because she knows the darkness in his heart. So when Gimli asks her for a hair for no other reason than he thinks she's beautiful, she decides to not only give him what she denied the greatest elf who ever lived, but three times that. Says alot about Gimli's heart, I think.

Agreed

What a powerful performance Bernard Hill gave at the grave of Théodred. Always made me cry. I was crying before the scene started.

SleeplessHours

I like the idea! but for the sake of continuity and appeal to the zeitgeist I'd definitely see the current MCU as a good starting point

Natalie, you say you’d like to do the Marvel movies at some point. I love the Marvel movies. The only issue is there’s 20 of them and they are quite recent. That’s a lot to watch! I would estimate your subscribers are probably on average a few years older than you and are enjoying a younger person liking classic movies from their youth. If you go down the superhero route, and want to continue with your excellent trend of classic older blockbusters, I think the best superhero movie to start with are Superman (1978) and Superman 2 (1980). These are the first ever superhero films and the ones that started it all. They were filmed together so they are really like one movie. They have the iconic John Williams music and are really the entry point for superhero movies (the 3rd and 4th are terrible don’t worry about them) but the first two are fantastic, and very nostalgic. If you haven’t seen them, I recommend them as the entry point for Superhero films. No matter how many subsequent Superman movies there have been, Christopher Reeve, to this day remains the iconic true Superman.

Daniel Green

That's a good idea! Thank you!

Natalie Gold

One way I can think of to do stand-alone films to break up film series, but still have a theme is to do directors. What would you think of that? So, for example, you could do Martin Scorsese, and then you could do a few of his stand-alone films, like Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Casino. Or Kathryn Bigelow, who would give you Point Break, The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. A final suggestion might be Ron Howard, so you could have Willow, Parenthood, Frost/Nixon and Apollo 13. David Fincher, Steven Spielberg and Spike Lee are some other great still working directors whose work you could explore over at least a few films. Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work, Natalie!

Andy Jordan

That would be a fun one! If you ever want to lean back to Fantasy for a bit, I would love to see a reaction to The NeverEnding Story! It might also be fun to revisit Middle Earth sometime and do The Hobbit trilogy, though I would definitely take a break for a couple months from Middle Earth.

What’s your plan after Alien, Natalie? You’re getting so much advice on what to watch it must be overwhelming. Are you going to focus on pop-culture iconic movies from a couple of decades ago? I think this is good as these movies had huge box office success and will bring lots of views to your channel. Movies with broad appeal. The most logical series that fits the trend of the ones you’ve watched so far is the Back To The Future series, but maybe you’ve already seen that.

Daniel Green

That's the goal! Processing has been taking a while, but should be tonight unless something happens with Google Drive

Natalie Gold

Hopefully tomorrow but Ill be refreshing throughout the night 😁

Chris Porter

I was so sad when I heard. Such a great actor from Lord of the Rings to Alien to the 5th Element. RIP Ian Holm

Matthew Davis

The edited 3/3 version just dropped on youtube. Is the full version on patreon also coming today?

Garren Haskell

This felt especially fitting to watch in light of Ian Holm's passing. RIP, Bilbo.

Troy B.

Dont be. Its perfectely fine. Excited!

Robin Fredriksson

Ahh looks like it will be tomorrow. So sorry! Was aiming to get it out today, but my computer is having trouble processing the file :P

Natalie Gold

I saw this once too at a friends house watching that scene, I think it depends on the release.

Erik Lundmark

I hope Two Towers comes today. Have a long work shift to kill :)

Robin Fredriksson

Really enjoyed rewatching this movie and seeing your reactions! Only problem was that I couldn't see the subtitles when they were speaking elvish ):

I've always hoped that when I have a daughter, my wife will agree to name her Arwen.

I agree haha it was such a funny remark. I'm Canadian and I thought it was quite the compliment!

Great suggestion! I had so much fun watching this a couple of weeks ago. John Rhys-Davies cracks me up so much haha

So sorry, but I already watched it!

Natalie Gold

You will want to watch this cast reunion, not necessarily to react to it, once you finish the last of the three LOTR movies. It’s spectacular. https://youtu.be/l_U0S6x_kCs

Nathan Dickson

Cool...Before you watch the latest movie "Return of the king" - make a reaction to its trailer please

"Hobbit's are like Canadians" is a statement I'll never forget. It made me laugh out loud twice. Both on Youtube and here. Sincerely enjoying your content. Thanks for the fun!

Thomas Stark

Would love to see you react to the bonus behind the scenes stuff for LOTR... it is soooo good haha!

I found some lore on Gandalf and the Balrog that was interesting..........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqsHfeICf1I&list=FLfe3ln6K7oJNkBpmcoMas6g&index=2&t=5s

Just finished this; Wow don't be embarrassed about not retaining or picking up names or places throughout, people like me read the books growing up and many of us I bet have watched these movies many, many times. One thing I just thought of is the fact that you bought the extended version: If they came with the "Additional Materials" Bonus Features, I highly recommend you watch them sometime on your own, on a rainy day perhaps. I Love LOTR, but I would place the bonus features over the movies, they're That good. I bet people who've watched them would agree they're the best "Making of" made for a movie, ever. If you do, it's another 9-12 hours :-) (they were on the extended dvd set, not 100% sure if they come on the blueray thou)

Erik Lundmark

I"m still floored by how amazing the score by Howard Shore is...

Joits

Just finished watching your part one and part two of LOTR The Two Towers on YouTube! Can NOT wait to see the full react 😂 its hilarious when you get wild theories about wamhats happening. Your smart, funny, and have a great smile!! Keep on rockin! 😎

NobleSon32

My friend sang Into the West for her senior recital in college whilst I accompanied on guitar. It was magical.

mrhalfbit

You don't make people sync on Vimeo. Bless you!

Will Whiton

I mentioned this in the youtube comments already but there are so many comments there I was worried you may not see it so I am reposting (I apologize if you have seen it already!) When the time comes, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the song "Into the West" which plays at the end of Return of the King. Personally, I never skip that section of the credits because the song is just so beautiful. I love to just sit and listen while I let the end of the movie sink in. I've watched a LOT of youtubers react to these movies, and none have mentioned that song. If you don't get to it, oh well, I'm enjoying your reactions a lot either way! I really appreciate how invested you get in the characters and the story.

Yay! Welcome!! And yes I definitely meant the Canadian comment as a compliment haha

Natalie Gold

I'm honored haha

Natalie Gold

You honestly look like Frodo's fraternal twin. It's uncanny! :)

napalm755

I understand at first glance the gift for Gimli is a bit daft, however in the books its made more clear: This is Gimli's first reaction to Galadriel (book 2, chapter 7): She looked upon Gimli, who sat glowering and sad, and she smiled. And the Dwarf, hearing the names given in his own ancient tongue, looked up and met her eyes; and it seemed to him that he looked suddenly into the heart of an enemy and saw there love and understanding. Wonder came into his face, and then he smiled in answer. Gimli himself explains why he wants a strand of hair: ‘Treasure it, Lady,’ he answered, ‘in memory of your words to me at our first meeting. And if ever I return to the smithies of my home, it shall be set in imperishable crystal to be an heirloom of my house, and a pledge of good will between the Mountain and the Wood until the end of days.’ You'll see more of that in book 3 chapter 2, when Gimli reacts to Éomer's less-than-gushing description of Galadriel: You speak evil of that which is fair beyond the reach of your thought, and only little wit can excuse you. In short, Gimli is smitten.

Soooooo excited for this!

smarie

Yes!! I've been lurking, hoping you were planning to share a longer version than the YouTube one. Thanks for letting me experience the film for the first time again with you!

Naomi Schoenfeld

Building out more of the world is what the books are about. And now that she's watching them, and I through her, I have a need to go back and read them again.

Texadan

And he is not human. He's a Maiar. But you have to cross reference the appendices in RotK with the Silmarillion to get that.

Texadan

Already watched the short versions, and about to watch the long now!

Watching these reactions takes me back to when I first saw the movies in theatres, nearly two decades ago! I think I will watch these reactions exclusively here - on Patreon - and ignore the too-short YouTube versions. I loved your Star Wars reactions, and once I heard you were doing The Lord of the Rings, I signed up! And, as a Canadian, I am not at all offended! Also... there are more tears ahead.

TorontoHobbit

I loved both of these. I've been a Vimeo subscriber for years. I left a comment or two there.

Texadan

Probably an unpopular opinion but I actually enjoy watching the theatrical cut of these films more than the extended. Not that the extended is bad by any means, just that I feel the theatrical cuts are more streamlined and focused. Most of the added scenes for the extended versions are great for building out more of the world and give nice moments between characters, but don't add a whole lot to the overall story. But for the overall experience I'd probably say just keep watching all the extended cuts and then if you ever want to re-watch maybe go for the shorter theatrical cuts and see if they're a little more easily digestible

A.J. Workman

What an amazing first time reaction. All the same feelings. And seeing someone watch the you shall not pass scene for the first time is priceless. You feel it through your whole body. Amazing. Thank you for this and I'm excited to see you watch the other two!

E

Fun fact: Gandalf is actually a keeper of one of the elven rings, but it's not really talked about in the movie

Chandler McCoy

totally agreed

Natalie Gold

Haha totally up to you! Sometimes my questions get answered by the time I finish the movie. Sometimes, I read the answers in the comments. As long as it's not a spoiler, I'm totally appreciative of any knowledge bombs in the comments!

Natalie Gold

Arrrrgh the wait for The Two Towers is going to be rough! Buy yourself a nice comfy movie chair for your channel and get to it! :D

Garren Haskell

Loved this reaction! Side question: would you like us to answer the questions you ask when you're watching the film (if it doesn't lead to spoilers) or are they just rhetorical?

Matt

As expected, great video(s) ! To go back to what you said about the actors being good and making you cry, I would say the music also plays a really big part in it (Howard Shore's a genius). And the cinematography. And the dialogues. It's pretty much a whole lol. Oh and side note, the actor playing Saruman also plays Count Dooku

TinaKittenIsBae

Ah, interesting little tidbit that few people know, Arwen (Liv Tyler), Aragorn's love interest, is actually Lady Galadriel (Cate Blanchett)'s granddaughter in the lore

TheDistur6edGuy

Just became a patreon when I saw you are doing full length reactions. Keep it up, this is my favorite trilogy of all time.

Drew

Greetings from Norway to you, Natalie! It's so great to re-experience the greatest trilogy of all time together with you! I love your reactions. As Doplex above said - it does really feel a bit like discovering this magical universe for the first time again. Looking forward to Two Towers now :)

Mikal Toresen

Side note: Robert Plant was a big fan of the LotR books. You can hear references to them in lyrics to several Led Zeppelin songs.

MotoDork

I'm sooo excited for you to experience this journey. And we'll be right there along with you, laughing and crying. Despairing and cheering. Let's do this!!

Garren Haskell

Haha most of the time I just cut stuff because my dog was barking or I was sneezing/fidgeting too much. In the beginning I cut a little more so my computer could process the videos as my computer's a little older and has trouble processing these larger files

Natalie Gold

I love watching these reactions. When I see people actually care about these films adn get emotional it feels a bit like watching it again for the first time

Nice ! :D

TinaKittenIsBae

I'm very interested to hear how you decide what to keep in the react videos and what to cut - Especially in these longer videos :)

Danishprince

WOOOO! So excited for this - Time to spend all evening watching <3

Danishprince

woo hoo. Joined your patreon looking forward to these. Can't wait to watch them!

YESSSS IM SO EXCITED
