Is this the correct order to watch Firefly?
Added 2020-09-02 20:23:34 +0000 UTCHi guys!
I've heard from a few of you that Firefly is best to view in the chronological order. Can y'all help me and confirm that this below order is correct? Starting with Serenity and ending with Objects in Space? Thanks for the help and can't wait to start this new series with you all!
"Serenity", "The Train Job", "Bushwhacked", "Shindig", "Safe", "Our Mrs. Reynolds", "Jaynestown", "Out of Gas", "Ariel", "War Stories", "Trash", "The Message", "Heart of Gold", and "Objects in Space"
Comments
If she falls in love with Firefly like I hope, she'll really want to watch the Serenity movie. Even if it's only to see the characters one more time.

2020-09-18 13:02:30 +0000 UTCI know you wrote this a week ago, but I had to say this anyway. I think it depends on what you mean by release order. Firefly was shot with episodes in a particular order, but Fox decided to play them out of order for who knows what reason. It's just one of the reasons why the show failed to find a footing. They did it to another show called Keen Eddie, which they also canceled mid first season. So normally, I agree with release order when you're talking about something like Star Wars, but if you're talking about something that got fucked over by the network, you go with the order they were *supposed* to be released. Writers try to do character development for a reason. It usually makes for a better story. (Edited for typos and cuz I hit enter too early.)

2020-09-16 01:18:43 +0000 UTCHi, please , please watch the movie Serenity when you have watched the series, it’s one hell of a ride,

2020-09-15 16:53:03 +0000 UTCThe Clone Wars is better in chronological order. The Clone troop episodes make a lot more sense that way, as do some with the bounty hunter. That's how I watched it and I'm glad I did.

2020-09-13 03:38:26 +0000 UTCOMG who in the world thinks this is a good idea?? The ONLY way to watch any show or series of movies is release order. EVER.

2020-09-08 23:40:37 +0000 UTCI'm not too worried she will want to watch the movie after watching through the series. If she didn't, she wouldn't be the Natalie Gold that we love.

2020-09-03 15:53:34 +0000 UTCMildly convoluted answer: Serenity (the episode - 2002) was intended as pilot/prequel. It's longer, but still part of the original series. Not to be confused with Serenity (the movie - 2005) which gave the series its conclusion and it's a sequel to the series. Be sure to double check the "Serenity" you're gonna watch first.

2020-09-03 08:59:56 +0000 UTCSerenity is a part 1 & 2. Not the movie Serenity. Also if you have the physical DVDs there are a couple of easter eggs worth finding... as long as you like the show.

2020-09-03 05:58:15 +0000 UTCBummer that Buffy can’t get more votes as I think you’d probably enjoy it the most out of your current selections. Firefly isn’t a bad substitute tho.

2020-09-03 04:28:33 +0000 UTCAnd then the movie Serenity if you'd so wish, since there're fairly few episodes of the show. Be nice doing the full episode watchalong with this, been a while since I watched Firefly.

2020-09-03 01:57:54 +0000 UTCI even used the booklet in the DVD box to compare, and yep, that is the order.
Misty Crom
2020-09-03 01:55:58 +0000 UTCI agree. "Serenity" takes place after the series, so watch it last; otherwise there'll be some huge spoilers!

2020-09-03 01:49:16 +0000 UTCYes, just don’t accidentally watch Serenity the movie first, that comes chronologically last.

2020-09-02 23:22:14 +0000 UTCLet’s do it. I am prepared, browncoats ahoy!

2020-09-02 21:35:13 +0000 UTCI voted No because I was confused. I forgot that "Serenity" is also the name of the pilot episode

2020-09-02 21:24:48 +0000 UTCYou have the correct episode list, starting with the Pilot episode, Serenity. The MOVIE "Serenity" is essentially what would have been Season 2.
John
2020-09-02 21:11:04 +0000 UTCThis is considered the proper order per Joss and other writers/producers/fans.

2020-09-02 20:57:51 +0000 UTCSerenity the movie is a must watch whence you complete the series in the order list above. I look forward to revisiting this series again, but in a new way while enjoying the reactions and comments from the golden gang.

2020-09-02 20:53:39 +0000 UTC"Serenity" was the original 2-hour pilot, but after it was submitted to Fox, they asked for another episode with "more action". So Joss Whedon and Tim Minear wrote "The Train Job" over a weekend, and that became the new pilot as far as Fox was concerned. That is why, if you watch the "Serenity" pilot first, you will see a sort of "reintroduction" of the characters in "The Train Job". But it's not too jarring. You should definitely watch the episode "Serenity" first.
Sam Kimpton
2020-09-02 20:48:51 +0000 UTCYes, just as long as you know that "Serenity " the episode is the premier, and "Serenity " the movie is basically the finale. Ive seen people watch the movie first and they were very confused. Haha

2020-09-02 20:47:55 +0000 UTCWhat they said.

2020-09-02 20:36:39 +0000 UTCAlso fox thought Train job had more action in it and would draw more viewers into the series.
Gary Poussard
2020-09-02 20:34:38 +0000 UTCYes, they should be viewed in the order they exist on the blurays and as listed on the Wikipedia page for the series(I'm guessing that whatever streaming service currently has the show uses the same order). After watching the series, then I HIGHLY recommend watching the "Serenity" theatrical film(yes, it has the same name as the pilot episode of the series).
Patrick Egan
2020-09-02 20:33:54 +0000 UTCSerenity the episode not the movie. The movie is last but you probably already knew that. Fox did do it out of order.
Robert Kelly
2020-09-02 20:31:09 +0000 UTCFunny how when the series aired, the pilot episode "Serenity" aired last. The network executives couldn't wrap their heads around the show and had Joss Whedon write scenes for "The Train Job" to make it feel like a pilot episode. Definitely start with the "Serenity" pilot.
Joe Jeffords
2020-09-02 20:30:38 +0000 UTCThis is correct in terms of TV episodes yes, and I can confirm some peoples' confusion over "Serenity" as it is a name shared by both the GENUINE (two-part) Pilot episode, and by the follow-up film. So, in a rather Zen-like coincidence, your wonderful journey through the magical browncoated Firefly universe will both begin and end in a state of utter Serenity 😊 (It would be nice if you could confirm, Natalie, whether you intend to follow-up watching the 14 episodes of the TV series by watching the 2005 "Serenity" movie. You really should, it pulls together and ties up all loose ends from the curtailed TV run - DAMN YOU FOX! 😒 - as well as making all us dedicated browncoats* shed a tear fro what might have been... 😢 ) * Browncoats = the chosen name for all die-hard Firefly fans. You'll soon work out why.

2020-09-02 20:28:46 +0000 UTCYou will be SO upset Fox let this show end after just one season (where they messed with the order and time slot enough to kill it)
weirdTangent
2020-09-02 20:28:42 +0000 UTCI’m so used to going off the order that came in the DVD boxset
Flick Freaks
2020-09-02 20:28:35 +0000 UTCYes! Serenity the episode, not the movie! I know everybody else has said it, but it really can't be said enough. 🤣 The episode not the movie. Don't watch the end of the story before the beginning!
Will
2020-09-02 20:28:31 +0000 UTCNo no no!!!! The first episode of the series is ALSO called "Serenity"!! Her chronological order is correct. Then, she should watch the motion picture called "Serenity" at the end :-)
Daniel Gauvreau
2020-09-02 20:27:55 +0000 UTCOh yeah. I keep forgetting that.
Flick Freaks
2020-09-02 20:27:53 +0000 UTCSame thing a lot of the other comments are saying, as long as the movie Serenity is last, you're good.
Ron K
2020-09-02 20:27:49 +0000 UTCThere is a movie after the series, Serenity (2005) which happens after the last episode. This is different than the TV episode of the same name. Plan to finish with the movie.
beetle
2020-09-02 20:27:34 +0000 UTC"Serenity" is also the name of the pilot, which IMDB lists as ep 11.
michael mccafferty
2020-09-02 20:26:54 +0000 UTCYep, this is it. The same running order as on the dvds is the right way to do it.
Mac McNeely
2020-09-02 20:26:40 +0000 UTCDepends on if you mean Serenity the episode or the movie. Start with the episode. The movie happens after the series Other than that, chronological order.
Oouga
2020-09-02 20:26:36 +0000 UTCThe first episode of the series is also called Serenity, (parts 1 and 2 I think). You are correct though, the feature film titled: Serenity takes place after the series.
SendingRavens
2020-09-02 20:26:29 +0000 UTCThe pilot is called Serenity too
Patrick Mitchell
2020-09-02 20:26:12 +0000 UTCjust make sure "serenity" is the first episode and not the movie. same name. movie comes after the show. SO STOKED for this.
Jordan Tully
2020-09-02 20:26:01 +0000 UTCSerenity is also the name of the pilot episode.
