FIRST TIME WATCHING: Firefly Ep. 4!!
Added 2020-09-30 21:24:53 +0000 UTCHey guys!
Here is my reaction to another episode of Firefly! This one brought such a big smile to my face. It was nice to watch a slightly more light hearted episode with a little less action.
As always, please let me know your thoughts in the comment section below and until the next one, ✨stay golden! ✨

I feel like the dance Mal and Inara do is the same as the dance in a knights tale. Also the 2nd takes over for Mal if Mal runs away, is injured and can't fight, or dies before the duel.

2021-11-27 18:43:14 +0000 UTCThe duelling code seems to be somewhat based on the european duelling of the Napoleonic period. A punch in the face would absolutely have been grounds for a duel, potentially to the death. "A gentlemen must always resent a blow." I think the point they're making is the same as the elaborate, courtly courtesy that were practiced by the upper class at the time. Modern people mock them as prissy and stuck up, but the rich and powerful were descended from warrior nobility, and had prickly pride. People were so carefully polite, because being impolite could literally make someone kill you. The duel is early, and by a pond because duelling in the Napoleonic time was sort of illegal, if rarely enforced. they would pick quiet, out of the way places, often near parish or state lines ready to leave if the 'police' came. I think we're meant to compare the rich of the Firefly world in just those terms - careful courtesy, in order to avoid giving people like Atherton the excuse to murder you. Meanwhile, Badger the criminal lowlife is fairly affable and happy to trade insults, nobody gets hurt by him and his men.

2021-06-07 23:54:58 +0000 UTCIt's just the fourth episode but its so easy to see how easily viewers take to these characters, their relationships... just really one of the best shows ever.

2021-03-31 05:37:43 +0000 UTCYes, I agree with you. My statement is hyperbole. But I really didn't like the movie. It is definitely high quality, I have no quibbles with the craft, but I did not enjoy the experience of watching it. I saw the proposal for Natalie to watch it and had a visceral reaction. No disrespect intended to anybody who did like it.

2020-10-05 23:44:02 +0000 UTCMy reaction might have something to do with the fact that I watched that movie with my mom (and dad) who were like seventy something at the time, and all I knew about it going in was that it was a thriller. (I picked the movie) It was a bit intense for the setting and I really didn't like the movie. And to be fair, it is really pretty gross, don't you think? I get that it is effective at ratcheting up the tension throughout the movie and the actors are really very good, but the story is contrived and in service of what? But again, I know that I am the only person (aside from my wife and my mother) who feels this way about the movie.

2020-10-05 23:38:11 +0000 UTCyeah i disagree with you Johnathan. SE7EN is pretty good.

2020-10-05 21:57:35 +0000 UTCSe7en has a few graphic parts but it is wrap in a good story.

2020-10-05 02:53:24 +0000 UTCTorture porn?! C'mon, that's a pretty big overstatement, don't you think? Not once during the movie do you see the victims die on-screen. Now, something like HOSTEL or HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, those flicks would qualify as torture porn.

2020-10-03 06:42:01 +0000 UTCGod I hated Se7en. It's just torture porn pretending it has something to say. Apparently I'm the only one that thinks this though.

2020-10-03 03:10:18 +0000 UTCIt is on my list! And thank you!

2020-10-02 03:30:44 +0000 UTCThis is probably my favorite episode, though honestly I'd say most are great! Glad you're loving the show. Can't wait for you to finish the season and watch the movie.

2020-10-02 02:34:12 +0000 UTClove this episode. maybe this'll help with the "10 am problem": I always took it as him coming to tell her something just to see who her client is gonna be. and so it was her way of saying get the hell out of my shuttle in a way where they both know she sees right through him. anyway looking forward to the next episode! keep up the great content!

2020-10-02 02:00:04 +0000 UTCGreat reaction, As always. Just wondering, after what you said about this just being one season. It’s true, but has anyone told you or do you know that there is a film that was made after this was taken off the air? It’s titled Serenity.

2020-10-01 12:11:52 +0000 UTCThis episode is where the comedy skills of the cast and quality of the writing really starts to show itself. It boggles the mind that Fox chose to air the episodes in the order that they did. I am not convinced that airing them properly would have made a difference, it is a niche inside of a niche show; but it could have had a chance.

2020-10-01 08:49:04 +0000 UTCYay! Another Firefly reaction! I figured you'd like this one, as it focused somewhat on Kaylee as well as Mal & Inara's relationship. Much more your taste than a Reaver sneaking around the ship. I'm looking forward to the next episode you react to, plus the spooky movies coming up soon.

2020-10-01 05:15:08 +0000 UTCSpeaking of "Serenity". Today marks the 15th anniversary of the film's release.

2020-10-01 03:31:55 +0000 UTCOh one more. A HEMA instructor recently reviewed the sword fight on YouTube. You can watch it here https://youtu.be/tVgD7wY9hhE

2020-10-01 03:24:38 +0000 UTCThis is a favorite Kaylee episode of mine. River reading Badger as quickly as she did is a favorite as well. The sword fight and fuels in general was still around less than 100 years ago. Bowie knife duals were a thing in some southern states. The real life girl mannequins is still done today. From live mannequins for clothing to red light district girls in Amsterdam.

2020-10-01 03:23:33 +0000 UTCKaylee and the guys at the ball got me the biggest smile out of the entire series.

2020-10-01 02:25:29 +0000 UTCI loved your reaction when Kaylee found her click at the shindig. Can't wait to see how you like episode 7 and 8. Two of my favourites😁 Stay Golden Gurl, thanks for all the time you put in to make these for us

2020-10-01 02:14:42 +0000 UTCLove this episode. It really speaks to the romantic in me, even through all the thick layers of cynicism on top. The "It's 10am" issue at the beginning is just Inara's way of telling Mal to buzz off, after he told her it'd be 10am on Persephone when they arrive.

2020-10-01 01:21:10 +0000 UTCA mighty fine shindig. A great Mal, Inara, and Kaylee episode to boot. I love that the crew will not hesitate to let even the Captain know he overstepped his bounds. When even Zoe gives him the cold-shoulder, he knows he stepped in it.

2020-09-30 22:56:46 +0000 UTC"Shindig" is one of my personal favorite episodes. Fun bit of trivia: Jewel Staite, who plays Kaylee, has said that IRL she hates strawberries.

2020-09-30 22:48:03 +0000 UTCHi Natalie!! Pleaaaaaaase don't forget to watch the movie "Serenity" once you finish the series!! I'm delighted to see you react to the series but the culminating point will certainly be the movie at the end of all this! Well, I'm certainly looking forward to that reaction :-) Thanks!

2020-09-30 22:45:28 +0000 UTCAnd we get another glimpse into River. I love how she completely reads him from just one or two sentences.

2020-09-30 22:38:26 +0000 UTCShould be a fun watch. Looking forward to you viewing the "Our Mrs. Reynolds" episode soon. Arguably, one of the most quotable of the series.

2020-09-30 22:11:55 +0000 UTCWith the way you reacted to the first three episodes, I'd figured you'd really like this one. It's a lot of fun and you really get to love the characters. How long before you start lamenting the show's untimely demines? It's bittersweet learning to love a show, knowing that there is only so little new to watch.

2020-09-30 22:11:48 +0000 UTCThis has one of my favorite interactions between Mal and Inara, right at the beginning when he pick pockets the slave trader and shows Inara, she says "Mal!" judgingly, while stuffing the money in her bra.
