Which movie should I watch after Iron Man 2?

Help me decide which movie to watch next! I want to take a dive into the fantasy genre for this one!

Comments

Ghibli, always Ghibli, especially over Disney. Now, if you are going to do an anime series, Cowboy Bebop is the logical choice.

David of the North

hey Natalie, just a recommendation, but you should put a time limit on how long the polls are open to vote on, so we know when you've made a decision on the winner. I believe there's a feature that let's you keep the poll open to vote on for a specific number of days.

After watching the Star Wars prequels, you're ready for watch the music video: "Weird Al" Yankovic - The Saga Begins. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEcjgJSqSRU

Kenny Teeology

This is true, you either love it or hate it.

Luis Rodriguez

I agree. In fact anime' is rather niche' and not in most people's wheelhouse. no matter how many fan vids are on Youtube.

Paul Gardner

Looks like Neverending Story is going to win this one. It wasn't my first choice but it was my close second. I saw this when it came out in the theaters. Should be fun.

PickettsChargingPort

She's already seen it.

Jack the Narrator

I recommend The Priness Bride, very good movie.

Travis

Okay so nerd consensus Watch Star Trek: space seed and then wrath of khan

Travis Bounds

The first and third of the reboot are good. The second one is just awful.

Thomas Malley

I'd love to see her start with Wrath of Kahn for Star Trek. So much of the new movies is inform.ed by those original films. Plus I think they're much better

Clearly not enough Ghibli fans in here. The other two films pale in comparison.

NobleSon32

I don't think k any polls do, but I agree it would be awesome if they did. 😉

Dena Nebergall

pls do star trek. you can start with the reboot movies! you'd like them

Travis Bounds

I dont understand why people recommend Miyazaki movies to get people into anime, they are boring and abstract, not the first impression you want.

Luis Rodriguez

Off topic: but what is Natalie’s Twitter? I missed the streams beginning today so I wondered if it was just tweeted.

Thomas Malley

If you've done the Alien movies, Predator would be a good follow up...assuming you haven't seen it of course.

Paul Gardner

Star Trek would be cool, but I wouldn't skip anything. There's some great stuff going on in the first one.

Robert Reichle

SPOILERS

John

If instead you wanne try an ST Series though, I would recommand look up one of the lists of best episodes, as release order is not thoroughly watchable... ;) like: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls061608628/

cosmic wave

Little Suggestion: It might be a little nerdy. But since you done the Star Wars it would be only fair to do a Star Trek as well, what you say? It's not done too often. Would suggest to start with Star Trek 2! (One is kind of a bit too celebral)

cosmic wave

My mom would read the Neverending story to me when I was little, I like to remember it, so this was an easy one!

cosmic wave

Amazing defined as "causing great surprise or wonder; astonishing" Surprise that it was green lit, wonder what the cast was thinkingwhen they signed up, and astonishment that it was aired in it's final version (including Chewbacca's dad's VR "experience"). But seriously, it's so ridiculous and crazy that I think every Star Wars fan should watch it once. The Ewok movies are terrible too but you get to hear Wilfred Brimley drop an F-bomb in a kids movie😆 Or at least watch the Honest Trailers video about them. Much less of a time sink and much funnier

Sarlacc1979

Unfortunately polls here don’t count enthusiasm. It would be neat if they did :)

Thomas Malley

And the fact it’s an almost all kids cast and they do well. It was unheard of at the time.

Thomas Malley

Don’t spoil it.

Thomas Malley

I don’t know if ‘amazing’ is the right word to use about the Star Wars holiday special. I mean it’s absolutely horrible. But it’s amazing in how so. Like who approved it? That kind of thing. I do too miss the pop sound. I thought it was so perfect and simple. Sounded like the pop of a wine bottle.

Thomas Malley

I hope you watch and enjoy The Neverending Story, it and many other weird sci-fi 80s movies heavily influenced kids in my generation. Since you enjoyed Star Wars but are exploring weirder sci-fi you should watch the two (yes two) Ewok tv movies and the Star Wars Holiday Special. They are... amazing, amazing in every sense of the word. I like your new title intro but I miss the *pop* noise from the old one 😢

Sarlacc1979

That's just mean.

Katrina Lehto

How to Train Your Dragon inches it for me. Great story, great characters, great music.

Darryl Low

I cried every time he went into the Swamp of Sadness as a kid... still do now, heh.

Kassandra Jeffery

Daniel Green

Halloween Sinister The Conjuring Annabelle The Nun The Thing Fright Night

Tony Hart

I’m dying for a reaction to DeadAlive (AKA Brain Dead) directed by Peter Jackson! It’s been in my Top 5 favorite movies for over 20 years. It would make a great Halloween movie to watch!

Pete Bowers

I'm a little to familiar with it! But maybe in the future

Natalie Gold

You should think about some Halloween movies to react to during October. (Don't necesserily need to be Horror movies.) A few Ideas: Coco Nightmare before Christmas Corpse Bride Beetlejuice Hocus Pocus Ghostbusters (the Original)

Red Claw

OMG I want to see her reaction to Never Ending Story! Such a powerful movie, at least when your 12 lol. Still makes grizzled old me all feelie today.

Getoff Mylawn

The Never Ending Story is more iconic in terms of a cult classic. The others are definitely better movies. But, there is no comparison to a classic 80s flick. Movies from the 80s could not be made today. Another classic 80s kid movie would be The Dark Crystal. Put that on the next poll please!

Christian Rennie

I love the book to much to vote for Howl's Moving Castle, but any of the others would be good.

Garrick Smalley

Since you love dogs how about a dog movie like Hachi: a Dogs Tale. I think YouTube watchers actually search for reactions to this movie

It Hurt A Lot

I think she said she's seen that?

Jason Dolan

Just remember to stock the reaction room with a box of tissues first

Tom Evans

If I could vote for The Neverending Story ten times, I would! 💗

Dena Nebergall

I haven't seen Never-Ending since I was a kid. I was 6 when it came out. It would be fun to see Natalie's reactions.

Travis

Those would be hard to vote on, I have seen all of them.

Travis

Forget the movie, I want to see her react to the song! Never-Ending Story is, after Star Wars, the movie of my childhood. So seeing it reviewed would mean a lot. If one of the others gets it, cool, have a reason to finally see a movie. But yeah, big time for Never-Ending Story. But stop with the original.

Matthew Periolat

I agree the score is great.

Thomas Malley

I also want to see her reaction to Never Ending Story.

Armchair Wizard

I voted for Neverending Story. I'd love to see Natalie's reactions to all the 80's fantasy adventures: Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, Legend, Krull, Willow

Jack the Narrator

I wouldn't put Mononoke necessarily first - but including something other than Spirited Away (which she's seen), would be appropriate. I personally would favor Laputa: Castle in the Sky.

Rudewalrus

Observing development of themes and styles is all well and good, but the Miyazaki films are all stand alone films, and I really don't think there is a compelling reason to watch them in a specific order. [Laputa: Castle in the Sky is still my favorite, though.]

Rudewalrus

Oh, c'mon man, don't be so negative. There are a lot of people like me, retired on a fixed income and in this coronavirus world we live in the computer and different things available help us keep the boredom away. The next thing I know my cable company will increase the cost of my internet. Life is rough.

GERALD TODD

Oh I'm surprised a Miyazaki movie doesn't get more votes ; well next time hopefully

TinaKittenIsBae

I'm sure if reactors aren't getting hit with copyright claims on patreon yet, it's only a matter of time.

Ken

100 percent agree with the entire statement!

TrackHoodie

OK. let me get this right. I am spending money to Patreon and Natalie to see her full reactions but in order to do that I must spend more money to various services to see the movies she is reacting to. It basically seems like a ripoff plan. The best I think I can do is cancel my subscription to Natalie and save some money. I am subscribed to 4 other Patreon reactors and I don't have to pay more to enjoy their reactions.

GERALD TODD

Pan's Labyrinth

warcrimes

I honestly can’t tell if it’s the nostalgia that make me watch it every other year, or if it’s a genuinely good movie that still holds up.

Thomas Malley

The labyrinth is in a league of its own.

Thomas Malley

This is the first time I’m holding my breath in one of these. But I just want to put it out there that it’s totally up to Natalie what she watches. I think it’s just to ask the patreons what they’d most like, but it in the end it’s up to her. That’s how I understood it at least.

Thomas Malley

Neverending Story is on Netflix and Amazon Prime. How to Train Your Dragon is on Amazon Prime. You can buy or rent those two and youtube as well. The Miyazaki movies are on HBO Max or you can buy them on Amazon Prime. If you don't have a particular service, just use the free trial or maybe a friend's account.

Ken

Come on How to train your dragon

Joel S

Only if I have access to the movie, for example, I don't have access to any of those listed above.

GERALD TODD

Princess Bride would also be a great one to watch

Scott Faye

one day, that'll be awesome.

Armchair Wizard

Would love to see Goodfellas

F H

If you're going Ghibli, then PRINCESS MONONOKE should be on such a list before any others.

Jimmy Crackcorn

Love both never Ending Story and How to Train Your Dragon, so it's a win-win! I think either of the 2 films will make for a great reaction! Don't care for Spirited Away and have never heard of Howls Moving Castle.

Can't believe the Studio Ghibli film are doing so poorly in the poll. I've seen Never Ending Story, seen clips of HTTYD, enough to know that neither of these films compare to the Miyazaki films. If you're voting for the other two films and have never seen any of the Studio Ghibli films, do your self a favor and start watching them as soon as you can.

Richard Maurer

Well, wasn't thinking all at once...but maybe in groups of 2 or 3? (IM, TIH, IM2.....Thor, Cap....Avengers....etc.)

Holly R

That list sounds like it really should have Labyrinth on it. So I'm just going to vote for that as secret option 5.

LudicDave

If you've never seen Neverending Story, then that's the one to see. It's a classic! If you go the Train Your Dragon route, realize it's a trilogy. If you intend to immerse yourself in Miyazaki, you have to start with the pre-Ghibli Castle of Cagliostro, then Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, then Castle in the Sky. That way you can observe the development of his themes and animation style. All the Miyazakis are treasures. If fantasy is what you're after, you should have put Willow on your list!

Alex Vazquez

I might have forgotten a bit about how to train your dragon. But I do remember it having an emotional impact. But I’ve rewatched neverending story way more.

Thomas Malley

I won’t argue that NES has a stronger, at least deeper root in pop-culture. And I’m 41, so it’s been in my life much longer that HTTYD. But Dragon just hits me on a much more powerful level, as a series. But that’s me! I think they are both fantastic and worthy of reactions!

Jesse Arnold

They are neck and neck. I hope she picks it despite the dragon maybe winning.

Thomas Malley

I’ll argue that never ending story holds a bigger cultural significance. But I’m also old now.

Thomas Malley

There’s only so much time in the world. It’s a LOT of movies to digest.

Thomas Malley

The neverending story is a children’s classic. How to train your dragon is a pretty good animated movie; but nothing special compared to the other choices on your list. It’s just newer and more popular.

Thomas Malley

I will gladly watch you react to any of these, but I would love the excuse of watching my first Studio Ghibli film with you.

The Hedge Knight

Also throwing my hat in the ring for Princess Mononoke, if you have not seen it yet! Would LOVE to see your reaction, it is my favorite Studio Ghibli film.

Holger Dewes

I put in a vote for Neverending Story... it's got relevance even in the non-geek community. I don't feel particularly strongly about it though.

David Wetzel

I would love to see your reaction to HTTYD! 😍

Bryce Allison

Yay! A win no matter which one you pick. 😄👍

Benjamin Preston

If you going to watch the rest of the Matrix trilogy you might as well get it over with... :) You may find the story more satisfying leaving it where you are... :)

David Wetzel

I had to go with Spirited Away since it is my favorite.

Katrina Lehto

Agreed. 100%! I mean, anime is beautiful but The NeverEnding Story is my jam. Dusty-buns and Susie-poo.

Dave M.

😳

Dave M.

How have you NEVER seen 🎶The NeverEnding Storyyyy.... ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ahhhh🎶😳🤯😱😒 That one is a MUST!!!! You’re gonna love it.

Dave M.

You can watch along with it...

Josh G

dragon is one of my faves--great. music

Tom Tomlinson

Don't want the neverending story if you have not. But if you haven't watch Princess mononoke, I will definitely recommend it for future list.

Ana (Lariaenl)

Little disappointed that you're not going through the MCU the way you handled Star Wars and LotR (in multi-movie 'chunks') but fully understand :) Also, originally thought that having two Ghibli films would unfairly split their vote, but even combined neither would win....Suppose we're off to train dragons!

Holly R

Miyuzaki! You absolutely must see Princess Mononoke!! My favorite movie of all time!

NobleSon32

Spirited Away for sure imo

Maxwell Long

It makes no difference, no audio and blurry video don't work very well.

GERALD TODD

Aw man was hoping Howl's Moving Castle would win. I'd like to see you watch Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Whisper of the Heart, and From Up on Poppy Hill. Stay golden.

Shea Harris

Carry on with your Matrix Journey, you'll forget the story otherwise. So my choice is The Matrix Reloaded

RebRox65

You will love all of these options! 😄 How to Train your Dragon has great sequels also!

Christian Fierro

One I would suggest if you have not already seen "The Dark Crystal. "

Karl Wacker

Spirited Away is easily one of the best animated films of all-time. You can't really go wrong with Studio Ghibli. I'd also recommend My Neighbor Totoro for another Studio Ghibli animated film if you haven't seen that one.

Andy Jordan

just about anything Miyazaki is a good call. my personal favorite is howl's moving castle but they're all fantastic. but this poll was a thinker. all great choices.

Jordan Tully

Dragon for sure! One of the best animated series ever. Never ending Story is also a fantastic option.

Jesse Arnold

Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away is one of the most extraordinary movies I've ever seen. The first time I watched it, my jaw was literally hanging open for much of the run time, and every time I have a chance to watch it again, it feels just as fresh and visionary. (BTW, as good as it is, Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke might be even better)

Jeremy Jacobs

HtTYD is fun but it's no Howl's Moving Castle.

Josh G

Has to be Neverending Story! Pure 80s cheesy goodness, and emotional as hell. No shade to the anime fans, but that stuff just ain't my bag

Mac McNeely

Never ending story! All the way for me, has such an eternal feel to it. All the feels!

Jon bell

Amazing movie choices, all of them!

RationallySassy

Neverending Story, that’s a classic
