Can't wait to jump into another Firefly episode with ya. This one had me laughing so hard (and maybe screaming a bit loud...headphone users I'm sorry). I can't believe we're officially in the double digits for this series! It's truly flying by.
I hope you enjoy this one and as always, please let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. Until the next one, ✨stay golden! ✨

This is the first time I think I saw regular cars driving on the road way in the distance on the desert planet when they realized Mal and Wash was grabbed.

2024-12-07 09:41:48 +0000 UTCYes, I noticed Natalie reacting too quickly with the "Ugh, gross men with the jealousy conversation", but it was a very intentional ploy from Mal trying to provoke Wash to keep him angry and determined, and Wash realized it later.

2021-11-12 19:47:07 +0000 UTCLOVED Warehouse 13! Special Unit 2 is another short-lived masterpiece.
Sean Novack
2021-08-23 05:28:14 +0000 UTCExactly! Mal was keeping Wash focused to keep him from passing out and maybe dying.

2021-07-19 01:53:56 +0000 UTCComing in SO much later, binge the reactions; long Firefly fan and excited to see you're getting so very involved/attached. This episode is maybe my favorite. The acting during the torture scene, especially - both the physical actions of both but the psychological game of Mal using their earlier petty argument to escalate Wash to where he was constantly refocused rather than just torn apart by the torture. And how sweet it was when Zoe got Wash back on board and he realized clearly what Mal had been doing and was so motivated to rescue him where he usually avoids getting too physically involved. Followed up with the great joking at the end about it by Mal and Zoe to mess with Wash was icing on the cake for me... There was just so much character building and bonding in this, I feel like, between the three of them.

2021-07-06 17:10:31 +0000 UTCMy theory on Shepperd is: He was the General at the battle of Serenity, the one in the first episode, and he's the battlemind that won the war. But so many deaths , he felt so bad that he entered the covent to atone for his sin. When he got out he was looking for some signs then there was a ship called Serenity. That's why he has such great military mind and why he's so respected in the Alliance.

2021-03-18 06:12:13 +0000 UTCAn excellent observation, Baron. Even more so because of whatever the government did to her messing up her emotional control, she could definitely present as being on the spectrum.

2020-12-02 21:01:11 +0000 UTCGood reaction. I guess now you can see why so many people love this series and continue to love it. You will notice there are some stories they were setting up that they just could not get to with the cancellation. Serenity will try to wrap things up and honestly it is a good ending but I am all for someone doing Firefly the next generation. Maybe if we beg Dave Filoni, haha.
Robert Kelly
2020-12-01 15:12:23 +0000 UTCJust a quick suggestion, once you finish the series, before you do Serenity, you might consider binging the series again in your own time so you can catch anything you may have missed the first time (it’s as good an excuse to rewatch the series as any! 😉)

2020-12-01 05:30:27 +0000 UTCMy big brother did that for me too and it is one of the best memories of my life.

2020-11-30 05:52:19 +0000 UTCIf you watch Firefly on Bluray or DVD, you don't have to deal with those annoying recaps every time.
Jack the Narrator
2020-11-27 20:44:29 +0000 UTCThe Expanse is awesome, but dense. It also doesn't follow a single "lead" character, but pops around to different people in different places enough that it took me about 3 episodes to feel comfortable with knowing "where" a scene was and what was happening when it changed scenes.
Donald Mellen
2020-11-26 17:48:08 +0000 UTCYes! I agree with Ronny Boss! The Expanse is the best sci-fi I've seen in a long time! It's a bit on the dark side, which is not a bad thing. On a lighter note, I've always liked Warehouse 13.
Phil Decker
2020-11-25 05:29:21 +0000 UTCI did I thought she was good I just wish she had been there longer.
Garrick Smalley
2020-11-23 06:09:58 +0000 UTCI had a Tivo at the time. It's the only reason I was able to catch all the episodes when they aired. (Well, I watched them a little later, so I could skip the commercials, but it did actually record them all.) That didn't help with the whole aired-out-of-order thing, but I didn't even know they were doing that until after the show was already canceled. I remember finding out that the show was canceled, and then finding out that they were going to play what should have been the pilot as one of the last episodes to air. And then watching what should have been the pilot and feeling SO cheated out of what should have been. F&#$ Fox!
Shadowcat
2020-11-23 00:08:48 +0000 UTCDid you ever watch Stargate: Atlantis? Jewel was in a couple of episodes seasons 2-3, and then much more regularly in seasons 4 & 5. It was a good show.
Shadowcat
2020-11-23 00:02:04 +0000 UTCI agree. Jewel is a very good actor and I hope we get to see more of her in the sci-fi world.
Garrick Smalley
2020-11-22 16:59:55 +0000 UTCI think their meeting was also for that piece of dialogue. I am an old white man introducing men in my demographic to the concept of women who can not be themselves around men could be an eye opener. Otherwise the counselor could have been male.
Garrick Smalley
2020-11-22 16:57:19 +0000 UTCyeah, this reminds me of when i was a kid showing scifi to my little sister when we were supposed to be sleeping. Thanks for the nostalgia nat.
Cripkie
2020-11-22 09:14:07 +0000 UTCyeah i think its a commentary on paranoid schizophrenia. they feel everything and have a creepy intuition of things that are about to happen.
Cripkie
2020-11-22 09:11:55 +0000 UTCRichard I remember how hard it was trying to find out when the next episode would air. It was almost impossible to watch after the first few eps.
Ronny Boss
2020-11-22 05:14:09 +0000 UTCI was wondering the same. Now I'm like have I seen an indie film she was in? I can see out Natty in big movie one day. That would be some shiz if she played Jayne in a firefly reboot series 😂
Ronny Boss
2020-11-22 05:08:17 +0000 UTCMy own personal thoughts are we keep forgetting that River is not just smart but obscenely smart, she is the smartest person on the ship by a mile. I think she understood how she made Kaylee feel on more then one level and in order to make Kaylee feel better she tried to use her own joke. But as most extremely smart people with Aspergers might tell you sometimes people take the thing we think is going to make things better as "The creepiest thing ever said by anyone". River just wanted to be friends with Kaylee but I bet she understood perfectly how Kaylee's view of her had changed, and she had no idea how to fix that, so she made a joke. Just my opinion really a deep moment.
Baron
2020-11-21 22:58:18 +0000 UTCExactly. At this point, we don't even know if River was fully aware of what she did.
John
2020-11-21 22:46:49 +0000 UTCAmazon has been doing that with other series as well. I've noticed it on Doctor Who where the recap and explanatory intro was added after the fact.
John
2020-11-21 22:44:41 +0000 UTCJewel Staite did such a wonderful job there. She really wanted to help, but violence just isn't in her character even if she wanted it to be. She played the fear perfectly.
John
2020-11-21 22:43:41 +0000 UTCYou also see Mal shake his head "no" when Wash looks back at him as he's being released. Mal and Zoey know he can survive longer than Wash could have. That whole time Mal was solely focused on helping Wash survive.
John
2020-11-21 22:42:06 +0000 UTCYep. But then again, she's quite aware of what she's doing, because she says she can't look. That's not just additional bravado, I think, it's because she _is_ that innocent who doesn't really want to kill them...
Patrick Armbruster
2020-11-21 08:24:18 +0000 UTCMine was when Niska asked Mal, "Are you familiar with the works of Shan Yu?" And Mal replies, "Are you starting a book club? What, are you trying to torture me?" That one always makes me LOL (Also: "You died, Mr. Reynolds" ... "Seemed like the thing to do.")
Dan
2020-11-21 08:23:36 +0000 UTCIt's great that Kaylee said it while they were playing, too, because you get the sense that River could have been playing, also. Hers is a darker playback, but it's like maybe River still thinks it's a game. Who knows, in that head of hers...
Dan
2020-11-21 08:21:25 +0000 UTCI thought I remembered some small previous hints that Wash was getting jealous of Mal.
Robert Reichle
2020-11-21 07:15:52 +0000 UTCI'm with Kaylee on this one. So many people jump quick on how River is a badass. That she shoots the guys with her eyes closed and her attitude afterwards is downright scary. "No power in the verse can stop me." says the unpredictable, mind-altered girl who kills people now. I'm not even convinced River completely understands what she's done.
Colin Ballendine
2020-11-21 07:03:51 +0000 UTCThere's one episode coming up with one quick comical scene with Jayne that will explain why he does what he does. The movie completes his character. The jealousy had been building up. Remember Wash joking about 'he likes it when you call him sir' and other little things.
Reichard Könige
2020-11-21 06:10:50 +0000 UTCDidnt help that it was shown out of order and often pre-empted by other shows. It was hard know what and when something was happening.

2020-11-21 06:02:49 +0000 UTCSo when the show was on the air it got terrible ratings - the reason for all the general recaps plus the secondary specific stuff is because, optimistically, the showrunners really hoped there would be new viewers every time :)

2020-11-21 03:25:40 +0000 UTCHearing you talking about ADR and sound inconsistencies (and all kinds of other technical things related to filmmaking), it makes me wonder what background you might have had in filmmaking, cuz U know stuff. I haven't watched your 100K Q&A yet. Perhaps the answer is there?
Andrew T
2020-11-21 03:25:00 +0000 UTCI love how emotional you got when Kaylee was holding a gun. I kept trying to tell you it would be ok she would not have to hurt anybody but you could not hear me. Of all the characters I think Kaylee is my favorite. Hoping you and your family are well.
Garrick Smalley
2020-11-21 03:11:46 +0000 UTCthe counselor loaned them the machine used to reattach Mal's ear. That was the reason for having her meet with Inara in the first place, it wasn't just a salacious side bar.
eric clark
2020-11-21 03:05:41 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite lines as well.
Garrick Smalley
2020-11-21 03:03:04 +0000 UTCI still get chills from River repeating the line Kaylee says at the start in such a light-hearted manner right after River just killed 3 people. I love this show so much. This is the reason I joined the patreon.
David
2020-11-21 02:39:03 +0000 UTCI may or may not have refused to watch the final episode before because I was trying to keep my mind from acknowledging the series was over. When I did that may or may not have been after having watched the series multiple times through and 15 years after the show's cancelation
Josh
2020-11-21 02:31:29 +0000 UTCThe writers did such a great job with the entire series, but one of the unique things they did was poke fun at and go against the tropes that are so common. Be it "The captain has to do this for himself" or Mal at the end of his sword fight giving a speech about "mercy is the mark of a great man" It's that *stab* "Maybe, I just a good man" *Stab* "Well I'm just alright" that injects a little comedy and turns audience expectations on their heads. I don't know where all the writers ended up, but I suspect if they all got together to do another show I'd watch it religiously.
Josh
2020-11-21 02:27:47 +0000 UTCTell me, are you familiar with the works of Shan Yu?
Armchair Wizard
2020-11-21 02:25:02 +0000 UTCProbably my favourite episode. I remember you saying Mal was a badass in one of the earlier episodes - and I was thinking "You haven't even met the real him yet..."
crawlie
2020-11-21 02:20:06 +0000 UTCI like being able to come along and watch someone discover the show for the first time, but the part of me who's watched the series dozens of times silently screams "No!!! You're missing so many good lines!!!"
Josh
2020-11-21 02:19:31 +0000 UTCAlso "Predator 2", "Independence Day", and the TV series "Chuck"

2020-11-21 00:58:51 +0000 UTCI always get sad at the end now. I have a feeling that I will end up binge watching all these again with you after Serenity. 1 Episode a week is killing me! But, I love it. ;-)
Todd Spencer
2020-11-21 00:39:29 +0000 UTCWatching your new episode now Natalie, good stuff. I am sure you are aware, your voice is has a bit of an echo on this recording, it sounds different than it usually does. So you can keep an eye on things, do a test recording prior to your reaction videos. It's not a huge difference, but I noticed it as soon as I started the video.
JediLounger
2020-11-21 00:32:57 +0000 UTCglad you enjoyed this as much as I did when I first watched it. If you wanna watch a really good movie that Adam Baldwin did b4 he was Jayne check out Full Metal Jacket. That's a really good film 😄 Stay Golden Nat, and have a flippin sweet weekend
Ronny Boss
2020-11-21 00:31:56 +0000 UTCAnother great episode Nat. I'm sure you damaged a few ears , not just Mal's with your laughter :) I think the unpredictability of this show is one of it's strengths. You think you know where it's headed, and then the surprise gets you - like Mal shouting for help at the end! Fantastic. And then they give you a little tidbit to get you thinking to take into the next show with what's up with River. Great fun Nat. Thank you.
Darryl Low
2020-11-20 23:29:30 +0000 UTCThe equipment that the Counselor helped them with was the dermal machine that helped the doc reattach Mal's ear. That's what they were boxing up in the cargo bay at the end of the episode.
Matt
2020-11-20 23:18:03 +0000 UTCI've always loved that line!
Matt
2020-11-20 23:16:35 +0000 UTCAww Nat. You talked right over one of my favorite lines in the episode. I don't think you even heard it. Zoey said "Preacher, doesn't the bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing" to which Shepherd Book replied "Quite specific. It is, however, rather fuzzy on the subject of kneecaps." I always get a good chuckle from that line.
Thundarr100
2020-11-20 22:57:33 +0000 UTCMal was trying to keep Wash angry to give him something to focus on besides the pain and get him through the torture. Yes, Zoey chose Wash because he's her husband, but more practically because Wash isn't strong enough to survive - Mal is, and she knows it. Niska isn't interested in information. He's interested in making an example of Mal for crossing him. Did you notice River shot the 3 guys with her eyes closed?
John
2020-11-20 22:53:58 +0000 UTCThis is my favorite episode. So glad to finally be here. I love the Shepard's kneecap line. And River shooting those guys without looking is so bad ass.
Kevin Morris
2020-11-20 22:31:54 +0000 UTC"No power in the 'verse can stop me..." - It's sooo perfectly done. Whenever I rewatch the episode, Kaylee saying it first in a funny way always prepares me for River saying it after she shoots the enemies without looking. Such a powerful moment. So wonderfully done. :)
Patrick Armbruster

2020-11-20 21:28:32 +0000 UTCCan't wait to get off wurk and watch it. I hope you can react to The Expanse sometime. If you enjoy firefly I really think you will love Epanse, probably the best sci-fi in the last few decades
Ronny Boss
2020-11-20 21:14:52 +0000 UTCNothing quite like bonding over a bit of "electroshock therapy ". Alan Tudyk at his finest. Can't wait to dig in. Pretty sure you'll have a lot of fun with "Trash" as well.
