HELP ME PICK A SCARY MOVIE!!
Added 2021-03-25 16:00:05 +0000 UTCBecause I hate sleep and love nightmares apparently....help me pick a scary movie for next week 🙃
Comments
Great Reaction, Natalie. You should try out the TV show, Hannibal, with Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal. Not only is he better, the entire series is horror raised to High Art. It covers in three seasons the time period before the start of Silence of the Lamb. Amazing! Go ahead, try ONE episode. 😇
Mark Alexander
2021-04-07 21:15:06 +0000 UTCI don't know about scary, but how about clash of the titans it has medusa there is a 1981 version which I like better.
2021-04-03 03:07:32 +0000 UTCIt puts the lotion on the skin!
2021-04-02 02:50:57 +0000 UTCA Quiet Place really is so much more than a horror or "scary" movie despite moments that fit the genre being in the movie. Since it clearly won't beat out Silence of the Lambs (another great film) I'll just say it'd be great to see you react to it as well down the line.

2021-03-29 01:57:45 +0000 UTCSilence of the Lambs is a must watch because of its quality. Acting, cinematography, score. It is a masterfully done suspense movie that you will think about from time to time for the rest of your life. Get out is revolutionary in the horror genre, and also has an African American director (Jordan Peele) who brings a great new perspective and story telling talent to horror. Also Daniel Kaluuya in the lead does an amazing job.

2021-03-28 16:30:44 +0000 UTCImpossible question. They are ALL must-watch movies
Nick Parker
2021-03-28 04:45:20 +0000 UTCYes. High quality horror. So good.
Jai Nelson
2021-03-27 23:51:19 +0000 UTCWhile it is a thriller, you will react to it like a horror movie. Its soooo good though.
Wyn Nyx
2021-03-27 21:35:11 +0000 UTCIt follows is the best horror movie in recent times.
Richard Maurer
2021-03-27 20:07:37 +0000 UTCNat, I really enjoyed the horror/comedy 12 Hour Shift! I'd love to see your reaction to that! Also 'It Follows'.
2021-03-27 17:43:49 +0000 UTCThe only answer here for a “new” movie is Sinister. Extremely underrated horror film.
Dcv50
2021-03-27 00:00:30 +0000 UTCOr some scary 80's horror, like Hellraiser 1 & 2. They didn't get shown at film-festivals, but they did the job on Friday nights. :)
Eric Janssen
2021-03-26 22:37:31 +0000 UTCYou should do some cringy 80's horror movie's like Basket Case and Critters haha
Frank Rosales
2021-03-26 22:03:04 +0000 UTCIs watching horror supposed to be about staying in your comfort zone? That said, I voted for "The Silence of the Lambs" and don't consider it horror, but it should good for some scaredy-cat reactions from Nat.
Thomas Yanez
2021-03-26 17:36:26 +0000 UTCHeh, you really don't like reactors reacting to popular movies.
Thomas Yanez
2021-03-26 17:27:59 +0000 UTCNone of them are particularly scary but horror is subjective. What doesn’t scare one could terrify another.
Dooly
2021-03-26 11:10:31 +0000 UTCIf you want real horror, watch Lilya 4-ever or Come and See. Both are far scarier than anything on the list.
Dooly
2021-03-26 11:05:31 +0000 UTCThere is nothing more terrifying than a psychopath. Anthony hopkins in Silence of the lambs was horrifyingly perfect.
Cripkie
2021-03-26 10:21:11 +0000 UTCMeh.
Amos T Fairchild
2021-03-26 08:31:33 +0000 UTCSilence of the Lambs was a landmark movie. You should certainly see it. Academy award material. A Quiet Place will probably get fewer votes, which makes sense since fewer people have seen it. But it is fantastic - contemporaneous and well written.
Craig McIvor
2021-03-26 05:34:38 +0000 UTCSome good movies to choose from, but I’m glad ‘Silence of the Lambs’ is winning. It’ll definitely be interesting to see Nat react to the asylum part, and Buffalo Bill, but mainly how amazing Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster are.
Danny Miller
2021-03-26 05:09:25 +0000 UTCIf you haven’t seen Silence of the Lambs then that’s the clear must-see. Not really horror, but more like thriller-action-drama but still. Ya gotta see it.
Steve Karmesin
2021-03-26 04:00:58 +0000 UTCYall consider The Silence of the Lambs a "scary" movie? I don't. Only 2 of these movies should be considered as scary.
BoogieWoogie30
2021-03-26 03:28:35 +0000 UTCGood choices there but Nat should probably watch Halloween 1 and 2 before H20 to get the most understanding and enjoyment out of it. The Faculty was a very entertaining horror flick. The Relic and Deep Rising are two fun monster horror movies from the 90s that were quite entertaining as well.
Justin S.
2021-03-26 03:21:37 +0000 UTCOff-topic but I would love to watch Natalie react to 90s horror flicks like the Scream franchise (my absolute fav), I Know What You Did Last Summer, Halloween H20, The Faculty & Disturbing Behavior.

2021-03-26 03:10:47 +0000 UTCA quiet place is soooooo good!
2021-03-26 01:06:04 +0000 UTCSilence of the Lambs, let's go!

2021-03-26 00:13:59 +0000 UTCJust watched Silence of the Lambs a couple months ago and it's a great movie with a great villain and protagonist. I think you'll really enjoy it.

2021-03-25 23:53:21 +0000 UTCAll good picks, so I'll vote my heart and go with Hereditary.
Andrew Uhl
2021-03-25 23:41:12 +0000 UTCBe forewarned that while Silence of the Lambs can be scary, it's not really a horror movie in the conventional sense. It's a psychological thriller. No cheap jump scares here, but plenty of disturbing imagery.
SuicuneSol
2021-03-25 23:26:07 +0000 UTCDamnn I love Hereditary. Sad to see it voted at the bottom. Hope you get to it. While on the topic, I would recommend watching Midsommer as well. Not exactly a horror but an amazing, terrifying, and trippy movie
kikoyito
2021-03-25 23:21:05 +0000 UTCIt's not as good as Silence of the Lambs but Red Dragon is still a very good movie. I've seen Hannibal twice now and I dont think I ever need to see it again.
My_Cousin_Mose
2021-03-25 22:51:02 +0000 UTCHereditary isn't one I ever recommend to reactors. It's not just intense; it's oppressively intense. When it finally ended, I was mostly just relieved that I could relax again.
Kevin Mowery
2021-03-25 22:23:51 +0000 UTCAfter Silence of the Lambs I highly recommend Red Dragon which is the prequal. You also have Manhunter a 1986 movie which was based on the book Red Dragon amazing movie and very underrated. The movie Red Dragon is also based on the book its pretty much the modern version of Manhunter but sharing the same actors as Silence of the Lambs with Anthony Hopkins returning as Hannibal Lecter. Both Red Dragon and Manhunter are amazing both have their own styles even through i prefer Manhunter Red Dragon is still amazing.
Jedi Mandalore (Dylan)
2021-03-25 22:21:20 +0000 UTCI hope we will eventually get all 4 of these. I just am not sure how you’ll react to Hereditary. It’s intense.
Robert Gruhn
2021-03-25 22:17:15 +0000 UTCEveryone is all over the place with picks 1. 30 Days of Nights - Vampires 2.Halloween - who doesn't like Michael Myers 3. The Thing - Kirk Russel 4. Scream 5. Fallen
Jeff Smith
2021-03-25 22:15:57 +0000 UTCSilence of the lambs for sure.... watch them all, Hannibal, Red Dragon, Hannibal rising then the Hannibal series after GOT, lots of content and great movies and the performance from Antony Hopkins in the movies is iconic. in the series Dr. Lector is played by Mads Mikkelsen..... that performance <3 trust.
Sean Ash
2021-03-25 22:10:56 +0000 UTCIt’s trendy after the fact and through no fault of its own. It’s not the “best movie ever” and was a victim of the ubiquitous hype machine, but it absolutely is something new, well crafted in the genre, and an excellent film to boot.
Byron
2021-03-25 22:03:05 +0000 UTCThose are all solid choices. I think Hereditary is scarier, but Get Out and Silence of the Lambs are both excellent films. A Quiet Place is good, but not on the same level as the other 3. IMO If you really want to lose sleep watch Martyrs. It's subtitled though if that makes a difference.
Matt Gwinn
2021-03-25 21:56:37 +0000 UTCChristine is still an exceptional horror film all these decades later. John Carpenter at his finest.
Ortizmo2000
2021-03-25 21:41:41 +0000 UTCLooks like the winner is obvious here. Nat, I'm going to suggest now that you not bother with the substandard sequel "Hannibal" and go straight to the excellent prequel "Red Dragon".
Ortizmo2000
2021-03-25 21:38:31 +0000 UTCI saw “A Quiet Place” in a full theatre, and you could hear people breathing it was so quiet. She’d ruin the movie experience for herself because she’d feel she needed to comment. I know I’d be at home shushing her the whole time, lol.
Cole Jennett
2021-03-25 21:36:31 +0000 UTC"Manhunter", while a great flick, is more of an investigation thriller than pure horror as Silence and Red Dragon are. More "Miami Vice" than horror - and for good reason. Directed by the great Michael Mann.
Ortizmo2000
2021-03-25 21:35:31 +0000 UTCAs far as scary goes, might I suggest; "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" ("horror in its purest, most distilled form, freed from the shackles of jump scares or exposition.") Mother! (A Darren Aronofsky psych horror) "The Witch" (1630s puritan family encounters something in the woods surrounding their farm) "Manhunter" (The first "Hannibal Lecter" film) "1408" (an author who investigates allegedly haunted houses and rents the titular room 1408)
Crwn
2021-03-25 21:28:20 +0000 UTCThese are all great! I'd be excited for any of these, so I hope you eventually get to watch them all. Even with the scary/horror aspect, I think you'd appreciate them for being very artistic films. Hope you don't have any Natmares after each viewing though.
Jorge Lopez
2021-03-25 21:25:40 +0000 UTCLots of great scary movies, but Silence of the Lambs is seminal, and it remains relevant even today with spin-offs and reboots still inspired by it.
Ellis Hugh
2021-03-25 21:19:55 +0000 UTCSilence of the Lambs is a classic with two great performances and Get Out is really good as well. They're more psychological thriller than horror. Quiet Place is probably the best PG-13 horror flick ever, next to Insidious. Hereditary is good but you should know it's on the weird and depressing side. Here are my scary movie suggestions, which I'll save for October: Christine Fright Night (1985) The Fly (1986) Child's Play (1988) Slither (2006)- More humorous than scary but it is a crazy film with Nathan Fillion from Firefly.
Justin S.
2021-03-25 21:10:55 +0000 UTCNot very good choices there
Dooly
2021-03-25 20:59:45 +0000 UTCAll of these would be fun reactions. But Silence and Hereditary are a notch above imo. This might be one of the few times my vote wins one.
It Hurt A Lot
2021-03-25 20:40:57 +0000 UTCSeems that everyone voting is very pro skin moisturizers
The Guy on the Couch
2021-03-25 20:38:12 +0000 UTCHereditary is absolutely scary. TSOTL is a get-the-killer movie.
Jay Robert
2021-03-25 20:26:44 +0000 UTCI think Hereditary would be well past Nat’s comfort zone. All three of the others are really good picks.
Max du Coudray
2021-03-25 20:13:00 +0000 UTCIf you end up watching Silence of the Lambs, make sure you have some fava beans and a nice Chianti.
Paul C
2021-03-25 19:51:49 +0000 UTCI didn't get that from Hereditary at all. It felt like a throwback to 70s horror like the Exorcist instead of today's jump scare horror. Hereditary has a sense of simmering dread hanging over it and left me feeling unsettled for days. And it's so well crafted. Repeat viewings are rewarding to pick up on all the foreshadowing.
Ken
2021-03-25 19:48:22 +0000 UTCA Silence of the Lambs reaction is gonna be great fun! Can't wait.
Future Boy
2021-03-25 19:36:00 +0000 UTCSome great choices here but Silence of the Lambs I think is the most culturally significant, legendary performance by Anthony Hopkins.
Cifer
2021-03-25 18:59:16 +0000 UTCAfter all the raving about what a great new horror movie Hereditary was, I found myself more disappointed in it than I have been in a long time. It is a gross out movie. Shock and nastiness. That's not needed for a good horror movie. All the other choices here are excellent tho.
Robert Reichle
2021-03-25 18:58:36 +0000 UTCI second "Warm Bodies."
Andrew T
2021-03-25 18:54:08 +0000 UTCI am so torn. I just saw Hereditary and it scared the crap out of me - I honestly think Nat would have her eyes closed through a good portion of the film. It's very graphic. Get Out is amazing and Quiet Place is a cool suspense/ thriller thriving with hopeful tones. I'll have to go with the majority with "Silence of the Lambs." I think it could still hold up today and wouldn't put Nat into a straight jacket (like Hereditary might)! ;D :D
This_Jedi_crafts
2021-03-25 18:52:17 +0000 UTCIf you wanna be scared I suggest you the "old school" Asian horror movies (the ring, the eye, the call, the grudge, two sisters...) 😉👍
David Blake
2021-03-25 18:43:08 +0000 UTCYes, I would agree quiet room for that one. I saw it with subtitles, but my friend didnt. I Think it was meant to be watched without them, is that correct?
2021-03-25 18:36:55 +0000 UTCI canr believe Im saying it, but I have to vote for a Quiet Place. I havent seen Heredity, but SotL and Get Out feel more like suspense thrillers to me. If you want to mash-up genres, you need to watch Event Horizon. Thats a Sci-fi horror.
2021-03-25 18:31:59 +0000 UTCSilence isn’t a horror movie it’s a dramatic thriller, you need to watch Hereditary! That film keeps the tension up from beginning to end.
Kevin Becton
2021-03-25 18:15:53 +0000 UTCI’ve seen these all. All of them are great and all extremely different types of horror. I believe SotL and Get Out are must sees. Hereditary is crazy. Seriously it’s crazy and gets even more insane as the movie progresses. It would be fun to watch Nat react to it. A Quiet Place is alright. It really has that eerie and insidious feel throughout. That feeling is what I remember more than the actual details of the film, tbh.

2021-03-25 17:19:35 +0000 UTCI have only seen Silence of the Lambs but I avoid horror. Best Zombie movie is Warm Bodies.
2021-03-25 17:17:52 +0000 UTCMovies don't scare me...usually. I enjoyed each one of these movies but "Get Out" really gave me nightmares.
2021-03-25 17:14:18 +0000 UTCDefinitely SOTL. One of my faves of any genre.

Ben Wheeler
2021-03-25 17:05:14 +0000 UTCFull disclosure, I cheated and voted for both Get Out and A Quiet Place, as I've not seen either but suspect they might be less gross than Silence Of The Lambs, which I've avoided due to a phobia of cannibalism and body horror in general. (I've also never watched iZombie or Dexter.) But I've heard "good" things about Silence, so if it ends up picked, maybe I'll soldier through it in this one instance.
Troy B.
2021-03-25 17:03:51 +0000 UTCEasiest choice ever. Silence of the Lambs is not only a great, great film, it has Anthony Hopkins' defining performance with lines and scenes that have become a part of our cultural vernacular.
Scott Dorr
2021-03-25 17:01:25 +0000 UTCI have been wanting to watch Get Out so voting for that.

2021-03-25 16:59:56 +0000 UTCI came for a GOT episode and got a poll instead :( What happened to the three GOT episodes a week plan?
Don Struble
2021-03-25 16:57:22 +0000 UTCNat are all of these polls 100% our suggestions? If so I think it's time for a poll that's 100% movies that you've always wanted to watch and haven't gotten around to it.
Ron K
2021-03-25 16:56:55 +0000 UTCAll of those are actually great choices! Honestly, you should find some time (Maybe your 2021 Halloween Special?) and watch all of them. Different kinds of horror, all of them with something that elevates them from the average.
Caballeee
2021-03-25 16:56:01 +0000 UTCNooooooooooo! I can't believe how low is Hereditary!!! She would freak out sooooo much! Damn I wish she watches it with us someday..

2021-03-25 16:53:09 +0000 UTCI haven't seen Hereditary, and that criticism sounds like a positive to me, considering it's horror!
HybridThizzle
2021-03-25 16:51:40 +0000 UTCI knew get out wouldn’t get a lot of votes. It’s scary but it depends on the viewers’ own experiences in my opinion.
Brandon Hinton
2021-03-25 16:50:20 +0000 UTCSilence of the Lambs is the only one I've watched but it should be good for screams, nightmares, and general heebie jeebies.
2021-03-25 16:35:55 +0000 UTCThese are all excellent films. I highly caution against hereditary solely because of an *intensely* and deeply disturbing tragic accident early in the film. I cannot rewatch this film EVER because it took me so long to get over it. It is a truly exceptional film in terms of its themes and the acting, but given your level of empathy, it seriously just isn’t worth it. I wish I had never seen it. A Quiet Place is a much lighter scary science fiction film. It’s not as deep as the other films and it has some plot holes, but it is very well acted and the plot is decent enough and it has strong themes as well. Silence of the Lambs is a classic... the acting is exceptional. Its themes are more internal surrounding the protagonist. Get Out is a groundbreaking film in terms of how it approaches themes of race and identity through the lens of the thriller genre. It deftly subverts expectations and provides an intensely smart and funny take on cliches surrounding these themes. It’s tense and scary but a joy to watch. I disagree strongly with anyone who would claim that any of these are “superior”. They are apples and oranges, and each excel in their respective niche. A Quiet Place is objectively the least serious film, but in comparison to similar films, it brings a lot of heart and strong performances to the table. With the exception of Hereditary (unless you want to be traumatized), any of these would be highly entertaining to watch and all are worth your time.
Byron
2021-03-25 16:34:04 +0000 UTCIs silence of the lambs a scary movie though? 🤔 I don’t think so it’s more of a suspense/thriller
JerME
2021-03-25 16:32:56 +0000 UTCThe only one of those I've seen is Silence of the Lambs. And I would probably classify it as more of a Crime Thriller rather than Horror. But, it still tends to cross over into that genre in many people's minds. Still worth seeing.
Jomero
2021-03-25 16:29:47 +0000 UTCI am honestly the worst person to give an opinion on these scary movie polls. I like suspense films but horror always seems too cheesy or too tropey to me. By far my least genre of films. So I am just gonna vote all of them and let the best one win.
NobleSon32
2021-03-25 16:27:48 +0000 UTCI don't know WHY fans think every single reactor on YouTube "has" to do Silence, but at this point, it's like getting your driver's license: Sooner or later, it has to happen, so let's just get the darn driving-test out of the way...

2021-03-25 16:25:45 +0000 UTCThe correct answer is It Follows

2021-03-25 16:22:25 +0000 UTCI had to go with Silence of the Lambs because it is absolutely brilliant but every single one of those movies is amazing, in its own right.
MattN
2021-03-25 16:21:16 +0000 UTCWow, 1408 is terrifying, forgot about that one.
2021-03-25 16:21:14 +0000 UTCOoooh, this is a TOUGH poll. All of these are incredible movies.
Tucci
2021-03-25 16:21:11 +0000 UTCA Quiet Place is definitely way better as a cinema experience but still really good. Make sure you have no distractions/ other ambient noise if you watch that one.
2021-03-25 16:20:23 +0000 UTCWow, these are all fantastic choices! Silence of the Lambs, I would probably say, is the most important of these, given that it swept the Big Five at the Oscars and is one of the few genre films to get the Academy's notice, and its massive cultural influence, so it gets my vote on that account, but really, there's not a weak one in the bunch here. I'd start with Silence of the Lambs, and then just go through the others one-by-one as you feel comfortable taking them on. Cheers!
Andy Jordan
2021-03-25 16:20:07 +0000 UTCBoth Silence of the Lambs and Get Out would be amazing, but either way get the feeling it would be enjoyable to watch you get wigged out by any of these flicks.
David Trumble
2021-03-25 16:18:01 +0000 UTCGET OUT!
Stoned Misthios
2021-03-25 16:16:58 +0000 UTCSilence of the Lambs is the best choice, the characters are above (Anthony Hopkins is a true legend) and there is an aura in the film that gives it something. Hereditary and Get Out are really good too in the same way, but compared to Silence of the Lambs, it has a lower priority haha A Quiet Place is the weakest of the list, this film left me indifferent. Stay Golden! 💛

2021-03-25 16:15:13 +0000 UTCAll of these are great!
Brian - DocHikes - Hall
2021-03-25 16:10:50 +0000 UTCSilence of the Lambs is great but feels so dated now when compared to Mads Mikkelson's turn as Hannibal in the show.
Connor Alexander
2021-03-25 16:10:50 +0000 UTCI'm going with Silence because Jodi Foster and Anthony Hopkins. Also because Buffalo Bill was on the series Monk. (The actor)
Christopher Boscarino
2021-03-25 16:10:47 +0000 UTCAll the movies are good, but there is only one with Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter so I'm going with Silence of the Lambs
T.K.
2021-03-25 16:10:35 +0000 UTCGet Out is less scary and just more screwed up and unnerving. Hereditary is definitely the scariest one on there, but it's hard to beat Anthony Hopkins. I still chose Get Out because it is so messed up. I love the movie but it is hard to watch.
Chad Rhoads
2021-03-25 16:09:47 +0000 UTCI didn't know it was considered a "scary" movie.
