FIRST TIME WATCHING: GOT S8E3!!

Comments

Thank you for the awesome reaction, all your thoughts and comments were great. I have honestly never been able to finish Game Of Thrones, always hated endings... Any ways great reaction thanks for sharing, only three more episodes left...

Baron

"For the episode is dark, and full of plot armor." Okay, one positive thing I can say is that the HBO Max version of this seems considerably brighter than the live version a lot of us tried to watch a few years back. And yeah, I know someone said "compression algorithms make shows darker," etc., but the people at HBO aren't new to this, they've been making streaming content for a while now, they should know the limitations and technical ramifications of making a dark AF episode, and had to have an idea of how many people would be streaming. Anyway, it was nice to see most of what was going on this time (for the most part; I haven't actually gotten the last half to stream properly. *kicks HBO Max*)

Troy B.

Theon's end in the Long Night was the best part of that episode for me, she said it and I completely agree, he had one of the best (and worst) story arcs in the show. And now that we can say things like "this show is all about the Starks" like it's the Brady Bunch in a very fucked up yet more reality based fictional universe lol. And Theon is included as a Stark and really also more of a central character than sometimes seemed.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

no he didn't spot arya, it's just a statement to calm the hate, if that was true there would be a shot to show us that :) (it's just a awful directing ahah) i

Hugo deroo

you need to use your own copy of the material alongside the reaction

Krystal

Putting in a vote for Farscape or Babylon 5 as the next tv shows to watch.

Garrick Smalley

Dude, I don't disagree entirely with your post (as you can see below), but you have got to edit it some. Why would you put such significant spoilers up like this so close to the finish line? To answer your post, we shouldn't have to fill in the blanks for what might have happened to make the episodes we got make sense. If they were going to do that with Bran then they should have showed that - it's kind of a huge thing to leave out entirely. And giving us a full season wouldn't have been to create 'filler'... they would have given us a chance to have Jon and Dany's relationship not seem so forced and rushed, heightening the true sense of tragedy later on. It would have allowed us to see the culmination of Bran's redemption and Yara's rescue as something other than a footnote. There are tons of plotlines that were left dangling that easily could have been resolved (or addressed at all) rather than ignored or handwaved, like what we see with Bron's 'resolution' that was a flat out insult to the character. Sure, all the eons of time that Martin left everybody hanging left them to fill in the blanks with their own theories, which in turn led to expectations that were ultimately disappointed, but if they hadn't shorted us 7 episodes worth of show, the vast majority of the issues most had with the final two seasons could have been easily fixed.

Ellis Hugh

Something a lot of people don't realize - when Jon stands up before the Night King's Dragon and yells, he's already spotted Arya and is distracting the dragon so that she can make it past. What he actually yells is "Goooo!" Some of the bigger issues that I had with this episode: 1) Basically the big bad of the entire series, from day 1, is over and done with in the first battle that we see him in, and with three episodes left to go at that. How much better would it have been if they had lost at Winterfell and regrouped at King's Landing for the final episode showdown... that would have created the opportunity for all kinds of cool things, including Arya wearing Jamie's face after he dies and using it to kill Cersei. 2) The Lord of Light and his followers, with all their prophecy of the great war, the only war that matters, the big showdown between the light and the darkness... and just one priestess shows up to participate. Just one bothers to show up despite the Lord of Light having shown the ability to communicate directly with his followers and showing them the future. 3) Bran does nothing. At all. He just sits there staring blankly... imagine if instead they cut to him warging in and out of various people throughout the series, nudging history this way and that to ensure that Arya is in that place at that time with that training to kill the Night King. Like warging into Littlefinger to hand off that incredibly valuable dagger to the assassin, or Jaquen Hagar during Arya's training or any number of others... shaping the past to create the present. At least then we would have had some kind of payoff regarding the much-hyped 'Three-Eyed Rave'...

Ellis Hugh

I don't get the hate for this season and season 7. Sure things had to move fast. All the storylines had converged. Did we really need filler episodes due to travel lengths? And most of your questions about how or why something happened the way it did can be answered with "this was what the 3-eyed Raven planned to happen" I think he had went back and forth in time and exhausted all options until he came up with a series of events that turned out like he wanted then he went back to ensure it all happened as it should. Maybe warging into several key characters throughout time to get certain things done. For all we know he could have been Jaqen Hagar. Or Bran the Builder. Or even warged into the boar that killed Robert. Or the Stag that killed the mother Dire-Wolf. Oh the possibilities that warging through time can offer. When he told Bran the past is written in stone you can't change it , he lied. (Old Nan told us as much) He had already laid the groundwork. What he was really saying is I've "fixed" the past, don't mess with it. A lot of people don't subscribe to this theory but in the end when he is asked if he will take the throne he replies " why do you think I came all this way?" It was always his intention to forge a new way of ruling after saving the living. Anyhoo I think a lot of people were mad because of Arya getting the kill on the big bad. They all had predicted Jon to do it. And people hate being wrong. Also a lot of Dany's fans were mad because she turned out to be a tyrant. Again prejudicing themselves against any other outcome other than Queen Dany the great.

jim shields

The score for the final confrontation is still my favorite piece of music Game of Thrones has ever written. I had chills when I first watching it

Alex Mercer

Having come back and rewatched this episode now, all I can say is that there is far too much in here that makes zero sense and is truly awful writing. Instead of writing a book here in the comments about everything that went wrong, I'll just recommend everyone goes over to YouTube and watches some of the hundred or so videos people have made that absolutely tear this episode and Season 8 as a whole apart. A few of my Recommendations (some of these have spoilers for Episodes 4-6, be warned): • Game of Thrones - How to Ruin a Great Show (Channel: The Cosmonaut Variety Hour) • GoT's Abandoned Plot Lines (Channel: Supercuts Delight) • A Critique of Game of Thrones Season 8 (Part 1) (Channel: moneymedia) • A Critique of Game of Thrones Season 8 (Part 2) (Channel: moneymedia) • Game of Thrones Season 8 is Awful (Channel: Penguinz0) • Game of Thrones - The Season That Ruined Everything (Channel: Elvis the Alien) • The Ruined Legacy of Game of Thrones (Channel: captainmidnight) • Game of Thrones Season 8 Pitch Meeting (Channel: Screen Rant) • GoT Season 8 But It's Devoid of Logic (Channel: Supercuts Delight) • Every error in Game of Thrones Season 8 (Channel: Culture Vulture Media) • Game of Thrones: S08E03: An Unbridled Rage (Channel: MauLer) • Game of Thrones' Disastrous Finale Breakdown - With Mauler, Jeremy, Anna, DasBoShitt and more (Channel: MooLer) • Game of Thrones Collapse Season 8 Supercut (Channel: Nerdrotic) • The Long Night | Game of Thrones Pisstake (Season 8 Episode 3) (Channel: Glidus) • EFAP #58 - The Game of Thrones Debate with Nerdrotic and YezenIRL (Channel: MooLer)

WackySwacky

The sheer scale of this episode is amazing to me still. This is a tv show, I am old enough to remember that tv shows could never show large battles and this one finally pulled it off. Now onto the final few

Obie Brown

Is there anyway to watch this with the episode not being blurry?

O A

Same goes for Disney+, not as good as my blu ray.

Paul G

You do realise the last season took them 2 years right?

Paul Gibbons

This was the episode game of thrones died in my heart. The sting is still harsh.

William JV

It was nice watching you finish game of thrones!!!!!!!!! You're right about the end becoming so rushed just wait until you watch these next episodes, even the sad moment are hollow and its just fan service so the directors can finish with the project

devin flynn

Nah, they just wanted to prove that they could film at night with modern technology, which until quite recently wasn't possible in this way. They didn't take H264 into account, though.

Axel Dietze

It really wouldn't look so bad if it weren't for the video compression that HBO uses. Of course it can look even worse than that depending on the TV or monitor you're watching it on. But the CGI is all there even if you can't see it, I promise.

12 Feet Up

Reason it's so dark is the lighter you make it the more money has to be spent on CGI.

Paul Gibbons

Oh the cast and crew did a great job. Its the script and editing that's fucking abysmal. You can really tell the showrunners just didn't care anymore.

Laura Thornley

This really is the Battle of the Dumbasses. The tactics are... awful. And the characters constantly make really baffling choices. And on top of all of that we can't see anything because its so dark! So much wasted potential. Its probably the thing that drives me nuts the most.

Laura Thornley

*gets vast majority of prediction wrongs in an episode she's seen before* *still repeatedly uses the word "predictable"* ohh nat. lol

Tom Fehr

we made it to the very end with the last episode of the white walkers and she still said night walkers lol

Tom Fehr

I'm pretty sure Arya went inside because she has a concussion. That hit on her head was pretty hard.

Jennifer Tremblay

I've rewatched X3 with Nat and actually thought it was decent and not as bad as I did.

Paul G

Daniel Greene "How Season 8 was written" on YouTube also gives a lot of insight ;)

KnittingHaven

Definitely agree with you that season 8 is by no means the worst season of television ever. Obviously the fandom is going to exaggerate how bad the ending was because of how good the show used to be. The disparity in quality just makes it seem worse than it is (it’s still pretty damn bad). But, it’s GoT, it can only be so bad. The visuals, music, acting, pretty much everything except the writing were some of the greatest of all time so that was always going to keep the show enjoyable

Dante

Agreed

Marcus Carter

It's essentially the same thing as seeing Endgame before any other MCU movie

Ilsuk Yang

Well, the writing has nothing to do with hard work and dedication. Obviously the cast and crew had the hard work and dedication, but the writing was all over the place. Great in some parts, terrible in others, and everywhere in between. Not everyone is going to have the same opinions. I'm somewhere in the middle. I think people who say "it's the worst season they've ever seen" are exaggerating a bit, but I also think the same for those who say it's a great season. Overall, I think it was a decent season with the first half being much better than the second half. I agree with how Daenerys' character arc ended, I just thought it was massively rushed. Either way, it's clear that they obviously worked hard and it shows in how visually pleasing the final season(s) were. The music is legitimately one of the best things about this series (perhaps the best thing). But this last season especially, had some legitimate problems with it. Just one guy's take on a great show with a somewhat disappointing ending

Ilsuk Yang

Definitely should've been 2 episodes.

Ilsuk Yang

You should totally watch "A Quiet Place" (1 and 2) for Natmare season!

Ilsuk Yang

Parasite is great. Have you seen it?

Joe Blankenship

There are, very clearly, a tiny handful of people left alive.

Erik Stevenson

Right but this week's been like 9/10AM Eastern... Also; yuck another movie Friday I'm skipping then, I guess...smh.

WellNo

She used to always post right at Noon eastern time.

Joe Blankenship

The Friday move is Parasite, check back in about an hour.

Simon Haynes

danG; no Friday movie then, huh...............Fuck.

WellNo

Hi Natalie, can you please watch dark on netflix. One of the best shows ever made. I'm sur you 're gonna love it.

Mannou B

The long night is what would have happened if the Night King won, he lost so it was prevented. We weren't promised anything other than a battle between the living and the dead. You are a victim of your own expectations.

Chris H

Lets all remember the dragonfire from this episode when we watch the last few episodes and compare.

My_Cousin_Mose

'

Ariel Conde

Why did they put the catapults on the front line? Why did they send the Dothraki to their death? Why do they hide women and children in the crypts when you are fighting an army of beings that resurrect the dead? What was Bran doing the whole time? How is that not a Single white walker did anything? If the Night's King wanted bran dead, why didnt he send some wights or other White Walker to do it? Why Arya is the one that kill him if she has nothin to do with that plot line? How did Jon survived after being surrounded by thirty wights? Shit, how did anyone Jaime, Brienne, freaking Sam survived? Remember Hardhome? I do.

Ariel Conde

That they may be but it doesn't mean when Thanos's ship reins fire or when the olymphants attack that applies but besides that I expect Sam to make it as he's GRRM in book form basically.

Paul G

To be honest I don't know how to write a long form version of solving this I've had thoughts on the Iron throne bit but until (and if ) GRRM his longer form version I don't know.

Paul G

Everyone in the Endgame final battle are warriors or superheroes. Everyone in LOTR are skilled fighters. In this episode Sam survives by just laying in a pile of corpses, the people in the crypts survive "just because". They want to paint this battle as if everyone was in danger and you were going to lose a lot of characters, but in the end, even Sam survives... somehow. We didn't lose anyone really important during the Battle of the Bastards and yet it felt 1000 times better than this one.

Bou _

Why post your comment? He was showing enthusiasm while you were being negative for no reason. Yeesh.

Logan Kerlee

None of the fighters were using ordinary weapons. Each of them had a special blade made just for this battle. That was why the smiths were so busy early on. While I agree with your take on strategy for the most part, you need to understand that they weren't all just fighting with ordinary blades.

Logan Kerlee

So a bunch of side characters. The red woman and Jonah being the only real characters of note and he's been absent the majority of the last 3 seasons.

My_Cousin_Mose

Big same, Paul. I've enjoyed this season quite a bit more this time through - but I likely feel that way because I'm watching this along with Natalie and I always think that's a much more fun way to watch a show/movie. Reactors are great when it comes to that. :)

Logan Kerlee

Well apparently GRRM has said Targaryen's aren't fireproof so that would have to more crying over spilt milk like Dany and the Dothraki temple.

Paul Gibbons

I'd hold off until George finishes em (he never will) unless you're OK with tons of buildup with no payoff.

My_Cousin_Mose

Remer the stories old Nan used to tell the kids about the long night? This was nothing remotely similar.

My_Cousin_Mose

So, what % of a movie or TV show can be shown without falling victim to copyright law?

The Dog Walker

What laundry list? And no, it isn't fair use since on Patreon she doesn't show any of them so fair use and copyright are not in play.

The Dog Walker

I kind of wanted to see Hodor in the army of the dead. Maybe even reach as far as Bran and have a final reunion. Also, Jon should have killed the undead dragon at the end. Maybe throwing the sword . . . Or maybe even finding out that Jon was fireproof like a proper Targaryen. I agree that more people seemed like they should have died. When this first played, I was expecting at least half of the people to die.

Tranquil_Gnome

Season 6 brought you "Hold the Door". Season 8 brought you the "BERIC-CADE"

Ruben Daniel

I almost wanted to call bull$h*t on her not remembering much of this episode, but then again, I watched the rest of the season and I barely remember that either. I know how it ends but forget how, I was, let's say nonplussed. I'm still and will always be a fan of the show, but, yeah I could take or leave the last season, apart from Arya getting the kill shot, I did actually jump out of my chair for that, was like Kirk Gibson hitting that walk off home run in '88. The way they shot it too, she appears like you knew she would, like no one out of nowhere, but NK stops her, cold, then that sweet drop knife stab prison shanking... Only wish we got to see his expression change, that was really unsatisfying for me. Also, I got the feeling when Bran and NK faced off that there was some truth to that rumor (fact?) from the books that NK was a Stark and a Lord Commander of the Night's Watch before the Kids in the Forest surgically but without anasthesia promoted him. I gotta read those books...

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

We built up to this battle the entire series. Then when it finally happens, it doesn't carry any weight because the entire main cast, except Jorah, survived. Oh, and the WHOLE Dothraki army died. Crazy how they ALL just died, except the ones hiding behind the trees(wink wink). But don't worry Ryan George has the answers to all your questions in "Game of Thrones Season 8 Pitch Meeting" on Youtube!

Al Baughman

They're just local troller pay no mind

Frank Rosales

Why even post "Why even post this?" so many times?

Michael G. Munz

Sshhh. Let people enjoy things.

Michael G. Munz

Undead grannies with butter knives and fingernails cut through plate armor like it's butter.

Tadpoleaxe

I agree. With a dragonglass dagger, she could have killed the giant by stabbing him in the ankle. No need for her to charge with an axe and then stab him with a dagger.

Tadpoleaxe

Here is a superior analysis of how this battle should have been fought. You could still have the same outcome but it would have been much better (maybe even two episodes?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA5mJRFaI8c

Tadpoleaxe

No, I am just another person named Tyler

Tyler

idk, over the course of a season? Maybe in some kind of satisfying way? I'm guessing you had no problems at all with how they went out then, right?

WackySwacky

how the fuck were they supposed to defeat the white walkers then?

bbbbbbb

The war with the White Walkers isn't supposed to end in a single battle. That's not what we've been promised. It's supposed to last years. Death and cold are supposed to sweep across the land. A new Long Night was supposed to begin. The War of the Five Kings was supposed to be proven a complete waste of time. We should have been preparing for the Apocalpse coming down from the North. Winter was coming. But nah, the White Walkers were easy to kill, barely an inconvenience. All we needed was for Arya to teleport behind the Night King and "Nothing personal, Kid" him with her Valyrian Steel dagger she got 2 episodes ago. Very satisfyingly end. Worth the 8 seasons of build up.

WackySwacky

To kill off the favorite characters would upset the """"fans"""" so we can't have any of that.

WackySwacky

On Patreon, she doesn't show the video or the audio of the episode, just a blurred, silent image so we can sync up our own copies. On YouTube, she doesn't show the entire episode, and she is giving commentary through the entire reaction, so it falls under Fair Use. I've seen some reactors just sit there and watch the entire episode without saying a word, that wouldn't fall under fair use, but Natalie plays by the rules so she's fine.

WackySwacky

Arya killing the Night King was done purely to "subvert expectations", a popular tactic in Hollywood currently. It's of course not satisfyingly at all, but hey, at least we didn't expect it, right?

WackySwacky

Most of the non-book readers hate for Season 8 comes from the last 3 episodes of the show. So give her time, she might still hate it.

WackySwacky

I hope she brought her Nat Vision Goggles for this episode, I nearly pulled a cornea trying to watch it the first time.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

The best way to fight them would have been with Wildfire. Wildfires bombs shot by trebuchet. Wildfire trenches surrounding the entire castle. Fire Arrows shot from the battlements. Dragonfire rained down from above by Jon and Dany. Set the whole land ablaze. Only select groups of their best fighters should be scouting the enemies territory in order to snipe a White Walker with a dragon glass arrow. Facing an unkillable army of the dead in an open field is a definition of stupidity. But I guess we need people fighting with swords in the big finale so that's what we got.

WackySwacky

This episode marks a change from the mediocrity of S7 and the first 2 episodes of S8 to pure bottom of the barrel garbage

Richard Maurer

I agree with you for the most part but there's very few movies or shows that are free from the 'sin' of the combat/tactics not making historical sense.

Nathan Swapp

Most low and high fantasy shows/movies ignore their consultants when they feel like it. GoT isn't unique in that regard and sieges are rarely shown well. What bothers me more than anything is the lack of rondel daggers for any of the characters, which would have made the final scene of Brienne/Jamie/Pod a little more "realistic" in regards to the grappling going on!

Kiera

It actually does fall under fair use. There isn't enough shown for anyone to duplicate it in any way, the amount shown is very limited, and it is shown very much in the style of critics who review movies with the only twist being the scenes always come in chronological order. She abides by the terms"criticism" and "comment" in the list of reasons for which Fair Use is implied. *Note the laundry list you cited makes you look ignorant to what you just posted.*

William Glazier

He was going to bite her in half but I agree for the most part.

Nathan Swapp

I remember being so disappointed in this episode. And I still am. There were a couple parts that held up better than I remembered but overall and in many ways, I think Army of Darkness did this battle better, even though it's sillier in nature.

Nathan Swapp

Im not that bothered by it this many years later, it just seemed there was no great consequence to the “main characters” in this battle…I suppose where we ultimately end up it needed to be that way…but I’ll leave the complaints about the series finale for when we get there

Charlie Keeler

There are others around the camera pans past them.

Paul Gibbons

Comment was about plot armour, and plenty of characters die in S8 and if your referring to the red wedding remember they killed more than the books and kept Catelyn dead too.

Paul G

Me too actually I've noticed so much I didn't the last time I watched it.

Paul Gibbons

Most actual battles make no sense strategically, read into Waterloo and Ghettysburg especially and then the actual battles that were in Braveheart they were organisational shitshows.

Paul G

John Collins regardless of D+D do you think all the actors wanted to do 4-5 more years I think their pay demands say they were getting one last push. Dante, over a decade they first met Martin back in 2006 over this, so 13 years they worked on the show, and yes they were offered 10 eps but they cut the number to up the amount of money for each one mainly cause most contracts are for episodes. And yes I'm sure HBO would have renewed the show if they really thought that it was feasible to keep going D+D would have been replaced or benched for a few seasons staying on as executive producers to come back at the end. If they were rushing to get out so much why take 2 years on the final season and the SW thing went away for all concerned as they shelved all films after Rise of Skywalker including even the rumoured Taika one and they still haven't properly moved forward on even the Patty jenkins one.

Paul G

One of the craziest things about this episode is how it looks like literally every fighter other than our ~10 main characters dies. Like, those final shots after the army of the dead ... dies... show basically zero non-main-characters left alive.

Erik Stevenson

Paul - None of those franchises built their brand on killing characters that the audience loved though. That was literally one of the things that made GoT famous early on, and the writers totally chicken out of it by the last couple of seasons.

Erik Stevenson

Totally fair

Charlie Keeler

Then think Endgame final battle, Return of the King, Jedi etc etc

Paul Gibbons

Plot armor fest

Charlie Keeler

No, it makes you look ignorant lord.

Paul G

I just remember feeling so empty after watching this episode, it was ass. Then the finale came... lmao

Alex De Santiago

I agree with Brian, and instead of having a comeback Lord you've just been abusive.

Paul G

lol

Crwn

Is this the groom?

The Dog Walker

Because it makes natalie look ignorant.

The Dog Walker

Because Natalie posts this on every entry...''*Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. The Dog Walker

It just hit me while rewatching the series with you how poetically precise Theon's "YOLO" speech was back in Season 2 - even if not for that battle, but for this one: "[...] We die today brothers. We die bleeding from a hundred wounds. With arrows in our necks, and spears in our guts. But our war-cries will echo through eternity. They will sing about the battle of Winterfell until the Iron Islands have slipped beneath the waves. Every man, woman, and child will know who we were and how long we stood. [...]"

and yet everyone shits all over season 8 for the writing say its the worst season ever blah blah blah...and these people put their heart and soles in it...all those extras..never will get any recognition....Except that dude in the after series special...that guy is a Legend haha

BJ with his lying corporate mouth piece bullshit...again.

most movies/show people do dumb shit that adds to their problems or kills them...Ever seen a horror movie? constantly doing dumb shit haha

While that is true Brian, D&D have publicly stated they were starting to experience burnout after working on the show for a decade. They also knew that the moment the series wrapped they would have countless lucrative offers which no doubt influenced their timeline for ending the show. It's also known that HBO offered D&D 10 episodes for season 7 and 8, and no doubt would have renewed the show for more seasons if D&D asked, but they didn't take them up on any of that. It's clear that D&D wanted to move on from the project that put them on the map and work on new exciting projects, hence the rushed final few seasons. (They're also just not very good at writing original material)

Dante

The Lord of light resurrected beric 12 times so he could save Arya who can then save the world. In other words, he's Clarence.

Why even post this?

That makes no sense.... I mean even the theory of Bran being the Night King makes more sense than him being the lord of light lol

Why do you love people getting triggered?

Natalie, do you honestly think your channel falls under fair use? You're smart, this bothers me.

chicks dig me

So much dragon glass they're sticking it in the castle pylons on the chance the wights nick themselves, and not one piece for the entire attacking dothraki army.

chicks dig me

Getting really tired of seeing this nonsense in the comment section. This season was written, planned, and the directors were chosen for this entire season LONG before that Star Wars deal was ever inked. A simple glance at google and the timeline makes this blatantly obvious....smh

So true. It's a self imposed spoilers fest.

Valar Dohaeris

I respect her opinion however she feels about anything. I enjoyed GoT as a whole, and I hope she does as well. Love when people get triggered 🤣

MakaPeji

Lady Mormont's death is the perfect example of what was wrong with the last few seasons.. If this scene happened in season 3, she would have been stepped on by the giant, and that would be it. But this random ruthless dead giant killing people without a thought about it is like "hmmm let me pick up this little girl and see what she can do" come onnnnnnn

JohnnyTankTop

Sam has survived most of those instances through sheer plot armor. Its just crap writing for the most part. Like the army of the dead simply walking by him for dramatic effect. And Sam had ABSOLTELY no business in this battle. The shot we see of him in the pile of wights is laughably stupid.

My_Cousin_Mose

What sacrifice?

My_Cousin_Mose

I did liked this episode more this second time around. The first time defeating the dead army felt too "easy". I also felt a bit angry for them to get rid of the zombies issue in a single episode, after making it the mayor issue during 7 seasons... But now, I feel these were enough zombies for the whole show. I also spent 15 minutes calibrating the TV to be able to see clearly but maintaining the dark atmosphere. As I said, i enjoyed it a lot more this time around.

Valar Dohaeris

I could hardly care less if she shares my dislike of the last 3 seasons. Its you guys who can't seem to handle Natalie disagreeing with you.

My_Cousin_Mose

Not sure if you've heard about it or read the comments about it but the reason these last 2 seasons were short was because the writers wanted to hurry to finish the show. This resulted in them basically cramming the end of the story into 13 episodes rather than about 4 or even 5 more seasons. They were offered the new Disney star wars trilogy and allegedly part of the reason they rushed GOT was so they could focus on that. Unfortunately for them after the back lash of the bad ending of GOT that star wars deal fizzled out.

I mean you're not wrong with the lack of logic at a lot of moments in the last seasons, but if anyone would know when to show up wouldn't it be Melisandre? The person whose entire thing is seeing the future

Conzi

(Sorry for how long this comment is lol) I remember this being the episode where a lot of people turned on the show... when quite frankly the first two episodes before this are nothing but clunky exposition and surface-level subtext. This episode, though, is an action masterpiece even if I don't like the overall plot and resolution they went for. Even though it's a dark episode, I will NEVER understand the complaints that this episode was too dark. I know a lot of people had connection issues the night this episode aired because of how many people were trying to stream it at once. When a connection gets weak, the compression of the video increases to prevent it from stopping entirely and high compression happens to make dark scenes with lots of smoke, fog and fire look awful... and that's all this episode is. 🤣 A lot of people got of accused of hating that a strong female kills the Night King and I'm sure that was the case for a small number of jackasses out there. For me, it was the fact that Arya had absolutely nothing at all to do with the deep north/White Walker plot until this episode that makes it feel so empty to me. What's worse is that they planned to have Arya kill the Night King a long time in advance and still did a really clunky job with it. Some might have liked how she just flies through the air and swoops in to save Bran the way she couldn't fly through the air to save Ned - but I don't. Honestly, after season 6 her character barely has an arc other than creeping out Sansa in a different way than Bran creeps her out. Lastly, I just hate that Cersei never had to reckon with the White Walkers in any serious way. I would have preferred that the Battle of Winterfell was still won by our characters, but the Night King managed to escape south with a small force. A three-way conflict at King's Landing where all 3 sides want each of the other two sides dead and one of them is still a small but threatening undead army would have been so awesome.

Once I watch this episode with Nat, I will be completely caught up to where I once was. I never bothered watching the last 3 episodes of the show after seeing this one. I've been told by many that that was a good decision. But, I'm willing to watch the last 3 in this format. Though from what I've heard of the outcomes of certain characters that I'll have a hard time enjoying it.

I will say that viewing this season through again on this run with you, I was very much able to enjoy it much more than the first time through. I do feel like the writers and showrunners took the cowards path by giving so many people plot armor through this. Remember what they said at the gathering? That true death is to be forgotten? I wanted that not to be an omen of despair, but a foreshadowing of victory! This was an opportunity to let the majority of our favorite warriors fall *as they should have* on the legendary front line combating *death itself*, defying armageddon, assuring their brightest possible legend... Poetically, this would let the survivors - the regular folk - inherit their myths and keep those legends alive as survivor heroes in their own right -they ALL fought their own battles through the long night!- surviving to rebuild with a new morning, a new chapter, to tell the tale of when life and hope and humility and new ideas and unity triumphed at great, and necessary sacrifice... New songs for the greatest heroes the world had EVER known... Alas. Still fun though. I'm enjoying it much more on a re-viewing, since the experience is a lot more loose and tempered this time around. See yas on the next one.

Trepanation21

Here it is. The beginning of the end of the show, and where the audiences began to realize they didn't like it.

Christopher French

I'm glad she's enjoying it, honestly. But we'll see how she feels by the end.

Christopher French

Wow you're still getting emotional over this show. Everyone keeps telling you how shitty it is every reaction, I bet they're all punching the air as they watch you cry over this show. You're suppose to hate it like they do...

MakaPeji

Notable deaths (please excuse any mispellings, I'm going from memory): Jorah Mormont, Theon Greyjoy, Edd, Baeric Dondarion, Lyanna Mormont, Lady Karstark. Edit: Forgot Melisandre On a happier note, the little girl with the scar survived her time in the crypt.

Dave A

What soulless creature showed you this episode first, of all GoT episodes....?

James M

Pretty sure Bran is the lord of light btw

Asking

Same. I was like, did I watch the same episode last time?

Navjot Singh

This episode was filmed in 55 night shoots (pretty much sundown to sunup) over 11 weeks in brutal weather conditions. It absolutely wrecked the cast and crew but just shows the dedication and talent involved in the production and acting. The score playing during the climax of the episode is titled "The Night King" and it is my favorite score from the entire show. Imagine if the writing of this season was up to par with the production and music.

Dante

surviving.forEach( character => output(character + " is gonna die..." );

Luis Torrefranca

They were in the last episode

Dante

It's actually like a whole different episode. There are characters in scenes that you didn't even know were there because they were just in the blackness with the rest of the background. I played around with some clips in After Effects to try and punch it up even more, and there are some truly epic shots that are just blackened into an empty void of nothingness for what reason I don't know.

Happy thrones Thursday Nat 💛 so we reach the episode you've already seen this is going to be interesting to see what you remember and also to see if tissues were needed 😀 the journey is fast reaching its conclusion which is going to be bittersweet cuz it's been amazing watching this show along with you, curious to know if tyler has continued the show through to the end or not knowing how busy he's been etc. anyway enough typing let's get to it 🙂💛

Ian

half way through episode. Most of Nat's commentary: "*insert character's name* : is gonna die..." :)

Steve J

Hahaha I absolutely love the fact that everyone should be dead according to you, every two seconds was so and so was going to die, oh they're going to die, oh yeah they're going to die... Love it! 😂

Jayson Orlando

You can tell they never consulted a military / history professional on strategies for a siege. This episode could've been saved in the edit room too. 2 years and we got this lol

Simon Bauer

trebuchets inside the walls would of made it a little better lol seems like they had space issues but still they could've fit a lot more people inside guarding. such a poor outcome considering how much time went into filming this episode

romeo

There needs to be a monument outside Winterfell honoring the Unsullied and their sacrifice

William Connery

Right? You have a fucking castle, USE IT! Why line up outside and try to attack?

William Connery

I think they were there in the last ep but don't quote me.

Paul Gibbons

Of all the episodes to watch first...

Ben Wheeler

You know nothing, Luis Torrefranca... :-)

Alan Kobb

In a weird, roundabout way, Sam's fate was known from season 1, episode 1, before we even met him.

Luis Torrefranca

Very interesting never thought of it that way But then what Melasandre said to Arya the first time she meet her " Brown eyes, Green Eyes, Blue Eyes eyes you shut forever " and Melasandre said that she meet Arya again so the God of Light and death knew I don't know but its interesting concept Brown eyes = Walder Frey Green eyes = Little finger (peter) Only from what I have read not confirmed Blue Eyes = The Night King

Joshua Sutton

Hi Nat and here we are, almost at the end, only 3 episodes until we're done with it and we start a new journey, and thank you for your new reaction! 😄 It was great, laughters at times, tensions and tears haha (you were so worried about the dragons haha, and of course your emotional moments for some characters, always contagious for my heart, I feel bad for you 😢😆) Of course the episode has some "strategic mistakes" (I mean in a classic military way haha), and some script choices weren't "good or strange" but what's done is done 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, I really can't wait for your next video 😄 I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Regarding the Unsullied covering the retreat: Valar Dohaeris Valar Morghulis

Luis Torrefranca

Yes i agree But the ones that have seen GOT to the end we know what Sam's fate is and Natalie will never get it

Joshua Sutton

I played a drinking game for every time you said "DIE". I'm gonna go die now.

DJ KASE

This is probably the best review I have ever heard of the final seasons of GOT.

Navjot Singh

Lots of people, including myself, are not huge fans of how this episode is shot and directed. As another poster mentioned, strategy basically goes out the window, and there is very little effort to preserve ones army. I totally agree with this, and at the same time, I am not sure how you fight an endless wave of zombies in a blizzard. Do the best you can I guess? Which is kinda what the cast and crew did with this script. They did the best they could.

JediLounger

Viserion is the Dragon that died. Jon is on Rhaegal Dany is on Drogon (obviously)

Connor Ellis

The first time I watched this episode, I didn't turn up the brightness on my monitor and hated the episode. Today for the first time I am watching this episode on a better screen and maxed my brightness and I am finding the episode a tad bit better than before? Lord of Light to the rescue I guess. But anyway, it won't work on the remaining three episodes so.

Navjot Singh

Natalie: "Sam's gonna die..." Natalie, I'm getting a little tired of you constantly predicting Sam's death! Sam's always been in danger, and he' always gotten out of it with his skin intact! Sam hides behind a rock when the wights are on the march. You say Sam's going to die. He doesn't. A white walker threatens Gilly and little Sam. You say he's going to die. Sam goes out with sword in hand, and Sam slays the walker. A Thenn threatens Sam. Natalie says Sam's gonna die. Sam says I'll kill him. Everyone in the Citidel is afraid to try to cure Ser Jorah's disease, but for Sam it's not a matter of fear, but how to get away with it. Sam is the true anti-Hero. Nobody sees him as a hero, but there he is, always brave, and always surviving. In other words, stop picking on Sam, Natalie!!! Oh yea. Deus ex Melasandre.

Alan Kobb

Happy Thursday, Natalie! 😊 Downloading this one right now so that I can watch it later tonight. Looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. It's been an in final season so far. Have a great day today! 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

Randee Carreno

"it's just a little convenient that [she] magically showed up" Welcome to seasons 6-8. "No logistics, just vibes."

RE

This entire battle makes no sense strategically.

Connor Ellis

Wanted to also post this here: My favorite theory. It’s original in my mind as I’ve never heard it anywhere else so here goes: Jaqen H’ghar is one of the main heroes of the show. How DOES the leader of The Faceless Men get so easily caught by Goldcloaks in King’s Landing? It’s because he planned to! Given that we know so little about The Faceless Men, I think he somehow KNEW it was Arya’s destiny to kill The Night King and therefore put himself in position to guide her to that outcome. To me, the best evidence is the last time we saw him. Arya does not become No One but declares herself “Arya Stark...and I’m going Home”. His reaction? A SMILE. Her going back to face off against The Night King was his ultimate end game.

Michael Patrick

The intro was different btw in this episode. You can see the defences that have been put up around Winterfell

Connor Ellis

Oh boy, been waiting so long for this one.

Jorge

Watching this right after I get out of class 🤩

Jerry Gonzalez

The penultimate Thrones Thursday Nat. "I get that you're dramatic, but can you be a little quicker" 😊 Melisandre is such a drama queen. She even steals the final shot of the show. Really enjoyed your reaction today Nat. The excitement. The tension. The tears. And I loved your outro for this video, and looking forward to the final 3 shows. Thanks for a great video today Nat, and another awesome week of Thrones 💛
