FIRST TIME WATCHING: Grave of the Fireflies (Patreon Exclusive)

Hey folks!

It's time for another Feature Friday and a Patreon exclusive reaction! This one is heavy, but I appreciated it nonetheless. For those who'd like to watch this along with me, I watched it on Netflix.

As always, thank you for your support here on Patreon. Until the next one, take care and stay golden :)

Comments

I love and hate this film. Love it for how much of a character study it is of lives immediately following our "war ending" Pearl Harbor retaliation, and hate it for turning a horrific story into art. This is one of those films I felt I only needed to see twice, but occasionally find myself revisiting it as a reminder to "be excellent to each other" and look out for those in need of a lift.

Before Halloween month ends (but honestly you can watch these anytime), I implore you to react to two films. I always recommend them to my friends and reactors. As a filmmaker and storyteller myself, I can't recommend these enough. 1st: 'Attack the Block.' It's about a group of teenagers fighting off an alien attack in their apartment block in South London. It stars John Boyega who plays Finn in the most recent Star Wars trilogy. It's his acting debut. It also stars Jodi Whittaker and Nick Frost 2nd: Journey to the West: Conquering the Demon. This is a Stephen Chow action-comedy, (the same guy who did Kung Fu Hustle.) It's about a Buddhist monk who travels around 9th century China fighting demons. It's loosely based on the 16th century novel of the same name by Wu Cheng'en. Both of these are two of the best films i've ever watched, and they don't get enough people reacting to them because they slip through the cracks.
